Selene’s POV
“Fuck,” I whispered as I stooped down to pick up a shattered piece of plate off the floor. That was the second thing I broke today. Mrs. Rose will murder me.“What’s wrong with you, Selene?” my closest friend Alexandra questioned me. “You are so clumsy today.”I ignored her query and proceeded to the storage closet to retrieve a broom and a dustpan.“Selene?” Alexandra called my name.I glanced up at her as I started sweeping.“My mom isn’t feeling well today,” I whispered as I looked back at the mess I had caused.“She is still refusing to take her pills?” Alexandra questioned worriedly.I nodded, stooping down and swiping the broken pieces into a dustpan.“Did she tell you why?” Alexandra questioned.I rose back up and proceeded to the garbage can. I emptied the dustpan and stared at Alexandra.“She said that the pills made her numb,” I said.I grabbed the broom back up and put it back into the storage cupboard along with the dustpan.“Isn’t being numb better than being in pain?” I heard Alexandra inquire as I walked back.“Not,” I moaned, resting on the counter. “She said that she doesn’t know where she is after she takes the pills. She replied that she couldn’t feel her wolf.”Alexandra bit her bottom lip and wrinkled her eyebrows. She looked me up and down and took a long breath.“You need a night out,” she murmured, folding her arms over her chest.I shook my head quickly.“That’s the last thing I need, Alex,” I responded. “I can’t leave my mom. It’s awful enough that I have to leave her to go to work. I can’t leave her to go to a party.”I worked at the diner and the library. I took as many shifts as I could. I needed money. We were in debt, and I had to find a method to pay it or we would lose our house.“It’s not a party, Selene,” Alexandra remarked. “It’s just you and me hanging out. You need to relax a little.”I groaned and grabbed up a dishtowel. I started cleaning the glasses.“Besides, we need to hang out as much as we can before we turn 18,” Alexandra continued. “I’m sure that I won’t get to see you after you find your mate.”I snorted and looked up at her.“I don’t have time for a mate,” I remarked.Alexandra gasped significantly. “You don’t want a mate?!”I looked up at her and grimaced. Could she have been louder? Luckily, we were alone in the diner. It was approaching closing time.“Be quiet,” I whispered. “I want a mate, but I’m not sure that I want to find him right after I turn 18. I have to take care of my mom. I have bills to pay. What if my mate didn’t grasp that?”“A mate loves you unconditionally, Selene,” Alexandra remarked tenderly. “He would understand.”My father didn’t love my mom wholeheartedly. He left her. He abandoned me.“I can’t be sure of that, Alex,” I said as I started washing the countertops. “It’s better if I don’t find him immediately.”I kept my eyes down, but I could feel Alexandra’s scorching glare on me.“Have you ever even liked someone?” she questioned me. “I’ve known you my entire life, and I’ve never seen you interested in a boy.”I felt heat rush to my cheeks. The only boy I’ve ever liked was my rescuer.Being a fatherless pup wasn’t a wonderful thing. I was bullied in school a lot. Kids would laugh at me, call me a bastard, yank my hair, and occasionally even punch me.One day, I was leaving school when one of my classmates tripped me. He tugged my hair and proceeded to call me names. The other kids were laughing and pointing at me. I felt ashamed because I started weeping. I’ve always tried so hard not to weep. I didn’t want to give them the pleasure of watching me cry. But something about that day was simply so overpowering that I couldn’t stop my emotions. Alexandra was nowhere in sight, but someone else arrived to help me.He pushed the bullies aside, kneeled next to me, and cleaned my face. He promised me that I was secure and that they wouldn’t hurt me again. He mentioned some other things as well, but I didn’t hear him. I couldn’t look away from his lovely blue eyes. I became lost in them. He had somewhat curled black hair, and he was extremely tall.He went after he saved me, and I never saw him again. I didn’t even know his name. But every time someone mentioned having a crush, he sprang to mind.“Maybe when I was a kid,” I shrugged.“Who?” Alexandra gasped.I stopped scrubbing the countertops and glanced up at her.“I don’t remember,” I answered. “He was just a boy.”Well, it wasn’t the truth. He wasn’t simply a boy. He was my salvation.“I can’t believe that you never told me about him,” Alexandra replied.