Chapter 9

After Summer was done with the fluid transfusion, Adrian got changed and waited for Summer outside the ward. “Hurry up. I’ll take you out to buy a blanket and some clothes.”

Summer carefully got out of bed. She was still a little afraid of Adrian and she tried to keep a distance from him. “I… I’ll pay you back for those things.”

She did not want to owe anyone anything. But since Jasper did not care whether she was dead or alive, if she continued to live without those necessities, she would freeze to death.

She did not care about her own life, but she had a baby to protect.

“Don’t worry. I’ll ask for the money from Jasper.”

Adrian was amused as he gazed at the trembling little rabbit, and he shook his head.

“Do you really remember nothing? Do you still remember which direction to take to go home?” Adrian asked probingly.

Summer was walking, and her body stiffened. She looked around with a lost expression and shook her head. “I’m probably not from Sea City.”

She would recall some things every now and then, but nothing in Sea City felt familiar to her at all.

“Alright, you’re probably an illegal immigrant. No wonder Jasper is always bullying you so wantonly. You know, you’re such a silly young woman…” Adrian arched an eyebrow, and his desire to bully Summer became even stronger. “Even if he were to f*ck you until you die, no one’s going to investigate the crime.”

Summer raised her head to glance at Adrian, and she was strangely calm about it. “Yeah.”

‘Yeah?’

Adrian was amused. Summer was as timid as a rabbit, but she was not afraid of death at all.

At Thousand Cities Square.

Adrian brought Summer to a mall to buy some stuff.

He was seriously a role model in this time and age. He was even caring for Jasper’s sugar baby. It seemed that he really had plenty of time in his hands.

“Wow!”

Cheers suddenly rang out from the middle of the square, and countless colorful balloons were descending from the sky. The people around them cried out in envy.

Summer was in a daze as she stood rooted to the spot. She raised her head to look at the sky full of vibrant colored balloons, and tears were welling up in her eyes.

Adrian cursed internally and subconsciously tried to pull Summer away from the scene.

Seriously, Jasper? Before this, he had proposed to Victoria at his company’s headquarters, but it was a failed attempt. Now, he was proposing to Victoria at one of the malls that belonged to Miller Corporation. That man was seriously swimming in money!

Summer was numb as she stood rooted to the spot. She saw a hulking figure. He was standing among the crowd, and as everyone watched in envy, he walked step by step toward the woman who was surrounded by the balloons.

‘He’s proposing...

‘In such a romantic manner.

‘Should I be envious?”

…..

It turned out that he was really a liar.

What was Jasper doing when she was freezing to death in the rented place? He was preparing to propose to Victoria.

Summer’s long eyelashes trembled a little, and she could not stop the tears from rolling down her face.

“Marry him! Marry him!”

There were cheers and yells all around them, and Summer’s ears were buzzing.

This man who had never seen her as a human being was treating another woman like a princess, doting on her and pampering her.

There was not really any reason for her to feel jealous. Jasper merely did not love her.

“Let’s go. Why would you stay here and make yourself miserable?” Adrian glanced at Summer and lowered his voice without being aware of it.

Love was blind indeed. Jasper did not like such a lovable young woman like Summer, but chose to chase after a woman that he would never be able to get.

Every person with common sense could see that Victoria was merely toying with Jasper. Jasper was the only one who did not agree to that, and he could even find thousands of reasons to defend Victoria.

Adrian shook his head. He then grabbed Summer by the wrist and dragged her into the elevator.

“Do you know how to use a cell phone?”

......

Along the way, Adrian kept talking to Summer, but Summer barely responded to him.

The young woman looked like she had lost her soul, and her eyes were red. But she did not cry or make a scene. She merely walked obediently behind Adrian, and Adrian felt something tugging at his heartstrings when he saw how mature she was.

“Little rabbit, do you know how to use a cell phone?” Adrian furrowed his eyebrows. He raised his hand and cornered Summer against the glass wall behind her.

“A… A little bit.” Summer regained her senses in a flustered manner, and there was a tremble in her voice as she nodded.

Jasper had taught her how to use a cell phone before this. But he had not been patient, and he merely taught her how to make and pick up calls.

“Choose whichever phone you want.” Adrian put on a generous act and pointed at the display counter. He wanted to cheer the little thing up.

After all, whenever women get to shop, they would forget everything horrible for a fleeting moment.

Summer looked carefully at the phones on the display counter and nervously clutched her hands together.

Adrian would not buy her stuff for no reason. He would be asking Jasper to pay him back…

She had already owed Jasper a lot of money. She did not know whether she would ever be able to pay Jasper back.

…..

“You only need a phone to pick up calls.”

“When I’m not looking for you, you’re not allowed to take the initiative to contact me. Do you understand?”

“Summer, don’t you remember what I have said? Who allowed you to call me?”

…..

After she learned how to use a cell phone, she excitedly wanted to share everything with Jasper.

But what did Jasper do? He was so impatient. He threatened her again and again.

She merely missed him and wanted to give him a call…

After that…

She held her cell phone day and night and waited endlessly. Perhaps, Jasper would miss her one day. He would call her, telling her that he would be staying over and to get ready.
