THE PRESENT TIME
REBECCA’S POV
“Welcome to the Writer’s Secrets, Ms. Javier! We are so elated that you have finally accepted our request to be a part of the show.”
I shyly smiled at Maribella. “My apologies that it took so long. The last time you invited me, I was busy writing the High School Love Affair. No matter how much I wanted to accept your invitation, the deadline was chasing after me.”
She laughed and patted her arm. “No worries, we all understand that. That is the most and greatest concern of all writers. But what can we do about it? A deadline is a deadline.”
I nodded and softly chuckled. “That is true.”
“That is why we are so glad that you are here since a lot of our viewers are actually curious about you. Can you tell us more about yourself?”
“I just started writing novels recently and I posted my first story online in a well-known reading app. Never did it occur to me that it will attract so much readers and attention that different companies started to contact me and offer a contract.”
“Wow! That means you are a talented writer!”
I wrinkled my nose. “Thank you.”
“What was the title of the first story you have written and what is the story all about?”
“The title was Taming Sunrise. The story is about twins whose bond was tested when a man named Caleb entered the picture. Dawn, the heroine was a man-hater while Caleb was a girl magnet. These two who has an opposite personality has to cease fire to help the other twin – Dusk with her role. This book is filled with humor, romance and… spicy scenes so I do not recommend it to our young readers.”
“I think I have a new book to hunt.” She chuckled. “Now, you mentioned the High School Love Affair earlier which was released last month, it was astonishing to see the progress of your book. It was immediately labeled as sold out in bookstores and was announced as bestseller worldwide. What do you feel about it?”
“I am highly ecstatic! Though there are moments when I just stare blanky at nowhere and question myself: is this real? Then my sister would yell at me and tell me over and over that this achievement is a hundred percent true. I’m really grateful to all of my readers and my family who supported me throughout my journey.” I faced the camera and sent kisses. “Thank you all so much!”
She looked surprised. “You have a sister? I thought you are an only child?”
“Oh! What I mean was best friend. She’s been staying with me for the longest time and our bond is just as strong as any other blood related sisters out there. So, she’s like a real part of my family.”
“I see…” She nodded. “So going back, it was indeed a magnificent breakthrough knowing that you just started writing novels this year so, I’d like to unravel your secrets on how to become a bestselling author.” Her smile widened as she intently stared at me.
I can’t help but swallow the air blocking my throat. I never really thought that being interviewed in this show was nerve wrecking.
“This is something that I always ask to my guests… What inspired you to write?”
Easy.
I smiled as the answer immediately surfaced in my mind. The tension I felt slowly disappeared.
“Well, ever since I was little, I already discovered my love for writing. The thing that influenced me the most was my diary that I hid under my bed. I would write things that happened to me all throughout the day and make a story out of it in my mind. My imagination during my teenage years was remarkable so most of the things I write today was a part of my teenage creativities or ideas.”
“So, what do you normally write on your diary?” She suddenly asked that made me feel flustered. “If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Uhm… normal stuff.” I feebly answered.
A sly smile slowly formed on her lips. “It’s about your crush, isn’t it?”
I timidly look away and heard her laugh. The crowd joined and teased her.
“I knew it!”
“I-Isn’t that what most young girls write about?” I defended my action. “About how they fell in love with their classmate, what does the boy of their dream looks like, or about their daily life with their classmates?”
She gave me a side glance while maintaining the teasing smile on her. “Well, you do have a point. Then I’ll move to my next question and please, answer this honestly Ms. Javier.”
Oh no… I don’t like that look.
“Is your book ‘High School Love Affair’ greatly influenced by your diary that was written by you during your high school life?”
I knew it! I shouldn’t have talked about my diary!
I tittered.
“Well?” She was waiting for my answer with great anticipation.
I was left without any choice but to admit it. “Yes.”
“Oh my God!” She squealed. “So that’s the reason why most teenagers got hooked with your newest released book! I actually started reading it yesterday and I can relate to most of the scenes there. If only I do not have work, then I would have finished your book in one sitting.”
I can see how much she really enjoyed my story and that made me feel happy. Still… It doesn’t mean that I am out of the hot seat right now.
