Sophia’s POV

Friday arrived faster than I expected. As I walked into the play school grounds, holding Reese's hand tightly in mine, I felt a blend of excitement and nervousness. Elijah was on Reese's other side, holding her hand too.

It was surreal to see us like this, together, even if just for a moment. As we passed by a mirror in the hallway, I couldn't help but steal a glance at our reflection.

We looked like a picture-perfect family—Reese, Elijah, and me. It touched something deep within me, stirring a bittersweet feeling. For a brief moment, it felt real, and that scared me. It wasn't reality. It was just a fleeting glimpse of what could have been.

“Mommy, look! I drew this for you!” Reese exclaimed, pulling me out of my thoughts as she excitedly showed me her colorful drawing of our home that was displayed on a bulletin board.

“It's beautiful, sweetheart,” I smiled, kneeling down to her level.

Elijah stood beside us, smiling. “She's quite the artist, isn't she?” he remarked so

Elijah’s POVI was stunned. But of course, it was a great opportunity that I would never pass up. Bringing back Sophia and our daughter Reese to my house would be a wonderful way to conclude such an amazing day. After all, the Family Day was a success beyond my expectations. Reese was still bubbling with excitement about her friends and the activities, and Sophia—Sophia was more relaxed and open than I'd seen her in a long time. We chatted effortlessly about the event, about Reese, about everything and nothing at all. It felt so natural and easy to be together. Back at my house, I offered to cook. Sophia's surprised look was priceless. “You cook?” she asked, a mix of disbelief and curiosity in her eyes.“Yeah,” I chuckled, a bit self-conscious. “I picked it up... well, after you left. I guess I had too much time on my hands.”There was a second of silence as we both remembered that painful part of our relationship. “You know, I always thought it was the house help doing all the coo

Elijah’s POVSophia's words hung in the air like a thunderclap. “Troy may have something to do with what happened to you and Julia,” she repeated, her eyes filled with fear and anxiety.I thought about what Troy had said to her. He could have been bluffing, but there could still be some truth there. “I’ll have to find out. We need to inform the investigators.”Before we could discuss further, a small whirlwind in the form of Reese rushed over to us, holding a handful of colorful drawings. “Look, look! I made these today!” she exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement.Sophia and I exchanged a glance, the gravity of our conversation momentarily forgotten. “These are great, Reese,” I said, taking one of the drawings and examining it. “You never fail to amaze us. And it seems that you just keep getting better!”Reese beamed with pride, then let out a big yawn. Sophia glanced at the clock and sighed. “We should get going. It's getting late. Thank you for dinner, Elijah.”“Of course,” I rep

Elijah’s POVJulia’s been sending me messages yesterday and today, wondering where I had gone. I told her that I needed to attend to some important matters, but I didn’t specify what it was. I did not want to stress her out by saying that I’d gone to Reese’s school with Sophia after she just confessed her real feelings for me. So this afternoon, after dropping by the office to check on things, I went back to the hospital. The hallways seemed quieter than usual, which made me feel like I could hear myself think. I made my way to Julia's room, my mind preoccupied with the unexpected turn of events that had brought her back into my life. When I reached her door, I paused, taking a deep breath before pushing it open. As I stepped inside, I was greeted by a sight I hadn't anticipated: a man standing beside Julia's bed, engaged in a low conversation with her.The man looked familiar, and it took me a moment to place him. His sharp features and confident stance sparked a memory—business ga

Julia’s POVI stared at the ceiling, my thoughts spiraling into a dark vortex of desperation and fear. Elijah had just left, his words echoing in my mind. “I need to do something at work for a while, but I'll be back tonight.” He'd said it so casually, as if he didn't notice the rising panic in my eyes. His presence had been my only anchor in this sterile, suffocating room, and now that anchor was slipping away.I turned my head to the side, watching the door through which he had exited. It felt like a finality, a cruel punctuation mark on the sentence of our relationship. He'd been different lately, a little distant, almost aloof. The caring, sweet Elijah he’d been since my “accident” seemed to be fading, replaced by someone more detached and perhaps even eager to get away from me. I can’t let this happen. No way.Was it because I had confessed my love for him? The words had spilled out of me, raw and vulnerable, but his reaction had been lukewarm at best. Or was it something else

