He glared at me and I stood there waiting for him to apologize but instead he walked past me still talking on phone with whoever he might be communicating with. I just lost my patience and whatever respect I had, if he had at least bumped into someone, he should apologize for what he had done. "Young man." I yelled as I ran to him dragging him by his cloth back to me causing murmurs in the store. Everyone's attention was now focused on us. "How dare you! You bumped into me, wasted my food and smoothie and you couldn’t even apologize or do something to amend whatever you just did.” I yelled at him. It was enough that I was frustrated already but I can’t let one guy ruin my mood completely, it’ll be completely unfair, ahhhh. He stared at me for a while, his expression cold and with no remorse, “Cat got your tongue.” I frowned. "So how much do you need for me to compensate you? It was just food right? I didn’t hit you with my car or anything?" He asked which caught me off guard. Who was this rude man? "To think a low classless employee like you could talk back at me is disrespectful." He said and I glared at him in awe. "And if you think this strategy of making me notice you will work then you are wrong because I’m not interested in bitches without manners." That was it. I lost my temper completely, I raised my hand and hit him on his right cheek, he looked shocked at what I just did. “Firstly young man, I am no bitch, secondly, I don’t understand what you are talking about me being an employee and even if I am, does that give you the right to talk shit about employees here, then thirdly, I rather look for attention of a dog than look for yours with no remorse of mistakes.” That felt good to say. He rolled his eyes. But to be honest, he was handsome, top notch, exactly my spec, but the rudeness, that’s a red flag. "You know what, this is one of my company and I know for sure you are one of my employees so wait for your dismissal letter." He said and smirked like he was proud of it. I laughed at his words and that was when he frowned back. He must be expecting me to start begging him after the threat but who cares, um not even an employee. "You must be dreaming because clearly, I am not one of your employee and I don’t look like someone who could work under you. News flash, even if I am, I’ll have given you a piece of my mind. I don’t know there are still bosses who treat their own employees like trash but here you are.“ I glared at him before leaving but stopped at the entrance. "And mind you, my dress might be simple but it can buy yhis restaurant company, it’s too small for you to be bragging about.” He just stood there staring at me like he had seen a ghost. Bastard! ~~~~~~~~~~ I sighed as I came out of the airport, I was back in California after months. I decided I wouldn’t be back soon because the last meeting didn’t end well. I stopped a cab and drove home, I paid him after I got down and walked towards the gate. The guards didn’t bother stopping me as they recognized me. I remembered stepping out of the house in tears as my mother tried stopping me. They just wouldn't change their love for the first child, no matter how much I tried and that’s why I wouldn’t let them in my identity no matter what. I pressed on the alarm door and the dood was opened a minute later by the maid and I walked inside elegantly. I was wearing a navy pink slim fitted gown and my bare back could be seen. Stepping into the sitting room, I could see people sitting there. A man, a guy and a woman, my mom and dad opposite them with Diana all smiles beside them. I scoffed, bunch of fools. “Guess who’s home?” I said to get their attention. All of them turned around and I frowned seeing the guy. Not this rude jerk again, what’s he doing here? Or is it what I’m thinking? Looking at Diana, she was still staring at him. "What are you doing here?"I asked him as I sat down opposite all of them comfortably, my dad glared at me but who cares. He stared at me for a while and his face lit up for some reason. "Aren't you the lady from my airport?" He asked instead, I really don’t like it when someone ignored what I said to ask me another question. "I can remember I asked you a question first so I think that should be your number one answer and not you asking me another question." I fired at him and he smiled. "Well it's obvious if I don't know anyone here, I wouldn't be here so would you quit asking irrelevant questions? Even if you don't know why I am here. You could have at least sensed that I came here for someone." He retorted and I scoffed. Diana glared at me. "My Rosa." I heard my mother's voice. I didn’t really notice her since earlier so I rolled my eyes, I’m not your Rosa. “I’m not your Rosa and if you don’t mind, can the meeting get started already, I’m losing my patience.” Everyone gasped except the guy. "Just let's have a normal conversation and sort things out."James Staring at the lady opposite me, I wouldn’t lie that I picked an interest on her, especially when she talked to me at the restaurant the other time. When she came in, if anyone told me she wouldn’t greet her father, then I’ll have argued, the way she spoke to her mother completely threw me off.The hatred on her face was evident and I couldn’t help but wonder why she was like that. Then there comes the eldest daughter. Sarah Andrew. To be honest, I would rather go for Sarah than this crazy lady but I just want her.I just want to get revenge on what she had done to meet at the restaurant and maybe this was the right way but that’s after the meeting.I just fixed my directions at her. She was the last daughter of the house. I thought the last daughter is always the sweetest but then this one wasn't at all. She was the opposite."Are we just going to sit here and watch each other's mouth?" I heard her ask impatiently. Why was she this impatient? Everyone else has things to do rig
