“I’ve missed you.” Aurora murmured, kissing Nathan.
“You saw me last night.” He replied, they kissed like they needed each other to breathe.
I couldn’t take it anymore, everything that happened two days ago and right now was too unbearable for me.
I stared at Aurora and Nathan, and my wolf began pacing, getting more erratic with each second. The pain that came from the realization of what had happened to me started spreading through me again.
I tried to ignore the feeling of suffocation, as I looked away from Aurora and Nathan.
But it didn’t work, everything felt unbearable, like a million needles piercing through my heart, trying to get out of me. My breathing got deeper, but no matter how much I tried I could not calm down my wolf.
The sensation grew more intense.
Finally, I gave up on staying strong.
I ran towards the direction of the woods. Away from them. Away from the pain they caused me.
“I can’t take this anymore.” I whispered softly in the woods.
“I need to leave this place.” I added, louder this time.
I didn’t know where to go or which pack to run to, all I knew was the fact that I needed to leave, the pain I felt every second I remained here was too much for me. But how should I leave? What would be best for me?
What would make me feel better?
My wolf whimpered. It seemed so desperate, and I had never heard her sound like that before. This was her first time experiencing true panic and pain.
A sudden shift in energy caught my attention. As if something just happened outside of sight, something shifted inside of me too.
A spark of anger ignited inside of me as I realized why that presence felt familiar to me. I clenched my jaw and inhaled deeply, trying to calm my wolf down.
“You need to stop whatever it is you’re doing.” Nathan’s voice suddenly snapped me out of my rage. He was standing right behind me, staring at me intently.
“What are you talking about?” I said, still looking straight ahead. My wolf wanted to escape from its confines, she paced frantically back and forth trying to break free, still angry with everything going on.
“The weird thing you’re doing.” He continued to stare, his expression unreadable. I couldn’t read him anymore.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I turned slightly to look back at him, still trying to control the urge to lash out. I didn’t know what he was going on about.
“Excuse me.” I muttered and walked past him.
“Alana.” He called out after me. I didn’t want to be more embarrassed, I was on the verge of breaking down.
I increased my pace, suddenly racing back to the pack.
I couldn’t stop thinking about leaving, and I just knew it’ll be impossible without someone else to help, but I felt more determined.
“I see you’re here.” Aurora's voice interrupted me. She approached me, the stupid smirk on her face. She stopped in front of me, laughing for a few seconds.
“Where’s Nathan?” She asked.
“How would I know?” I replied irritated, turning my back on her.
“Are you really going to talk to me like this?” She sounded annoyed now.
“Yes.” I answered shortly. “Leave me alone.” I tried to walk away, but her hand grabbed onto my arm and pulled me back roughly. I stumbled forward, trying to regain my balance.
“Don’t worry Alana. You’ll feel angrier soon.”
“What do you mean?” I finally regained my composure and looked at her curiously.
“She was right about you.” She added.
“Right about me? About what? What are you saying?” I furrowed my brow in confusion.
Her words had me confused.
She raised an eyebrow, “I guess I needn’t explain it to you anymore, huh?”
“I want to understand now.” I said.
“It doesn’t matter.” She shrugged.
“Of course it does!” I exclaimed. “You’ve really changed.” I mumbled under my breath.
She scoffed, “So what?” Her attitude was very different now.
I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly made her change so quickly and why she was doing this to me, but there was a change, nevertheless.
We stood next to each other quietly for a few minutes.
“Isn’t this the wannabe Luna of the pack.” A voice made me turn. I sighed as I realized it was some pack members, my eyes narrowed and I knew they were going to trouble me.
“I’m sure she thought he’ll make her Luna.” Another chuckled, I sighed as I swallowed.
“How did you handle being friends with a weirdo?” Another asked Aurora.
“I wondered how good I was at pretending I liked her, I’m happy the Alpha finally cleaned his eyes and realized that she wasn’t fit to be his mate.” Aurora replied.
“How can you say that?” I demanded.
“I’m just telling the truth.” She replied, rolling her eyes.
