View MoreI was humming to the music that was playing on my phone as I was preparing a list of things I needed to get from the grocery store.
I opened the fridge and looked through the items in it, then I heard my phone ringing and I turned to the kitchen counter.
I took the phone and smiled when I saw the caller as I answered the call.
"Tory good afternoon, how are you?" I asked and she told me she was fine.
Tory was acting strange and told me she needed to speak to me but not on the phone, she wanted to meet up with me.
Even though I told her she could just tell me over the phone she insisted we meet up at some restaurant.
I saw nothing wrong with deciding to go since I wanted to go out for groceries.
I took my car keys and left for the destination. She told me she wanted us to meet.
Tory was always with Andrew not leaving his side for once even before he became my boyfriend.
She is a childhood friend of his and one of his business partners, so I knew whatever she wanted to say must be something important.
I quickly went to the restaurant she said she was waiting for me at.
But when I got there I saw Andrew, my boyfriend , with her and I wasn't surprised since they worked together.
Even though I greeted them warmly when I got to their table, they acted cold and distant. I sat with them and it felt strange.
I felt like an outsider amongst them as if I was the one intruding.
"How come you are here?" Andrew's stiff voice asked as he gave me an unreadable look.
"Tory told me she wanted to see me." I answered.
"Tory?" Andrew called questionly with a raised eyebrow ,as he glanced over to Tory ego nodded.
"Yes I invited her over." Tory confirmed.
"I am pregnant." She announced ,as she took her glass cup, taking a sip of her water and eyeing me curiously.
"Tory!" Andrew barked at her and I glanced over to her then Andrew.
"Um… congratulations." I told Tory who rolled her eyes.
"You still don't understand what I mean ,I said I am pregnant." Tory emphasized on the word pregnant and I furrowed my brows in confusion.
"Yes I heard you, I told you congratulations, is there any other reason why you are telling me that you are pregnant?" I asked her in confusion.
"Lucy, I think we should leave." Andrew interrupted and he got up from his seat pulling me up to my feet. I grew even more confused.
"I am pregnant with Andrew's child." She informed me and I glanced at her in more confusion.
Being Andrew's close friend she knew well enough what occurred between us and how I was currently pregnant with Andrew's child.
Her telling me these words was like slapping me across the face.
"I ..I don't understand." I stammered pulling my hand loose out of Andrew's grip.
"Tory what nonsense are you saying?" Andrew asked her angrily.
"I think it's now time you choose who you want to be with Andrew. I am not going to be your mistress, it's either me or her." Tory said firmly gesturing to me and I was still wondering if they were acting or something like that.
"Lucy ,let's leave." Andrew said.
Every part of me told me to and leave with Andrew and not listen to these accusations of hers but I wanted to stay and listen as well.
Andrew is my world and I can't stand to watch someone badmouth him.
Tory sighed deeply before opening her hand bag and taking out the pictures from inside and tossed it on the table. I glanced over to it and my heart skipped a beat.
With shaky hands I took the picture and I saw them kissing and another they were laying on the bed cuddling and smiling at the camera.
How?
When did this happen?
Oh right she was always with Andrew and I won't be surprised but Andrew would never do this to me.
"You don't expect me to believe you over this?" I said pointing at the pictures even though I was at the point of breaking down.
She opened her handbag again and took out the test report that showed she was pregnant and placed it on the table.
"Are you trying to make a mockery of me?" I was irritated by her sight.
"I don't want you to be fooled for too long,I understand well enough how you live and I want to make sure you understand that I was here first before you, Lucy , you stole him from me, not the other way round...you just need to get out of the picture and he would be mine again." Tory said unapologetic.
"Ask him about it yourself.''she added and I turned to Andrew who has been quiet throughout all these.
"Andrew, please say something about this and tell me it isn't true! " I half yelled in frustration drawing attention to us.
"Stop shouting at me Lucy, let's go home." Andrew said as he held onto my hand again but I wasn't ready to leave till he said something about this.
Tory took her purse.
" I don't think you understand Andrew,if you leave with her I am driving straight to tell my Father how you got me pregnant and what to abandon me for this woman and naturally your family will hear about it ." Tory threatened Andrew.
" I hope you are ready for what will happen afterwards Andrew,I am not a woman to be taken for granted ,I never was and it won't start today,I won't watch you stay with her when I am carrying your child." Tory threatened as she made her way to the door of the restaurant.
