Chapter 7

Scarlett Pov †

I groaned irritably before tossing to the other side in the bed.My mood is all grumpy because of not eating.A slight knock at the door made me growl.

"Scarlett it's me !" I instantly got off the bed and dragged my feets towards the door after hearing Herrick's voice.What brings him here?

"Herrick— I paused, seeing the tray of meal in his hands.He gave me a smile before brushing past me into my room.I shut the door behind and approached him.

"Thanks" I whispered before sitting comfortably.

"Alpha Lucian told me to bring you dinner so you can thank him if you want" He said before plopping himself on the bed.

"He can kiss my ass" I muttered in aggravation.Herrick burst out laughing at my comment.

"Don't say that to his face.Who knows if he would go for it" I smacked his chest before laughing along with him.

Lucian really send him just to make sure I eat.That's strange because him, caring about my health is unbelievable.Last time I checked, he was the reason I lost my appetite.But maybe it's all because he is alpha and I'm his guest.If that's the case then maybe I can take some revenge not because I want to satisfy myself but to make him realize how much it emotionally wrecks someone, at least I won't cross my limits like he always did.

"What are you thinking?" Herrick's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Lucian" I replied honestly, he stared at me for a couple of seconds, I could tell that he wants to say something but maybe contemplating with his thoughts.

"He doesn't looks as bad as you mentioned, I mean no offense Scarlett but maybe he has changed?" 

"It's easy for you to say Herrick, I have gone through all those shitty tortures and suddenly believing that he has changed is a hell load of a task for me.He is protective of us only because of his responsibility as Alpha" I speak my mind out.

"I understand your perspective" He whispered and give my hand a gentle squeeze.I smiled and begin eating my meal.Herrick and me tallet for hours and without realizing fell asleep.

My eyes fluttered open, something doesn't feels right.It's like I'm distressed and might explode.I checked the time and realized ,it's only 3 in the morning.I turned around and flinched before facepalming myself.Herrick is sleeping next to me peacefully.I guess we both fall asleep while talking.A sigh escape my lips but it turned into whimper.

What's wrong with me?My heart is beating unusually fast. I gasped while getting off the bed and stared at my reflection in the mirror.I still look pale but my body temperature is shifting from hot to cold.My eyes glowed for millisecond making me almost choke on my saliva.I don't even have my wolf ,then how is it possible?

Was it just a hallucination? I felt suffocated and walked out of my room to get some fresh air.

"Holy shit!" I exclaimed while placing my palm on my chest after seeing Lucian in the corridor in a black shirt and sweatpant, pacing back and forth as if something is stressing him out. He halted his steps and looked at me with such an emotion I couldn't describe for a minute.

To say he was in pain would be an understatement.It's easy to judge because of his expressions.His eyes roamed all over my body making me feel some sort of way.

The hell is wrong with me? I mentally scold myself.

I swear I see the relief flash in his eyes.

"Why are you awake?" He asked after a long awkward silence of us staring at each other.

"Why are YOU awake?" I asked, empathising the word 'you' .He shook his head before letting out a low chuckle.

"You are still the same" He whispered softly ,his soothing voice sent a wave of electricity down my spine while I was taken aback by his remark.

"Should say the same for you" I taunted ,his lips which curved upwards now turned into a thin line.

"I'm not" He hissed. I laughed mockingly before walking past him to the living room.He followed me which made me roll my eyes.I sat on the couch while he sat next to me.

"What do you want?" I spat coldly.He looked away with a pained expression but who cares? 

"Do you hate me?" He asked, to which I let out a sarcastic laugh.

"Do I have a reason to not?" He looked down at his hands.

"I'm sorry" He breathed out in a shaky voice.I raised an eyebrow at him and scoffed.

"Do hell with your sorry" I got up to leave but he grabbed my wrist.The hair on my skin rose while my heart skipped a beat.Something about his presence itself makes my body react weirdly and I couldn't seem to comprehend if it's pleasing or displeasing.

I yanked his hand away before shooting him a death glare.

"I'm truly sorry Scarlett...I know there's no going back in the past but all I could do is apologize.What I did was unforgivable— 

"Yes you are right.What you did is unforgivable and unforgettable so do not come with your fake act and do.not.dare.to.touch.me.again!" I raised my voice at the end.I don't care if I hurt his pride of an Alpha.He is one of them who hurt me in the worst way.I can never look at him the way his pack members do.I despise him for everything he has ever done to me.

I walked back to my room without looking back at him.He just ruined my mood.I groaned loudly before plopping on the bed which made Herrick stir in his sleep.He is a heavy sleeper so I just shrugged it off and fell asleep.

Herrick woke up and stretched his arms before getting off the bed and walked towards the door.He stepped out of Scarlett's room only to halt his steps after noticing David in the corridor.He glared at Herrick with fury, his eyes turned pitch black because his wolf became possessive.Herrick's scent was mixed with Scarlett which made him even more mad.His wolf did not like the fact that their mate was with a she-wolf.

Herrick cleared his throat before greeting him a morning wish but David ignored him and walked straight to Lucian's room, slamming the door shut.Herrick let out a sigh and stared at the close door of Lucian's room before making his way to his respective room to fresh up.

While Herrick was brushing his hair ,the door of his room slammed open and David walked in with an expressionless face.Herrick thought he was here to call him for breakfast but the male kept staring at him which made him shift uncomfortably from one step to another.

"Should I move your luggage to Scarlett's room?" David  exclaimed in distaste.Herrick let out a 'huh' in confusion.David scoffed before rolling his eyes.

"Didn't know that you are not only weak unranked wolf but deaf as well" 

Herrick's heart sank at his words.The bitterness in David's voice didn't go unnoticed by him which made his wolf whimper.

"I don't think that you need this room since you usually stay in Scarlett's room even at night" 

"Stop it Beta David! Think twice before speaking " Herrick growled.

"Why are you so pressed? Did you both perhaps do something you should be ashamed of?" Herrickk growled out in pure rage before slamming David on the nearby wall.

"Whatever I do should not concern you and it would be better for you if you keep these false accusations to yourself!" Herrick said through gritted teeth but it angered David even more, he pushed Herrick with his all almighty.The impact caused Herrick to fall backwards.His back came in contact with the closet making him wince as the mirror's pieces sink in his skin.

David's eyes widened at what he just did to his mate.He rushed to help him but halted his steps hearing a loud threatening growl coming from Herrick.

"Stay the fuck away from me !" Herrick yelled before getting back on his feet and throwing him a death glare.David opened his mouth to speak but shut it immediately after hearing fast footsteps.

Lucian entered the room and scanned the surroundings before making his way towards Herrick.

"Who did this?" Lucian asked, concerned but followed Herrick's piercing glare which was at David who looked down.

"David leave!" Lucian ordered leaving no room for an argument.David left the room not forgetting to take a last glance at Herrick with guilt.

"It's healing, do not worry" Herrick said, earning a nod from Lucian.

"Herrick, I apologise for the way I behaved yesterday.Logan told me everything and I'll make sure your identity will stay hidden.Also about my Beta—

"Tell him to stay away from me" Herrick cut him off before grabbing a shirt and entered the bathroom leaving Lucian in his own thoughts.He didn't understand the reason behind David's behavior towards Herrick.