“It wasn’t that serious, Alex,” I muttered, laying the dishtowel down. “I was 12.”“I don’t care,” Alexandra replied. “I’m your best friend. I should have known about it.”I wanted to emphasize that it was just a dumb infatuation on a lad, but my phone started ringing. I slipped it out of my pocket and glanced at the caller ID. It was my mom.“Is everything okay, mom?” I asked her as soon as I answered the call.“Flower?” she called me by my nickname. Her voice was soft and raspy. She sounded like she was short of breath. Did she try to get up on her own again?“Yes, mom?” I murmured as I grasped the edge of the counter.“I love you, my baby,” she replied gently. “Always remember that.”My heart stopped beating. Why was she telling me that?“I love you too, Mom,” I murmured, glancing at Alexandra. “What’s wrong, mom?”“I’m leaving, Flower,” my mom murmured gently. “I love you.”I froze. I was utterly frozen. I couldn’t move. I wanted to rush home, but I couldn’t move. I didn’t feel my legs. I didn’t feel my body.No.Please, Goddess, no.Don’t take my mom away from me! Not yet!Gabriel’s POVI was clutching Mira’s hand in a firm grasp.I needed her support. I would see my daughter for the first time in 15 years. I would witness my real mate’s body being burnt. I would need to talk to my daughter and ask her to come with me.To say that I was nervous would be an understatement. I was freaking out.“Gabriel?” I heard my name being called.I looked around and spotted my old best friend.“Jasper,” I muttered his name.He groaned and approached me and Mira. He continued strolling toward the funeral place along with us.“It’s Alpha Jasper to you, but I will let it go this time,” he added, peering at me from the corner of his eye.He was still upset with me. He never used to demand I call him Alpha.“This is my mate, Mira,” I remarked, glancing at her and offering her a little grin.“It’s nice to meet you, Alpha Jasper,” Mira responded pleasantly.Jasper looked at her and gave her a slight nod. He stared back at me and narrowed his eyes.“Why are you here?” he inqu
Selene’s POV“What is my father doing here?” I asked Alpha Jasper. There was a stinging aching in my chest that was slowly being replaced by rage. I wanted that man gone. I didn’t want him here. He made his choice when he left my mom and me 15 years ago. I didn’t want him here. I didn’t need him.“You recognized him?” Alpha Jasper inquired, astonished.Of course, I did.“I have his eyes,” I muttered, wiping the tears from my face. “And my mom always showed me pictures of him. She wanted me to remember him.”She loved him so much. She loved him even after everything he did to her. He was her fated partner, who lied to her. He vowed to mark her, but he never did. He harmed her so severely, and I would never forgive him for it.I stared back at the flames.“I will miss you, Mom,” I muttered gently. “I hope that you are not in pain anymore.”My voice cracked and I stopped to take a big breath.“I love you,” I continued gently. “Please watch over me.”I still couldn't realize that my mom w
Selene’s POV“I am not going,” I muttered as I started walking away from my father.I had no reason to be there anymore. My mom’s body was gone. I wasn’t going with my father and I didn’t want to talk to him again. There was no need for me to linger at the burial site any longer. I was going to go home, sleep on my mom’s bed, and scream my eyes out.I wasn’t going with my father anyplace. There was no friggin way that I was abandoning my rucksack. There was no friggin way that I was going anywhere with that dude.“Selene!” he yelled after me.I didn’t react. I didn’t even turn around. The dude left me. He deserted my mom. I didn’t need him or his sympathy money.“Selene!” he called me again, but this time I heard him following behind me.I started walking faster.“Selene, stop!” my father shouted.I ignored him.My heart was thumping a mile a minute. I wasn’t leaving. I wasn’t leaving my pack. I wasn’t leaving my house. My mom’s stuff was there. I wasn’t going to leave the spot that r
