CHAPTER 147

Julia’s POV

I bolted from Grandma Evelyn's room, my heart pounding in my chest. I needed to act fast. As I hurried down the hallway, I heard voices coming from around the corner. I pressed myself against the wall, straining to listen.

“We might need to administer a sedative to keep the patient calm,” a nurse was saying. “Here it is…”

I peeked at their direction and saw that two nurses were talking, with a medication cart between them. My heart raced. I needed to act now before anyone found out that Grandma Evelyn was beginning to wake up. Before that old woman could talk about anything!

Just then, a doctor approached the nurses and they began talking. To my delight, the three of them moved farther in the opposite direction, leaving the cart unattended.

This was my chance. I moved quickly and quietly, my footsteps silent on the linoleum floor.
