"He's a nice kid," Serenity said. "He's smart, and he's a good boy too." A boy of his age could be very naughty, but Fred was painfully quiet.

"The boy is getting along with Jackie, but he's Jenny's kid, after all," Jackson reminded.

Serenity flinched. She did not want to involve the boy in this. "Our grudge against Jenny has nothing to do with the boy." And that was why she had been trying to minimize it these days.

"You may think it has nothing to do with him, but he may think otherwise. He might think you had something to do with his mother's death," Jackson said. He wanted to protect Serenity and the children, and he would do it right.

Serenity pondered before saying, "At least I know what I'm doing. I'll treat Fred right, but if he does have a grudge against me and the Valor family, I'll do something about it!"
