CHAPTER SIX

STAR'S POV 

It's prom night, fully dressed in my red shiny handless short gown with suede hand gloves  to my elbows. My hair was in a stylish loose bun decorated with pearls matched with diamond necklace and earrings. I put on a black sandal heel . Applying my lipstick which is deep red in color , Aunt Kate stood behind me and watched in awe. 

I turned to look at her and she said "You look so much like your mum. Beautiful and smart. You are ready and who is your date ?" When she asked this question there was a knock on the door.

"Just guess. It's a surprise. " Giggling, I went to the door and opened it. My knight in shining armor stepped in with a bouquet of red roses in his left hand, dressed in a tailored dark tuxedo. His hair gelled back. He looks so handsome.

"Aunt Kate this is Alex, Alex this is my Aunt Kate. She is like a mother to me."  Introducing Alex and Aunt Kate.

Alex just nodded his head and said "It was nice meeting you."

Aunt Kate responded "Likewise."  

An unknown tension could be felt in the room. 

"Do you guys know each other?" I asked. 

"No,"  they both answered.

I giggled saying "Wow, Ok you both should relax. Let me get my purse. " 

I went upstairs to my room to get my purse but stopped when I saw my room light on. That's strange, I remembered switching it off. Entering my room, I saw a shadow by my window.

Looking for anything that could stand as a weapon,I found a slipper and asked "Who is there" 

There was no response. Moving slowly, I grabbed the slipper tight and went close to the window praying silently it was no one. When I got close to the window, I saw a cat running into the woods. Placing my left  hand on my chest , I breathed out a shaky breath and thanked the heavens it was just a cat. I closed the window, dropped the slipper and found my purse on the bed. I picked it , switched off the lights and locked the door.

"I'm ready" I announced my presence.

Alex looked up to me and smiled. Blowing a kiss towards my direction , I giggled.

Aunt Kate motioned us to get going . I kissed her goodbye on her right cheek and hugged her.

Hugging me back she whispered "It's time. "

I looked back at her confused . Trying to ask what she meant but Alex dragged me by my waist to the door. Aunt Kate stood there watching as we left in Alex's car . She seemed sad , tears brimming her eyes.

"She is just emotional."  Alex suggested while placing his right hand on my lap and his left hand on the steering.

Facing Alex I said"You think? but why is she emotional.It's just prom."  

He shrugged and suggested "Motherly instincts I guess. "

"Ok. "  Sounding sad I said "If she wants I can forget the prom and stay with her. "

Alex turned too fast towards my direction like lightning"Why would you think that."

Looking down on my hands positioned on my lap,I said ,"I hate seeing her sad. It wrecks me. Since my parents died in a car crash  when I was little although I  don't remember She is the only family I have left."

Alex glanced at my direction ,placed his hand on my lap and said "Everything will be fine."

I smiled and nodded, placing my left  hand on his .

"Now let's have fun. "  he added.

I giggled in response

We arrived at school and  I was so excited. Alex suggested I go in while he packs his car. I agreed and went in. The whole school was totally different . The decorations were superb and pleasing to the eyes. Bodies scattered everywhere .

I spotted Celine by the buffet and went to say hello. Placing my hand on her shoulder "Hey." 

She turned to me and screamed"O my God . Star you look so beautiful and hot bitch, like red Riding Hood . Are you sure you came for prom night or are you heading to a club? "

Smarking her hand, I said "Celine mind your language , it's just a simple gown and  It's prom night i am here for ,you know I don't go to clubs."

She rolled her eyes  "How can I forget. Decent Star. But you need to loosen up a little. By the way, I hope you are not here alone. Where is Alex?" 

About to respond but Alex came to my side.

She winked at Alex "Hi handsome. "

Alex waved back at her.

"Star looks hot tonight. Better have your eyes wide open for praying hands." She giggled while saying this.

"Don't worry she is safe with me." He smiled directly at Celine.

She was smiling and picked up a glass of champagne saying "I leave you both. Am in search of hook ups." 

 I giggled.

"Your friend is crazy,"  Alex suggested as he shook his head.

His phone started to ring and he excused himself to go answer it. When he left , I made my way to sit down and kept my purse on the seat next to me. When I was fully seated , I noticed Linda and the other side of the hall staring at me. Her stare sent shivers down my spine but I couldn't see Rose . I looked around but didn't see Rose. Turning back to where Linda was, she was gone. And just in time the lights went off. I reached for my purse beside me to get my phone but it fell to the ground. 

I felt someone behind me. Turning I couldn't see anything or anyone due to the darkness present in the room.

Someone grabbed me by the throat , came close to my right ear ,purred like a wolf and licked my neck. "Star, you have developed over the years. I can't wait."

My mouth felt so dry , I could not utter a single word. The lights came back on and there was no sight of the person. 

Alex came rushing in "We need to go , now." 

Surprised"Why what's wrong ?"

"Stop asking and just follow me." he said this while dragging me out of the school hall into the parking lot.

"Get in" he ordered with such urgency.

I got in and he ran to the other side to get into the driver's seat. When he was seated , he clicked on the start button and the car roared to life. He drove out of the parking lot and pressed on the gas which threw me backwards to the seat.

"Alex slowed down. You are going to get us killed please."  I begged him. He slowed a bit.

"Where are we going ?" I asked, looking directly at him.

He didn't answer. . 

Ten minutes later we were approaching my house. He Parked in front of my house , I could see Aunt Kate crawling away from the house with blood stains on her . No. 

I rushed out of the car to meet her.

I kneeled ,Placing her head on my lap and tears streaming down my face. I placed my hand on her chest and whispered"No. Aunt Kate. Who did this to you and why? Please don't leave me, please."

Alex came and stood besides me "Fuck" moving his hand through his hair.

She coughed and didn't say a word but placed my right hand on her forehead"See" she ordered.

".mSee what and how."   I choked out.

"Close your eyes and look deep, you will see. ``She sounded so weak.

I had no choice but to do as she said. Placing my right hand on her forehead and closing her eyes, I breathed in. I could see Aunt Kate seated at the kitchen table reading a magazine. 

Someone entered and she stood up from the sofa in the sitting room, the magazine falling off her laps. "What do you want?"

The person who came in just laughed and grabbed her throat, strangling her. His hands became hairy , very hairy and bigger. Veins popping out with nails so long and deadly. Aunt Kate's eyes turned from it's usual brown to orange, her face getting blue due to lack of air. The beast threw her across the room and ordered his men to silence her and left. They were transforming, hands and legs  got bigger so as their ears. They fell to the ground and the clothes they were putting on torn into pieces . You could see their back bones enlarging with every passing second and teeth got bigger . They transformed into large wolf's . Black and brown in color so as Aunt Kate. She fought. But there was  someone . A different wolf with different eye color. The wolf tore at her flesh multiple times making sure every artery in her body was torn. They all left.
