Nine o’clock, night time.

Silvia Alberich was just about to pour herself a glass of water after tucking her daughter into bed when the door was kicked open abruptly.

Her husband, Ryan Pierce, barged in angrily and dashed straight towards her.

He grabbed her by the collar, his eyes red with fury as he yelled, "Did you go see Mariah today? What the hell did you say to her?"

Silvia remained calm in the face of his heated questioning. "Yeah, I told her I'd expose her if she keeps ruining our family, and that I'd make sure everyone knows she's a shameless mistress of yours!"

"You evil witch!" Ryan roared, flinging Silvia violently.

Silvia’s slender body was absolutely no match for his strength; she stumbled backwards before falling. As her tailbone collided with the cold marble floor, warm tears of pain immediately started forming within her eyes.

Ryan couldn’t care less about her condition; instead, he loomed over her menacingly, warning her with a harsh tone. “Do you know she’s been admitted into the hospital from a drug overdose? If anything were to happen to her, I swear I’ll make you pay!”

He rushed out the door; Silvia sobbed silently to herself, alone with her thoughts.

‘Am I wrong for protecting my marriage?’

Mariah Sommers had always been the one living in Ryan’s heart. She was Ryan’s first love, and Silvia knew about her existence even before they got married.

Silvia didn’t seem to mind this at all. Mainly due to the fact that Mariah lived overseas during her entire marriage with Ryan. That, and she was confident her sincerity would move Ryan’s heart. She simply thought it was just a matter of time for him to love her the way she loved him.

However, she couldn’t lie to herself any longer, not after what she had witnessed a few days ago.

She was attending a party the other day, acting as Ryan’s plus-one. Turning the corner around the toilets, she noticed Ryan and Mariah hugging each other in the distance.

“Ryan, you’re the one I love the most!”

“They forced me to break up with you back then, and made me date your brother instead! I had my reasons. I didn’t have a choice!”

“I don’t care if you're married! I don’t even mind being your mistress! All I want is to be with you! Nothing else matters.”

“I really, really do love you, Ryan. I missed you the whole time we were apart…”

Mariah was practically wailing in Ryan’s arms, whereas he remained silent. Though he was a married man, he didn’t push her away despite her making advances on him.

Silvia, on the other hand, felt a sharp pain in her chest; she knew full well that her husband wasn’t rejecting his first love. In her point of view, Ryan’s silence meant he had already made the decision to abandon her and their daughter. He was ready to open up his arms and welcome Mariah back into his life.

That was the reason Silvia looked for Mariah earlier. She couldn’t possibly just sit back when another woman was professing undying love to her husband, let alone the fact that the woman said she didn’t mind being his mistress.

Ryan’s previous actions instantly crushed Silvia’s suffering fragile heart, the heart that once loved him so.

‘So is it my fault that Mariah overdosed? Did he really have to call me a witch?’

‘And what’s he going to do to me if something bad happens to Mariah? A life for a life?’

Silvia stayed on the floor, her sorrowful sobs slowly turning into soft laughter; as if she had gone mad.

Seeing how the man was out all night, it was quite obvious to her that he was by Mariah’s side at the hospital.

The next morning, Silvia sent her daughter to kindergarten as her usual gentle self. After that, she headed back home to pack her things.

Since that day was her mother-in-law’s birthday, Silvia decided to bring up divorce during the celebration, in front of all their family and friends. She figured this was the best way to leave Ryan, as she won’t be giving herself any room for regret by being upfront.

She wouldn’t ask for anything except custody of their daughter, which was why she only had one luggage containing several pieces of clothing and some important documents.

Time reached 5.30 PM. Ryan returned home with a hostile expression, getting ready for his mother’s birthday celebration.

When he entered the bedroom, he found Silvia doing her eyeliner at her dressing table. She was clad in a vivid, bright red dress.

Seeing how nonchalant she was infuriated Ryan beyond anything. Anger colored his tone as he snarled at her, “How are you still in the mood to do your makeup?”

Mariah got her stomach pumped last night, and was in an extremely weak state. In comparison, his wife was dolling herself up to the point she could seduce an entire country.

Silvia put down her eyeliner with a smile, replying calmly, “Why wouldn’t I? Today’s your mother’s birthday. Of course I have to clean myself up.”

It was their last day as a married couple as well, so she naturally wanted to bid her goodbyes while looking her best.

True to her intentions, her makeup was rather bold. As she turned her head to reply, the coldness in her eyes was clear for Ryan to see.

