Dominic shook with rage. “It was your people who broke into my home and kidnapped my entire family! Who else could it be? Don’t try to shift the blame!”

Frederick shrugged. “You’re supposed to be the state governor. With all the schemes and plots you usually think up, can't you see that this is a trap set by someone else? Why would I want to kill your family? What’s my motive? If I wanted to control you, I’d just kidnap your family.”

He then added carefully, “If I wanted to deal with you, I could have killed you already! Why go the long way around?”

Dominic was momentarily stunned. Frederick’s reasoning seemed to make some sense.
