"What's this?" I asked, pointing to the red ink stain on his right palm.

"Ohhh… that? It's nothing… I was just working on a new selection," he replied, taking his gaze off his arm and fixing it on mine.

"What selection?" I asked, uncertain if he had mentioned anything of that nature to me previously. He had promised to always be open.

"Don't worry, it's not a big deal. I'll fix all of that, but first, we have to get going," he urged with a smile, curving my arm into his as we stormed out of the mansion.

A few minutes into the drive, I was already parked outside the hospital. The view before me sent butterflies swirling in my stomach, and just as Becky had reported, the media were all over the arena, waiting for my arrival. A flash of excitement and accomplishment swelled in my subconscious.

As I stepped forward, all focus and attention turned to me, making my cheeks flush.

It was meant to ruin my reputation and probably affect me negatively, but James was there once again to ensure th

Liam's POV“Why hasn't she called? And why hasn’t she separated from him yet?” I asked myself, feeling utterly frustrated as I picked up the cup of black coffee from the table. It was meant to be a simple delivery; an accomplishment. I rubbed the back of my head in agony, my thoughts circling around the possibility that she hadn’t received the envelope. My gaze darted to the report I had just received this morning, stating that the two were seen together, holding arms and driving out of the house. My heart seethed with rage and deep disdain for them. If only I could find a clue to dismantle his plots; that would be a great start for me, or so I thought.I knew very well that I was the target, and Olivia was just a pawn. But she didn’t see it that way, even after I had told her to her face who he truly was. A sudden pang struck my heart, though I wasn’t sure why. It wasn’t the usual feeling of dread toward Olivia but something softer; affection. I shrugged it off, convincing myself tha

  • Never: HIS REGRET   28: Her Return

My gaze drifted toward Mum, who remained fixed in the opposite direction, obviously avoiding mine. I tilted my head downward to behold the child still wrapped around my mid-section. The urge to pull her away surged, but I restrained myself; that would be a little too harsh for a child her age.“What? How am I your daddy?” I asked almost immediately.“That’s because she is your child,” a familiar voice said, approaching from the left side of the large living room, obviously coming out of the washroom. I turned to meet her gaze, almost stunned.“Fiona!”“Yes, it’s me, and it’s been a long while, right?” she questioned, moving closer to take her seat. Just as expected, the little child loosened her embrace and ran back to sit next to Mum, who now opened her arms for her to hop in.Everything felt like a nightmare. I stood rooted to the spot as my gaze shifted amongst them intermittently.“Don’t just stand there and watch. You’re as incompetent as your younger brother thinks,” Dad blurted

  • Never: HIS REGRET   29: Haunted 2

Olivia's POV The thoughts never left my mind as I drove back home with Jumia. I needed to do something; I knew I had to find out what was going on and identify that tattoo once again. That memory kept replaying in my head, bit by bit, scene by scene. I held my head in my hands and closed my eyes once I was seated on the couch.“Mum, you don't seem alright. Did anyone hurt you?” Jumia's voice broke through my thoughts, and I lifted my head to meet his gaze. I had no idea what was happening to me or why I was so consumed by these memories that I had practically ignored my son, putting them before him; oblivious to the fact that he was still standing right in front of me.“Mum is alright,” I said, trying to assure him with my words, even though I knew he wouldn't believe me.“Mum, you’re not fine. I noticed it from the moment you came to pick me up. Tell me what’s bothering you, and I’ll make sure I fix it for you,” he replied, his innocent gaze locked on mine.I marveled at his confide

Liam's POV “What the heck do you think you’re doing? Why are you here?” I asked in a sad tone. My gaze darkened with dread as I watched him move closer, the doctor following along.A funny smirk formed at the corner of his lips, leaving me speechless but filling me with even more bitter grief than before. I couldn't believe they had all planned to do this to me. I thought family was supposed to protect each other. But no, in my case, it was just the opposite, and I was getting fed up with it. I wouldn't condone any of this anymore, no! Not anymore.I stood still, my heart seething with rage and agony. My hands clenched into fists as I watched everything unfold right before me.“I did no wrong by bringing the doctor over, as instructed by Mum, for the DNA test. If the child truly isn't yours, like you claim, then why deny a DNA test that would prove to everyone that you’re right?” Dominion chimed in, his voice filled with sarcasm. I huffed, feeling disgusted by their entire presence.

