Evelyn.

My heart was pounding very hard in my chest as I was led away from the podium by Alpha Gaius. I had spotted my father just as we were stepping on the podium so I knew he heard everything that Alpha Gaius had said. I had half expected the man to climb the podium and demanded that I leave where I was and return back to Alpha Cyrus.

“Impossible!” A man’s voice that I recognized all too well growled amidst those that were cheering us up.

Everywhere became silent as all eyes turned on him. He ignored each and everyone of them and just went in a bizarre search around the room with his eyes. When it finally landed on who he was searching for, he made a beeline for the person.

The person in search of Alpha Cyrus, who looked like he would rather be anywhere but where he currently was.

“How dare you?!” My father yelled as he moved rapidly toward the Alpha.

I decided to ignore them both and just focus on the people who were now asking questions.

“How lucky it is for the both of yo

Evelyn. “Now, what do you want?” I hissed at her. I just knew that she was going to say something annoying. Something that would make me feel like hitting her on the head with a sharp object. I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out why the woman would stop at nothing until she maltreated me or something. From the corner of my eyes, I saw one of the plain clothes guards made a move to come rescue me from her but I shook my head at him. If I needed saving, it wouldn’t be from a woman like her. “Cat got your tongue?” I hissed at her again when all she did was stand there and check me out from head to toes. If she thought that she could make me uncomfortable, then I was ready to show her that that would not work. At least, not now when I needed to know what was going on with my father and my ex husband. “You look… gorgeous.” She said, shocking me, even though it looked like she was going to choke on the ‘gorgeous’ word when she said it. I looked at myself after hearing the compl

Cyrus. How dare she?! How dare he?! How dare they?! How dare any of them? What was Alpha Gaius thinking when he announced to the whole world at the Lunar Gala that my ex wife was now his mate? How could he have made such a reckless move and I didn’t notice it right on time until it was too late? And Evelyn. She had supported him. She had given him her consent to do that, hurting me by her action. I wish I could just ignore the two of them and carry on with my life, but that was not possible. A lot was at stake at the moment because of those two idiots. And I had tried to rectify that mistake by trying to pull Evelyn’s emotion and love back to me, using the deep affection I knew she had for me before, but it didn’t work out as I thought it would. I had thought that all I needed to do was ask her to be mine again and she would disengage from Alpha Gaius, but I soon understood the error of my judgment when I saw that the love no longer shone in her eyes. Instead, there was some

Evelyn. I want you to come back to me!I turned from the side I was sleeping on to the other side, trying to dislodge the thought from my head. I want you to come back to me!Again, I twisted and turned again. I want you to come back to me!I hissed as I slept on my back, my chest facing upward, looking at the chandelier and trying to follow the pattern of the light that shone through it in hope of getting the words out of my brain. On!I want you to come back to me!Off!Come back to me!“Arrgggh!” I screamed as I realized that nothing I did worked. No matter how I tried to skip or forget about it, it was not working. I just couldn’t let go of the words Alpha Cyrus had spoken to me that night at the Lunar Gala about three days ago. I couldn’t help it when it appeared as if the whole of me just wanted to remember. Since the event of the Lunar Gala, I stilled my heart and tried to pretend that nothing was out of place with me, and that no matter how anyone tried, I was never going

Alpha Gaius. I could feel it with every fiber of my being that Evelyn had not been herself ever since we came back from the Lunar Gala event. She avoided me like I was a plague. Even when it was time for the Four Associates meetings, she always had one excuse or the other to avoid going. I knew that whatever had happened to make her change like that, it was the time she had with Alpha Cyrus when they were dancing back at the Gala. Now that everything was looking the way it was, I blamed myself for not insisting that he shouldn’t and wouldn’t dance with my woman. But the idiot had made it so innocent that he drove me to the edge. He had played the card of the people, knowing that I couldn’t have refused him when all eyes were on me to see what I would do. Even if I had given in to the pressure of letting him dance with her, I shouldn’t have left him alone with her. Whatever was happening to Evelyn now was because of whatever he had the chance to discuss with her the moment they wer

