Chapter 1

Aria’s POV

I walk into the apartment, putting off the heavy coat I was wearing. It was that time in the middle of December when the weather was a bit cold. Outside however was covered with snow.

I look at the time with a little smile on my face as I remember today to be me and Caleb’s Second wedding anniversary.

My eyes scan at the decorations around the house and breathe a heavy sigh. The balloons were already up in the air glued to the ceiling. The candlelight set in a love form, around the cake I baked.

The cake however was placed on a table in the middle of the room. To make the whole preparations, It took me the whole day to make this surprise for Caleb. Now that he’s out of work, I had to just wait for him till he returns.

At that moment, I begin to hear footsteps approaching the door, I quickly rush to turn off the light. Guessing it should be Caleb.

I rush back to hide in a corner and wait to shout Happy Anniversary. My eye squint in the dark as I look at the door knob being pushed open in a rush.

“S-surprise!” I pause my lips as my eyes looked to my husband and my fake stand-in sister both kissing passionately as the light in the room turned on.

“Aria?” Caleb calls out to me, releasing his lips from Susan’s. “What are you doing here? Weren’t you supposed to return in two months or so?”

I could not breathe or utter even a word. Maybe I forgot what it felt like to breathe. I was bewildered by what I just witnessed. This is impossible! No way this was real.

“Talk or say something, Aria, or are you deaf?” Susan nonchalantly snap at me and I turned my eye at her with fury. “Your husband is asking you a question, you’re meant to reply, goddammit!”

“What’s going on here?” I ask Caleb ignoring the presence of Susan. “There must be some kind of explanation to this.”

“What do you want me to say?” He approach me where I stood, looking into my eyes, “I’m sorry? No, Never. You know I love Susan. This is no new thing.”

I bite my lower lips, my eyes about to be watery, I lower my gaze. I couldn’t bear to look him in the eyes as he uttered those words to me without empathy.

“But, you’re my husband, how can you say and do this to me,” I whisper under my slim voice but he just replied with a muffled hiss.

“Why can’t I? You should have stayed where I asked you to be.” He thunder, his voice cold and icy. “Why did you return without informing me? Your coming back is the biggest mistake. You’ve spoilt what should have been a perfect marriage.”

I just hate how he put it like that. The audacity for him to speak to me in such a manner when I had just caught him cheating on me?

“You have no remorse do you?” I met my gaze with his dark almond eyes. He blink and after, he sigh defeatedly. “Today is supposed to be our second wedding anniversary and what did I find you doing? Cheating.”

He don’t even listen to me speak, instead, he turn his handsome face from me and exchanged mocking laughter with Susan.

“And so fucking what, Aria.” He raise his hands in dismay. “I actually forgot. Maybe next time, I’d check if we’d be having an anniversary, so I wouldn’t be caught cheating.”

After he say that, I landed him a dirty slap on his cheek, my gray eyes watering and tears streaming down my face.

“You imbecile. I’m pregnant! How would you say that in front of me and our unborn child?” He was silent for a while as he held his face with his hands. Maybe I’ve got through to him. His eyes stood in shock. “So please come to your senses. If this is a joke, stop it right now.”

He raise his face and looked at me, his eyes red. I swallowed hard my face drenched by my tears.

“You bitch!” He roar and rushing at me and pushing me to the wall, “I’ll make you regret raising those dirty hands of yours at me.” His push knocked the breath out of me.
