"Man dies of cold, not of darkness."
-Miguel de Unamono-
***
All life has left the place once filled with laughters and mending tears. She found no reason to stay, therefore she had to leave. Yet she had no idea the madness that followed from the trail she left behind.
Dark, cold and Smokey. Three words which perfectly described the Russet Manor in the middle of Washington winter. Thick scent of cigar in the air mixed with the burning scent of the fireplace filled the entire place.
Soft wailing of the dogs was faintly heard from the backyard where they were kept on the leash under skillful hands of their trainer. It was snowing outside and the weather was quite terrible, yet it did not stop them from doing their jobs if they still wished to keep it.
Every guards under Dimitri's command that night had gathered in the front porch of the house in rows as they repeated the daily mantra assigned by their leader.
Do not let any outsider in
Do not let her out of the houseDo not let your guard downThose words were repeated over and over again every day like a broken cassette. He had insisted it was important for them to know their duty. After a while, they were dismissed to their posts where they would remain on look all night to ensure... no one even knew exactly what they were doing besides keeping the house safe.
In the meantime, Dimitri was going inside to check up on her. The sounds of his footsteps echoed throughout the wooden hallway at a twelve million dollars Seattle mansion belonging to the late Wilhelm Russet.
After the main house was caught in fire a few years ago, it had been re built and modernized while maintaining the core essence of the building. The property was located on one of the most exclusive neighborhood in the city.
The house itself was placed further away from the rest, built with tall, modern looking electric fences around the area to ensure no one would be able to trespass. From a stranger's perspective the place always appeared mysterious and closed off.
Even the fellow neighbors never had any idea what the inside of the place was like. Because there were barely any windows. The only thing they knew about the place was the owner's name. Even then they had no idea who he was or what his business was and truthfully, they could not care either.
Unlike the other guards, Dimitri knew the place better than any of them, for he was a full time bodyguard which had been working at the place for years, after being recruited for the first time by the previous owner of the mansion, the late Wilhelm Russet himself, he had been giving his best at fulfilling his duty toward the family even after the man himself has passed away.
His night routine usually started with him inspecting every corner of the rooms, slowly making his way to the second floor where her bedroom was located.
The second floor was always the most silent as most activities occurred on the ground floor, but at night, everything was so empty, most of the staff had gone home, it was almost as if every traces of life was gone from the house.
At the end of his routine, he made his way to the end of the hallway, the room was slightly isolated from the rest, it also had triple locks on it, not only did you have to know the code of the room, you would need to have your fingerprint and retina matched to get inside.
In the house, only three people had the access. Being one of the three, he could just enter it without permission, but his conscience would never allow him to. Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door.
"Miss, are you asleep?" when there was no response, he entered the code and opened the door to check. His heart was already thumping loudly in his chest as he did so. The room was dark and all of the lights were turned off.
At the first glance nothing was wrong. He was about to close the door when he turned his head swiftly at the room once more. His pupil dilated as he opened the door at full length.
He quickly turned to light the switch and then he realized that the room was completely empty. She was nowhere to be found.
"Oh, shit." He ran outside and informed the other guards to search around the house for her. It was complete chaos, they searched everywhere from the garden until the rooftop and found absolutely nothing.
Dimitri went to the security room and pushed the guy who was observing the CCTV, he carefully took a look at each and every one of them, which concluded the entire household, but he could not find her anywhere.
She was gone.
"Check the recording from five hours ago until now." he ordered. The confused man immediately did as told ,he examines every details in hope of finding any movements or signs of her of her, but then he realized that the timing of record was cut in the middle, there was a one hour jump from ten to eleven P.M when the cameras were not recording during the hour.
"How could this happen?" he asked the security guy with a threatening gaze, holding himself back from slamming him to the wall and breaking his skull.
"I do not know, I did not notice." the poor guy was telling the truth. Skipping the part where he had eaten a donut delivered to his room right before the incident which caused him to be sleepy and ended up falling asleep, so did his friend who shared it with him.
"That girl!" Dimitri cursed as he kicked the computer chair until it flew out of the room. He placed both of his arms on his waist as his mind tried to think of the places she might have gone to, but not many came into his mind.
Even though he had been her personal guard for many years, he could never predict that girl's move, she was as cunning as a fox and as sharp as a knife.
Instead of wasting his time in the room like an idiot, he went back to her room in search of any possible clue, going through every corner of her closet, to her drawers and even under the bed, perhaps she had left clues to her where about, but after half an hour of searching, he found absolutely nothing.
Then he remembered something, he went to check underneath her pillow and found a piece of letter, sealed in orange colored clay, her favorite shade. He opened it up and found a hand written letter from her.
"Dear Dimitri,
If you are reading this now, I would have left the house. I am sorry I did not tell you about this, because I know if I did you would report it to him. You have been a great help for me throughout these years but I think it is time that I live life on my own terms. I don't want to live under his wings anymore. I'm done.
I know Vincent will be upset when he finds out about this, but you don't have to worry much, it is not your fault. It's my own decision. Just show him this letter if he ever threatens to kick you out of the household.
No need to search for me. Don't even bother to find out about my where about. Because you won't be able to find me this time.
Take care of yourself, and tell Vincent I hate him.
Love,
Lana."
He folded the letter and placed it back on the envelope. He could not believe that woman just left like that. He had made sure that every gates of the house was locked and properly guarded, it was nearly impossible for her to escape.
"What are you planning this time?" he whispered to the empty room as he stared at the portrait of her hung neatly in the middle of the room. The golden framed portrait held a picture of her with a cunning, sly smile on her face. The look which always got him every single time.
"How am I going to tell Vincent about this?"
"Come not within the measure of my wrath." -William Shakespear- *** "You idiots, how could you let this happen!?" his rage was untamed when he finished reading the letter. He threw the piece of paper to the fireplace where it was devoured within seconds. Each guards on shift that night was summoned to his office. They were shivering as cold air ran through their bare neck. They have been ordered to strip their clothes off and left with nothing but their underwear as they stood in the room further away from the source of heat. The only person in the room beside them was one of the maid who stayed quietly on the back of the room, trying to not get involved in her master's wrath. None of them dared to reply, each of them were staring at
"Being a hero doesn't mean you're invincible, it just means that you're brave enough to stand up and do what's needed." -Rick Riodan- *** Warm puff of breath gathered in the air as he exhaled his first breath in Moscow. The first thing he saw as soon as he left the airport was the vast amount of snow gathered on the side of the road. People around him were mostly wearing fur coats or a thick layer of winter coat. He wondered why he thought visiting the place in winter was a great idea. Yet there he was, dragging his luggage to find the nearest taxi. Damian had a high expectation for the next week. He did not know what made him decide to visit the city after all these years, he had never been a fan of the colder weather and always preferred to stay in the warm. Perhaps it was due to his change of perspective toward the world, after hitting his 30's, he had tried to be more open toward the poss