Evelyn. Life was so good again. After everything that had happened with me - with messing around in my head with the thought of going back to Alpha Cyrus, and ignoring the man that had been there for me through thick and thin - I was finally back to being myself. “Hey, baby!” I called out to Alpha Gaius as he came out to the living room. “Good morning!” I said once I got his attention. I blew him a kiss from where I was and watched with a smile as he pretended to catch it and plastered it right on his lips. Right there! How could I have thought of leaving a man who would die for me just for the one who was ready to kill me?“Hey, kitty. Good morning.” The man said when he got to where I was seated. He gave me a kiss on my cheek after inhaling my scent for a few seconds. “Something smells good.” He moaned in my ear. I knew what he was trying to insinuate. I slapped him on the arm to keep him back in focus. “Sit and let’s eat breakfast,” I told him. When he looked like he wanted t

Alpha Gaius. “So, like I was saying before, I really would love it if you and I could work together to bring Alpha Cyrus down. I would have loved to do it by myself, but you know that I am now old and no longer have enough strength for battle with a young blood like Alpha Cyrus and yourself. But I want to make sure he pays for all his atrocities toward my daughter.” Alpha James continued the moment we got to the office and we were both seated. Now that Evelyn was no longer in the room with us, I knew I could be free with the man and truly discuss what was on my mind. That was why I wanted us to continue the discussion in my office, where Evelyn would not get to see the kind of man her father was. “I do understand your point, Alpha James,” I began, looking at the man intently. “And I do want to work with you as you’ve requested because the man hurt my mate.” I shrugged as I said the last part. All the whine, my eyes didn’t leave the man. I took note of every single thing about him,

Evelyn. “How dare you!” My voice was a tone or two or even maybe three times louder than it usually was. I couldn’t believe my ears. After all these while, I was finally able to put a face to the person who made me have sleepless nights and always got me scared and lonely. How heartless could a person be to go as far as that? Especially to someone who was supposed to be their own family. “Why?” I asked after a minute. “Do you hate me that much?” I asked, looking at him. Out of all three of them - him, my sugar, and my father - he seemed to be the one who hated me the most. But I never once thought that the hate was enough to make him send me death threats. “Since you are no longer with Alpha Cyrus, I’ll tell you.” His voice didn’t carry any remorse for the things that happened. I waited for what I knew would break my heart once I learned of it. I wanted to tell him I was not interested, but I knew it would be a lie since I would always think of it every single day and would keep

Gaius. Holy fucking this! How could I have lost my guide and allowed this man to take me unaware? And to think that I was already aware of his antics, yet I allowed myself to relax. Maybe it was because I thought that if I alerted him to the fact that I knew what he was thinking about, that would make him back down. Little did I know that would fuel his anger instead. “No, you don’t!” I yelled at the man when he rushed over the table in an attempt to get the phone with me. That didn’t stop him. Instead, he flew over and stretched his arm to reach me. I moved my seat backward, and that was the first mistake. The chair toppled over and I found myself losing balance. Both the chair and myself were on the floor in recorded time. I hit my head against the wall and felt my eyes doubling everything in my sight. I blinked once, then twice to get out of the forge. Once I felt myself getting back to normal, I stood up as fast as I could, ready to move out of the reach of Alpha Jane’s, but I

EvelynThe pain came in waves, sharp and relentless. My breathing was shallow as I clung to Gaius’s hand, his steady presence the only thing keeping me grounded. I had prepared for this moment—or at least I thought I had. But nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming pressure, the way my body felt like it was tearing apart.“Breathe, Evelyn,” Gaius said softly, his voice calm but firm. “You’ve got this.”I nodded, though the words felt distant. Another contraction hit, and I cried out, my wolf stirring restlessly inside me.Grace entered the room, followed by the midwife, a kind but no-nonsense woman named Marion. She took one look at me and started giving instructions, her voice steady and reassuring.“You’re doing great, Evelyn,” Marion said, kneeling by the bed. “But the baby isn’t in the right position yet. It might take some time.”I groaned, my grip on Gaius’s hand tightening. “I don’t know if I can do this,” I whispered, tears streaming down my face.“Yes, you can,” G

He couldn’t hurt me now.Gaius’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. “You’ve been quiet,” he said softly, glancing at me.I turned to him, offering a small smile. “Just thinking.”“About Roman?” he asked, his tone careful.I nodded. “He’s bitter. EvelynI stood barefoot on the sand, the turquoise waves lapping at the shore. Gaius walked up behind me, his arms circling my waist as he pulled me against his chest. “What are you thinking about?” he asked, his voice low and comforting.I smiled, leaning into him. “I was just trying to remember the last time I felt this peaceful.”He kissed the top of my head. “It’s been a long time, hasn’t it?”“It feels like a lifetime ago,” I admitted. Our honeymoon had been nothing short of magical. After everything we had been through—the battles, the loss, the constant chase of Cyrus’s shadow—this felt like a dream. We had traveled to a secluded island, a place untouched by war or worry, where the only sounds were the waves and the laughter of the locals. For the past few days, we had let ourselves forget about the rest of the world. We’d explored hidden waterfalls, hiked through lush jungles, and shared quiet meals by candlelight. It felt like we were rediscovering each other, peeling back th