Rosa"What?" We both yelled in unison, anger written all over my face.My sis was busy talking to dad in annoyance but I have heard enough of them, “Enough!” I shout.I faced James, “Why will you say you want me? I’m not a tool, I’m human and you heard them when they said Sarah is the one to get married to you, I don’t want you and it’s simple.”His parents stood up, “We’ll prepare for the wedding, try to talk to your daughter.” And with that they left leaving the guy, he looked at me and stood up.“I don’t want to chose you as much as you don’t want me. But wouldn’t you be a perfect negotiating partner for the stock they wanted.” He smirked, Sarah stopped complaining and stared in shock before he went out.“What’s going on here?” I faced them, Sarah did same. Mom explained the company is facing crisis and they had no choice but to create a wedding alliance with his family and since Sarah loved him, they decided to marry her off to him.But now that he chose me then I have no choice b
RosaThey were shocked after all the explanation I gave them and even Clarissa pitied me, she knew how much I have wanted a lovely marriage and not one of this. After we ate breakfast, we all dressed up and decided to stay in watching movies but Henry suggested shopping to clear off our minds. This was the third shopping mall we would be going in and it truly walked out because I forgot almost everything going on with me.He would pay for everything that we ate and whatever thing that needed to be paid. We even took pictures together.Clarissa excused herself because there was a client causing issues at work and she said she wanted to fly back to Florida. Even though I insisted Henry following her, she said I needed someone by my side to cheer me up.We escort her to the airport and after her plane took off, we both left to another shopping mall. I walked inside the mall hand in hand with Henry. This was a dressing mall and it looked unique but not like my own, “Their mall is so beaut
Rosa’s POV I stared in horror, seeing the sight before me; They kissed, they fucking kissed right in front of me, I can’t believe this guy, he held unto her neck and angled her head for better access to her mouth and when she moaned, I lost it “James.” I roared, pushing them apart, “Don’t you realize that we just got married, it’s not even up to 12 hours yet and you’re already cheating on me, who the fuck is this bitch?”“Are you crazy? Who are you calling a bitch? You must be the hoe here cos how can you say you got married to someone and he’ll bring someone else to your home, you must be pretty terrible in bed for him to do that.” the girl said looking at her red-painted nails. “Calm down Dera, she’s not worth you bursting your nerve over.” James replied, pulling her towards him “James.” I called again, “Why are you doing this to me? not today of all days.” he tightened his hands around her waist and gave her ass a little squeeze “Stop it baby.” Dera giggled and stood on her tipt
Rosa’s POV Dera was on his lap and dry-humping James while he sucked on her perky boobs, he had his hands on one of her boobs and his mouth on the other while she had her hands around his head to pull him into her with her head thrown back in pleasure. I watched them in silence as pain consumed my whole being, this has been what he was up to the whole time and he locked me away for days, my heart crumbled, as tears poured out of my eyes in waves, they were so into whatever they were doing that they did not notice me, I blindly picked up the vase next to me and flung it in their direction, it hit the wall and shattered all around them on the bed. “You fucking son of a bitch, I hate you, how dare you lock me up for days without food or water? and after that, you are enjoying yourself, Fuck you.” I yelled and slammed the door. I moved out of the honeymoon house immediately and I went straight to James's penthouse in the city, I picked the room farthest from his and settled in. I woke u
Rosa’s POV We bumped into Dera when we went to the elevator and I immediately regretted what had just happened between James and I. I was married to him and wore his ring but immediately Dera jumped on James and placed a huge kiss on his cheeks, I felt worthless “I’ve been calling you for ages baby, but you weren’t picking up.” Dera sobbed James shrugged her off and pushed her away, I looked up at him in shock, he pulled me closer and planted a kiss on my cheeks. “I was spending quality time with my wife, get the fuck out, what exactly are you doing here bitch, who told you where I live”? Dera was dumbfounded and I giggled, James traced his fingers up my skirt and tried to insert them into me “Stop.” I pushed him off giggling.“You couldn't get enough of my fingers 20 minutes ago, why are you pushing me away now?” he pouted. “Later baby.” I grinned. James pulled me out completely forgetting about Dera, I turned around last minute to see her wiping away her tears. I shrugged and go
