Julia’s POV

Things were really getting out of hand. Elijah hadn't accepted my brother Henry's proposals for a business partnership, and he hadn't been coming to visit me often anymore. I knew he had been busy hanging out with Sophia and Reese because, even if he said nothing, I overheard him talking to Sophia one time.

And now, the doctor said there was no progress with my hand and it was likely that I wouldn't be able to use it like before. Ever.

How can I ever pursue my passion for drawing and painting again? How can I fulfill my dream of becoming a world-famous designer? How can I ever beat Sophia in this field?

It was all too much. All my dreams were shattering one by one in front of my eyes! And it was all because of that stupid driver that Henry had hired. He needed to pay for this too.

I couldn't help crying and breaking down in the hospital room when I got the news about my hand.

“No! This can't be happening!” I shouted, throwing a vase across the room. It shattered against

Elijah’s POVHolding Julia in my arms, I had my back on everyone else in the hospital room. My hand moved in slow circles on her back, trying to soothe her as she sobbed uncontrollably into my shoulder. Her cries were gut-wrenching, and each one felt like a dagger to my heart. It took me back to when my best friend Sabrina had fallen off her bike and cried just as hard. I was the only one who could comfort her back then, the only one who could make her feel better. And now, Sabrina’s here with me, after all those years I spent searching and yearning for her. Julia is Sabrina. And she needs me now more than ever. “Hey, it's okay, Julia. I've got you,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over her sobs. I couldn't help but feel a surge of guilt. I had doubted Julia, doubted that she was really Sabrina. How could I have done that to her?I glanced over my shoulder briefly. The doctor was talking to Chris, who looked alarmed at the mention of additional tests for potential trauma. I qu

Sophia’s POVI stood outside Julia's hospital room, my heart pounding in my chest. My bag slipped from my shoulder and hit the floor with a loud thud. Suddenly, all eyes turned to me. Elijah's eyes widened in surprise, and Julia's tear-streaked face twisted in confusion. I forced a smile, even though my insides felt like they were shattering into a million pieces.“Sorry about that,” I said, bending down to pick up my bag. Trevis was behind me, his hand on my shoulder in a show of support.I took a deep breath and stepped into the room, feeling the weight of everyone's gaze. “Hey, Julia,” I said softly. “How are you feeling?” Julia's sobs had quieted, but tears still streamed down her face. “Not good, Sophia. My hand... the doctor said…”“It's not final,” I interrupted gently, moving to her bedside. “I heard what he said a while ago. Believe in miracles, Julia. Your hand might still heal with long-term therapy and other treatments. Don't lose hope, okay?”Julia shook her head, her ey

Sophia’s POVMy mind was stuck in that hospital hallway, replaying the scene between Julia and Elijah over and over. By the time I parked and walked into the Italian restaurant, I was exhausted, both physically and emotionally.I spotted Kayla at our usual corner table, slightly secluded from the rest of the diners. She stood up with a warm smile, and we hugged tightly.“Soph! It’s been too long,” she said, pulling back to look at me. Her smile faltered slightly. “You okay? You don't seem like your usual jolly self.”I waved a hand dismissively, trying to brush off her concern. “It's nothing, really.”Kayla frowned, her eyes narrowing. "I know something's up. Come on, tell me."We sat down, and I took a deep breath, knowing she wouldn’t let it go. “I was at the hospital earlier,” I began, my voice shaking slightly. “Julia was screaming and crying because the doctor told her she might never be able to use her right hand again. Elijah was there comforting her. Then she… she asked him to

Sophia’s POVKayla's mention of Morgana snapped me out of my daze. The dim lighting of the restaurant cast shadows on Kayla’s face, making her look more mysterious. Intrigued, I leaned in closer. “What secret about Morgana?” I asked.Kayla glanced around the restaurant, her eyes scanning the room for any eavesdroppers. Then she leaned in, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial tone. “You know my grandmother lives in Lyon, right? My parents and I went to visit her for a week. While we were there, we spent a lot of time at Place Bellecour, one of the largest open squares in Europe. It's this beautiful, bustling place with a statue of Louis XIV right in the center.”I nodded, urging her to continue. “Yeah, I’ve been there once.” Memories of the picturesque square flashed in my mind, the lively atmosphere and the grandeur of the statue.“One afternoon, while we were at Place Bellecour, I heard this familiar voice that made me turn around. That’s when I saw Morgana walking with a man. She

Sophia’s POVUnlocking the door to my apartment, images of Elijah and Julia at the hospital flashed again through my mind, their raw emotions lingering in my thoughts. What’s more, I kept thinking about Morgana and the conversation she had with that strange man. As I stepped inside, laughter from the living room caught me off guard. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Elijah on the floor, playing with Reese. They were both laughing, completely absorbed in their game. Elijah looked up and smiled warmly. “Hey, Sophia.”I forced a smile, feeling my heart race. “Hi, Elijah.” I then remembered what Kayla had said to me — I needed to face him, to talk this out with him. Besides, I had to get used to the idea of Elijah being around often even if he did marry Julia; after all, he would always be a part of my life because of Reese.Quickly, I turned my attention to Reese, who was beaming with excitement.“Mommy, look! Daddy and I are playing a game!” Reese exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with