“How are you?”Alex asked. I was lying on her twin-sized bed next to her. I should have gone home, I wanted to go home, but I could not bear the empty house. I thought I would find comfort there but when I walked into her room…so I ran over here, I ran over to my best friend. “I don't know. I feel numb.” I whispered. I had thought I would cry for hours over my mum but the tears had dried up and no matter how hard I wanted them to fall they stayed dried up. “I know you're hurting over your mom. I could never imagine what it feels like to lose your mother. But that's not what I'm talking about.” She turned over on the bed and faced me.“What are you talking about then?” I asked, genuinely confused.Alex cleared her throat and looked at me uneasily. “How do you feel now? especially after meeting your father.” She asked and watched me curiously. My anger returned swiftly and bitterness enveloped me like a thin shroud.“How could she do that?” I asked, my voice filled with bitterness.“How
I rolled down my window to get a better view of the passing vegetation. It was the most beautiful woodland I had ever seen in my entire life. My eyes flew wide open, I could hardly believe a place like this existed. Several rabbits hopped around fallen trees on the lush green forest floor. Huge trees grew so tall that it seemed they were reaching for the clouds. “It's beautiful isn't it?” My father asked. A large smile was playing on his stupid face. I could see his stupid eyes staring at me from the rearview mirror. I brought out my headphones and immersed myself in a world of heavy metal. My father was saying something but I could not hear a word of what he said. The smell of the woodland filled my soul with a peculiar energy, one I had never felt before. I longed to run through the trees, play on the grass, and hop along with the rabbits. 'Eat the rabbits.’ a voice said. I looked up at my Father but he had his eyes on the road and didn't seem to have said a word.I pulled the
The morning breeze had been a thing of comfort to me, its cool message of guidance and love had been mind-soothing. That man, Gabriel had returned and once again my peace was gone.“Hi.” The girl said. I was guessing this was his daughter, she had his hair and I could see a bit of him in her. Just a bit.“Hi,” I responded. She looked flushed and quickly turned her eyes away in a shy manner. I smiled to myself knowingly. It was always the same with all of them the first time they saw me.She looked up at me once again, this time her icy blue eyes bore into mine, searching, reaching into my very soul. Blood flow to my face as goosebumps erupted all over my flesh. I could not stand it any longer and quickly averted my gaze. Who was this witch?“Selene.” Gabriel’s voice echoed through the house. I was grateful to him for the intrusion as she quickly turned her gaze to him. She stared at him coldly, in the same way she had looked at my mother.“What do you want?” she growled at him. Gabri
Selene's povMy senses returned with a bang. What the hell was I doing here? My lips were interlocked in a passionate embrace with the guy who was supposed to be my new family. I withdrew my lips from him, and to my uttermost disgust, I felt myself hesitate. “Stop,” I muttered. He withdrew away away hesitantly too and stared at me with those golden eyes. I turned away as the blood flew up to my face and I blushed madly. This guy was going to think I'm some naive countryside girl.“My goodness.” He exclaimed, “I'm so sorry.” He looked as if he was drowning in his shame. Both of us were entitled to this shame. Had he no manners? To force himself on me was unacceptable. “But he didn't force himself on you. You allowed him.” A cool voice within me. The voice had been so loud I turned around to see if there were any other people inside the room.“It's ok,” I muttered while wriggling my fingers together. What would Alex think of Magnus? Yes, he was hot and her type but what would she th
Selene's pov “Hello, My flower.” The all too familiar voice said. I sat up from my bed and turned to look at the face I thought I had lost forever.“Mom?” I asked, fearing that it was not her, fearing I was imagining it all.“Yes dear, it's me. Get up, you'll be late for work.” She said and opened the door to my room. She walked inside and stood next to me. My mother was walking!! I stared at her with open eyes. Wait I was back in my room, I was back home. Confusion began to set in quickly. Why was I back here? And how was she whole and hearty? My mother had been I'll…my mother was…“Are you alright, flower?” she asked. She bent down and felt my forehead. “You don't have a fever.” “Mom,” I muttered in awe. She continued her work around me. “ Yes, darling?” She replied.I could feel something tugging at the back of my mind. I could feel someone trying to reach me. “Get up Seli, before your breakfast grows cold.” I lay on the bed and continued gaping at her.“Get up young lady.” My m
