Chapter 3-Sign

Fate

Chapter 3

Stella swallowed her own saliva, and it seemed to dry up suddenly before looking directly at Charles. “I just want to know if I had a place in your heart even just a little bit?”

The young man looked blankly at Stella. “You know I only married you because of my grandfather. Take the money you after me, so you married me in exchange for my freedom.”

Stella tried to suppress a bitter smile forming on her lips. She couldn’t blame her husband because that could be the only thing he had on his mind until now. She had no excuse when she was asked why she wanted to marry him. Her excuse was that she had always dreamed of marrying a rich man. But she was very hurt because Charles had never been able to love her during the three years they had been together.

The lawyer was surprised when the girl, without a word, took the pen she was holding and signed the divorce paper. He looked at Charles, but he turned and left them.

Both Magda and Sophie stared at Stella in disbelief. They didn’t expect her to be able to sign it without any fuss or coercion.

“Huh, your true colors have really come out. You just proved that you really look like money and that you don’t really love Brother Charles!” Sophie scolded the woman in annoyance. She is hurting for her brother.

“Sophie, don’t waste your time on that woman. A gold digger has no heart and is full of deception.” Elizabeth took her friend by the arm.

“I want your brother’s happiness. That’s why I’m letting him go now.”

Sophie was stunned for a moment when the sadness reflected in Stella’s eyes even though she was smiling.

Stella turned to Elizabeth. “I’m leaving what I own to you. Take care of him. It’s hard for him to sleep at night when there’s no one by his side.”

Annoyed, Elizabeth looked away. She was also insulted by what she said, as if she was making her look like she was just giving her leftovers.

“Ms. Stella, this is what you need to sign.” Daniel presented another paper in front of the girl.

Stella sighed and just stared at the paper. That’s the deal with the money.

“Don’t be in a hurry to claim this house. Wait for Charles’ stuff to be hauled away and—” Magda didn’t finish what she had to say when Stella suddenly turned around.

“I don’t need that. Please tell him I have thanked him for sheltering me for three years.”

Astonished, Daniel’s gaze followed the girl, who turned her back. He couldn’t believe that the latter was not interested in money and the house.

“Ms. Stella, how are your things?” Marimar chased after the girl before she could leave the house.

“It’s all yours,” said Stella as she continued to slowly walk out the door. She had to leave while her knees still had the strength to step.

“Huh, the boastful! She just wanted to make you feel guilty and pity her, so she refused the money!” Elizabeth exclaimed in annoyance.

Sophie blinked as if realizing. She was about to go after Stella and looked like she was feeling bad, but Magda stopped her.

“Don’t feel sorry for her. Remember that’s what she’s good at. Your brother shouldn’t know that she didn't accept the money.”

Sophie nodded to the lady involuntarily. She saw Stella get into a taxi and leave with only her handbag. She didn't want to admit it to herself, but she felt pity for Stella. She asked herself if she had done the right thing for her.

“C’mon, girl, you shouldn’t feel sorry for that woman. We should be happy because your brother is free and my dream of marrying Charles will come true.”

Sophie smiled at her friend and nodded. She took the paper that the lawyer was holding, and she had to hide it.

“Tell my brother that Stella brought this copy.”

Daniel was forced to nod at the girl. He immediately followed Charles to the library.

“Has she finished signing all the papers?” Charles remained, facing the young man.

“Yes,” was Daniel’s only answer, and he placed Stella’s signature on the table.

Charles looked at the divorce paper. He didn’t just miss earlier. Stella actually signed the paper willingly. Whereas before she was stubborn even when he offered a large amount. He thought that maybe she didn’t have a place to live, so she included this house.

“Are you sure you won’t regret this sudden decision of yours?” Daniel asked, while carefully observing his friend.

Instead of answering his lawyer friend, Charles poured wine into the glass. He also offered a glass to his friend and toasted him.

Daniel never asked his friend again. He joined him for a drink, and he knew his friend needed that.