Dera’s POV I gazed at the mirror at my own reflection, trying hard to adjust my facial expressions. My blood boiled, my eyes were distant, in my heart fueled a burning desire for revenge against James’ worthless family. As I came down the stairs , my eyes met with Vivian, she waited for me in the entrance hall, her eyes were shining so brightly. “Dera all is set,” she whispered into my ears while standing by my side and handing over a folder containing the kidnapping plan. I nodded with a smile, tucking the folder into my bag. “James will never suspect a thing," I said. Vivian gave an evil smile. "Rosa will be doomed and devastated. James will definitely turn on her, and we'll reap the benefits." My thoughts went back to the past , to the moment that triggered my hatred for James. My father was broken, his bankruptcy was caused by James' father due to his ruthless tactics which left my family shattered. My mother who couldn’t bear it the most went into depression while my brothe
Rosa’s pov I carefully searched the gala, my eyes scanning the crowded room for Emma's nanny. Where was she? Why hadn't she texted?I felt so uncomfortable, I could feel danger somewhere as my heart raced faster, refusing to be controlled . My anxiety grew stronger, my heart racing with every passing moment. James tried to reassure me, but I knew something was wrong. I was too weak to be strong, my emotions took over me . "Rosa, calm down please. Emma's fine," James said, his voice soothing. But I could sense he wasn’t comfortable behind his supporting mask , he was tensed too but wanted to be brave. I looked away as I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread. “What!” I said, my voice sharp and eager as I turned back to James only to see his face pale, his eyes fixed on his phone. "James, what's wrong?" I repeated, my voice trembling. He didn't respond. He stumbled backward, his eyes wide with horror. "James!" I screamed. The room around me blurred as tears rushed to my face. "What is
James’s PovThere was a charged air, electricity hanging in the atmosphere — waiting for a spark. The energy in the room was palpable—anticipation, excitement, and disbelief. Rosa was pregnant with twins. Our twins. Years of love, toil and growth had built up to this moment, it was almost surreal in its enormity.I scanned the room to find our friends, family and colleagues filling up the venue for the grand opening of The Harden Family Foundation —the foundation we had worked so hard to build. This initiative was something we had both cooked up, helping young entrepreneurs and artists with the tools needed to build their dreams. This was the beginning of our next chapter, a one that would create an impact much larger than we ever could alone.Still, all of that felt secondary now to the fact that Rosa was mere hours away from delivering. Her body had been through so much already, the ability to carry this pregnancy now along with everything else—it was nothing short of a miracle. Yes
James’s PovWatching all those little kids in their funny caps and gowns from the back of the auditorium felt strange. It filled me with a combination of pride, nostalgia and disbelief. Emma, our daughter with the wobbly knees walking into her first day at school was long gone. She was at the threshold of something more—her life. And it was happening literally in front of me.Rosa was next to me with her hand resting lightly on my arm, staring at Emma as she stood in front of the podium. I could almost taste her tension, the pride and love she'd been brewing there for more years than I could count. The moment was not only for Emma. It was ours. We had forged this, together, following our lead, with us being there to support and love her through her trials, and victories. And here she was now, standing ready to address an auditorium full of people, preparing to tell the world what she needed them to hear.My heart raced with anxiety as Emma walked to the mic. She was steady, composed b
James’s PovThe day had been a long one. Too long, in fact. With the business problems, Bethel came back, and was still looking for whoever had started messing with Rosa's designs—my brain was like a one-person track team going around in circles. Through all those storms there had been one constant—Rosa. She was the peacekeeper, the nucleus of everything that revolved around it.That evening when she entered with a pale face, an absent look in her eyes, I knew something was wrong. I recognized the expression, my mind saying to keep it together baby girl as though something heavy was on her. Not that she needed to say anything. Not even for a moment did I doubt that always in the air, there was tension.“Hey, what’s wrong?” I said, putting down the coffee cup. Not waiting for an answer, I knew that she needed to talk and I was all ears. But what she would open her mouth and say next would leave me breathless.“I’m pregnant.”My initial reaction was disbelief. I found it hard to take in
Rosa’s PovThose next few weeks were a series of meetings, lack of sleep, and questioning. Bethel had returned to the family home for some time, looking for a sense of stability. Yet, she was merely rebuilding things in her life — There lay an ambiguous journey the next. The search didn't let up for whoever was leaking our designs and the business was feeling that heat. Yet all that remained unchanged, despite the ruckus swirling around us, was James and I locked in as teammates who would bounce forth whatever lurked next. But while the storm raged on we did something weird — something that felt like a cosmic nudge in my direction to say life was still happening literally throughout all this.I had missed a few periods. I initially presumed it was stress. I had hectic days behind me and felt a whole range of emotions. But as days passed, a subtle dread grew in the belly of my stomach. So I grabbed the phone, called my doctor's office. They were able to squeeze me in the next morning f
