Mia Miller

What would you do if your life was falling apart? If everything you loved, everything you fought for, was being ripped away from you?

That was exactly how I felt. No solutions. No faith. Nothing. And to make things worse, I was in the hands of a man who seemed more like a predator than a protector.

Since the incident in the "hidden" room, Ethan had disappeared from my sight. I barely saw him around the house, and the lack of news about Lorenzo only made my anguish grow. The silence, the waiting—everything felt like a slow and calculated torture.

Now, I was sitting at the dining table, alone. The untouched food in front of me. The silence was suffocating, broken only by the sound of my own thoughts. Suddenly, I heard footsteps. My body tensed. That unmistakable, unsettling scent hit me before he even entered the room. Ethan.

"You're here," his voice was low but firm.

I quickly stood up, my eyes inevitably locking onto his, and immediately, I felt that tension that had become so familiar—that electricity in the air that always seemed to exist when we were in the same space.

"What do you want?" my voice came out stronger than I expected.

He stepped forward, his presence dominating the space as he leaned against one of the chairs. The way he looked at me, as if he could see right through me, made me extremely nervous.

"I came to give you two pieces of news," he said, his voice cold and controlled as always.

My breath caught in my throat as I waited. What did he have to say now? More threats? More games?

From him, I could only expect bad things.

"I investigated your life," he began, and a chill ran down my spine. "I know you studied Business Administration."

His statement felt like a blow. He knew everything about me.

"You're going to be in charge of managing the bar. I'm busy with other things," he continued, leaving no room for discussion. "And just to be clear, I can do whatever I want with you. Refusing an order from me is not an option."

The direct and crude way he spoke, the certainty in his tone, made my heart race. He was controlling me, manipulating me, and the worst part... some part of me knew I had no choice. I just didn't know why.

"You can't do this," I tried to argue, but my voice faltered. "I'm worried about my son, I can't—"

"I can, and I will," he interrupted, his gaze fixed on me, full of an intensity that made me shiver. "And the other news is about the pup."

Why did he call my son a pup? That made my blood boil!

"We're planning a rescue," he said, as if it was something trivial, but I noticed the flicker of something in his eyes. "And you’re going to do exactly what I say, or you’ll never see your son again."

The tension between us was thick, almost suffocating. No matter how cold and ruthless he was, there was something there—a current of desire, something I hated to admit I felt too. His proximity, the heat of his body, his authoritative tone… it all felt like a dangerous dance, a game neither of us was willing to lose.

He remained silent for a few minutes before finally turning to me.

"We're going out. You need new clothes. I don’t want to walk around with a ragged woman by my side."

I widened my eyes, surprised by his rudeness. Excuse me?

I simply nodded, deciding not to argue. In the end, we were going to find Lorenzo, and everything would be resolved. I didn’t care what came next.

I got into the car and sat beside him while Ethan talked endlessly on the phone. He seemed like an extremely busy man, involved in more than just business. I couldn’t imagine him being a good father to my son, but it was too late to regret past choices.

The truth was, I hadn’t chosen a good father for Lorenzo. In fact, I never even had a choice.

As he spoke, I watched his features. Piercing blue eyes, dark hair, a jacket that accentuated his figure in a way that was almost provocative. Any woman would fall for Ethan; that was obvious.

After what felt like an eternity, the car finally stopped.

"You have thirty minutes to pick out your clothes," he said, his jaw clenched.

He got out quickly, shutting the door with force. Great, he’s really coming in with me to choose clothes? Wonderful.

"That’s not necessary," I said seriously, trying to keep my composure.

"What?"

"You don’t need to come with me," I replied, trying to hide my irritation.

"I don’t trust your taste in clothes. Just like I don’t trust your taste in many other things," he said with a sarcastic smile.

"Mmm… especially my taste in men. That one is terrible," I muttered, keeping my voice calm.

As I walked through the clothing aisles, he followed closely behind, his irritated gaze fixed on me. Every piece I touched, I was more shocked by the prices. My God, this was ridiculous.

"Don’t look at the price tags, Mia," he ordered, not even glancing at me.

My eyes widened at every absurdly expensive item I touched. But it wasn’t surprising; we were in one of the most prestigious boutiques in Colorado.

"I’m not used to this," I murmured, still in shock.

