Chapter 6

There was only one couch outside, and Felicia had Derek sleep on it. She spent the night in my office chair. When she got up the next morning, she looked tired. Surprisingly though, she wasn't giving me the cold shoulder.

Felicia poured a glass of milk and peeled a hard-boiled egg, handing them to me. As she did so, she asked, "Honey, the fees for the classes I've been taking with Mr. Hoole are about due. Can you pay for another year?"

The fee was close to 7 grand every three months. That would be nearly 21 grand a year. A normal person wouldn't even make so much in a year even if they didn't spend a dime, and Felicia wanted me to hand over that much money so she and Derek could have fun? No way in hell.

Without even looking at her, I said, "I don't have the money."
