Chapter 5

Scarlett's pov †

"Herrick if next time someone glares at you then I would suggest you to glare back instead of letting them intimidate you" I said while looking at my reflection in the lake.I indeed look pale probably because of not having a good sleep.

"So you're telling me to give Beta David a death glare?" He asked sarcastically.

"Are you scared of him? C'mon you have me ,Alpha Logan and Beta Marcus" I reasoned confidently.He laughed as if I cracked a hilarious joke.

"Scarlett, your sentence indirectly states that you want a battle between Crystal Moon and Red Moon Pack" I stayed quiet.I didn't mean that but if I repeat my words then it kinda sounds like I'm provoking him for a fight.

"Forget it" I murmured.

We both were chilling and enjoying each other's company until a strong scent of rogues hit our nostrils.We shared an eye contact before standing up and scanning our surroundings.

"Stay behind" Herrick whispered while extending his arm to keep me behind him.We could have run back to the Pack House only if we had a chance but four rogues in total blocked our way.

Drools dripped from their mouths as they let out loud growls which disgusted me.I guess they were running for so long considering their loud rapid heartbeats and heavy breathing.

I looked at Herrick thinking he would shift but he just stared at the rogues.

Isn't he supposed to shift? I can fight the rogues but they are literally four, at least I need a companion..

They all attacked at once but before they could reach us two wolves jumped in front of us and attacked them, making me and Herrick step back in an instant.

Rogues weren't just four because I see few more coming towards us.They all attacked those two wolves who were protecting us.

I gasped and stepped forward not noticing a rogue in position to attack us but before they could even touch me a big black wolf came in front and slit his throat in a second making my eyes widen.

It's Lucian...I could sense his strong Alpha scent.His wolf is larger than others which radiates power and authority.For a couple of seconds, I find my stomach tingling despite the situation we are in.This is so weird.

His warriors and Beta surrounded us in a circle as a shield while I gawked at Lucian who killed the rest of the rogues in a couple of minutes.To say I'm dazed would be an understatement.His glowing eyes filled with rage met mine and I noticed a sign of relief behind them.To think he was worried, makes me feel guilty for wandering into the woods despite knowing the situation going through the Packs.

We are in his territory and if something happens to us then he would be called responsible for it.Besides it ,the disappointment, regret and guilt will stay forever in his heart.We are his responsibility so his anger is obvious which is not only towards us and rogues but him as well.

He went behind the tree to shift back into his human form and came out in a sleeveless loose grey t-shirt matching with trouser.His arm muscles in clear view, flexed as he walked towards us and clenched his fist.His muscles are no joke and I noticed it just now.The way his viens were popping with his each step as he clenched and unclenched his fist, the things those hands could do.My mind wavering to some different thoughts which I shrugged it off immediately as if I tasted a drop of poison. What the hell am I even thinking?

"Everyone is restricted to go deeper into the woods especially at this hour yet you both decided to risk your lives" His deep and stern voice send a shiver down my spine yet I find myself looking into his infruitated eyes without feeling an ounce of fear.I still couldn't get over the fact that I'm able to maintain an intense eye contact with Alpha who every common wolves fear.

"Why didn't you shift?" His voice became harsher and I watched how everyone flinched.I followed his gaze and realized his piercing gaze is on Herrick.

Why didn't he shift? I'm confused as well because every wolf shifts sensing the danger.I have never seen Herrick's wolf but for a fact I know he can shift because Alpha Logan trained him separately.I have even seen him coming from the woods every night concluding he went for a run. 

Something about him not shifting at the very obvious situation perplexed me but I know he was ready to fight the rogues.Is he hiding something? 

"You should not be so careless Herrick and if you can't— 

I could sense the uneasiness lingering around Herrick so I decided to step in before Lucian says something hurtful to Herrick.

"It's not his fault.If anyone who is careless then it's me.Stop scolding him" My voice came out stern which is out of habit.I can't let the blame on him when I dragged him with me in the first place.If something I can't bear is the innocents getting blamed in my presence for something they never did.

"Lucian, we should head back to the Pack House" I turned my attention towards Alpha Logan who glanced at Herrick then back at Lucian.Why does it feel like Alpha is aware of the reason why Herrick never shows his wolf.

