HAZEL

"I demand an explanation!" Alpha Declan shouted.

I shiver, my focus instantly going to the male I have revered all my life. But he's not looking at me. He is looking at my father.

And my father… has a dark look and is glowering at my cowering mother.

“I…I…” she stuttered, her skin as pale as a snow “I didn't know… I…” she kept stammering.

"What the hell, Russell?" My father roared, his voice a thunderclap of anger I'd never heard before. "How could you not know she's...well, a goddamn Mongrel. You should have known!" His finger jabbed towards me, a muscle twitching in his jaw.

“I thought she was yours from the start,” my mother softly whispered. “I… you have to believe me. It… he found me… I tried to fight him… but I.. “

Her statements are all jumbled up. Maybe because I can't hear behind the pounding in my ears. Maybe because she can't seem to explain herself.

“I swear, I had no idea,” my father says, his words for Alpha Declan. “I will take whatever punishment you rule. This is not a reflection on our pack, it's a reflection on me and a whore as a wife.”

“He violated me!” My mother screamed. “I tried to fight him. I… I thought… I prayed and hoped that she was always yours, Rico. I…”

"They're infamous for their ruthless tactics," Cosmo grumbles. "It's a real possibility."

Alpha Arturo scoffed. "You're green, kid. Naive and inexperienced. You have a long way to go."

Cosmo narrowed his eyes. "I'm thirty-three, Father. I've faced those beasts in battle. I'm not a kid anymore."

“That doesn't give a good explanation to why she didn't report it.” Alpha Arturo utters the words with full authority and a hint of disgust. “We wanted your best female, and this is what you give us? A Mongrel of unknown origin?” Alpha Arturo spits on the ground near Alpha Declan's feet. “I have never been more insulted than I am right now.”

Alpha Declan says nothing, his eyes wandering to me before settling on my trembling mother. “What will fix this?” he asks. “I can offer them as slaves, if that would do?”

My heart stutters. What?

“You can kill them,” my father adds. “You can do whatever you desire. I reject them both.”

“Ricotta—”

My father's hand resembles a whip on the wind, slamming across my mother's cheek and sending her to the cold ground. “Hey, woman. You will never speak my name again, you fucking whore.” he follows it up with a hard kick to her stomach, then another to her head, knocking her out cold on the field.

My wolf instantly reacted with a fierce snarl, furious at his treatment of his mate.

Mates are meant to be revered, loved, cherished and protected.

His eyes find mine, the features in those dark orbs are unlike any I have ever seen. He takes a step toward me, but Alpha Declan holds him back with a palm to his chest. “This isn't your punishment to give, Ric.”

“No, it belongs to my son right here. He’s the one who is most insulted here tonight. He is the one you all have duped with an unqualified mate. He will choose their fates.” Alpha Arturo looks at Cosmo. “The final decision is yours.”

I try to stand, but my legs are awkward and refuse to hold my weight.

This… this has to be a worst nightmare.

How could I have a black fur?

My mother was violated by who?

By… by a shadow moon wolf?

My heart is pounding so hard in my chest that I don't hear Cosmo's approach. But I smell him, the scent of grass and man calling to my wolf on a base level.

‘Mate’ she whispers to me, purring in approval.

But the feeling is not reciprocated.

I can see the hatred in his eyes, the fury at having this whole arrangement ruined by my black coat.

Except, I'm still me.

I’m still the wolf my parents raised me to be.

I… I just have black fur.

Not white.

Maybe he will demand I never shift again and take me back?

A laughable suggestion. Because our children will still be tainted by my mixed heritage.

He crouches before me, his striking blue eyes glittering beneath the moonlight. I try to bow my head, but my wolf refuses. She wants to challenge him; to challenge them all.

She refuses to accept whatever fate he chooses for her. She's too strong to bow to him.

Yet she can't even stand.

I scream at her to lower her eyes.

She doesn't.

And Cosmo starts to glare. “You dare challenge me, you little wolf?”

No! I want to scream, but I can't. I can't speak. I can't even move. My wolf is in control now. I have denied her for so many years that she's absolutely refusing to let me run the show now.

He growls.

And to my absolute horror, my wolf growls back.

“You're just proving to me and all my men that you can't be tamed,” he tells me, his voice almost sad as he shakes his head. “A shame. I could have added you to my harem.” He stands fully, his shoulders squaring in a way that makes my wolf snarl.

