Rescued

AURORA'S POV

“Fuck!” I screamed in pent-up frustration, kicking the door continuously. I shrugged before falling to my knees. Tears streamed down my cheeks. My life was a failure. I am a failure.

Here I was, seated away from him; I could barely help myself. I couldn't even save my son. I had searched all through the room, every window, every space, yet none other than the door led to an escape route?

I should have been smart enough to keep my phone hidden away from him, but I had not, and now here I am, in ruins.

The uneasiness had bothered me a whole lot. Even as a mother, I had failed. Before I had any spare time to think, a loud noise rang out. Was it a gunshot?

My eyes darted around; perhaps I was mistaken, perhaps it was my imagination getting the best of me. I swallowed hard, clutching my sides.

Another shot was fired into the air, and I knew at that point it was no longer my imagination. The shots were continuous, and soon I had thrown myself toward the door.