I unlocked the door swiftly in rage and threw the keys on the floor, ignoring the calls and tantrums. I slammed the door behind me and moved quickly toward my car.Once inside, I drove off into the dark, speeding with no direction in mind. All I wanted was to clear the air, to free my heart from worries, to wake up and find out it was all just a nightmare that never existed. The sad expression on that child’s face when I declared I wasn't her father tore a part of my being into shreds. I still felt the sting of that moment even after leaving the house. Her loving smile, the way she had run to embrace me, calling me "Dad," kept popping up in my heart. However, I still couldn't come to terms with such a discovery or connect the dots.“Fiona… the child… how?” I asked aloud in my thoughts, speeding even more into the dark.A flash of light shone brightly against my eyelids, beaming so intensely that I winced, trying to absorb the glare. But its illumination was so overwhelming that I grip

Olivia’s POV Bang! The loud sound echoed at the back of my head. It reeled through my being, my memories gradually fading; everything becoming blurred. I could see the dim lights of the car pointing in a direction.“Mum!” I saw Jumia calling out loudly, his innocent face blurring with concern that broke my heart. My eyes closed.*****I followed the car, accompanied by Becky, in the direction. I felt the urge to pull over and alert the cops. However, I sensed a slight movement in the back seat of the car. My heart skipped a beat, and I immediately turned, only to come face-to-face with an unknown figure.I swiftly turned back and felt something cold and hard pressed against my head from behind.“Drive,” a masculine voice commanded. I winced in fear, my foot pressing against the throttle as the car continued down the lane.“What the heck?” I muttered internally, trying my best to suppress the fear. • Never: HIS REGRET   33: Escaped?

He was already next to me. My eyes shut in fear, my heart pounding rapidly. I held my breath, expecting his touch on my neck; or perhaps a strike on my back. I knew I had been caught, and I feared the consequences of my actions. The door was barely large enough to conceal me.My eyes remained shut, but something felt off. His hands weren’t on my shoulders, nor did I hear a roar or feel an attack. Instead, the approaching footsteps passed by. Slowly, I opened my eyes, holding my chest as I took a deep breath. I still couldn’t make sense of what had just happened, but I had to keep moving. They mustn’t find me. They wouldn’t get to me.I felt the urge to take the second entrance, so I did. I reached for Becky, who was just as frightened as I was. My hands brushed against her shoulders, my gaze fixed on her fragile expression. Olivia's POV EarlierAfter my encounter with James, My heart suddenly tensed.I felt as though I had been too rude; or rather, too harsh, to him.“Ma’am, the files you asked me to drop in your office,” Becky chimed, following after me as I unlocked the door and stormed back inside. She placed the files on the desk and attempted to leave, but I stopped her in her tracks.“Becky!” I called out.“Yes, ma’am,” she replied, turning to meet my gaze.“Why have you been so distracted and absentminded lately?” I asked, feeling the urge to hear her out.It was unlike her to act this way.She lowered her head, silence creeping in, except for the sudden sound of an outburst.“Is something wrong? Talk to me,” I urged, sensing her unease.“It’s personal, ma’am,” she replied, tears slipping from her eyes. At that moment, I felt compelled to move closer to where she stood.Placing my hands on her shoulders, I reassured her. “You know you can always lean on me, right? I’m not just your boss; I’m also