He had to admit it got his heartbeat pacened up a bit when he saw her badass fighting style. There was a strange chemical reaction in his stomach, one he did not quite comprehend just yet."What a bunch of animals!" she cursed as she hit his neck. Unlike Damian who tried to avoid the vital spots, she did not even hesitate or flinch when she smashed their face to the ground. The woman was pissed, her eyes w
"Good manners do more for a man than good looks." -E.W. Howe- *** Damian was seated in a study chair in the living room writing down some notes of his activities for the next day. Everything was planned. We would spend his entire day exploring the Red Square, just to see if it was really as fascinating as people claimed it to be, everything was listed in a rough outline but he had a pretty good picture of what his day would be. After that, he went to the kitchen to make some dinner. The menu for the day was steamed vegetables with boiled chicken with a little bit of chili sauce. Not the most flavorful dish, but most importantly, it was healthy. He had been paying a lot of attention to his health since he realized he was not very young anymore, at least he thought he was not.

Scarlett was putting some icing on the rest of cupcakes in the kitchen when her eldest daughter decided to sneaked her way in, making an attempt to steal another cupcake from the counter. Of course, Scarlett could tell without looking since she had developed sharper senses since giving birth. When she turned her body around to place the tray on the counter, the little girl looked up at her mother with a pout on her face, her big hazel eyes gleamed in anger when her tiny arms retreated in defeat. In her toddler mind, she thought her mother was being unfair, why did her brother get to have it when she could not? Yes, Scarlett had given her one earlier, but one was not enough. The cupcake was so tiny she was able to finish it in four