Elijah’s POVI stood outside Julia's hospital room, taking a deep breath before entering. My mind raced with thoughts of how to approach her delicately, how to reassure her that I cared deeply for her but only as a sister. It was a conversation I was dreading, especially now with everything she was going through. As I pushed the door open, Julia's cries filled the room. She was inconsolable, her emotions swinging wildly from fear to anger to moments of sweetness. “Julia,” I said softly, approaching her bedside. “I'm here. It's going to be okay.”She looked up at me with tear-streaked cheeks, her eyes filled with a mix of desperation and accusation. “You're tired of me, aren't you? You don't want to take care of me anymore,” she sobbed.“No, Julia, that's not true,” I replied gently, sitting down beside her and taking her hand. “I care about you so much. You're like family to me.”Her expression softened briefly, and she squeezed my hand. “I know you do, Elijah. I'm sorry for being lik

Elijah’s POVI carried the tray of medicine and water to the guest room where Julia was staying. The doctor had discharged her from the hospital that morning, and now she was comfortably settled in my home. I pushed open the door and found her sitting up in bed, her smile bright despite everything she’d been through.“Hey there,” I said, crossing the room to her side. “Time for your medicine.”“Thanks, Elijah,” Julia replied, her voice warm. “I’m feeling much better already.”I handed her the pills and a glass of water. “Here you go. Make sure you take these.”She took the medicine obediently, then handed the glass back to me. I set it on the bedside table and propped up her pillows, ensuring she was comfortable.“How’s that? Comfy enough?” I asked, adjusting the pillows a bit more.“Perfect,” she said, her smile widening. “You’re spoiling me.”“I’m happy to take care of you, Julia. You know that.”She sighed contentedly and leaned back. “The new treatments the doctor mentioned, they

Sophia’s POVThe hospital was quieter than usual today. I held Reese's hand as we walked down the sterile, white hallway toward Dr. Lansing's office. It had only been a few days since they removed my cast, and this follow-up check-up was to ensure everything was healing properly. Reese skipped beside me, her wavy hair bouncing with each step.“Mommy, can I get a chocolate drink after this?” Reese asked, her eyes lighting up as she spotted a vending machine at the end of the hallway.“We'll see, sweetie,” I replied, squeezing her hand gently.Dr. Lansing's check-up was thorough but quick. He reassured me that my arm was healing well and gave me a few exercises to help regain my strength. With a fresh set of instructions and a reminder to schedule another appointment in a few weeks, we were on our way out.As we walked down the now-empty hallway, Reese's attention was caught by the vending machine. She let go of my hand and ran ahead, her small footsteps echoing.“Reese, wait!” I called

Sophia’s POVAs I stepped into my car, the cold leather seats sent a sharp chill through me. The afternoon sun, shy but persistent, peeked through scattered clouds, bathing the pristine snow in a gentle radiance. Thankfully, the blizzard had blown over quickly, and the roads were clear enough to navigate. It was the kind of crisp day that made the world feel brand new, but my thoughts were far from fresh.Lucas stood near the entrance of the ski resort, his hands shoved into his coat pockets. He waved, a warm smile on his face as I rolled down my window.“Thanks for coming, Sabrina,” he called, his voice carrying easily in the still air. I forced a polite smile, not knowing how to feel about him still calling me Sabrina up to now, especially after what I'd just discovered about my childhood. “Thanks, Lucas. The resort has so much potential. I’ll send over the updated designs soon.”“I’m looking forward to it,” he said, stepping back. “Drive safe. Roads might still be icy in some spot

Emily’s POVThe biting cold wrapped around me like a vice as the forest settled into an eerie stillness. The sounds of the chase from the night before had faded, but they seemed to continue echoing in my head. My legs ached, my hands were raw, and my breath fogged in the frigid air as I stumbled forward, searching for something—anything—that could serve as a refuge. It’s getting late. I have to find shelter first. The darkness was suffocating, but then, faintly, through the trees, I saw a glimmer of light. My heart leaped as I cautiously approached, praying it wasn’t a trap. What I found instead was a small, dilapidated hunting shack, nearly swallowed by the forest. Its wooden walls were warped, the roof sagging in places, but it was shelter. For now, it was enough.Inside, the air was stale and cold, but at least it shielded me from the howling wind. I found a dusty lantern and managed to light it with trembling hands, its soft glow pushing back the shadows. There was an old cot in

