Chapter 1 Stabbed to Death

Several years after that tragic incident took place, the group of drug dealers still managed to locate me.

I called my husband, whilst trembling in fear, Harvey Ferguson, and placed my only hope on him.

Unfortunately, my call for help was returned with his indifferent response. "Danica, you're a terrible liar. Do you think I will believe you if you imitate what happened to Nat? Get over here and finalize our divorce in three days. Stop coming up with bad excuses like this."

When I saw that he heartlessly hung up the phone, I completely gave up on the idea of seeking his help.

The drug dealers brutally stabbed me dozens of times as they gritted their teeth in anger and roared, "Pay for what your father did!"

Moments before dying, I seemed to have seen my father. "Dani, don't cry. Come. Follow me home," he said with a smile.

Although I desperately wished his words were true, I knew very well it was just my hallucination, for my father had been dead for more than ten years.

The ice-cold raindrops dripped on my face, and I gradually lost consciousness.

Harvey threw his phone aside and was apathetic toward my dozens of calls for help. Right then, his eyes were filled with distress as he looked after his sweetheart, Natalie Lawson, wholeheartedly.

"Sorry, did I cause you and Danica to quarrel again?" Natalie lowered her head, tears glistening in her eyes.

"Nat, it's not your fault. She ignored your call for help when the gangsters harassed you last time. I can't believe she would even try to imitate the incident and say she has been kidnapped. Does she seriously think I will fall for that?"

It seemed that he had been holding a grudge against me for what happened to Natalie and never really believed me.

"It's okay. I have forgiven her." Natalie raised her teary eyes and looked at Harvey. "I shouldn't have fallen in love with you and angered Danica. It's all my fault."

"Nat, please stop blaming yourself. It breaks my heart seeing you like this." Harvey pulled her into his arms, his facial expression full of love.

I felt a slight agony in my heart upon learning that the feelings we shared for 12 years turned out to be an illusion.

That wasn't accurate. My marriage with Harvey ceased to exist except in name. So, how could there be any feelings between us?

We only tied to each other because of the accident that happened when I was 14 years old. My father died trying to save Harvey while he was arresting drug dealers.

Hence, the Fergusons took me in in order to quench the guilt they felt toward me.

From then on, I became Harvey's fiancee.

He strongly rejected the idea and hated me with his every being.

When we were 14, his family instilled in him the idea of marrying me. They told him that since he caused me to lose my family, he must take care of me for the rest of his life. So, he despised me. He didn't understand why his life had to be bound to me.

My life in the Ferguson Residence was miserable. Harvey tried every means to torture me into leaving. However, I didn't know where to go.

The drug dealers who had escaped punishment were still looking for me. Back then, I could only cling to the Fergusons in order to survive and silently endure all the humiliation Harvey served me.

It was also then that I secretly vowed I would leave the Ferguson Residence forever once I turned adult. Even if it was dangerous out there, I refused to be trapped here for the rest of my life.

Alas, things went contrary to my wishes, which made me lament my fate until this day.

During the year I turned 22 years old, I still stayed behind because of Harvey and that mistake. One night, when he was drunk, he kissed me.

I wanted to resist and fight against his unwanted attention. However, I heard him whispering my name softly the moment I wriggled to break free.

At the time, it made my heart flutter.

Thus, it led to this ridiculous nightmare.