Unable to contain himself, he scoffed disdainfully, “No matter how much makeup you put on, it won’t hide your toxic personality.”

In the past, Silvia would immediately start sobbing if he spat harsh words at her. It was something Ryan despised more than anything.

He assumed she was merely playing an act, as if she were always the damsel in distress. If she were as pitiful as she made herself seem, she wouldn’t have slept with him while he was drunk, nor use a child to coerce him into an unwanted marriage.

On the contrary, Silvia didn’t look the slightest bit hurt. Instead, she gave him a cocky smile. “How am I toxic? Has your little lover died? Or has she fallen into a coma?”

Silvia’s choice of words were cruel and simply insulting to him. In a fit of sheer rage, Ryan grabbed her viciously by the neck. “Silvia Alberich!”

‘Did this woman hit her head? How could she wish for Mariah’s death?’ He was incensed.

Despite suffocating from his painful grip, Silvia continued mocking him. “I dare you to kill me right now. It’s about time you get your happy ending with Sommers, anyway.”

Ryan could feel his veins popping; he couldn’t understand the sudden change in her attitude. She used to be soft spoken and modest, so he didn’t know where this bitterness came from.

His eyes were fixated on her cherry lips, then moved downwards to her eye-catching dress. The strapless design complemented her fair smooth skin well.

Taking a small gulp, he let go of her neck. Right after, he pinned her to the bed behind them with both arms.

Silvia was alarmed by the way she was being treated. She screamed, “What are you doing?!”

Ryan smirked, stripping her down while replying nastily, “What else can I do? I’ll just have to teach you a lesson so you know your place.”

Color drained from Silvia’s face. She struggled with all her might, still screaming at the top of her lungs. “Let go of me, Pierce!”

“Are you insane? We still have to attend your mother’s birthday party!”

All her screams fell on deaf ears, especially with how furious Ryan was. His control freak tendencies only grew stronger as she persisted in retaliating.

“What’s the meaning of this? Explain!” Harold questioned angrily as he shot Ryan a dirty glare. The old man knew well enough to realize that Silvia was being absolutely serious to have announced her divorce in this manner. He was greatly saddened and enraged, as he had known how awkward the young couple’s relationship was. Nonetheless, Harold thought the two would get along as years passed. Not to mention, they already had a child together. He never expected their relationship to progress towards the worst ending possible.“She has no say in this matter!” Ryan growled, expressing his anger right before he stormed out of the place. He was most definitely implying that he would never agree to the divorce, and would use everything in his power to make sure it wouldn’t happen.Silvia didn’t head home that day. She hoped to take her daughter far, far away; while Ryan could finally achieve his happy ending with Mariah. Thus, despite her daughter's cries, Silvia had to compose herself and console the little one. However, the tears still remained in her eyes when she spoke. "Autumn, my dear, don't cry. Aunt Rosa’s sick, and I'm taking care of her for now. I won't be home tonight, so sleep with Papa, alright?"Rosaline also had a child with her ex-husband, a little girl only two years older than Autumn. Rosaline managed to win custody over her daughter, but was currently busy with work. Hence, Rosaline had to send her daughter to her parents so they could take care of the child in her stead.Back then, Silvia would bring Autumn along to Rosaline's apartment. The closest interaction Ryan had with his daughter was when she greeted him at the door. Autumn would always stand there with a big smile and wish him good luck at work, or welcome him home from work. That was the limit to their affection for one another. Many times, Ryan simply chose to not show any affection towards his daughter, even going as far as to avoid looking directly at her adorable face. Autumn simply looked way too similar to Silvia; it was as if they were carbon copies of each other. They even had the same expressions and attitude; especially that godforsaken smile. He didn't understand how they had so much positivity in their hearts, or how they always had the energy to be so bubbly all the time. He felt like he would be blinded by their bright smiles the moment he laid eyes on them.He disliked the mother and daughter in that regard. Hence, he refused to have any interactions with them. However, someone's smile had faded through time and her light was dimmed as w