Selene's povTake off your clothes." He said, to my outermost Surprise. I turned around sharply to him, "What?" I asked."Take off the clothes, we need to burn them. The guards have our scents." He explained. He was already in his briefs."Oh," I exclaimed. It made more sense now he explained himself. My hand went to the black shirt, and I was about to take it off when I noticed his eyes on my body. I instantly blushed and turned my face away. His constant staring made me super uncomfortable."Do you mind?" I asked shyly. He looked at me dumbfounded, like he just discovered I existed."What?" He asked, confused."I’m taking the clothes off." I explained."Ohhh." He said and turned away. "I'll be downstairs when you're done.” He said, closing the door behind him as he walked away. The room was suddenly quiet, but I was grateful for it. I took the shirt off gingerly; my ribs hurt me like hell. I walked to the mirror and stood in front of the mirror; I traced my hand through my skin, tr
Gabriel's povI stared in awe as the army of wolves of every single pack in Western America rushed down the hills of Moonstone in all of their terrifying power. The moon was not out, and all I could witness was them in their normal human states, but even that brought joy to my eyes. The monsters looked at one another in confusion. The army that Saltos had called forth was one terrifying number, but they were scattered across the battlefield without accurate coordination."Form your lines!" Saltos's voice boomed angrily. He had lost all of his former coordination as desperation began." Form your lines, you bloody idiots."But it was already too late for that. Mira got to her feet and slit the throat of the login that was next to her. The other wolves of our pack saw what she did, and one by one, they picked up their swords and began to press the enemy."Fight back, you idiots!" their leader cried. "stand and fight!" a large goblin turned on his heels and began to run."No, no, no, no,"
Ansari's povI looked up at the figure that hovered over the town In wonder. Was that the child that I had condemned to death out of fear of who she was?Of who she represented?"Mom!!" Magnus cried as he sighted his mother."Magnus!!" Mira yelled, and I turned just in time to see mother and child run to each other. They locked in a firm embrace as the formally strung and formidable Mira sank to her knees in tears."I thought we had lost you." She cried. "I'm sorry mom." "Why didn't you call? It's been two weeks. We thought you were dead.""I can explain everything.” He said with a smile. My daughter's face radiated with joy.I looked around for Gabriel, but he was nowhere to be seen.My mind raced to conclusions as I feared the worst. Now was not the time for news like this. If Gabriel were dead, it would shatter Mira and the little strength she had left."Where's Gabriel?" I heard her ask. I turned around to see the look on Magnus's face as he delivered the news I expected to hear
Ansari's povYou alright?" I paid no heed to the man as I ran down the corridor.A hand grabbed mine, and I was flung into someone's chest."Shhhh." The baritone voice said. I knew that voice. I looked up to see Conner looking down at me. "Let me go." I whispered."No." He whispered back. Conner was the only person who knew what I had become, the only one who saw the true me. I loved him so much and still did, but he could never."Please let me go." I cried."I have loved you, and this won't ever change things. Never." He pulled his collar away from his neck and looked down at me, "if you being this way would keep you away from me then… make me one too.""You don't know what you're talking about." I said."I do it because I love you."…. Slashed and hacked and cut through every single one of them as if they were made of paper. Blood flew up in the air along with their marked organs and veins. In the end, I stood there in the middle of the room, with pieces Of their bodies lying all
