Jackson's eyes snapped open. "If you truly love me, why would you rather fall into the sea than forgive me? I know I made a mistake by letting you suffer in prison, and I've regretted it ever since. His gaze bore into her as he finally voiced the doubt that he had kept buried deep in his heart.