“I am glad to hear such wonderful praise from you.”
“Seriously, the way you write it was superb! Who would have thought that your book was written with the personal experience you had when you were in high school?”
I let out a nervous laugh. Now everybody knows what I’ve been through when I was still a teenager.
“How much percentage of authenticity came out from your precious diary?” She curiously asked.
I bit my lower lip and contemplated whether to answer it or not but I finally made my decision. “I… I do not wish to disclose.”
She giggled. “Totally understandable! Especially if you guys have read the book.” She looked at the audience inside the studio. “Who among you has read her novel?”
I felt a bit suffocated after finding out that more than half of the people there has read High School Love Affair.
“But nonetheless, it is definitely worth reading.” She smiled at me. “I’d like to ask though… what was the most embarrassing thing that the heroine has done for the hero in your story?”
“There’s a lot.” I softly chuckled. “Sadly, I do not want to spoil the story to those who hasn’t read it yet.”
“Oh, right! Silly me.” She laughed. “Then, can you tell us the most embarrassing thing you have done when you were in high school to call the attention of your crush?”
Oh geez… There’s a lot too.
I wanted to roll my eyes badly but I stopped myself for doing so. I pinned a mental note in my head that I will never talk about my diary again.
I took a deep breath and let out a sigh to compose myself.
“Your fans are waiting.” She coaxed.
“What happened was…”
A FEW YEARS AGO… My heart was pounding loud while standing near the school entrance of Manggahan High School – a public school that I was attending that has around four thousand students. My school wasn’t that big so it only has one entrance gate which made it easier for me to look for my target. I was checking every boy entering the gate while holding the letter in my hand tightly. It was the first day of my senior year and I have gathered my courage to confess my feelings to the person who snatched my heart the first time I ever set my foot in this school. After hiding this admiration for him for three years, I finally convinced myself to tell him how much I like him. But having a crush with the most handsome guy at school was challenging for me. When we were still freshmen, the seniors would visit his classroom which irritated the teachers and other students. Well, it was understandable. Once you laid your eyes on his alluring brown chocolate eyes, you will be mesmerized by it.
Rebecca’s POV MY WORLD SUDDENLY TURNED slow as he entered the school grounds. His neat brown hair was gently bouncing because of the air hitting his face while walking graciously. His presence immediately called the attention of the girls near the entrance gate and even the guys gazed at him. I unconsciously tilted my head to the side as I indulge myself to stare at his captivating features. Staring at him was my hobby. It enables me to pinpoint any changes that happened to him during summer. Catching his gaze was my goal, but it never happened to me – not even in the past three years that I’ve been stalki--- err… I mean admiring him. Sadly, he never really gave me attention even if we were in the same club. Honestly, it’s not just towards me but to other girls as well. I guess that was really his nature. He was obviously an introvert. Ugh! But I guess that’s what even makes him so attractive! Ibarra was just a few steps away from me when my knees and hands started trembling from
Rebecca’s POV (GUIDANCE OFFICE) LENI WAS SITTING BEHIND her desk while looking at me with astonishment. She clasped her hands and leaned backwards on her swivel chair. The silence was deafening and I was praying that she wouldn’t suspend me for what I did. Mirajane was already sent back to our classroom and being with our Guidance counselor, one on one, was making me nervous. "For the past few years that you've been studying here, this is the first time you caught my attention for unsightly action, Rebecca. No. Scratch that… you caught everyone's attention by declaring such a vulgar statement." I looked away as anxiety started crawling back into my senses again. The scene where I shouted his name and left a strong note kept playing in my head. "I never imagined that you would do something reckless like that. You're a genius. Star of the class but hid behind the shadows so I didn't know you were capable of shouting your heart out for the boy who doesn't seem to care about the world
