That day almost at midnight, Alex received a call from an unknown number when he was about to sleep. He frowned and stared at the number, wondering who the person was calling him at that hour. He didn't pick up, thinking that it might be just a random call, and went to sleep. But his phone again rang, and the call was from the same number.
This time he didn't ignore it and answered, "Hello."
An unusually stuffy male voice came out from the other end of the phone, "Mr. Mayor's daughter's life is in danger. Save her."
Startled, Alex jumped out of the bed frantically and asked in a frenzy, "Who are you?"
"I am a well-wisher of her. Don't leave her alone if you want to save her."
Alex’s eyebrows knitted even tighter an
Jasmine Brown was infuriated. She brushed his hands off and rebuked savagely, "How dare to say this to me? You always knew how much I love Daniel but still, you dare to express your feelings to me. How could you?” Irritated, Alex retaliated, "He never loved you and always used you as a ladder to get success. But you... Despite knowing all these, you kept running after him." He leveled the glare at her. Unhappiness crept into his mind. She always expected love from a person who never valued her, and this was the root cause of his grievance. He was trying to show the true face of Daniel Brooke, but she was not ready to listen to him. He tried to persuade her, "Open your eyes and try to see it clearly. He broke up with you, and now suddenly comes back to you, saying that he wants to be by your side. Don't you
The next day Daniel Brooke took Jasmine Brown to a resort, far away from 'X' city. The resort was located on the top of a hill. Jasmin was enjoying the view standing on the porch attached to the cottage. All the sides of the resort were covered with a large number of trees and plants. Some plants bore flowers of different colors which were quite different from those found in plain lands. Jasmine had no idea what were the names of those flowering plants, but she was enjoying the beauty of the scenery. A rapidly flowing stream could be seen from where she was standing. Birds with beautiful feathers were flying and singing merrily. She felt relaxed instantly and inhaled deeply the fresh air, closing her eyes and stretching her arms on either side. There was a faint smell of wildflowers in the air. A wide
Alex was stunned to hear it. He did all this only for her, and now she just asked him to leave. For a few seconds, he didn't react at all, other than leveling a glare at her. "All these days I protected you, stayed by your side, and did everything you asked me to do without a second thought, just to make you happy. Humph…” He snorted and added, “Now, you say that you don't need me. It hurts, Jasmine. I always cared for you, but you... now I know you never cared for me." Alex was heartbroken. The pain was clearly visible from his expression. He sniffed and continued, "If you ever think that I am your true friend, and I am here to protect you, call me. I will come to you immediately." He turned and left as soon as he finished speaking. A drop of tear
One year later... A tall, enticingly good-looking man was coming out of the airport in the capital city. He was pushing a wheelchair, on which a frail woman was sitting, hanging her head down on one side. There was no movement in her body, and only her eyes blinked once after a long time. She looked like a lifeless ragdoll. Half an hour later, they reached LifeLine hospital, and the woman was pushed into an executive ward. With the help of a young nurse in her early twenties, the man laid her down on the sickbed. She was motionless. Her pupils were fixed at a certain point on the white ceiling. He sighed and looked at the nurse, who was injecting the medicine in the IV saline. "Call Dr. Quinn." The nurse nodded and went out of the ward.
Carl Black had recovered much but not fully. He needed to stay a few more days in the hospital. However, he was feeling bored, staying inside the four white walls all day. He asked the doctor if he could go out for a while. The doctor allowed him to walk for some time in the garden of the hospital. He was happy and went out of the ward. The mild breeze hit on his face the moment he came out to the garden. He inhaled deeply and could smell the faint fragrance of different flowers. The garden was huge with many flowering plants and trees. There were cemented benches on the sides. Many patients in their blue hospital gowns were present there. Some of them were chatting with family members sitting on the benches, some were walking slowly with the help of a nurse, and some were in a wheelchair. He looked around and saw a huge cherry blossom tree in one corner of t
The doctor took his phone out of his pocket and started recording while talking nonstop. Lily was also talking and giggling. But for Lisa, they were mute. She could only hear the familiar voice of Carl Black, who was chatting just behind her. A wave of current passed through her brain, activating her nerve endings. Her head shook a few times, and her hands trembled. She tried to lift her leg which caused her left foot to slide down from the footrest. The doctor stopped talking and laughing instantly. He observed Lisa’s movement attentively. She tried hard to raise her legs. Her hands, on the lap, were shaking continuously as she attempted to lift them. The doctor said excitedly, “Hey, she is trying to move.” He didn’t stop his recording and centered his g
“What?” Dr. Quinn’s eyebrows creased deeply. It was nearly two months since Lisa woke up from the coma but during this time span, she never passed out. Then why did she fainted all of a sudden? Without a word, he headed to the ward in haste. Once he came to the ward he asked Lily to put on the EEG and attached the electrodes on Lisa’s head. Lily quickly followed the instruction and Dr. Quinn started observing her brain activity. Her neurons were constantly firing. There was a half-smile on Dr. Quinn’s face but slowly it was replaced by a scowl. He asked sternly, “What happened before she passed out?” His tone was harsh and commanding. Lily knew this time she shouldn’t hide anything, so she explained everythin
After looking for some time at the ceiling, Daniel Brooke pushed her away softly and got up instantly. Wearing his clothes, he sat down on the sofa and took a cigarette. He lit it with the aide of a lighter and sucked the life into it, narrowing his eyes. He leaned back on the sofa, exhaling the smoke. The room filled with the aroma of the cigarette. Jasmine Brown pulled up the blanket, covered her naked body, and sat upon the bed. She looked at him curiously, waiting for his response. Running his fingers through the hair, Daniel Brooke asked, “Why are you asking this now? I am living with you in your mansion, isn’t it enough? I can’t think about marriage now. I need some more time.” He continued smoking without looking at her. Disappointed, Jasmine
