Chapter Two

Just go ahead and do it.” She shook her head, “reject me.”

He let out a huff, lifting his hands and running it through his long dark hair. The Alpha was an undeniably handsome man, from his chiseled jaw to his dark hair and sharp eyes, a first glance was all a lady needed to be mesmerized. Even in their distress, Melissa could not help but notice his manly beauty.

“Reject you?” He chuckled, unamused.

She nodded, a pained look in her eyes.

He shook his head. “You are an Omega, you might go rogue if rejected by an Alpha.”

Alpha Mason kicked the dirt on the ground. Just a moment ago he was so happy, he was elated even. The one thing that was left to make his life complete, he had finally found it.

He had never felt so overwhelmed with happiness and relief. With her in his arms, it was almost as though the universe peeled away before them and his problems vanished like dust blown in the wind.

And now, fate was so quick to steal his joy away. How cruel.

“It does not matter, I cannot be your Luna after all. It would be scandalous and a shame to the pack, other packs will laugh at us, mock us and even target us.” She listed.

He cast his gaze to the ground, placing his hands on his hips. She was right.

“And to top that off, you are already getting engaged today… to Emily Henderson. And she is my best friend, and also my mistress. I have severed her father the Beta for so many years and they have been decent in their treatment towards me. They will be dragged in the mud if you call off the engagement because you found your Omega mate.”

An Omega mate, she said it like it was poison in her mouth. She could feel the taste of her own disgrace against her lips. The pack will never accept her. They will never welcome her, and nobody wants to be ruled by an Omega.

“This is the only way…” she told him. “Go on and do it as quickly as you can before they start looking for either of us. Reject me.”

Mason lifted his head to stare at her.

She looked torn, but she was fighting so hard to hold herself together. Her plump lower lip trembled just a little, as though she was trying to stop herself from crying.

He wished to cradle her, he wanted to. To just reach his arms out to her and wrap her in his embrace, his cute little mate.

She was soft and delicate like a beautiful flower and she smelled e-mail wonderful too. His wolf was fighting hard and mighty to not reach for her.

“Mate… mate.”

His wolf continued to howl within him. It was elated despite his own disdain. He could feel it clawing against his mind, pushing him, urging him to hold their mate, to make her his.

“Do you know the possible consequences of being rejected?” He asked her, taking a carful step in her direction. “They could me dangerous for you.”

She sniffled, nodding her head. “I already understand all of that. But it is of very little consequence to you, so it does not matter.”

Mason chuckled again, unamused.

Did she not understand? How could she think that? Think that it is of so little consequence to him to reject his life mate. The one thing he has searched for all his life. Not only will his wolf be torn apart for a long time, he would be weakened too, and to a very great extent at that. He might not go rogue, being that he is an Alpha with a strong bloodline but the pain would definitely be nothing short of unbearable for him and for her.

“I cannot reject you.” He shook his head, “I will not do it.”

Melissa listed her head from the ground, “you cannot marry me either, so do not put me through the torture. Our wolves will continue to be connected and fall out to each other, and you will need a Luna so you must proceed with this engagement ceremony. Either way it will be no good for me. This is my preference, please reject me.”

“I will not do it.” He pronounced almost immediately. His mind was made up and he was very sure, he stared at her with defiance in his eyes, that was his final word.

“Do you want me to do it for you then?” She raised a brow at him.

His pupil is dilated and he took a long stride towards her, pulling her closer by her waist. “You will not dare.” He warned her, his eyes flashing a bright amber shade.

She gasped a little, half frightened. That was his wolf coming to the surface.

He blinked his eyes for a brief moment and when he opened them they were back to their normal brown shade again. His firm grip around her waist loosened a little. “No one is rejecting anyone.”

The door behind them creaked open and they both jumped away from each other as Emily’s blue eyes found them both.

“Mason?” She frowned, staring between both of them as she stepped outside. “What are you doing here?”

They both stared at her in silence and their eyes wide.

“Melissa” she turned to her, “are you having an affair with my fiancé?!”

Melissa shook her head immediately, “no it is not at all what you imagine, Emily.”

Emily glared at her with anger and betrayal and before she could provide a proper answer, she threw a slap straight across her face.

A stinging sensation travelled down Melissa’s cheek. A faint ringing sound echoed through her ears and a small pool of tears formed within her eyelids.

“What are you doing?” Mason intervened at once, grabbing her hand before she could throw another slap at her.

Emily turned to him, her jaws clenched and her small nostrils flaring. “How dare she come anywhere near you? A lowly Omega, how could you allow her Mason?”

He exhaled tiredly, blinking his eyes shut for a moment. “I was the one holding her, yet it is her you choose to slap?”

Mason could feel it, the rage his wolf was going through within him. It was threatening to rear its head through his subconscious, to challenge the woman that dared hit his mate, what greater insult can any woman have done him?

But Mason fought back against his wolf. Melissa is an Omega, and Emily is the daughter of a Beta, and besides Melissa being his mate, Emily is still his fiancé, and perhaps she reserves the right to react in this way.

“Do not try to push the blame on yourself.” Emily shook her head, turning to Melissa with blue eyes shining like sirens. Melissa stood quietly in the corner, still clutching her cheek, her eyes cast to the ground.

Emily huffed, “ she is just a lowly Omega, perhaps I have been to kind to her to make her my best friend. That is why she dared to betray me by touching my fiancé..”

Mason shook his head, he felt torn between two worlds immediately. An internal struggle between him and his wolf. What shall he do? Tell Emily the truth? And what will she do? She will run to her father the Beta at once with tears in her eyes and the council will be called to hear it. They would probably force him to reject Melissa as his mate. They will insist upon it or he will not be crowned to take his father’s place.

Melissa lifted her glassy eyes slowly to stare up at him, she sniffled lightly and she shook her head discreetly.

She did not want him to tell her..

He blinked his eyes shut momentarily, the engagement must continue. And he would think about this somehow.

“Go back to your duties at once.” He ordered Melissa.

She nodded her head, bowing. “Yes Alpha.”

Mason turned to Emily, hoping she was at least happy. He lifted his fingers, tilting her chin up to get her to stare into his eyes. She smiled softly immediately, sinking into his touch. “Sorry to ruin your mood my love, the engagement will continue immediately.”