Marimar happily entered Stella’s room and shopped for items she liked. There was also jewelry, but he hesitated to take it. Sophie said that it was all hers, but she was nervous. Well, she’ll own that when they leave this house. She will close it first so no one else can enter.

Sophie, Magda and Elizabeth have also been drinking as a release for the loss of the thorn in their throat.

Stella closed her eyes tightly and tried to stop the tears from falling. She needed to calm down, and her stomach throbbed again. She was thankful, and she had some money left for the taxi fare. And told the driver to take her to the hospital because she was afraid of losing her pregnancy due to the stomach pains which did not stop.

Even though she was weak, she thought of calling the person who picked her up yesterday. But that’s how disappointed she was when she saw that her cellphone was dead. She still hasn’t charged it. When she saw her medical results, she was disappointed. No one else should know about her pregnancy. Fortunately, the taxi driver was kind. He still supported her and took her inside the hospital.

When the doctor heard that her patient had returned, she quickly attended to her. She was very worried when she saw that it had a blood spot. She didn’t ask her anymore when she saw that she was looking at her pleadingly.

“Don’t let my baby lose,” Stella begged the doctor.

The doctor sadly nodded at the girl. She immediately injected her with an anti-bleeding medicine and let her rest. She was also impressed by her courage and strength. She was able to return alone to save the child in her womb.

At least, Stella’s mood had calmed down, and she had confidence in the doctor. She let her own consciousness drift into the darkness. She also wants to forget for a while and her heart is getting tired of being hurt.

“Doc, aren’t you going home yet?” asked the nurse when she reached the patient’s room again.

“I’ll just wait for her to wake up,” Jenny answered the nurse. Her patient had been asleep for a few hours, and she peeked at her whenever she was free.

Stella woke up because of the noise she heard. When she opened her eyes, she immediately held her stomach.

“Don’t worry, the baby’s attachment is strong.”

A small smile appeared on Stella’s lips when she met the doctor. “Thank you very much! I will see this as a debt of gratitude for accommodating and helping me.”

“It’s my job to save lives. Maybe you need something I can help with?”

Stella looked at the clock on the wall. It was late and she felt hungry.

“I have prepared food that is good for you and your baby.”

“Thank you very much. Can I borrow a cellphone?”

Without hesitation, she lent her cellphone to the girl. She had a cellphone, but she saw that it was turned off.

Stella was thankful and remembered the number of people she always asked for help like today. “I need your help.”

Jenny carefully observed the patient. She sees that the woman has two personalities according to the person she is talking to.

Stella did not prolong the conversation with the man. After giving the place where she was, she returned the gadget to the doctor.

“Do you need a charger for your cellphone?”

 “No, doc., thanks!”

“Well, if you don’t need anything else, I’ll be leaving. Don’t worry, I’ll hand you over to the night shift doctor and nurse.”

She thanked the doctor again. When she was gone, she forced herself to get up, and she had to eat. Even if she has no appetite, she cannot starve for her baby. She had a sad night even though the person who she had called earlier had arrived.

“Are you going back to your house?” Alex politely asked the girl. When she nodded, he smiled. “Your father will surely be pleased.”

Stella smiled bitterly at the gentleman. Returning to the power of her father simply means giving up her freedom in all things.

“Don’t worry, honey. You will definitely get better and will not experience the life you experienced with your husband.”

Annoyed, she avoided looking at the gentleman. It was only recently that she found out that her father was secretly monitoring her and knowing her situation.

“I’ve fixed everything, and you can go out.”

Stella quickly fixed herself and got off bed. Nothing is impossible when her father takes action.

“Your phone.”

She quickly grabbed her phone from the gentleman and destroyed it. She also cut the sim card before throwing it in the trash. She threw the cellphone against the wall, so it broke into pieces. “Clean the room before going out.”

Alex hurriedly picked up the mess on the floor and threw it in the trash. He is happy and the old Stella is back.
