Chapter 2 Night Out

"Haha!" He Xiaoyu laughed on the phone, "Not enough. I don't like flattery. You need to take some actions, otherwise you are insincere."

"What actions? Just speak out! I'll take them all."

"Well, I can barely accept that you marry me. I won't reject you."

"I'll reject you! Can you say something serious?"

He Xiaoyu giggled, and said sweetly after a while, "It's Sunday tomorrow. I was going to fly back to have a rest. But now I have to return on Saturday because of you. You must compensate me and serve me a big meal!"

"Hot pot!"

"No, I want to have seafood!"

"No problem. I'll treat you to seafood with my wife this Sunday."

"With your wife?"

"Of course. She holds the purse strings at home. I need her to pay the bill."

"You coward! I'll hang up now, bye-bye!"

He Xiaoyu hung up the phone directly without waiting for Li Mu to say anything.

"Crazy girl!" Li Mu muttered. Then he called a taxi and hurried home.

It was nearly midnight when there were very few cars on the street. The taxi drove rapidly and reached the destination in less than half an hour.

After paying the fare, Li Mu walked into the residential quarter with his suitcase in hand. It was silent at midnight with only the street lamps shedding soft light, revealing an atmosphere of tranquility and warmth.

Stepping into the elevator, Li Mu took out the key and smirked smugly.

His smile brighter as he turned the key slowly in the lock.

Click! The door was opened gently.

He pulled the door slowly. It was all dark in the house. The smell of home came to his nose. Li Mu was intoxicated in it and took a deep breath, creeping into the room.

There was no one in the living room. Li Mu walked gently to the door of the bedroom, looking inside through the open door.

Nobody!

The bedding was arranged neatly on the double bed. Obviously, no one was sleeping there.

Li Mu went to the guest room and the study, only to find nobody here again.

His wife was not at home. Night out!

He stood blankly in the living room, feeling panicked suddenly.

It was something that had never happened before. At least, Lin Wan had never done this before when he was at home.

She came from other places and had few relatives or friends in Shanyang. Where could she go at midnight? Why didn't she come back home?

"Maybe she has to participate in social activities due to school events?" Li Mu thought to himself.

He soon denied this idea. Even if that was true, how could she not go home after midnight? Not to mention that it had never happened before.

She has said that she was going to sleep and said goodnight to him, which only meant, either Lin Wan lied to him or she slept somewhere else.

Li Mu pressed his lips tightly. The surprise proved to be a failure. No wonder people suggested fewer surprises between couples. A surprise unproperly done would easily turn into a shock.

He sat on the sofa glumly and lighted a cigarette. The glowing cigarette butt flickered in the darkness, just as his feeling at the moment.

Li Mu smoked one cigarette after another, waiting quietly, not knowing how long it has passed. It was already 4 am the next day when he looked at his watch again.

His wife didn't go back home the whole night, her whereabouts unknown!

He didn't call Lin Wan. For one thing, he didn't know how to ask her; for another, since she had told a lie, could she tell her husband the truth?
