I frowned at them in surprise, “What?”
“It is necessary.” He justified, but that was not what surprised me.
Suddenly, immense guilt consumed me and I felt like the most horrible person ever. Here he was seeking his friend’s help to find out who attacked me and I had just assumed she was just his new fling. The more reality sank into me, the worse I felt to have ever doubted his loyalty to me. The disappointed look he’d given me earlier when I made him aware of my suspicion seemed completely justified now.
The more I got to know, the more I understood the magnitude of his feelings for me. Ever since he met me, he had been nothing but perfect. He never missed a chance to get me out of trouble. In his presence, I felt safe.
A thunderous look crossed Marcus’ face as he witnessed the scene unfolding before his eyes. The air around us had come to a haunting silence, my racing pulse being the only sound I could hear. The tension in the room was palpable and his menacing eyes found mine. It was only then that I realized that my entire body was shaking with fear, prepared to brace for the impact that never struck me. Instead, his sudden arrival was what took me aback. The murderous glare he was harboring for Benson spoke of a silent promise that only I seemed to comprehend. There was no bounds to his anger, and like a lion, he would not rest until he went for his prey. Right now, that was Benson, and he had little chance at escaping his doom. In front of me, Benson stood rooted in his place, surprised to find Marcus in my room. Seeming to have regained his sense, he pulled the belt away from me and let it fall
“Kiara?” I faintly heard Marcus’ voice in the background. At that moment, all I could hear was my own heart beat. It was hammering against my chest, causing it to heap up and down with my ragged breaths. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I hadn’t noticed when Marcus had come to stand before me. It wasn’t until he shook me strongly by my cheek that I jolted back to reality.I gasped for air as he cupped my cheeks, rubbing soothing circles on my cheek bones. I looked up at him with widened eyes.“Marcus.” I said, “What am I gonna do now?”His lips came to a thinned line below his nose as the bridge of it crinkled. “You won't do anything
Marcus’ POV“Why is it that whenever you visit me, it’s always about her.” Sherman gave me a suspicious smile from across his table. My face remained unchanged, a stoic expression fixed on it. “Somehow, Sherman, I always find her in distress caused by either the Alpha’s son or the Beta and his family.”Sherman frowned, “Had Leslie caused any trouble again? I’d already had a word with her just last week.”“Did you?”“Yes, as a matter of fact, I did.” He said defensively, offended at my suspicion.
I was immersed in deep thought when I heard a knock at my door. After the talk with Sherman, I walked back to my office to get some work done before leaving for class. However, his words kept running through my mind, preventing me from entertaining anything else. What did he mean when he said I ought to know about Kiara’s past? I was aware of the fact that I didn’t know everything about Kiara, and that there were things she was keeping from me. However, the opportunity simply hadn’t presented itself for me to question anything.Last week when I spent the night at her room could have been a great opportunity if not for the circumstances. Kiara looked eager to learn about me too, but I gathered that she was disturbed from everything that happened to her that day and that rest must be the only thing on prio
Kiara’s POV After school, Anna and I decided to step out for a brief while to grab some coffee. We had planned this day out a while ago, so I had already cleared up my schedule to reserve this day to spend time with her. Lately, my friendship with Anna was blooming. We were seldom worried about the implication of being seen in public, and how it would affect Anna’s life. If someone told me that I’d become this close to her a few months ago, I would have hardly believed it. That possibility seemed impossible to fathom then, but thanks to Marcus, it now seemed as though anything was possible. I knew I only had him to thank for this change in people’s behavior toward me. Although nothing was concrete in the minds of people about where we stood, one thing was clear to them: Marcus was not one to tolerate injustice, especially when it concerned me. I
Kiara’s POVI rubbed my hands on my thighs as I made my way through the front porch. Tiny bouts of moisture had accumulated on the inside of my palms due to the nervousness as my heart refused to slow down its pace. With every step I took, it thumped harder against my chest, making me wonder if this was a good idea at all. I knew that the person on the other side was someone I knew well enough and cherished for long, however, the idea of seeing him as my date was making me nervous all of a sudden. This meeting was unlike any other, as now I felt a sense of expectation to fulfill. I had this self-imposed responsibility of impressing him, reinstating his belief in me that I was an ideal partner to him. I was still not sure if being with him was a good idea, but my heart seemed to have already made up its mind. In many ways, I knew what I wanted,
Once inside the dining room, an appreciative hum leaped out of me involuntarily. “It smells delicious in here.” Upon closer inspection, I widened my eyes in delight, “Lasagne?” Seeming to have accomplished his mission, he gave me a satisfied smile, “I was aware that it’s your favorite dish.” I remember sharing that bit of information to Natalie last week when I had dinner with the both of them, but back then, I hardly thought he was paying any attention to such details. A heartfelt smile tugged at my lips at the realization that he indeed put in the effort to know everything about me. He pulled the chair for me to get seated in before he opted for the one right across me. He paired the dish with some wine, and I thought food never tasted any better. “It’s delicious.” I said, relishing the taste of the tender chicken in my mouth. An amusing smile claimed his face, “I’m glad you like it.” “I never took you for someone who could cook.” I said, “I’d always assumed you grew up with
As soon as my back hit the soft mattress of his bed, he leaned away from me to peel his shirt off. As the taut muscles of his abdomen glistened under the light of the night sky, a knot formed in my lower abdomen. I gulped in anticipation, eager to explore him. A whirlwind of emotions erupted inside of me as I stared at him in the darkness. The only illumination in the room was that bounced off from the moon, striking straight at the man in front of me who was resembling divinity himself. His rough fingers found my hips, digging into my skin. Slowly, he pulled the skirt of my dress upwards until the hem of it reached my chest. My torso was now naked to his vision, flexing lightly under his hungry gaze. He ran his finger over the midline, halting only near my navel, encircling it. Bending downwards, he planted a soft kiss against it. An intense feeling knotted my abdomen, pulling it inward as his lips wandered. Before they could go any further, I buried my fingers in his hair, pulling