Sophia’s POVSince Family Day, Elijah has been coming over every single day to check on Reese and me. It's strange, really. I remember how he barely acknowledged my existence when we were married. Now, he's here all the time, playing with Reese, hanging out, or just chatting with me. Part of me wonders if he's trying to make up for lost time, or maybe he's finally realized what he lost.It gave me a sense of satisfaction, seeing him make this effort. But more than anything, I was just happy that Reese gets to spend so much time with her dad.I've also noticed that Elijah hasn't been spending as much time at the hospital lately. Instead, he would be here with us. We would even go to the park together or grab food as a trio. It was becoming almost routine, his presence in our lives.Still, I remain cautious. After everything that happened, I can't help but be careful. Yet, seeing Reese's face light up when Elijah walks through the door—it's worth it. For her sake, I'm willing to give t

It's good to be back.”I flexed my arm, no longer confined to a cast, and felt a surge of relief. I felt great, ready to dive back into the projects and the hustle of the office. As I made my way to my desk, Trevis approached me, his usual confident stride evident. “Sophia, can I have a word with you in my office?”“Of course,” I replied, following him. His office was the same as ever, meticulously organized and exuding an air of calm efficiency.“How are you feeling?” he asked as we settled into our chairs.“Much better, th

Julia’s POVThings were really getting out of hand. Elijah hadn't accepted my brother Henry's proposals for a business partnership, and he hadn't been coming to visit me often anymore. Elijah’s POVHolding Julia in my arms, I had my back on everyone else in the hospital room. My hand moved in slow circles on her back, trying to soothe her as she sobbed uncontrollably into my shoulder. Her cries were gut-wrenching, and each one felt like a dagger to my heart. It took me back to when my best friend Sabrina had fallen off her bike and cried just as hard. I was the only one who could comfort her back then, the only one who could make her feel better. And now, Sabrina’s here with me, after all those years I spent searching and yearning for her. Julia is Sabrina. And she needs me now more than ever. “Hey, it's okay, Julia. I've got you,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over her sobs. I couldn't help but feel a surge of guilt. I had doubted Julia, doubted that she was really Sabrina. How could I have done that to her?I glanced over my shoulder briefly. The doctor was talking to Chris, who looked alarmed at the mention of additional tests for potential trauma. I qu

Her warm smile widened when she saw me. “Sophia! Finally. I was starting to think you’d gotten stuck in another snowstorm.”“Trust me, I almost did,” I said, exhaling as I set down my bag. “Thanks for picking up Reese. Sophia’s POVAs I stepped into my car, the cold leather seats sent a sharp chill through me. The afternoon sun, shy but persistent, peeked through scattered clouds, bathing the pristine snow in a gentle radiance. Thankfully, the blizzard had blown over quickly, and the roads were clear enough to navigate. It was the kind of crisp day that made the world feel brand new, but my thoughts were far from fresh.Lucas stood near the entrance of the ski resort, his hands shoved into his coat pockets. He waved, a warm smile on his face as I rolled down my window.“Thanks for coming, Sabrina,” he called, his voice carrying easily in the still air. I forced a polite smile, not knowing how to feel about him still calling me Sabrina up to now, especially after what I'd just discovered about my childhood. “Thanks, Lucas. The resort has so much potential. I’ll send over the updated designs soon.”“I’m looking forward to it,” he said, stepping back. “Drive safe. Roads might still be icy in some spot

Emily’s POVThe biting cold wrapped around me like a vice as the forest settled into an eerie stillness. The sounds of the chase from the night before had faded, but they seemed to continue echoing in my head. My legs ached, my hands were raw, and my breath fogged in the frigid air as I stumbled forward, searching for something—anything—that could serve as a refuge. It’s getting late. I have to find shelter first. The darkness was suffocating, but then, faintly, through the trees, I saw a glimmer of light. My heart leaped as I cautiously approached, praying it wasn’t a trap. What I found instead was a small, dilapidated hunting shack, nearly swallowed by the forest. Its wooden walls were warped, the roof sagging in places, but it was shelter. For now, it was enough.Inside, the air was stale and cold, but at least it shielded me from the howling wind. I found a dusty lantern and managed to light it with trembling hands, its soft glow pushing back the shadows. There was an old cot in