It felt as if I was being slapped in the face with no physical impact.
Wasn't this the same Tory that would take me out for shopping, the only person I could regard as a friend after I got into a relationship with Andrew, Tory even cheered me up when Andrew's parents refused to accept me as their son's girlfriend, they didn't even want to see me.
How could she say something like this to my face?
"Go back home Lucy, we will talk about this later." Andrew said as he chased after Tory.
"Tory wait!" He called after her and I seemed to snap out of my thoughts as I chased after them.
I caught up to them in the parking lot and blocked their way.
Andrew hissed at me.
"Andrew, please say something, tell me this isn't true." I pleaded with him in the brick of tears.
"Don't get me angry Lucy!Go home." He shouted at me and his voice made me flinch as I stood frozen and they both got into the car and drove off. While, I stood there like an abandoned trash.
She looked out the window. It was raining outside. The plane was still taxiing, rolling slowly on the taxiway. This was it, the last time she would be in the land of her hometown for a long time. She had planned to go back no sooner than six months. If she was to start anew, then today should be her past, tomorrow should be her today, and yesterday should not be revisited too soon. She would not think about the people she left. Not her friends, nor those who were once her clients back in Abalido and Quinaeros—like Roy. Not even Rhonda, the last person she said goodbye to just an hour ago at the airport. And not The Boss—especially not him. She had to make room in her mind for new people, new acquaintances, and new kinds of relationships. She took out the card from her purse—Rhonda had saved
She was not sure how to enjoy the glitz, attention, and admiration she received on the night of the lavish farewell party The Boss threw for her. She would leave for Jakarta as a Trelleconian the following day, and cease to call Georg her boss—and start calling Abram her boss, instead. Something she had never thought would happen. It was surreal—and not something she enjoyed at all. The Boss was her boss now and always—that stood no more. She saw he had spared no expense for her. He closed down the entire Eggs and Flowers for the party, and had them fill the room up with more flowers than what it already had. He made sure that not only the entire management of Abalido and Quinaeros were there that night, but also people who were dear to her. Rocco was there, and a couple of clients she had had cl
"So, you’re finally letting her go," Abram said, seated comfortably, gnawing a cigar, with a drink in his hand—The Boss was doing the same. The Boss said, "I have to," from the mentally opposite side. "It was her decision." He brought to mind the day following their talk the evening after the celebratory party; she had called him to say she was seriously considering the offer, and needed a week to think—and thus his turbulent state of mind. She got back to him yesterday to confirm. Crushed—the seconds that passed tortured him all throughout the night. He met with Abram the following day—this day—to let him know. He forced himself to come to terms with her decision: she would take Abram's job offer and leave him.
It was a glorious day for all of them. The Trelleco board had met and came out to support the Indonesian project, and appointed Abalido and Quinaeros Inc. as their consulting partner. The decision was unanimous—Abram got the unity he wanted not only at the management, but also at the board levels. Kronos had withdrawn their bid the day before when Aerlman—as Trelleco's COO—requested a clear list of key resources to be included in their counterproposal—as he did Abalido and Quinaeros. He acted on the advice Gina gave through The Boss. Surely enough that would have disclosed Kronos' intention to supply inadequate resources if they had not pulled out. To the people who knew, Gina was the star of the private party that the two companies jointly threw together that evening. With the latest thing
Giorgio Castelli was a successful restauranteur. He started his business by opening a small Italian restaurant in Bellevue. The place was so small it could only host eight people over two small tables at once. But that did not deter the determination of his customers to have his excellent cooking
"Colin! What are you doing here?" Her moment of recalling was rudely interrupted when a grinning Colin appeared before her. "To finish what we started. Now, let's take those panties off of you." He advanced close
Pete was restless. He began his day by looking at his wristwatch. He did so hourly, and left meetings with his team while they were still in progress. He took his lunch at his desk, and declined Abram's invitation to meet over drinks in the evening. His secretary had consistently failed to get hi
"Georg, if Colin makes good on his blackmail, not only could he go to Benina, he could also go to Kronos. If Kronos contacts my board, it will be worse." Abram had called The Boss who was then waiting at the airport executive lounge for his flight back to Seattle. "It could be made into a scandal