She wants to rip him apart.

Because she's rejecting him.

The realisation hits me square in the chest, shocking me to silence.

And allowing my wolf to gain that much control.

I’m on my paws now, and my legs are stretching as she takes in the field of aggressive males. They smell wrong. Feral. Unacceptable.

She wants to shred them all into tiny pieces.

Especially the one I have called father all my fucking life.

She's furious at him for hurting our mother. Seeing her dark hair sprawled across her face on the ground, her eyes closed, her lips bleeding from my father's intense slap, has my wolf taking a bold step forward.

Cosmo growls, this time menacingly. “Do not move, Brute.” He tells my wolf, his voice holding a power similar to his father.

My animal snarls in response, not bending to his will.

“This” —Alpha Arturo points at me— “this is exactly why we fight the Shadow Moon pack. They do not understand hierarchy because their wolves are feral creatures without rules. They fuck and kill, and do not obey.”

My wolf snorts as though she can understand his words.

She disagrees wholeheartedly, her disrespect having nothing to do with a lack of understanding and everything to do with her refusal to bow to him as her Alpha.

And I knew that her disagreement was rooted in defiance, not confusion. She totally refused to acknowledge his authority as

her leader.

I don't understand the inclination or where it comes from, but I can't deny the sensation of tightness thrumming through my veins.

I don't belong here, I realise. I never have.

The one called Thea grins, but it's not a friendly sort of smile, more of a challenging one as he looked at the male behind me. “I suggest you move quickly, S.” “I always do, Thea,” the Alpha drawls, his chest vibrating my back and making my wolf sigh in response. She really likes his rumbling Hum. It's almost like a purr. “Do you want to run with me, sweetling?” He asks softly. “Or would you prefer I carry you?” ‘What in the fucking world is happening right now?’ I wonder, a bit dazed by this unexpected treatment I was receiving. SPARROWAs the moon began to climb the sky, Thaddeus and Thea returned, their arms laden with the loot they'd salvaged from the yacht. We'd abandoned it earlier when we noticed the guards patrolling the island in the wrong direction. Thaddeus set my folded clothes on the table, the suit in relatively good condition considering how I left it on the beach. Thea has the envelope of cash in his pile, along with a laptop bag and several other items from our trip to the mainland. "Where's the girl?" Thaddeus inquired, his brow furrowed in confusion as he found me alone in the kitchen. His voice, though soft, carried a hint of concern, his gaze scanning the room for any sign of her."She's taking a nap," I whispered, my voice barely a murmur. "She hasn't made a peep since I left her." I glanced at the clock on the wall. It had been nearly an hour. I couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. Perhaps I should have stayed with her, but I'd been so engrossed in my work.“In the guest room?” Tha

Is she always this... creepy?”He pursed his lips, a thoughtful look crossing his face. Then, a slow nod followed, and a quiet chuckle escaped. "You won't believe this, but the last time I was here, she tried to propose to me. She thought I was the cutest thing she had ever seen!" he whispered, a hint of amusement in his voice.I bit my lip, a frown creasing my forehead. It wasn't the usual reason for my furrowed brow. No, this time, it was the sight of that tiny witch, barely half Thaddeus's size, trying so desperately to capture his attention. It was a sight so unexpected, so absurd, that it left me utterly perplexed."Ah, yes, here it is!" She slammed a book down onto the table with a force that made me jump. The book landed with a loud thud, startling me from my reverie. She flipped open the cover, her fingers dancing across the pages as she skimmed thr

As they noticed me, Thea flashed a friendly smile, while Sparrow gave a subtle nod that made me blush slightly."Good morning, Soni. Where did everyone go?” Thea questioned while they both looked around.“Morning Thea, they went hunting.”They both nodded, understanding dawning on their faces. I chuckled softly to myself. "Your pack members," I mused, "they really need to get out more often. A little fresh air and sunshine wouldn't hurt.”“Why, what makes you say that?" Sparrow asked, his face creased with curiosity.“Alright, I told them that Thaddeus went to go beat down his meat and they had the weirdest looks on their faces.”Suddenly, Thea bursted out into laughter, his laughter echoing in the air and Sparrow just stared at me weirdly. “You told the pack warriors that Thaddeus' was… beating his meat down?” Sparrow asked, staring a

