Chapter 2 Rachel's Boss

She gets in her apartment with Angus who hasn't left near her front door  grinning. "What a luck! This could be my day."  Seeing an opportunity to have Rachel ride in his car. He is already exploring the possibilities in his dirty mind.

Rachel immediately wash and change her clothes luckily the mud water didn't wet her hair, and shoes, was damp with the dripping water from her clothes. If she will move now she will be late for fifteen minutes, and she needs more luck this time  to lessen that time.

She walk out fo her apartment and still saw that face that ruin her day in the first place if she hadn't avoided him she will not be in this situation. 

"What do you say Rach ? Come on you are late already. Me and my car is at your service. " His grin make Rachel think that he has more than a ride in his mind. Will she take on the offer and save her dream job or take the ride in his car and suffer the consequences later.

Seeing her dilemma Angus laughed heartfully. 

"Ha ha ha!..."

Rachel's dilemna made her want to accept the offer. "Nothing will happen, I mean, I have undergone training in self-defense and in broad daylight I think Angus will not try anything funny." She told herself. " Are you out of your mind  Rachel? You are putting yourself in danger if you step on that car. Remember the times he tried to make a pass on you? Nothing will stand in his way if you're inside that car in his mercy. Kiss your new job goodbye either way you loose!" The other self chastise her. 

She  was about to replied when she heard a car horn blasted in her hearing. Relief awash her when she saw her ride  coming into view.

"No thanks Angus my ride is here." Angus wasn't able to do anything as he saw his opportunity gets into another car.

"What took yo you so long Phil?"  Rachel gladly ask her friend. 

"Whoah  aren't you glad to see me Rache?" Philemon her old friend from high school replied. 

"Oh, believe me I'm so glad that you have save me from making the biggest mistake of my life. Just curious, it's not your nature to kept your client waiting." She said kiddingly she always ask him for a ride when her car broke down. She was counting the amount to raise for a new car.

" Actually I was wondering if I'd still catch you. There was a vehicular accident before I reach here causing  terrible traffic. Why is your landlord son bothering you again? " He saw Angus talking to Rachel and she hastily take the ride into his car obviously avoiding Angus.

" There was never a time he isn't when he got the chance. I was worried you would not  come, so I was almost tempted to take him on his offer. " Phil shook his head.

" Rache whatever happens don't you ever step on board that man's car. I won't be able to forgive myself if something happens to you in that man's hands. Allyson would kill me if she learn that my tardiness cause you that. "

"Relax  Phil I was only tempted because I am late. Which comes to mind aren't you late for your work too? "

" I am but I already called work to let them know." 

" Good." but Rachel's mind drift to that handsome stranger whom she soiled the shirt in her desperation. Somehow she felt guilty for what she had done. If he had to go back from where he came from. He would be even more late than she is. Her thoughts left the handsome  stranger  as Phil chatter with his bubly personality taking away Rachel's worries about being late.

Phil bid her good luck as she step out of the car. She hurried to the receptionist and was advise to the conference room. She must go to the conference room for the final interview actually the receptionist told her it's just a formality because she came in with good results from her initial interview.

"Miss Barnes, your late!" Mister Eric Johnson the company's consultant on human resources, he is an attractive man who has a good nature and the employees feedback said that he is a very concentious boss maintain a good rapport with the employees and is the big boss bestfriend. 

"I'm sorry sir but my ride was caught in the traffic cause by a vehicular accident." She explained.

" Well I must say luck is in your side. Your boss is also late so we can run the things concerning your duties thoroughly before I present you to him. Shall we begin? " Rachel thanking her lucky star, that she was spared from the awkward first day at work for being late. After the briefing, Mr. Johnson lead her to the Twenty-fourth floor to meet her boss.

"This floor contains the boss office and his penthouse is on the next floor  up with the helipad at the  rooftop, he usually use the chopper when he inspect the sites, but he is not yet staying here because he is spending his time with his aunt and his penthouse is still being furnished."Mr Johnson explained.

They walk pass some cubicles Mr Johnson explained that they are the immediate employees that work closely with their boss The CEO and owner of the construction firm Mr. Colin Anderson. Rachel has to search in her memory where he heard that name. She was sure she heard that name before eventhough she was certain she had not seen his face .

They came to a corner with a table a computer and a set of baskets for incoming and outgoing papers a smiling older woman greet them and told them that the boss is in. 

Hi I am Maude, I'm Mr Anderson's secretary." The older woman said cheerfully. Rachel extend her hand in greetings, " Hi I'm Rachel Barnes." 

"Here we are." Mr Johnson made a soft knock and they heard a reply bidding them to enter.  When the door opened Rachel got the shocked of her life she immediately hid behind Mr Johnson's broad back. "Oh my God! What shall I do? I hope I am mistaken. My lucky star please help me. I should have read my horoscope for today to have myself ready for this." She thought to herself. 

" Eric come in where is my PA? I'm going for an inspection. I was late already there's this crazy woman who soiled my shirt and I have go back to change, it was a good thing that the traffic ease up when I return."Her Boss said 

"Have  you taken the name of that woman to report to the police or have you worked your charms on her?"  Mr Johnson tease his friend.

" I was about to but she run away fast, probably afraid of what she'd done." Rachel silently fumed with temper when she heard the exchanged if she was not in a hurry she faced that man any time. Who said she is afraid? But her resolved collapsed when Mr Johnson introduce her.

"Anyway  here's your Personal Assistant  Miss Rachel Barnes." Mr Johnson step aside for her to face her boss.

His initial reaction baffled her it seems he doesn't have recollection on his face of their earlier encounter. "Welcome to the company  Miss Barnes, I am looking forward on a fruitful relationship on us working together." He said smiling as he offered his hand. Rachel accept his handshake  she was thinking that maybe he doesn't recognized her but by the way he gripped her hand made her think otherwise. 

"Your hands are cold, Miss Barnes  and you've gone pale? Are you nervous or afraid?"  Rachel perspire even when the air conditioner on.