I stood there listening to every insult they threw at me, the embarrassment I felt two days when Nathan rejected in front of all the pack members increased tenfold.
I clenched my fists, as I stared at her, the urge to swing at her and make her pay for the hurt she made me face right now.
“Alpha Nathan is here.” The one close to Aurora tapped her on the shoulder making her rush to Nathan.
She tiptoed and kissed him, my heart began beating so fast I was sure everyone around heard it beat.
I watched them kiss and walk away hand in hand, the laughter continued and I sighed, frustrated with everything going on.
My wolf became restless again, making my emotions all over the place.
I ran back inside the woods, trying to push out the suffocation I felt. I sat down under a large tree, the breeze calmed me down.
My wolf wasn’t calm, but it didn’t act as erratic as it didn’t minutes ago. I clenched my jaw angrily, planning my leave from the pack more than ever.
I thought of where to go, which pack will accept me without calling me a rogue.
I suddenly heard footsteps, I turned around ready to see Aurora and her minions bothering me.
A gasp left my throat as I stared at the figure standing before me. Fear gripped me as I wondered if he was a rogue or not.
Alana’s POV.“Who are you?” I asked fearfully, my heart hammering in my chest and the back of my neck prickling with apprehension at this tall stranger. He was a handsome man,his lips were curled into an unreadable frown and he held up a hand to stop any further questions from me.His aura looked like that of an alpha, there was always an air around them, and he had that same look of authority about him that was common among Alphas. “I should ask you that.” He said, his voice deep and resonant. It sent shivers running down my spine at the sound of it, making my skin prickle with goosebumps.“I’m within my pack and you seem like a trespasser.” I managed to spit out. I took in a quick breath, trying to steady myself and calm my nerves down. He looked amused. “So, what is your business here?”He let out a low chuckle, “I came for a little visit, but I’ll be going right away.”“Can I join you?” I blurted out before I could stop myself. The man cocked an eyebrow, his gaze flicking from
Alana’s POV.“I’ll be leaving the pack today, I came to say my goodbyes.” I said, the words leaving my mouth quickly. The whole hall was deadly silent, the atmosphere growing tense. They stared at me in shock, jaws dropping, eyes wide and mouths gaping open.I gulped. I didn’t know whether to feel proud of myself or terrified out of my wits. I felt like I would lose my nerve and run away if I stayed any longer. “Why should we care?” Aurora demanded angrily. Her tone was dripping with derision and scorn. I bit my lip in irritation because I knew it would do no good to start arguing with her.“I don’t know why you think making a fuss about leaving will make us care.” Aurora added with a smirk, I knew she was trying to goad my reaction. Her face fell when she realized I wasn’t going to answer her.“She thinks she’s important.” One of Aurora’s new friends said with disgust on her face.“Right.” Aurora agreed sarcastically, before turning to me again and saying, “You just don’t want to
Nathan’s POV.*****A Day Before Alana’s Rejection*****I smirked when I thought of Alana, our moments together replayed in my head as if it was yesterday. The day I decided that she’d be mine and no one else’s. My lips pressed into a soft smile as my fingers trailed gently over my shirt, the one she wore after our night together.I couldn’t wait to announce to the pack that she would be their Luna soon.A knock on the door drew my attention away from my reflection in the mirror. The knock sounded again this time more urgent and impatient. My eyebrows furrowed slightly as I quickly pulled my hands back into the front pocket of my pants. I took my time walking towards the door, “Who is it?”“Good morning Alpha Nathan.” The seer bowed respectfully. Her eyes were full of worry which made me immediately uneasy.I nodded, “What’s the matter?”She swallowed nervously, “Your… your mate is…”“My mate is what?.” I demanded , my voice becoming increasingly louder as panic set in, “Is something