Sparrow had warned us that we needed to start at three in the morning to make up for any potential delays.By the time it was completely dark and the stars were out, the pack warriors on duty were circling the small camp and everyone else was either spreading there blanket to sleep or already fast asleep. I snuggled deeper into the thin throw, Thea's gift, but it offered little warmth against the biting cold. The chill seeped through the blanket, sending shivers down my spine. I tried to pull the blanket tighter, but it was like trying to hold onto a wisp of smoke. The cold air seemed to find every crevice, every exposed inch of my skin. I couldn't believe how much colder it had gotten. My head snapped up, curious to see how everyone else was doing. They all looked so cosy and warm, wrapped

HAZELThe half hour I'd spent sitting in the grassy part of the woods felt like an eternity. The silence, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant chirping of birds, was starting to get to me. I was waiting for them to return from their little hunting but as the minutes ticked by, a sense of unease began to creep in.Suddenly, a low rustle sounded from behind me, startling me out of my fearful thoughts. My heart pounded as I slowly turned my head around, my eyes scanning the line of trees. The noise seemed to have come from somewhere deep within the woods, but I couldn't pinpoint the exact source.A chill ran down my spine as I tightened my grip on the tennis racket I had brought with me. It was a simple weapon, but it was all I had to defend myself with. I tried to calm my racing thoughts, reminding myself that it was probably just an animal. But the more I thought about it, the less convinced I became.Suddenly, a large, black wolf appeared in the dim light. It

I wasn't sure if I should comment on his surprising stamina or just wait for a bathroom break, which seemed imminent judging by Thea's expression. As if he read my thoughts, Thea looked at Thaddeus and shook his head."I need to step away for a moment," he explained, his voice low. "Just a quick break.”Thaddeus sighed and called for a break loudly. Thea and a few other warriors from the group decided to step away from the main trail to find a private spot to relieve themselves. Seeing this as an opportunity, I leaned in closer to Thaddeus and whispered, "Hey, I think it's time you put me down. You've carried me for four long hours now. Your back must be aching terribly.” "No," he muttered, his voice barely a whisper. "You'll just slow us down. They had sent Sparrow off on an urgent errand, so we agreed to continue our conversation later.Thaddeus's dad stared at Farrow, his eyes wide with disbelief. He glanced at the strange creature on the floor, then back at Farrow. "You've got to be joking, Farrow," he said, his voice thick with disbelief. "We all know we haven't seen a rogue like this in ages. It's just… it's not possible.”"The stench of these scoundrels is unmistakable," Farrow growled, his eyes fixed on the fallen rogues. "Even in my old age, I'd recognize their foul odor anywhere. They are the most despised breed of villains, and I will never forget the mark they leave.”I stood there, utterly bewildered, as the conversation unfolded. I'd never laid eyes on a rogue, never smelled their supposed stench. All I knew was what others described, vague notions and fearful whispers. With a growing sense of unease, I ed

THADDEUSI couldn't believe what was happening. This was the third time we'd argued, and it all started over those rodent creatures. While I was still fuming, my wolf was in a completely different mood. He couldn't stop gushing about how adorable Hazel looked, comparing her to a cute little angry puppy. I rolled my eyes at his silly thoughts. She was cute, I would admit, but that wasn't important right now. We had more pressing issues to deal with. 'Would you stop? We have to deal with more serious and pressing issues right now and her cuteness isn't supposed to be one of them.'He froze and shook his fur out as the seriousness of the situation hit him once again. I was lucky that my wolf knew when to stop acting like a pup and start acting like an Alpha. I took his silence as a good-to-go signal and headed towards the dungeon where my father was dealing with the dead rogues."Father," I called out, my voice echoing softly in the dim, stone corridor. Only then did I find the strength to speak. “I honestly do not know, my mother had always said I had this gift. This gift only works on werewolves only. You see, several years ago, my grandmother decided to perform a ceremony in honour of the Moon Goddess.”“The kind of one where they make ceremonial fires and chant old scriptures?” Sparrow asked in surprise. As easy as it sounded, the ceremony was very elaborate and had to be perfect. From what my parents told me if something went wrong during the ceremony, the moon goddess would punish the entire pack. It was why several wolves were hesitant to perform such ceremony, but my grandmother wanted to take this risk. “They hit jackpot with that because the moon goddess was very pleased with their effort so she decided to bless them. She told them that the first child inside my mother's