"Get used to it," he replied coldly. "You are the mother of my son, whether you like it or not. I don’t want you looking like a beggar."

His look of disdain hit me like a slap. Was I here to buy clothes or to get insulted for free?

I picked out the clothes I needed, still stunned by how much Ethan was willing to spend on me. As much as he was my son’s father, the truth was, we barely knew each other. It was just one night, and now I found myself trapped in a situation spiraling out of control.

After we were done, Ethan called me over.

"Come with me, I need to show you something."

Not knowing what to expect, I followed Ethan to a more secluded part of the boutique. We went up a few stairs, and suddenly, we were on a terrace. I was greeted by a breathtaking view of the Colorado sky, the mountains in the distance, and the stars beginning to shine.

"My mother always shopped here," he said, looking at the horizon. "I hated these visits; they were endlessly boring. But one day, while she was busy, I found this place. I always thought there was something special about it."

I watched Ethan for a moment, and for the first time, I saw something beyond the cold and distant man I knew. Standing there on that terrace, talking about his mother, he seemed... human. I felt a connection, something I wasn’t expecting.

Our eyes met, and we were standing too close, both of us staring at the sky.

But that brief moment of softness was quickly shattered when he returned to his usual cold demeanor, snapping me back to reality.

"I’m sorry about your mother," I said quietly.

"It was a long time ago. I don’t want to talk about it. It doesn’t change anything," he said firmly, turning to me with that hard expression. "Tomorrow, we’re putting the plan in motion to rescue Lorenzo. It’s a shot in the dark, but it’s our only chance."

The way he spoke, devoid of any emotion, reminded me of who Ethan really was. That fleeting moment of vulnerability disappeared as quickly as it had come. And even though I had glimpsed a more real side of him, I knew better than to lower my guard around him. Ever.

Ethan GreenwoodMy Lamborghini was parked in front of the mansion, lined up with the other million-dollar homes in the neighborhood. Though close together, each house felt isolated, as if the residents avoided any contact. I chose this neighborhood for its discretion and the low foot traffic. It was the kind of place where no one asked questions."Sir, everything is ready," one of the wolves informed me while adjusting the vehicle. We rarely used weapons—only when absolutely necessary. I preferred to feel my enemies' blood on my hands, or better yet, on my fangs.I hated the feeling of being cornered, of not having control over every detail. This plan couldn’t fail; there was no room for error. An innocent life was at stake. The life of the son I hadn’t even known existed until now.I rubbed my eyes, trying to shake off the exhaustion. Last night had been awful. Nightmares tormented me, and my control over my transformations was growing weaker.Nick entered the room with a deep sigh."

Their taillights were my only guide, and I prayed no one would look in the rearview mirror and see me following. Ethan GreenwoodThe only certainty I had that night was that I would feel like a piece of shit if I failed to rescue the pup."I need you to stay here," I ordered Mia, who was completely silent. She just nodded. Her eyes were wide, distant, as if she had seen a ghost—or something worse.I watched her. Her utterly angelic features could drive any being insane. Her light hair, contrasted with her sweet eyes, would make any wolf forget his responsibilities.I couldn’t understand why. Never had a human attracted me this way, and now I had a child with one. There was something extremely familiar about this woman. I just didn’t know what.I followed the tracks on the earth, still wet from last night’s rain. The night was dragging on, and so far, the bastards hadn’t shown up.My men were ahead of me until we spotted a small cabin in the middle of nowhere. In the forest, it was easy to hide—if you had the skill. And these kidnappers did.I sniffed as much as I could. It was their scent—I knew

Mia MillerThe small cold hands grabbed me as if they never wanted to let go. My son was terrified, and my tears kept falling."What the hell are you talking about?"I stared at Ethan, searching for a plausible answer to all the mess that was happening. He had to be crazy!"Mia, let's get out of here. As soon as we get home, we’ll talk," he ordered.I simply nodded.I cuddled Lorenzo in my arms and put my coat on him; it was cold, and he seemed to have a cold. Only God knows how my son had suffered these days, he was just a two-year-old baby, and I focused on not crying thinking about him being away from me.Ethan opened the door, and I got into the car, sitting in the back seat, while he drove. The silence in that car was almost deafening, but I didn’t know what to say, what to think, or how to act.Lorenzo fell asleep in my arms. I watched his little face and his blond hair; he wasn’t harmed, on the contrary, it seemed like the kidnappers hadn’t hurt him. And I knew that if they had