Sophia’s POVThe memory hung in my mind like a shadow, vivid and unsettling. Lucas’s voice—the one I had heard in my dream, the one calling for Sabrina—now felt too real to dismiss as just a fragment of my imagination.I tried to focus on the snow, its mesmerizing dance beyond the glass, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing. And then Lucas stepped closer, his presence pulling me from my turmoil. His eyes searched mine. “What are you remembering?” he asked carefully. I turned to face him fully, my heart thundering in my chest. “It’s… hard to explain,” I began, forcing the words out through the lump in my throat. “I had a dream—a nightmare, really—about when I got lost in the snowstorm as a child. I mean, I already know that it was Morgana who actually left me behind because she’d met with her lover then. But now…”Lucas’s eyes narrowed. “Now what?”“Well, in my dream, I thought I heard Elijah calling my name. He’d been there with his family too, so…”Lucas’s expression tightened, but he s

Sophia’s POVThe view outside the window was breathtaking—snow-dusted hills stretching endlessly under a pale blue sky. The cozy lounge, with its crackling fire and soft golden lighting, felt like the perfect setting for a romantic moment. It should have been calming, but my mind was anything but calm. That photo of Elijah and Victoria burned in my memory. Her sitting so close to him, their laughter captured at just the right moment. It made my chest tighten with anger and something I didn’t want to name—jealousy. The thought alone made me queasy, but it also left me vulnerable. Vulnerable to Lucas.I glanced at him. He stood just a few feet away, his expression soft but intent, watching me like I was the only person in the world. His confession still echoed in my ears, and I couldn’t deny the pull of the moment. It was too perfect, too charged. For a brief, fleeting second, I let myself wonder what it would feel like to bask in his affection, to let myself be swept up in something s

Elijah’s POVThe silence in my office was deafening. I leaned back in my chair, staring at the half-empty coffee cup on my desk. The bitterness clung to my tongue, a reminder of the recent situation in my marriage. Oh, Sophia. What’s happening to us?She’d been consuming my every thought lately. And not in the way she used to. Not with warmth or laughter, but with cold uncertainty. We hadn’t spoken properly since I sent her those flowers. It was my way of saying: I still care about you. She’d thanked me, of course, but there was no follow-up. No deep conversation. I really miss her. God knows how much I miss my wife. We used to talk about everything. The kids. Work. The stupid little things that made up our days. Now? She was busy. Always busy. Late nights at the office. Early mornings. And when she was home, she was either buried in her laptop or tiptoeing around me like I was made of glass. And it wasn’t just work. It was that damn Lucas who found a way to be with her more. Just

But the seed of doubt had been planted, and it was growing faster than I could contain it.We need to talk. Soon. Heart to heart, I resolved, my chest tightening as I fought back a surge of emotion. The silence of the room around me only made the ache sharper, more vivid.Just then, Lucas’s footsteps broke through the quiet, and I quickly pushed my phone back into my pocket. He entered the lounge with a tray balanced in his hands, two mugs of steaming hot chocolate sending up tendrils of inviting warmth. The image of Elijah and Victoria lingered in my mind, gnawing at my thoughts like a relentless storm. Sophia’s POV“Lucas,” I called out, stepping onto the cobblestone path that led to the resort’s grand, albeit faded, entrance. “You’ve got a prime location here.”He emerged from the double doors, his familiar grin warm against the chilly mountain air. “Sophia, welcome. How was the drive up?”“Long,” I admitted, adjusting my scarf as the wind tugged at it. I was bundled up in a navy wool coat, a pair of tan ankle boots, and a thick cream-colored knit scarf. The frosty air bit at my cheeks, and I shoved my gloved hands into my coat pockets for warmth. “But worth it. This place…” I gestured to the sprawling ski resort behind him, its old-world charm dulled by time and neglect. “It’s stunning. Or at least, it has the bones to be.”Lucas chuckled, his gaze lingering on me. “That’s why you’re here. To make it amazing again.”As I stepped closer, I caught the faint scent of pine and woodsmoke clinging to the air, mingling with the crispness of the snow-dusted ground. For a brief moment, the

But her eyes, wide and shimmering with unshed tears, carried a familiar depth of emotion that struck me instantly. Before I could speak, she stepped forward and wrapped both Kayla and me in a tight embrace.“Phoebe,” I murmured, still stunned. “You’re here.”Her hug felt prolonged, as if she were drawing strength from it. When she pulled back, her hands rested firmly on my arms, her smile wavering slightly. “I couldn’t stay away any longer,” she said, her voice soft but laden with feeling. “I needed to see you.”“We’ve missed you so much,” Kayla said, adjusting Asha on her hip. Asha reached out with a tiny hand, patting Phoebe’s cheek, as if sensing the tension in the air. Kayla smiled gently, her tone as soothing as always. “How have you been?”Phoebe hesitated, brushing a tear from her chee