Alana’s POV.***5 years later***“Mom, can I get a new ball?” Liam asked, as he ran towards me with a torn ball, his shirt covered in dirt and grass stains from playing on the yard. “You’ve ruined your new ball.” I faked a glare at him, before reaching out my hand for the ball he held. He looks and behaves exactly like his father, I sighed as I ignored the slight pang in my heart.“Won’t I get another one?” He pouted , “please please mom,” he whined and pleaded as if there was no tomorrow. I chuckled softly, shaking my head.“I just need to have another one. Please mom!” He pleaded, I raised my eyebrows as he stared at me with his puppy dog eyes, even when they were grey just like his father. He looked so cute when he did that. His dark hair was sticking out messily and it was slightly messy because he had dirt all over his face, but his eyes shone brightly. “Okay, but only this time.” I smiled back at him and ruffled his hair gently, earning a small giggle from him. He really h
Alana’s POV.“The pack is secured for now, everyone can go back to their houses.” Alpha Ethan said, his eyes still lingered on me, like he had something to say to me.The beta walked close to me, “The Alpha will like to speak to you after this.” He whispered.I nodded, my heart beating frantically as I wondered what it was, unsettled by the fact that the alpha wanted to speak to me about...With everything that just happened recently, I don’t know what it could be about.“Wait at home for me okay, I need to speak with the Alpha.” I turned to Liam who nodded and walked out with other pack members.“What is it?” I immediately asked Alpha Ethan to walk towards me.“I don’t know how to say this to you.” He paused for a few seconds, looking uncomfortable. The Alpha never looked nervous or awkward around anyone.“Say it.” I swallowed hard waiting for him to speak up.“It concerns your old pack…” He trailed off.I stilled, my heart hammering fast inside of me, “My old pack?” My throat felt d
Nathan’s POV.I stared at Alpha Ethan, my fist clenched immediately, I imagined Alana and himtogether and I couldn’t help but get mad, so much so that it surprised me.It’s been five years since I saw her and knowing she went with this Alpha made me more curious in seeing her, though I knew it won’t amount to anything.“Welcome Alpha Nathan.” Alpha Ethan said, his smile never faltered, “We are delighted you have joined us today.” He motioned for me to take a seat at the round table and sat down next to the empty one next to me.“Thank you, I’m happy to be here, the rogues have been making lots of trouble recently.” I sighed. The rogues made it difficult for many packs recently and they grew stronger day by day. Their little attack on our packs made us join together.I offered to join mostly because I knew he was the Alpha that Alana followed years back..Alana.My mind strayed immediately to Alana, I couldn’t keep her out of my head, coming to the pack she’s residing in made me think
Alana’s POV.“He is here.” I muttered to myself as I stared at him, surprise filled me to see him, though I pretended earlier when he talked to me.But right now, as I stared at him, I couldn’t say anything, or do anything. I just stared at him while he explained how our packs would work together. It annoyed me that I’ll see him everyday, it seemed like I won’t avoid him successfully.“I hope we all understand.” Nathan asked, looking around before he continued, “You still answer to your respective Alphas.”I heard the grumble of agreement between the two packs and it seemed we both agreed that we needed each other to defeat the rogues.I tensed immediately I felt his eyes on me, I didn’t stare at him but I felt it, I tried to not look at him but I couldn’t help it. He stared at me with such determination yet, a little confusion too. I ignored him until I could no longer feel his gaze on me, then I stood up immediately and announced that we could mingle together. The commotion in the
Nathan’s POV.I growled as I stared at the punching bag, my eyes burned from the glare I gave Alpha Ethan and my fingers throbbed from the repetitive impact punch. The sounds reverberating throughout the boxing gym were muffled by a thin wall that surrounded the area. This was one of the many reasons why I loved it immediately we joined together.“You like the training room?” Alpha Ethan asked.“Yes I do.” I sighed, I know he has feelings for Alana, the way he stared at her earlier, it made me jealous and I didn’t like it.I punched harder, harder, harder…He stood there watching me with an amused expression, his arms crossed over his chest. His head tilted slightly. “Is there something wrong?” He asked. My fist slowed and then stopped. The air was tense between us, it has been this way since I realized his feelings for Alana, he didn’t hide it, she was the only one oblivious of it.My jaw clenched and I looked away before responding. “Nothing.”I punched the bag, my unsettled and co
