The Call

*Ring Ring*

I opened my eyes snap open once I heard my phone ring, I was having a dream which now I don’t remember because of how scared I got from the ring. When I looked over the clock it was 2:38 AM. what in the hell, who would call me at this time. I laid back in bed as I reached my hands over the nightstand to grab my phone, when I looked at the ID it was unknown, I placed in it my lab I was worried who would call me at this time, or maybe they were spam but my gut told me to answer it.

So I did I pressed the green bottom as I place it to my year. “Hello?” I answered waiting for an answer, I waited but there was no answer, I looked at my phone the call was still on. Then I placed it back to my ear “hello?” I said again.

After a few seconds the other line spoke by saying it me, I stayed silent I was confused, but when “Kate,” the other line said as she begins to sob, as first I didn’t know her but once she said my nickname I knew her it was OMG its really her, it Andrea.

“And...Andrea?’ I asked, as my tears begin dripping down my face I was still shocked after a year she called me Andrea called me? goosebumps covered my arms, the phone went silent for a second then she asked me how I am doing I told her that everything was fine, I asked her what has happened to her. She stayed still then she told me after she ran away with her boyfriend he dumped her another girl and when she got home after a year her parents were..her parents were dead in a house fire.

I covered my mouth as I begin to cry her parents were like my parents after my parents left me and moved to America. They were like my second parents to me. She told me that it was okay.

She apologized for calling me at this hour I told her that it was fine, then she asked me if I can meet with her tomorrow at the usual cafe that we used to hang out at when we were in high school. After she ran in our last year of high school I didn’t get the chance to graduate with her. So I graduated by myself.

I missed her I issued her a lot after a few more minutes of asking each other, we finally agree to meet at Caramel Cafe at 4:20 PM. after I handed up I tried to go back to sleep but I couldn’t, I couldn’t stop thinking to whys he called me after a year and why would she want to meet with me, I know that maybe she missed me but I don’t know why I have bad feelings about it. As I kept thinking I had no idea who I went back to sleep.

7:00 AM

My eyes snapped as my alarm went on I have worked at 8:30 I work at a retail store after I graduate I took a year course in security so basically, I know everything about securities and staff but unfortunately, I couldn’t find any job. I got out of bed and went straight to the bathroom I brushed my teeth then I opened the shower, I turned it to hot water, as I felt I want a hot bath. After half an hour I went out, I wrapped the towel around me as I did my morning skincare routine. Once I was finished I went out as I took black jeans, a black blouse and a black suit I placed them on the bed.

I took out my makeup bag as I applied simple makeup. I like to apply natural makeup. I blowdried my hair as I put it up in a messy bun. I changed by the time I finished it was around 8:03 AM. I quickly ate breakfast which I decided to eat fruit for now. I took my car keys and bag and left. I unlocked my car as I drove to my work.

It was almost 12 PM so it was my time to take a break I was about to go grab lunch when my manager came to me, she informed me that I don't have to stay as the staff will come in, I thanked her but I still decided to grab lunch I was feeling really hungry, as I bought lunch I sat down in my car as I begin eating McDonald’s, suddenly I remembered Andrea’s call from yesterday that she wanted to meet her,

I took out my phone as I went to my calling contact. I remembered I don’t have her number then I remembered to go to the calling history then I saw her number it was on top of my contact history. I pressed on her ID, placing it on my ear, 3rd ring and she picked up, “he..hello?” I began “it’s Katerina,” I told her. She said that she knows it’s me because she added my name to her contacts. I stayed silent then I told her that I am free right now and if she wants to meet I can now. She said she will meet me in 40 minutes as we ganged up. When I looked at the clock it was 1:20 so we should meet at 2:00 PM.

I drove toward the cafe we decided to meet at, then suddenly I started remembering everything that I and Andrea had in the past. I knew her since I was 15 years old. After her parents took me in with them.

Flashback

Before I knew Andrea

4 years ago School

As I was standing by my locker when 3 girls approached behind me and started hitting on me, one of the girls slapped me on my face when I refused to give her money, I didn’t know anything back I was the shy girl with anxiety. When she was about to slap me again I looked away as I covered my face I waited for the slap but when there was nothing but the same girl fell on the floor I looked up, I saw a beautiful girl standing in front of me.

Then the other girl ran toward her she was about to hit her when she held her hand then she slapped her too, she fought the 3 of them she pulled girl who slapped me hairs and asked her to apologize to me she pulled onto her hair tighter when she didn't say it, then the girl apologized to me she through her head on the floor when she heard the principal coming, she took my hand and ran out.

When we got to the background park we stopped we tried catching our breaths as she begins to laugh when I looked at her I couldn’t hold it as I started to laugh with her. I stopped behind her then she started walking toward me it kinds of felt awkward. She held my chin up as she looked at my face.

Her eyes looked sad when she saw red stan on my face from the slap,

Her “you're okay?” she asked as she care3ssed over the red stan. I nodded my head then she stopped back as she handed her hand before she said her name” Andrea, and you are?”

“Katerina,” I said shaking her hands she smiled and I smiled back she was so beautiful chocolate brown hair, hazel eyes her skin was tan. She could have won the beauty contrast if she ever applied for it.

After that we started walking together since I used to walk by myself eat lunch and do everything in school by myself, we started becoming closer and closer each time. Then I realized that I have two classes with her french and math. I nerve noticed her with me in class nice I only paid attention to schoolwork.

As the days passed we became more than sisters, when I saw in 11th grade my parents decided to move to America but I refuse I had planned for everything here my college my best friend Andrea I couldn’t leave everything behind me just so I can move to America, what’s the point if the only family I have is Andrea my parents never loved me since they ever wanted a boy after they knew it was a girl they did rais me but of course something was missing from them which was love and warmness of a parent, they never gave it to me they never cared or gave me the attention they used to leave me at home by myself as they used to travel for business meetings. So I told them that I won’t move anywhere they refused they said this time they will take me because they won’t come back and once I am 18 I can do anything I want and if I want I can come back.

I was really upset 2 days before the plane I ran away I went to Andrea’s house crying I told her that I don’t want to move, when her mother heard about it her mother used to lawyer, she applied for law papers for her to become my guardian when the government approved as long as my parents’ sign and they approve too they can become my guardian.

When Andrea’s mother went and talked to my parents they did something I never imagined they would do I know they hate me but I never thought they would hate me to this level that they both agreed and signed the paper without a blink of an eye. Tears filled my eyes but I didn’t want to cry in front of them showering my weakness I got up and ran straight to the bathroom crying my eyes out after I was done I washed my face and went out.

When I went out I saw Andreeams mother wanting for me she told me to pack my staff she will be waiting for me in the car I nodded then went upstairs packing my stuff. After I finished I went to the living room where my mom and dad were. I was about to hug them when they stepped back. My mom looked at me angrily “we gave you everything why would you do that to us?” she said as I looked over at my dad as he agreed with her nodding his head. “You did but you forgot one thing.” I replied they looked at me waiting to tell them what it was “your love.” I said as I picked my bag and heading out.

I saw happiness with Andrea and her family they treated me like their own daughter they didn’t even treat Andrea li8ke they treat me they showered me what true family means what love means in a family. I was really thankful to them.