EvelynThe days after the healer’s news were filled with quiet worry. At first, I thought I was just exhausted from everything we’d been through—the battles, the losses, the rebuilding. But my body felt heavier with each passing day, and the symptoms only grew worse.Gaius barely left my side, his eyes constantly flicking to me with a worry he tried to hide. But I could feel it in his touch, in the way his hand would linger on mine, or how he’d wrap an arm around me as if afraid I might disappear.“You need to rest,” he told me for the hundredth time as I sat on the couch one afternoon, my head resting against his shoulder.“I am resting,” I said, though the ache in my body made it clear that rest alone wasn’t enough.“We’re seeing the healer again,” he said firmly. “Something isn’t right.”I didn’t argue. I didn’t have the energy to.The healer, an older man with kind eyes and steady hands, greeted us warmly when we arrived. But as he examined me, his expression grew serious. He did

EvelynThe land was quiet, the chaos of the fight replaced by an eerie stillness. It was over. Cyrus was gone, and his reign of terror had ended. But as I walked through the remains of the battlefield, the weight of everything we’d lost pressed heavily on my chest. Those that died were being gathered, their bodies lined carefully, as survivors worked tirelessly to restore some semblance of order. I spotted Gaius in the distance, directing soldiers and healers with the same calm authority that had always been his strength. Even from here, I could see the exhaustion etched into his features, but he didn’t falter. He turned as I approached, his eyes softening when they met mine. “Evelyn,” he said, stepping closer. His hand rested gently on my arm, his touch grounding me. “You shouldn’t be out here. You need to rest.”“I’m fine,” I said, though the truth was far from it. My body ached in ways I didn’t fully understand, and every step felt heavier than the last. But I couldn’t sit idl

GaiusThe battlefield was eerily quiet. Smoke curled in thin tendrils from scattered fires, and the once deafening sounds of battle had faded into an uneasy silence. Around us, Cyrus’s forces lay defeated, either dead or having fled into the shadows. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, it seemed like we might actually win.But Cyrus wasn’t done.He stood alone in the clearing, his once-pristine black coat torn and bloodstained, but his stance was still defiant. His smirk, cruel and venomous, clung stubbornly to his face as though he knew something we didn’t.I tightened my grip on my blade, my wolf pacing restlessly inside me. “It’s over, Cyrus,” I said, stepping forward. “Your army is gone. Surrender now, and maybe we’ll let you live.”His laugh echoed across the field, cold and sharp. “You think I’m afraid of dying, Gaius?” he spat. “You think this is the end for me?”“It is,” I said firmly, my voice calm but unyielding. “You’ve lost everything.”Cyrus took a step forw

She felt so fragile in my hold, and the thought of her being hurt clawed at me.Behind me, Raven led the way, limping but determined. Despite her battered appearance, her eyes burned with a fierceness I hadn’t seen in years. She had gathered guards and allies in a makeshift camp deep in the woods—a safe zone where we could regroup and plan our next move against Cyrus. The soft murmurs of voices and the faint glow of campfires appeared ahead. Relief flooded through me. At least we’d reached some measure of safety for the moment. The guards at the perimeter stiffened as we approached, their weapons raised until they recognized us. “Alpha Gaius!” one of them called out, rushing forward.“Clear a path,” I ordered, my voice tight. “She needs care.”They stepped aside without question, their faces etched with concern a

His head was bowed, his body trembling.“How many this time?” I asked, my voice low and steady. The rogue flinched, his fear bleeding into the silence. “Three squads, my Lord,” he stammered. “They... they deserted last night.”I sat back, my fingers curling around the armrests of the throne.“Three squads,” I repeated slowly, “And what did they take with them?”“S-supplies, my Lord,” he whispered, barely able to meet my eyes. “Weapons, food... they stole what they could carry.”My wolf stirred, snarling at the edges of my mind. Traitors. After everything I had done—everything I had sacrificed—this was how they repaid me?“You’re telling me,” I said, rising from my seat, “that a third of my army has turned tail and fled?
