CHAPTER 4 Sky and Steve are Friends

Pregnant?

‘Pregnant’, this word jolted Steve to the core. This is the most painful thing of his past that he can’t ever forget, even if he will try till ages.

But the pregnancy of Sky is an unbelievable matter.

Steve gets shocked and dumbfounded

‘Is she married? But she is not looking like married? Is she has a boyfriend?’ Steve thought and become uneasy.

He himself doesn’t know why is he feeling uncomfortable with his thoughts.

It also shocked Rita. “Oh my god, Sky cannot handle herself, how poor child will understand about pregnancy.

“Right, Mr. Edwards please search for her family who will take care of her and her child. She is not capable to handle pregnancy.

Steve didn’t answer, just nod his head, moved to his study, and dialed police officer Jack Miller's number.

“Hello Mr. Edwards, how may I help you?” Officer Jack said.

“Officer, I called to inform you about Sky, she is three months pregnant. Please search for her family as soon as possible.” Steve said.

Additional news about Sky also shocked officer Jack.

A mentally challenged girl is three months pregnant, this is the reason for a shock for anybody. 

Who could be the heinous swindler who made a mentally incapable girl pregnant?

“That’s shocking,” Officer Jack said.

“Could it be that she is married?” Steve asked about the possibilities.

“Perhaps or perhaps not, anything could be possible,” Officer Jack said.

“Like what?”

“Maybe she is married or divorced. Or maybe she is unmarried and somebody cheated on her that’s why she is pregnant.” Officer Jack said.

“You mean her boyfriend cheated on her?”

“Yes, and it’s quite possible that person is only after her with his goons. There are several conceivable chances, I have to find out.”

“Then find out quickly. There is nothing which Steve Edwards wants to find in this city and couldn’t able to do.”

After warning to police officer Steve hang up the call.

Few days passed. Sky was in Edwards mansion and become used to the new life. Including Steve, all staff members accepted her as a family member.

She always used to be carefree, giggle every time, and get along with everybody except men.

One morning Steve was coming down from the stairs when he heard Sky’s cry with boo, boo ranting. He hurried his pace to the living hall.

“Aunty Rita, aunty Rita” Steve yell.

He temper shoot seeing a male staff inside the mansion. Few days before on his instruction Rita appointed all the male staff’s duty outside of the mansion for the Sky’s sake. And their entry restricted to the back door.

Rita rushed to the living hall, dumping her work after listening to her yell for her name.

She became tense seeing Sky is crying, hiding her face behind the couch’s pillow and ranting ‘boo, boo’ and Steve was standing with an indignant expression on his face.

Rita didn’t answer Steve and moved to console Sky.

Rita also noticed a male staff person rushing out of the mansion and got the reason for Steve’s indignation and Sky’s sudden fear.

“Sky, shh, don’t cry see Anne Reet is here with you,” Rita said.

She was trying to coax her in lisp language.

Since Sky started talking to them, they noticed she lisped and called Anne Reet to aunty Rita.

Steve frown listening to their conversation. He many times used to think she needs speech therapy. She pronounced mostly words wrong but settles on what she likes to say.

For the past four days, police are trying to search for information about her but didn’t get a single clue, and she is still in Edwards' mansion.

Officer Jack asked Steve if he wants they can do arrangements for her in a good mental asylum but he denied. Steve thought perhaps goons have killed her husband or family and now they are after her life and she is not in any danger in Edwards mansion.

Even if he doesn’t have such thoughts, still he doesn’t want her to go far, leaving him.

Don’t know why I have a feeling like I don’t have the courage to send her far from me. Perhaps, because for the past four days, since the day she invades my life I have started getting a peaceful sleep. He daily used to go to the bed after seeing her face, it gives him solace.

Steve zoomed out of his thoughts, listening to her voice.

Sky was still sobbing in Rita’s arms and mumbling, “Anne Reet boo, boo,” while pointing towards the direction where the male servant was standing sometimes before and cause of her panic attack.

“Nobody is there Sky, my baby, see nobody is there,” Rita said and point towards the direction.

She peeked a little behind Rita’s shoulder and found nobody. Then she has calmed down and relaxed.

She got a leisurely look in her eyes, but the next moment her gaze fell on Steve a little uneasiness again captured her beautiful eyes, but she didn’t cry or scream like before.

Sky has changed a bit. She does not scream like the first day after seeing Steve but still scares from him and becomes uneasy.

Whenever she sees him, she tried to hide her face in her palms in fear and hopes that when she will open her eye, it will vanish him in front of her gaze. Fortunately, it always works because every time when she hides her face in her palm Steve moved out of her gaze. He likes to see her relaxed eyes by hiding somewhere.

Today when her eyes again filled with fear, she would repeat the same thing and Steve moved out from there.

‘I become frustrate. Don’t know why it irks me when she doesn’t talk to me when her smile vanishes as soon as her gaze falls on me when she smiles and giggles with aunty Rita and other female staff but not with me.’

‘To be the truth, I don’t like to watch her from afar. I want to get close to her anyhow.’

‘Today I will finish this hide and seek game and make her my friend.’ With the determined thoughts he went out of the mansion to execute his plan, which he made to make her friend.

Sky was sitting on the hall couch with her soft toy in hand getting bore. This is the same toy that Rita gave her for taking her photo for the police.

She was yawning lazily when a big pink toy ball rolled on the floor in front of her from one direction to another, making her wake up with wide twinkling eyes.

She stood up and look towards the direction where the pink ball rolled down. Her lips curled in a cute pout, seeing nothing.

The next moment ball again rolled in front of her from one direction to another. She ran towards the direction ball has rolled down, but stopped seeing the ball in Steve’s hand.

She scared again and hide her face in hand, hoping he will disappear again as always. A minute later she peeked behind her hands first, but Steve wasn’t vanished like always.

She again hid her face and after a few minutes peeked again behind the palms, Steve was still there. She again hides her face seeing Steve is not vanishing today.

Sky was scared, but the ball was attracting her. She peeked again with hope and saw Steve forward his hand, which was holding the ball.

Ahh, this ball is attracting her. She forwards two steps to take the ball but Steve cheated on her and withdraws his hand a few inches back.

Sky forward two more steps, and Steve again withdraws his hand a few more inches back.

He repeats the same thing one more time and now Sky was in face of Steve. She forwards her hand to take the ball but Steve again cheats on the poor girl and kept it a little high.

“Do you want the ball?” Steve asked tenderly.

Sky didn’t answer, only bobbled her head up and down

“Then first tell me your name first,” Steve said.

He hoped that perhaps in the ball's greed she will at least tell him her actual name.

“Sky.”
