Sophia’s POV

I raced down the hospital hallway, footsteps echoing in the sterile silence. My heart pounded, the words I'd overheard from Elijah echoing in my mind like a relentless drumbeat.

Tears blurred my vision as I fled, anger and hurt mixing into a bitter cocktail. How could I still feel this way? I thought I'd moved on, convinced myself that Elijah was a closed chapter in my life. Yet, hearing his conversation with Julia tore open old wounds I thought had healed.

I found solace in a quiet alcove, pressing my back against the cool wall. I can’t believe it, I thought with mixed emotions. Am I still craving for his genuine love, still hoping it’s going to come?

Gathering my composure, I decided to check in on Grandma Evelyn. I took several deep breaths and began walking toward her hospital room. Since I was already here, it would be good to know about her progress from the doctors and nurses assigned to her.