Sophia’s POVThe memory hung in my mind like a shadow, vivid and unsettling. Lucas’s voice—the one I had heard in my dream, the one calling for Sabrina—now felt too real to dismiss as just a fragment of my imagination.I tried to focus on the snow, its mesmerizing dance beyond the glass, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing. And then Lucas stepped closer, his presence pulling me from my turmoil. His eyes searched mine. “What are you remembering?” he asked carefully. I turned to face him fully, my heart thundering in my chest. “It’s… hard to explain,” I began, forcing the words out through the lump in my throat. “I had a dream—a nightmare, really—about when I got lost in the snowstorm as a child. I mean, I already know that it was Morgana who actually left me behind because she’d met with her lover then. But now…”Lucas’s eyes narrowed. “Now what?”“Well, in my dream, I thought I heard Elijah calling my name. He’d been there with his family too, so…”Lucas’s expression tightened, but he s

Sophia’s POVThe view outside the window was breathtaking—snow-dusted hills stretching endlessly under a pale blue sky. The cozy lounge, with its crackling fire and soft golden lighting, felt like the perfect setting for a romantic moment. It should have been calming, but my mind was anything but calm. That photo of Elijah and Victoria burned in my memory. Her sitting so close to him, their laughter captured at just the right moment. It made my chest tighten with anger and something I didn’t want to name—jealousy. The thought alone made me queasy, but it also left me vulnerable. Vulnerable to Lucas.I glanced at him. He stood just a few feet away, his expression soft but intent, watching me like I was the only person in the world. His confession still echoed in my ears, and I couldn’t deny the pull of the moment. It was too perfect, too charged. For a brief, fleeting second, I let myself wonder what it would feel like to bask in his affection, to let myself be swept up in something s

Elijah’s POVThe silence in my office was deafening. I leaned back in my chair, staring at the half-empty coffee cup on my desk. The bitterness clung to my tongue, a reminder of the recent situation in my marriage. Oh, Sophia. What’s happening to us?She’d been consuming my every thought lately. And not in the way she used to. Not with warmth or laughter, but with cold uncertainty. We hadn’t spoken properly since I sent her those flowers. It was my way of saying: I still care about you. She’d thanked me, of course, but there was no follow-up. No deep conversation. I really miss her. God knows how much I miss my wife. We used to talk about everything. The kids. Work. The stupid little things that made up our days. Now? She was busy. Always busy. Late nights at the office. Early mornings. And when she was home, she was either buried in her laptop or tiptoeing around me like I was made of glass. And it wasn’t just work. It was that damn Lucas who found a way to be with her more. Just

But the seed of doubt had been planted, and it was growing faster than I could contain it.We need to talk. Soon. Heart to heart, I resolved, my chest tightening as I fought back a surge of emotion. The silence of the room around me only made the ache sharper, more vivid.Just then, Lucas’s footsteps broke through the quiet, and I quickly pushed my phone back into my pocket. He entered the lounge with a tray balanced in his hands, two mugs of steaming hot chocolate sending up tendrils of inviting warmth. The image of Elijah and Victoria lingered in my mind, gnawing at my thoughts like a relentless storm. Sophia’s POV“Lucas,” I called out, stepping onto the cobblestone path that led to the resort’s grand, albeit faded, entrance. “You’ve got a prime location here.”He emerged from the double doors, his familiar grin warm against the chilly mountain air. “Sophia, welcome. How was the drive up?”“Long,” I admitted, adjusting my scarf as the wind tugged at it. I was bundled up in a navy wool coat, a pair of tan ankle boots, and a thick cream-colored knit scarf. The frosty air bit at my cheeks, and I shoved my gloved hands into my coat pockets for warmth. “But worth it. This place…” I gestured to the sprawling ski resort behind him, its old-world charm dulled by time and neglect. “It’s stunning. Or at least, it has the bones to be.”Lucas chuckled, his gaze lingering on me. “That’s why you’re here. To make it amazing again.”As I stepped closer, I caught the faint scent of pine and woodsmoke clinging to the air, mingling with the crispness of the snow-dusted ground. For a brief moment, the

But her eyes, wide and shimmering with unshed tears, carried a familiar depth of emotion that struck me instantly. Before I could speak, she stepped forward and wrapped both Kayla and me in a tight embrace.“Phoebe,” I murmured, still stunned. “You’re here.”Her hug felt prolonged, as if she were drawing strength from it. When she pulled back, her hands rested firmly on my arms, her smile wavering slightly. “I couldn’t stay away any longer,” she said, her voice soft but laden with feeling. “I needed to see you.”“We’ve missed you so much,” Kayla said, adjusting Asha on her hip. Asha reached out with a tiny hand, patting Phoebe’s cheek, as if sensing the tension in the air. Kayla smiled gently, her tone as soothing as always. “How have you been?”Phoebe hesitated, brushing a tear from her chee