Nathan’s POV.I could see the annoyance on her face, it made me wonder if she’ll let me in.Alana has made it clear with her actions recently that she wasn’t going to forgive me anytime soon. She stared at me with narrowed eyes, a sigh slipped past her lips.I remember how she sent me away yesterday, how she let Alpha Ethan walk in.I clenched my jaw, the memory of him being treated like he’s Liam’s father made my fist clench as well.I understand that she has every right to treat me this way, but it still felt like someone had stabbed me in the chest with a knife.I wanted nothing more than to start again with her, but she didn’t give me the chance to do so.“What are you doing here?” She asked with an unimpressed look that was supposed to be cold, but I could sense the underlying tension between us.My brows furrowed, “I came to visit Liam, see how he’s doing.” The words left my mouth slowly, I didn't want to sound too eager or desperate for her attention, but I was tired of waiting
Alana’s POV.I watched him walk away, his shoulders down a little, I couldn’t help but feel slightly bad for sending him away.He walked slowly towards the route leading him away from my place.I felt a little regretful, but I couldn’t change my decision, I had to stand on the fact that his change of mind and his sudden niceness towards me might not last.Alpha Ethan comes in with a smile, “So how is he?” He asked, his head inclined towards Liam.I rushed towards my son, my heart beating so loudly it made my cheeks hurt. I could hear him breathing heavily under my grasp and I let out a small sob.His eyes were closed but tears were streaming down his face, as if he was going to cry out loud again at any moment.“It’s okay, he’ll be fine.” Alpha Ethan said reassuringly while rubbing circles into my back. I didn’t look up, I could tell that he was looking at me worriedly. “I can’t believe this happened, he already hurt his hand and now this happened.” I sighed and began pacing the room
Nathan’s POV.I ran towards the direction of the border immediately. Alpha Ethan’s beta announced that rogues were trying to break in.The commotion made it difficult to get through the crowd and I could barely see what was going on. All I knew was that there’s a group of people trying to come into our territory. I paused when I noticed Alana and Liam, Liam screamed as he held leg.I turned to my beta who ran beside me, “Join his beta and him to the border, I need to check on my son.” I ordered. My beta nodded before she turned around and followed them. “Stay safe.” I told him as I ran off.It was hard to make out everything clearly from where I stood, but I moved towards them.“Please help me move his leg.” Alana said, tears were falling down her face and her face was pale. Her hands were shaking as Liam kept screaming.I lifted the cupboard off his leg and winced when I saw the damage. The nail from the cupboard had pierced his skin deeply. Blood trickled slowly onto the concrete
Alana’s POV.I rushed to Liam’s side and carried him up immediately, the bruise on his arm looked more serious up close, as well as his cut lip which was bleeding profusely.I had to stop myself from screaming,”I’m so sorry my love.” I patted his head.“It’s okay mom.” He replied teary eyed with a shaky smile as he stumbled while trying to stand.I tore part of my clothes and wrapped it around his wound, my heart hurt for him seeing him like this, my wolf howled in pain.I turned to Aurora who started laughing, “Look at how stupid you both look, mother and son standing there like idiots.” She snorted.I made Liam sit silently by the tree trunk, I stalked closer to her.My palm landed on her face as I snapped at her, “Shut up. You’re not funny Aurora.” I said coldly.“Why would you do that to my son?” I demanded.“Did you just hit me?” She yelled back.“Yes” I answered simply.Aurora tried hitting me back but I grabbed her wrists tightly, my nails dug deep into her skin until I heard h