Rosa’s PovThe first days in the world after moving out of my family home, was like a strange kind of birth. I had reconciled my past and was okay with it, now I would get on with my life. The burden that held me down was finally removed. But as life likes to teach us, we donÕt get change without a fight. The first of many challenges hit James and me while we were sitting at our favorite restaurant, enjoying dinner together. Suddenly, there was a little buzz on the table where his phone was resting. His eyes scanned the words on it, narrowing as he read a message.“What’s wrong?” I half asked, my fork freezing in the air, the pleasant buzz of the restaurant dulled.James, with clipped vocals, replied: "It's about Bethel."I had put my fork down; I could hear the tension behind his voice. And his sister, Bethel, had always been the wild card of the Harden bunch—free-spirited, reckless and bold. Yet lately, she had been making more than a couple of bad choices.“What happened now?”"Of
Rosa’s PovAs we neared the house, which had once been my world, now a rundown old heap. The car came to a slow crawl. I had completely forgotten how much I missed that creak of the tires rolling on the gravel driveway. When I stepped out of the car, a surreal sense of nostalgia and unease washed over me. It was the first time for me back here in years, not since everything had changed. Not since the day I left in search of making a life for myself: so far away from here and all this history that hung around like an echo.“Are you sure about this?” Uh oh what happened James asked down beside me with concern in his voice.I shook my head, probably too fast and grinned at him with a tight smile that was only half reassuring. “Yeah. I think it’s time.”He gazed at me for a second, dark eyes roving over my face, the furrow between his brows growing deeper. He didn't follow up, but I could feel the question line hanging in the air. James had watched me go through hard times over and over,
James’s PovThe morning light was spilling through the blinds of my office, casting long shadows on the floor. While outside, the city hummed quietly in comparison to the storm in my brain. I had been expecting this. And I knew that after all we had done together Reginald would never let things like this slide. Defeat was not one of his words–not easily, anyway. So when I saw his name flash on my phone screen bright and early that morning, I knew it meant something. The door opened and Rosa, a placid but attractive figure of a woman always ready to chat broke into my thoughts. The question if she too had seen the message didn’t even need asking. There was already a heaviness between us.I said, and the words came out like an accusation — though I hadn't even finished speaking.Rosa’s gaze hardened. We knew that walking away quietly was not going to be an option for him. What does he want this time?”I sat back in my chair, rubbing the bridge of my nose as I pondered our choices. Such
Rosa’s POVOn a lazy Sunday afternoon, Emma surprised me with a question that caught me short. She had just finished her homework and was on the couch with her legs tucked under her, watching TV without really paying attention. Her innocent voice interrupted the soft hum of the house.Someday, at some point in our lives, one of us will ask the question — “Mom, why do you and Dad get married?”I paused, as the shock of words were more impactful than I had anticipated. Emma had never been dull — she always asked the kinds of questions that forced you to consider things in a way you never had before. I knew this day would come, but so early I didn't expect My thoughts were tumbling a bit as I tried to find the most appropriate words; how do you explain the mixed feelings behind our choice, or rather why the decision was not so simple for me or us?I looked at James, who was sitting at the kitchen table reading a newspaper, with his back toward us. His eyes glanced at mine for a split sec
James’s POVIt was something I had always prided myself on: knowing where I came from; understanding the legacy of my family. I thought I knew everything about our wealth, our power, the empire we had created; that little part of my life which I imagined was mine. But when I sat across the table from my mom, her hands shaking a little as she passed me an envelope with a strange, faded insignia ironed on it, I knew just how little knowledge I had.“James,” her voice wavering, she continued “I have to tell you something. The family history around how we came by our money, I guess.I frowned and focused on my breathing. “What do you mean, Mom?”After some delay, she opened the envelope and took out a few creased yellowing sheets of paper. “Of course, I never wanted you to know this but today feels like it could be time. You have to know the real story about your father, about what it took to build the Harden dynasty.I leaned in, heart racing. Decades of effort, well-placed investments,
