Chapter 9 Vincent's POV (2)

Kelsey indeed provoked Irene.

She fainted to test my true feelings. I had already contacted the hospital since Kelsey's body wouldn't last through the month.

At that moment, Frank thought I was going to harm her and wanted to send her away again.

I considered Frank naive. After all, Kelsey was my everything!

When Kelsey was first taken to the basement, Frank stayed up all night.

I told him that Kelsey had gone to a faraway place and needed to please Irene to get her back.

Frank was compliant.

Every interaction with Irene was an act of appeasement on his part, much to her delight.

The day before Kelsey emerged, I feared Frank might reveal the truth. I reminded him sternly to keep pleasing Irene, or we might lose Kelsey forever.

Frank performed well. However, I found myself unable to meet Kelsey's gaze.

On the drive, Kelsey asked if I intended to kill her.

Her question shocked me. How could she think that? She was the one I would protect with my life!
