Talia's pov

I lay on my bed staring at the walls, the sunset streaming through the windows, casting a soft glow through the room. As I thought of What had just happened—Mara and Rhys's reaction to my painting the gates a bright shade of pink.

I had only wanted to make things look different even if I knew I had no right to. A bold choice of mine that has stirred up whispers and raised eyebrows among the elders, maids, and guards of this house.

I intended to do whatever will piss Mara off. Besides, she stole my man and made him marry her, and I'm going to show Mara hell in this house.

Rhys's home felt like a refuge, an escape from all the chaos outside. Rhys's easy smile and warm laughter had always had a way of calming my nerves.