A large gray wolf, its eyes staring at me as if it were about to devour me at any moment, and I breathed slowly, afraid that even the smallest movement would end my life. I saw it... I knew that it was Ethan, but at the same time, it seemed like it wasn’t, and everything was confusing. My breathing was heavy, every breath I took felt like a monumental effort. I didn’t know whether I should run, scream, or just curl up on the ground and wait for it to end. I didn’t know if Ethan had control over this form, or if at any moment he could attack me without thinking twice. But one thing was certain: I was caught in a much bigger problem than I could have ever imagined.“What are you… Ethan?” My voice came out as a whisper, barely audible, as I tried to understand what was happening. Ethan GreenwoodIt was hard to explain the sensations Mia made me feel. With her pressed against the wall, so close that I could feel the heat of her skin, my hands firmly placed beside her head, creating an impenetrable barrier. Our breaths were uneven, interrupted by the desire that hung in the air around us. I watched her, every detail of her expression, from the fear in her eyes to the slight tremble of her lips. There was something about her that awakened a primal need in me, something I had never felt with anyone else. She was different, and that irritated me as much as it attracted me.The smell of this human was intriguing. My fingers clenched against the wall beside her head, fighting against the impulse to touch her. I felt torn between the part of me that wanted to protect her and the part that wanted to claim her for myself, without thinking of the consequences. An Alpha doesn’t let himself be carried away by feelings, especially by a human. I let out a long, controlled sigh as I watched Esther, my younger sister, arranging her bags in the room. Despite being siblings, there were moments when I forgot how relentless she could be, her temperament often mirroring my own."Did you have to make that scene?" I asked, crossing my arms and staring at her seriously."What scene, Ethan?" She turned around, raising an eyebrow with a hint of challenge."That thing you did in front of Mia," I replied, trying to keep my tone controlled, but unable to completely hide my irritation.Esther looked at me with that analytical gaze that always made me feel like I was under a magnifying glass. "She's human. I just found it strange, Ethan. You never brought women into this house, which used to be our parents', let alone a human."I knew she was right. This house was sacred to us, a place that carried memories of our family, and I had always kept it closed off, even to myself. Bringing Mia here, letting her into my life and the house where we

I clasp my hands together and ask... if the Moon Goddess, who they always talk about in the pack, really exists, to save me from this and take me back to Lorenzo. The car stopped abruptly. I felt the weight of the silence around me, except for the sound of my rapid heartbeat. Still with my eyes covered, fear coursed through my veins like poison. The doors opened, and I immediately felt rough hands pulling me out, without any gentleness.“Let me go!” I tried to scream, but my voice came out weak. Mia MillerI think more painful than loving someone and having it go wrong is liking someone and knowing, deep down, that it will never work. This was the suffocating feeling that surrounded me every time I looked at Ethan. He was in all my thoughts, every second of my day. Ethan was the first thought when I woke up, and the last when my head touched the pillow at night. Even though everything in me screamed to stay away, to protect myself from a feeling with no future, I couldn’t. He was a jerk, selfish, and yet, irresistibly a part of me.How did I let this happen? At first, it was supposed to be just one night. A damn night. Nothing more. I went into his arms seeking comfort, trying to escape the pain caused by Collin’s betrayal. She was strong; we just needed to refine her skills. As I watched the pack training in the distance, I felt my phone vibrate in the pocket of my jacket. The number was from Nick, always pragmatic and direct. I answered on the second ring, already feeling the weight of concern."Alpha," his voice was graver than usual, "we need to talk. Now. I, however, was far from feeling calm. Ethan had spoken about "training" as if it were simple, but the truth was, I could hardly imagine taking the first step. What did he expect from me?"You'll have to be patient, Mia. The process of transformation doesn't happen overnight. It takes time for your body and mind to accept your nature," he said, as if he could read my thoughts.I crossed my arms, feeling the tension rise in my shoulders. "So, what exactly do you want me to do? Just... transform? Like it’s that easy?"Ethan looked at me seriously, his blue eyes sparkling. "No one said it would be easy.