Becky discreetly dropped the files she was holding before anyone noticed. She crouched low instantly. "Ma'am, I was about to place the files in your car as you instructed when I bumped into him. He was so lost in thought that he forgot where he was going," she said, her voice dripping with sympathy. I stared at her theatrics in disbelief. "But I never instructed you to place the files in my car. I told you to take them to my office," Olivia said, her tone sharp. Becky raised her head. "Ma’am…" My heart raced. My legs trembled slightly. Had she heard our conversation? “Ma’am, I’m so sorry! I thought you had instructed me to drop them in your car,” she exclaimed, hurriedly packing the files and storming back inside. Olivia turned and watched her leave, her unstable movement slightly unreadable at the moment. “Olivia, I came to meet….” “I don’t need any apologies. I have a lot to sort out today at work. Don’t you have something to do in your office? Or,” she raised an eyebro

  • Never: HIS REGRET   58: The Brain Behind it

I arrived at my mansion a few minutes later after countless attempts to reach her, all of which proved futile. Just as I was entering the compound, I spotted her standing at the entrance of my apartment. My rage surged. She was about to turn and leave but stopped in her tracks, her eyes glistening with a smile as she awaited my arrival. I stepped out of the car and closed the door behind me, moving toward her with determined, angry strides. “I checked for you in your office, but…” “How dare you?” I barked, cutting her off mid-sentence. She startled at my outburst but quickly regained her composure. Leaning in, her half-slipped dress, torn up her thigh, brushed against my midsection. “Step aside,” I roared, pushing her away. She staggered backward slightly, her face turning pale red. “Who gave you the guts to blackmail me and post all that to the media? Ahh!” I retorted, my voice raised, raw and guttural. “I never did any of those,” she replied, her gaze turning teary, her ton

  • Never: HIS REGRET   57: Finding Nina

I decided to give him a call to book me a nice place to rest my head for the night. Picking up my phone, I realized it was off, which was unusual. I turned it on, only to receive numerous voicemail messages and redirected calls. ID: Olivia… I gasped, feeling unease as I played the voice messages. My heart clung to a tiny strand of hope that it wasn't over yet. I just couldn't stand losing her now; just as I couldn't stand the thought of Nina trying to ruin my image, and now, my mom's threat. Everything lingered in my heart as I finally gathered the strength to make the call. ***** It was still early when I arrived in New York, driving through the quiet hours of the morning so I could meet my schedule. First, I had to visit her. I arrived at her building exactly at seven a.m. I knew they were still preparing for work and school. That was the perfect time to come over. Taking a deep breath, I stretched out my muscles, they felt sore from the long drive and the previous day's e

I lifted my gaze to meet hers.“Alright, Mum,” I replied, moving into the mansion. My mind was already set on what I needed to do.Soon, I was up on the balcony where Mum sat, her legs crossed. Olivia's POV He had such an amazing personality, with a way of getting to my heart. Somehow, I felt I would have forgiven him immediately. But I didn’t want my decisions to be based on mere gifts, I wanted them to come from my heart. Infidelity was something I despised deeply. What proof was she talking about?I tried to ignore it, but the stunned gazes from my staff caught my attention, drilling into my heart.I turned toward the cameras. “I certainly don't have a hand whatsoever in his predicament. I just didn't like his closeness to my fiance, that's all,” I addressed, feeling increasingly drained inside.Hot sweat swirled on my forehead.“Then what about the phone calls? How do you explain them?” That same voice asked again.I narrowed my gaze into the crowd, trying to grasp the identity of this person attempting to ruin me, but I couldn't figure out who she was.The eagerness of the media personnel, the cameras all focusing on me, fighting to be the first to capture my react

At that point, I didn't know what got over me," I replied, my gaze fixed on her."I'm so sorry. No amount of words could mend your broken heart or undo what I’ve done. Please, just find it in your heart to forgive me," I pleaded yet again."Why haven't you told me about her all these years?" she asked, her gaze locked on mine."That's because I thought I had successfully put her behind me, but I never knew she would come back," I replied defiantly. My gaze remained on her for a while before she looked away.I stayed crouched, lifting the parcel I had gotten for her."This isn't a bribe or a way of buying myself back into your heart; it's a gift of my love for you.