"Dismiss" I averted my gaze at Lucian who looked furious but he looked away.Of course, he must be pissed to hear someone else ordering him.I caressed Herrick's arm to make him feel a little less worried.I'm sure he must be feeling bad.

We came back to the Pack House and a tall girl with short blonde hair, jet black eyes and tan skin who I assume as Omega escorted us to our respective rooms.I stayed in the room where Herrick is supposed to stay.I heaved out a sigh after the girl left.

"Are you okay?" I asked him but he remained silent.

"Herrick, I know you would've protect me at all cost.Please don't think otherwise" 

"Are you not curious to know why I didn't shift?" He asked before walking towards the bed to unpack his luggage.

"To be honest, I am but I won't push you for something you don't want to share.Just do know that I trust you" 

"Thanks for always being so understanding.You should take some rest" I nodded at him and left his room.

It's already past 6 in the evening, I walked in the direction of my room but my steps came to a halt after realizing my room is opposite to Lucian's room.Couldn't they give me some other room? 

I walked inside my room and plopped on the mattress feeling tired.This isn't bad though, my luggage is already near the dresser and window is left open which I don't mind.Grey colored wall with a slight brownish shade gives my room a mysterious vibe which I really like.I turned around and my eyes almost popped out of my socket witnessing the scene unfold in the opposite room since the door was left open.

Lucian sitting on the couch manspreading, his eyes shut close with ceased brows and a visible frown on his forehead.He looks stressed but oh boy I was wrong when I noticed another figure walking towards him, Emy his so called girlfriend.

Not wanting to see further ,I got up and slammed the door shut.So I was right, they are still dating.I pity their mates who must be dreaming to have a future with them only to find out they are disloyal.

I unzipped my bag and grabbed a pair of PJs along with a towel before entering the bathroom to take a shower.I feel like punching someone and why? I'm confused and frustrated at the sudden change of my mood.

Moon Goddess knows what they must be upto.Why do I feel so disturbed? I closed my eyes and stepped into the shower which somehow helped me relax.

I don't remember for how long I was in my room reading a novel which I brought with me to prevent myself from dying out of boredom.A knock was heard at my door then the same blonde girl who helped me earlier appeared.

"Dinner is ready" She said softly and smiled.

"Hey, what's your name?" I asked because she is usually the one to whom we can ask for essentials.

"Sana" She informed with a soft smile.

I nodded and she left.She came at the right time, I am starving.I got off the bed and dusted the non-existent dust off my clothes and opened the door only to see Lucian who also freeze for a second.He cleared his throat and shut his door before heading off to the dinner area.I rolled my eyes and shut the door of my room.Is his girlfriend also joining us? I might end up giving her a black eye.

I walked downstairs and almost forgot where the dining area was if it wasn't for familiar scents.

I smiled after seeing Herrick already seated but it faded realising the only seat which is left is next to Lucian.I literally want to stay far away from him and look at my fate? My room opposite to his, my seat next to his, Moon Goddess why can't you just let me find my mate so I could live with him happily even though I have doubts if it would ever be possible.

I make myself comfortable while everyone's attention is fixed on me.I give them a 'what?' look and they diverted their attention.If I hate something the most then it's unwanted attention.To be honest I hate everything about this Pack.

Dinner was already served and everyone started digging their meal but it was very awkward.Only source of sound I could hear is the clicking of utensils.If I had my wolf then I would be able to hear their heartbeats but it could be annoying at times so I'm better off without it.

Charles and his son John kept exchanging looks while David had his eyes fixed on his plate.Herrick is awfully quiet which is very unusual of him and me.It would've been better if we had our dinner in my room or his.

Lucian, who I didn't even take a glance at, munched on his food quietly but I could feel his gaze on me from time to time.First ,this silence and then his stare.It annoyed me.

"Stop staring" I looked dead into his eyes.My voice devoid of any emotion as usual.Everytime I look into someone's eyes ,they look away not able to maintain eye contact but there he is the Alpha who wouldn't even blink.

I am this close to snap at him but his eyes glow yellow and he looked away.So his wolf is ready to fight me.He won't hesitate to do it but I guess he is stopping himself because of the promise he gave to Alpha Logan.

This is the reason why I never wanted to come back.Every single person here only looks at me with hatred.I'm sick of getting these looks since childhood.

I left the dining area not having an appetite.
