After hanging up with Daniel Farrington, my boss, I stared at the video and lit a cigarette. It had been five years since I last smoked.

My hands trembled as I clicked on Mia Lawson’s profile.

It felt like I was punishing myself as I kept scrolling. I found out that my fiance, Caleb Alton, had been cheating on me for two years.

In the past two years, he had stood me up countless times. It was always to be with Mia, his junior colleague.

Even yesterday, on our anniversary, he suddenly told me he had to work late and would not be home.

The truth was that he was at a hotel filming romantic videos with Mia.

By the time Caleb got home, I had finished my cigarette.

He reeked of alcohol as he walked right past me. He frowned when he saw the cigarette butt.

“Why are you smoking again? Didn’t you say smoking makes you age faster?”

I said without hesitation, “Work has been stressful.”

Caleb muttered, “Oh.”

He then lay down on the bed, fully dressed.

A moment later, he noticed that I did not go over to him like I usually did.

He was about to say something, but I interrupted him, “I still have work to do. You should get some rest.”

Caleb did not think much of it. He mumbled a few words and quickly fell asleep.

I picked up my laptop and walked into the study. Just then, I received the contract from Daniel.

I opened the file and signed it right away.

The next morning, Caleb surprised me by waking up early to make a heart-shaped toast.

When I sat down, he handed me a handmade shell bracelet.

“Happy anniversary! I made this myself.”

I was stunned. Then, I remembered seeing Mia’s post on opening a handmade shop last night.

This bracelet was part of the clearance sale and was probably sold at a discount for five to ten dollars.

I could not help but laugh at how he was trying so hard to please me.

“We’ve been together for five years. Don’t you know I’m allergic to metal?” I said as I looked at the metal clasp.

Caleb looked surprised. A flicker of guilt flashed across his face.

But he quickly composed himself and said, “I’ll take note of that next time.”

I smiled softly. I quietly ate breakfast as I waited for him to speak.

In the past, whenever Caleb wanted something from me, he would make breakfast to win me over.

It had become an unspoken understanding between us.

But today, when he noticed my indifference and saw that I did not seem to continue the conversation, he got fidgety.

He pressed his lips together and said, “Can you save a booth for me at the craft competition? I have a friend who needs it.”

After that, he casually began replying to messages on his phone as he assumed that I would not refuse him.

As the event’s main organizer, it was easy for me to secure a spot.

But I recalled that neither he nor his friends cared much about crafts.

I felt uneasy and suspected that this was for Mia.

Without thinking, I blurted out, “Which friend?”

Caleb turned away and looked a little guilty.

“My junior,” he said.

At that moment, I received a WhatsApp message from my assistant, Emily Stone.

She had forwarded a message to me.

[Hello, Mia Lawson here. The owner of Mia’s Craft Corner.]

That evening, Caleb walked into the bedroom after his shower. He looked at me and tried to act casual. He said, “Sorry, I was in a rush today. “Did you pick out a ring? I can take you back there to buy it tomorrow.” “No need.” I did not need him to buy me a ring anymore. Somehow, my response made Caleb angry. He looked at me coldly. “Serena, why are you acting so cold toward me? I’m not refusing to buy it for you, am I? “You’re not young anymore. Stop throwing a fit like a child.” “Oh, so you’re saying I’m old?” I clenched my fist and interrupted him as I looked up. Caleb froze. A look of regret flashed on his face. “Serena… I didn’t mean it like that.” I understood what he meant. I did not want to argue with him over this. I took out the ring he had custom-ordered and said, “Didn’t you see the secondary card transaction? I already bought one. “Oh, and I also picked up the ring you customized as well.” When Caleb saw the box, his face turned pale. I look

This was my first time meeting Mia in person. She was indeed young and beautiful. I could not help but notice the wedding ring she was fiddling with on her finger. I was not sure if she was doing that on purpose. Caleb said, “Serena, today is also Mia’s birthday. “She wanted to celebrate with us. You don’t mind, right?” I was about to say that I did not mind when the door suddenly swung open. Caleb’s friends walked in with a cake while singing a birthday song. “Happy birthday, Mia!” they said as they popped the confetti. They then noticed me and Caleb. One of them asked curiously, “Caleb, who’s this?” Caleb looked bewildered. “Why are you guys here?” “We came to support you, Caleb. You’re celebrating your girlfriend’s birthday and proposing to her, right?” As soon as they said that, Caleb’s face turned pale. He glanced at me uncertainly. “Serena, please don’t misunderstand. They must have gotten it wrong...” I waved my hand to say that it was fine. Caleb just st

After a few hours, I arrived at my destination in the middle of the night. I saw my old colleague, Clarissa Shaw. She had been waiting for me. “Serena, over here!” she called out and waved to me. After hugging me, she teased me for leaving her to work here all alone. “You finally decided to come work with me at the branch! I’ve missed you so much!” She then congratulated me on breaking up with Caleb. She said she would introduce me to a new boyfriend. “You finally did it! I’ll introduce you to some great guys tonight. “There are plenty of good men here. Stick with me, and you’ll be just fine!” I could not help but laugh at Clarissa’s way of cheering me up. I smiled and said, “Alright.” I settled into the branch office and stayed with Clarissa in her big apartment. Just like she promised, she brought me to a bar and called over a few attractive and charming guys. When we arrived, the man in charge of the group introduced himself solemnly. “Hey, I’m Victor, Clarissa’s

I put thoughts of Caleb aside and focused on my work. Over the next two weeks, Clarissa was a great help. I made quick progress. I quickly adapted to the pace of the new branch and started managing projects independently. One day, Clarissa asked me to accompany her to the airport to pick up some clients. That was when I unexpectedly ran into Caleb. As soon as he saw me, he rushed over and grabbed my arm. “Serena, I finally found you! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!” I looked at him. I was startled by his sudden appearance. Still, I said firmly, “We’re already over.” Hearing that, he became visibly agitated. He sneered and clenched his fists. “Serena, I didn’t agree to the breakup! “How can you just leave me like that? You’re so heartless! “You promised you’d never leave me. How can you break your promise?” I stared at him in disbelief. Had he completely lost his mind? I felt a little sorry for him. I was amazed that he could be so shameless. I yanked

That night, I saw Caleb downstairs in the neighborhood. His face was bruised, and he looked sad and pitiful. After being yelled at earlier, he no longer dared to act arrogantly. “Serena, I’ve missed the food you used to make when you were with me,” he said. “I’m even planning to request a transfer to the branch office here.” He cautiously tried to hold my hand. “Serena, please, give me one more chance.” When he mentioned the food I used to make, I stared at my hands. I recalled the time when Caleb had called me suddenly last month and asked for glazed ribs. At that time, I was at the hospital getting an IV because of stomach pain. Despite feeling really unwell, I endured the discomfort and went to buy some ribs to cook for him. I even packed and took his lunch to his office but fainted on the way home. Later, I found out from Mia’s social media that it was all a bet. She wanted to see how far I would go for Caleb. When she saw me neglecting my health for him

No one even remembered asking Victor for his answer for the Truth or Dare game, but he walked over to me. “Serena, don’t you want to know my answer?” I took the drink he handed to me. I thought about what Clarissa had said and nodded. He looked into my eyes and pointed at me. I was so shocked that I almost choked on the drink, and it sprayed out of my mouth. “So, you... ugh... I—” He handed me a tissue and said, “Serena, I like you.” I was caught off guard by his sudden confession. I quickly said, “Your sister’s calling me. I’ve got to go.” Then, I ran away.