CLASS 4-16 (Rebecca’s POV) “OH, GOOD LORD.” I mumbled as I entered the classroom. All their eyes were fixed at me and the girls were showing how much they dislike the fact that I was there. Ms. Leni pulled me in front and spoke. “Good morning class. There was a last-minute change regarding your advisor and your classmates. Instead of Mrs. Rose, I will be your permanent advisor and we have added two more students in this class.” “If it’s been decided then we cannot do anything but accept that girl.” A lady with a long hair stated nonchalantly. I wanted to run out of the room but doing that will prove that I am just a dumb, wimp, weak-hearted student who talked nonsense earlier. “Please find an available seat, Rebecca.” Ms. Leni said, and I was left with no other choice but to do what she asked. I walked towards the free seat at the back next to a man who was sleeping. I immediately sat down and looked at my desk to avoid their judging stares. I guess it’s better to sit beside a g
THE GIRL SITTING BESIDE me who was also wearing eyeglasses stood up. "My name is Ginny and I, for one, hate bullies." She glanced at me that made me clutched on my skirt tighter. "Sorry if we made fun of you. It was just mind blowing how you confessed to him earlier. Not everyone has that kind of courage so to be honest, I admire what you did." My lips parted in awe. Maybe… they're not that bad after all. "I like studying, but last year my grades fluctuated because…" She took a deep breath. "... Because I was bullied by my classmates. Ms. Leni is already aware of that so I wouldn't talk much about it. So please, I highly suggest everyone to refrain from bullying other students. You have no idea what it can do to someone." I saw other students nodding, especially girls. "And to answer the last question, I would like to take BS in Biochemistry when I reach college. That's why I plan to do my best and ace high school." She smiled and slightly bowed as curtsy. "I hope we all can get
THE PRESENT TIME REBECCA’S POV I finally snapped out of thoughts when I heard Maribella laughed. The audience seems to be enjoying my story too but being sucked back to my memory lane was a bit embarrassing for me. It reminded me of how stupid I was when I was young. I think I said too much. “You are quite adorable in your younger days, Ms. Javier. Not everyone can do that. Honestly, while you are telling us what happened, I pictured myself confessing my feelings to the man I’m in love with and it was quite… unimaginable.” She chuckled and slowly shook her head. “I… I cannot do it.” I smiled. “That’s exactly what they said. But I don’t know. Sometimes, when you feel too much love and you started to feel suffocated for adoring someone, you just find yourself blurting out unnecessary things and feel better after… although, it comes with a price.” “Obviously. If you don’t mind me asking, what happened to you after that incident?” I sighed. “Well…” GOING BACK TO THE PAST THE NEXT
"LOVE? HE'S YOUR BOYFRIEND?" Ginny asked in a whisper. She was also looking at me baffled. "N-No!" I strongly denied but in a feeble voice. "It's been a long time since the last time I saw you. You've become even prettier than before, Love." He sincerely said and gave me a sweet smile. "I missed you." My classmates who were trying to control themselves let out a teasing rumpus. I turned my head and they were all looking at me with a silly smile on their faces. Oh damn! My eyes glimpsed at Ibarra who was just minding his own business. He doesn't seem to care but the people around us will definitely judge me because of what's happening. I felt my cheeks flushed. "Enough with this sweet talk. Introduce yourself." Ms. Leni interrupted and I took the chance to silently sit down on my chair. He beamed as he studied the faces of the people inside the classroom. "Hi! My name is Judiel. I'm the son of Mayor Fernandez reigning in the municipality of Cainta. I ended up here since I final
“MOVING ON WITH THE Vice President. Who would you like to elect?” Jeremy asked while smiling at us. Myrtle raised her hand and stood up. “I nominate Ms. Hera as Vice President. I believe she can work alongside with Jeremy.” Hera smiled. “Well this is new.” She seems elated. If I were to elaborate on that, it appears she got tired of being nominated as a muse for the past three years. “Other candidate?” Mica stood up. “I nominate Heiji as the Vice President. Didn’t he supported Jeremy earlier when Michell was trying to enter our class?” I bobbed my head in agreement. She has a point and now I’m torn between whom shall I choose. “Don’t vote for me.” Heiji whispered while giving us a threatening stare. “I don’t wanna be a part of the officers!” “I close the nomination!” Ray declared. “Now, for those who’s in favor with Hera… raise your hands.” Heiji doesn’t need to beg since most of us really voted for our beautiful classmate. She stood up and walked in front of the class. “We