Aurora’s POV.I watched Nathan from afar, I could see the longing in his eyes and how he wanted to hug his son immediately Alpha Ethan hugged him.I sighed, frustrated that everything so far didn’t happen the way I wanted. I yelped slightly when I realized the root of the tree I held on to pierced my hand through a thin branch as I was about to jump up. “Oh crap.” I mumbled under my breath. I stared at the direction of Alana’s house and realized that Nathan left, my anger at watching them increased, it made me upset that this wasn't going the way I planned.I turned around and walked back to my house, my anger not dissipating , I just wanted everything to go back the way it was before we came back here.I yelled to the empty house immediately I got in, throwing my bag on a chair, I let out an irritated sigh, “What am I going to do now?” I thought miserably. “Maybe if I ask the seer to say something else it would work.” I murmured to myself before turning away from the table toward
Nathan’s POV.“I went to your place and I couldn’t see you.” Aurora glared at Alana, her gaze lingered on Liam for a while before she stared at me.“Why are you looking for me?” I asked, my brow furrowed. She looked away from me but not without glancing at me once again. “I had something important to tell you.” “Okay, this is the part where I’ll go,” Alana interrupted, she grabbed Liam, “come on Liam let’s go.”I watched her walk away, the urge to follow her immediately came over me, but I knew I couldn’t do that with Aurora here.“What is it?” I turned to her with a frown.“You’re really not behaving like an Alpha anymore, you keep following Alana around, I know I’ve said this before, but it’s not looking good.” She crossed her arms over her chest, “you need to remember why you ended your relationship with her, you’re the one who told me what the seer said.”“Okay.” I didn’t plan on saying more, the seer’s words were still fresh in my head, I didn’t tell anyone what she said yet.“
Alana’s POV.“What do you want Nathan?” I yelled, my voice echoed through the passageway we stood in.“I came to meet you concerning Liam.” He held my gaze.“What about my son?” I asked. My voice had a sharp edge and it wasn’t hard for me to notice how he flinched back.“He’s my son as well.” He shot back.“I don’t have time for this.” I sighed and turned around to walk away. “Wait!” Nathan called after me but I was already moving. “Come on Alana. Let’s talk about this. Please…” There was something pleading in his tone and I stopped, turning around and facing him once again. “Let’s talk about what Nathan?” I looked at him with a blank stare. I had nothing left to say to him. Nothing left to say about anything other than the fact that I will not give him a second chance. The last time Nathan was in my life, things didn’t end well. Nathan let out a sigh, “I heard Liam has a school competition today and I want to attend as well.” He paused for a moment, waiting for me to react. When
Alana’s POV.I paused, shocked that Liam even asked me that. I guessed that he could hear me from inside, but I didn’t expect him to hear everything we said.“Uhm…” I stuttered, my heart hammered in my chest as I held on the door tightly. He stared at me, and I felt like Nathan was staring at me simultaneously, I swallowed, my heart still hammered in my chest. “Yes.” I replied after a while. He stared at me, his eyes held mine for some seconds like he had something to say to me. My stomach flipped, nerves made me swallow again.“I thought as much.” He replied.I blinked, not understanding what he just said. “What do you mean?” I asked, confused.“I saw him earlier and he looked like me, so I thought as much.” He explained casually, almost nonchalantly, like what he said meant nothing important at all.“Is there anything you want to ask me?” I asked nervously.Liam glanced at me, “No.”My eyebrows furrowed, but I nodded, not knowing how to react.“So… what now?” I asked tentatively.I
Alana’s POV.I tensed when I caught Nathan’s eyes on me, he stared at me suspiciously, his eyes on Liam and back on me.I know he heard Liam call me Mommy and it was so clear Liam looked exactly like him.He stalked towards me, with precise steps, but didn’t stop there, he stopped right beside me.It hurt to see the resemblance between them so close. His expression darkened slightly as he stared at me.“Is he my son?” He asked in a dangerous low voice.“Liam go inside.” I ordered.Liam nodded and ran inside, satisfied when he closed the door, I moved close to Nathan.“What do you want?” I asked him through gritted teeth.“Am I Liam’s father?” He demanded. His eyes were burning holes into me. It felt suffocating, almost. “I asked a question Alana.” He growled.I stayed silent. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything.“Answer the damn question Alana.” Nathan barked.“You have no right to ask me that!” I snarled. “You lost that right years ago.”“I agree that I lost that right, but righ