It simply made him feel worse, as he usually had the luxury of waking up to a clear mind.Even then, Ryan Pierce was still the man who managed the entirety of Pierce Group. As soon as he washed up and put on a clean suit, he once again appeared as the cold and heartless CEO.Exiting the master bedroom, he scanned their lavish apartment unit; the absolute silence haunted his very being.Normally, the entire place would be filled with the lovely aroma of coffee by the time he woke up, and in the kitchen would stand a certain woman. She would always be busy making breakfast for the entire family.Knowing that he loved drinking coffee, Silvia bought a coffee machine so that she could personally make him a cup every single morning. Ryan gritted his teeth throughout the entire time he read the divorce settlement. It seemed Silvia only wanted custody of their daughter, and nothing more.He scoffed while clutching onto his mouse. 'Ha, how nice of her to not demand anything. Does she even realize what’ll happen to her after divorcing?''Once we're divorced, she'll be rid of her title as Mrs. Pierce and has to leave the Pierce family.''She has no talent or skill to her name, since she married me the moment she graduated university. She's never worked a single job, and naturally wouldn't have experience in any field.' Back then, Silvia had been so deeply in love that she didn’t care how deep the fall was. She had always stubbornly insisted that their relationship would improve after marriage, even more so after she gave birth to his child.'My parents, grandparents, and many other marriages started out this way. They worked out, didn't they?' That was what she told herself at that time.'Many couples have fallen deeply in love and experienced many obstacles in their lives. But at the very end of it, most of them continue striving in their relationship just to raise their children well. Isn't that the case most of the time?'However, she had no idea that Ryan's heart was made of stone. No matter how much she tried to love and please the man, he didn't reciprocate her feelings at all. With Silvia hanging up on him again, Ryan got so angry that he slammed the landline phone back in place. She did not have time to change, so she simply put on a down jacket and went out. She opened the door and walked out stealthily, out of fear that she would wake Helena up, and Helena would find out that she was going down to meet Rowan in the middle of the night. Helena would surely think that this kind of behavior was inappropriate. When passing by the living room, Evelyn glanced in the direction of Helena’s bedroom. The lights had been turned off, so she was probably asleep. Helena’s physical condition was not as good as it was before the surgery. After all, she was getting older and had undergone craniotomy, which was a major surgery, so she could not keep up mentally and physically. She would go to bed very early at night and wake up late in the morning. After Evelyn left the house quietly, sh

She laughed loudly when she was happy, shed tears when she was sad, never hid her true self, and was a frank and sincere person. Why wouldn’t men like such a girl?Rowan laughed. He did not mean to slander Selena; he was simply analyzing Selena’s current situation from his perspective as a man. Selena might indeed be a good girl in Evelyn’s eyes. After all, Evelyn was a woman who only cared about Selena’s personality, but men paid more attention to a woman’s temperament and charm sometimes. Everyone naturally had their own preferences. For example, Rowan preferred someone simple like Evelyn, whereas some men might prefer someone with a stronger personality like Selena. Evelyn had to call Charles after she could not reach Selena. “Charles, is Selena home? I can’t seem to reach her on her cell phone.”Charles frowned when he heard Evelyn’s words. “She’s not back yet. He was wrong. He was really wrong. He treated the person he wanted to protect so coldly and harshly. It seemed that he had not been in a relationship for too long that he had forgotten how to love. Fortunately, it only took him this once to understand the crux of his problem. Therefore, he stroked her cheek gently and reassured her in a deep voice, “It won’t happen again.”Evelyn chose to smile slightly in relief in response to his apology and assurance. When two people are together, they need to understand and accommodate each other in terms of personality, temperament, and living habits. Since they had only officially been together for a day, this was even more essential for them. As he said, he was an ordinary man, and she was an ordinary woman. Their relationship was that of an ordinary couple, so it was normal for them to quarrel, have disagreements, and lose their temper. Evelyn felt that there was nothing that could not be solved as long as it did not involve principles

“Getting dinner!” Rowan announced angrily, then he placed her in the passenger seat, got into the car, and drove away. Evelyn had no other objections since they were going to eat. Anyway, she had already called Helena earlier to tell her that she would not be going back for dinner tonight as she would be having dinner with Selena. Not long after the two had gotten into the car and driven out, Selena called and asked Evelyn worriedly, “Evelyn, how did it go? Did you manage to coax him yet?”As Rowan was sitting next to her, Evelyn could not answer whether she had managed to coax him. Therefore, she hesitated without saying anything. When Selena heard this, she knew that they must not have reconciled yet, so she gave her advice on the other end of the line. “It’s fine. There’s no man that can’t be coaxed. Just one kiss will do. If he still can’t be coaxed, give him two kisses. If that doesn’t work, just kiss him all over until he’s no longer angry!”Selena’s voice was loud enough,

As for Shane, who was to be introduced to Evelyn, he simply stood there leisurely the whole time, looking at the three of them as if he was watching a good show.