It would be impossible to fall in love with someone that you really saw." -Fran Lebowitz- *** "Good morning, are you ready to go out?" Damian woke up to the knocking sound from his door, while he had set his alarm to eight, at exactly 7A.M Lana was already disturbing him with her early chirp. He was still dressed in his black t-shirt and shorts when she was already all dressed up in a complete winter outerwear. It was typical in Russia during winter to wear layers upon layers of outfit to ensure maximum warmth during the extreme cold, so he could only imagine how long it took for her to get dressed, which meant she had woken up so early in the morning. He had not e
"Caring, about people, about things, about life is an act of maturity." -Tracy McMillan- *** That morning Damian woke up with a throbbing head, his body was shaking, freezing, he was feeling unwell for some reason without any idea why. The night before he was completely fine, though he was having more fatigue than usual, but he did not feel any symptoms of illness. Yes, he did remove his winter hat yesterday a few times because they were scratching his head, but he never thought the cold he felt for only a few minutes could make such an impact on his body. As he slowly tried to open his eyes, he took a seat on the edge of his bed and felt his body burning up, he touched his forehead and found his temperature rising. His nose was slightly clogged and his throat was dry.
"Never love for me, only obsession."-Carrie Fisher-***"Oh, god, yes..." The moaning escaped her lips as he rode her like a cowboy. The dimly lighted room casted shadow upon part of their sweaty bodies as the raven haired woman clenched her fist on the sheet like her life depended on it. He was not holding himself back either, he had both of his hands on her breast as a support. Both were in tremendous pleasure when there was suddenly a knock on the door."Fuck, I have told them not to disturb me." He groaned as he pulled himself out from her."Who dared to disturb me?" He shouted. From the other side of the room, Dimitri was standing with his phone. He knew exactly what his boss was doing inside. Vincent had hired another high class prostitute to please him like he always did every single week. This time he had a low class model as his companion and they had been fuckin

After the proposal was over, the two of them quickly set up their dreams together with the resources they had in hand at the moment. They had bought a comfortable penthouse in New York near their newly established company office. Lana remained true to her words and used the money she inherited to invest in the company with Damian as the CEO and her being the board member director. She would be watching everything while advising Damian in every move he made. Basically it belonged to both of them by title, but Lana was the one controlling everything.Yes, she thought in the tech industry it would be better and much comfortable for her to use Damian as the front face of the company while she became the mastermind. The woman was definitely not an ordinary woman since she had this strong presence of mystique on her. Her eyes were pitch black, almost as if they were tattooed and she had a futuristic, almost robotic impression. Lana was not sure what kind of business she had with her. However, she could already tell the woman was not welcomed into her life. The woman did come alone which was sort of a relief because she was not in the mood to fight anyone. There was no threat and no signs of attack coming from her. Still, Lana was not going to let her guard down, experience had taught her to never do so in front of strangers.“Who are you and how do you know my name?” She questioned,
"Love the giver more than the gift."-Brigham Young-***“Yes, of course I’ll marry you.” Lana chuckled as she accepted his proposal. Her heart was beating like crazy. She had never felt such strong joy in her life before. Perhaps it was because her life was mostly filled with crazy events concerning her family background, but for the first time in her life she felt so giddy and happy like a little girl. Damian too was relieved and he could not stop smiling as he gently inserted the ring on her ring finger. As he had expected, the ring fits her perfectly. She had shown him her ring collection before and he had secretly measured them. Could not help it, he had planned on marrying her since they returned back from Vincent’s old manor. Almost losing her was what made him realize he could not bear the thought of losing her. He thought the only way to secure her for himself forever was by making sure she became

Beside that, She thought it was adorable so she kept it on."Make sure you keep on holding my hands, I want people to see that you are mine." He knew both of them were not teenagers and they had been through a lot together but there was a part of him that was still afraid if Lana took his gifts the wrong way and ended up feeling even more upset than before.Usually he would come and visit her everyday ever since Dimitri was murdered however he had not visited her in the past two days since he received all the items he needed to give her because of his own personal fear. Truly, Damian felt like he was acting like his old self who was too unbothered to approach a woman. He knew he could not continue acting that way because Lana might get the wrong perception of him, although the two of them had been commun

She had also been taking a break from work and spent most of her time sleeping as she tried to forget what had been happening and the day finally came when she could cope with reality and felt slightly better. She felt like she was starting to recover from the trauma. It had been exactly a week since it happened and although it might be a brief amount of time, for her it had been the longest week.