Gabriel's povMy legs hurt, and the distant feeling of vomit sitting at the back of my throat like some final boss was not helping me on this trek. It has been a good two days since we arrived in Iceland, and the entire company was utterly exhausted. I could not vouch for anyone, but I could bet that I was the most exhausted one out of the three of us. From time to time, I remember when there were four of us. An extra one that had been my responsibility to care for, one I had allowed to be corrupted and destroyed."It's beautiful here," Selene remarked. I looked around at the scenery here. I left Iceland long ago, but even in my memories, it had been a place of extraordinary beauty. It was a good thing that it had not changed. "Yes, it truly is," I replied. It was hard not to fall asleep while driving, but Magnus was terrible. Selene was entirely out of the question. Completely."So this is Akur…""Akureyri." I helped. She rolled her eyes and nodded."Roll off the tip of your tongu
Selene's pov."What news?" I asked."Saltos opened a portal to our side.""To moonstone?" I asked, fear spear diving through every cell I had in me. Magnus shook his head. "No, but he took the guardians of the most powerful weapon known to our kind. It was one he had used when he was still of this world, before he was banished. It was taken away from moonstone immediately he was released but he found it and massacred and entire pack just to get it. He has it all now, all that remains is to lay waste to everything we hold dear. My mother, my grandmother, my pack and yours."His words were like a knife to my heart, and I was suddenly lightheaded. I collapsed, but he caught me deftly and pulled me back to my feet. "No." I whispered in disbelief."It is the truth child." My father said sadly."You are the only hope we have of beating him," Olivia said. Her words hurt me more than every other person's."Of beating salts?" I asked, "You saw what happened the last time? I couldn't even t
Selene's pov.It has not always been easy; I have had many jobs and menial work to get what the other kids could afford. My mother's health did not make things much better, and I had to do the best for both of us, but it never bothered me one bit. But I never complained, I never felt like I was missing out, and all I ever did was love those around me.So why me? Why was the world so ready to destroy me?To hate me.“It's empty." I said. “It's all empty.""This doesn't make sense," Darius muttered.“Where's the prophecy?" I asked Darius. He was busy staring at a blank page of the paper. Panic was beginning to set in my mind, and I could not deal with him panicking.I grabbed him by the shoulders and shook him. “Darius!! Why are they empty?"He turned to me with confused eyes. "I don't- I don't know." He scratched his head and returned to study the blank pages. What the hell did he mean by that? He picked the book; he had to know."Did you maybe pick the wrong book?" I asked desperat
Darius's pov.I turned off my phone and looked up at the road before me. So that was the girl? That was Selene.I had never had a girlfriend before; I was always too shy to approach anyone, but this girl, this chick, was something else. Where do you even get eyes like that from?A sigh left my lips, fucking hell, I was tired. I looked at the town around me. It had not changed that much since I left. The same people's houses and I was sure they all still had the same ideology. They tried to act the same way in situations that needed to be solved with modern ideologies.A group of kids were playing soccer on a field, and one of them looked up and saw me.He smiled and waved at me. I smiled and waved back.At least they were not so shy anymore; that was good."Hey!!" A feminine voice called. I turned around to see a slim figure running towards me. It was Selene. My heart skipped a beat within me. She was a different specimen. My God!"Hey." She panted and rested her palms on her knees
Selene's povGoddess, have mercy!" my father cried in fear as he held on for dear life"Selene, stop this madness!" Magnus said frantically as he held me while staring at the wall of thunder and lightning before us.Now, he chooses to talk. I was in no mood to speak, not anymore."We'll tell you what's in the fucking boot just stop this." My father yelled as the car came a foot closer to the wall of charged electricity. Millions of nerve endings and necrotic cells interconnect the brain. A single thought you make is passed on like bolts of electricity through the brain as it processes it in under a second. That was how long I had to call off the lightning storm before us—less than a freaking second."Fucking hell, your child is crazy," Olivia screamed. Everyone breathed relief, and Olivia stepped out of the vehicle and doubled down on her knees as she took heavy breaths."Are you mad? Do you want to kill us?" My father screamed at me. I wasn't trying to kill them. I knew they would t
