Not that even if she told him what Elena came here to say he’d believe her. She looked to him in the eye and she felt like a criminal.

She just walked out of him to her room.

The Next Day

Carmela sat alone in the massive dining room, her untouched plate of food before her. The early morning sun filtered through the tall windows, casting a golden glow across the table, but it brought no warmth. Not to her.

The events of the previous day weighed heavily on her chest. Damion’s cold, accusing gaze. His cutting words. And, most of all, the realization that nothing she said or did would make him believe her.

He doesn’t trust me. He never will.

Even if she told him the truth—that they had been together that night before their wedding—he would accuse her of lying. His disbelief would crush her more than his accusations ever could.

She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to stave off the chill that seemed to settle deep in her bones. She felt like a stranger in her own life.

THE BLAKES MANSIONCarmela sat on the edge of her childhood bed, staring blankly at the familiar pale blue walls. The house smelled the same—faintly of lavender and fresh linen—but nothing about being home felt comforting. Not when her life had unraveled so spectacularly in the span of a single day.Her mother had tried to console her, but the weight of disappointment in her father’s eyes lingered, and her chest ached from it. Now, the silence of her room felt deafening. The door creaked open, and Lily stepped inside, her arms crossed and her brow furrowed.“Carmela,” she started, her voice sharp, “what the hell happened?”Carmela’s lips trembled. “I messed up.”“Messed up?” Lily closed the door behind her and sat down on the bed. “That’s putting it lightly, don’t you think? Damion threw you out. Pregnant. And let’s not forget, he’s the father.”“Keep your voice down,” Carmela whispered, her face crumpling.“Why?” Lily snapped. “You should’ve told him the truth!”Carmela flinched, her

The moment Damion stepped out of the department, the tension in the room shifted. Mr. Graves, who had been shaking just seconds ago, now turned his fury toward Carmela.“You,” he hissed, his face red with anger as he loomed over her desk. “What the hell have you done now?”Carmela flinched, her hands clutching the edge of her chair. “I—I didn’t do anything.”“Didn’t do anything?” Graves spat, his voice low but venomous. “Do you have any idea what you’ve caused? Do you think Mr. Blackwood comes down here every day? He came because of you! Do you enjoy embarrassing me in front of the CEO?”“I didn’t mean to—” she started, but he cut her off with a sharp gesture.“Save it,” he snapped. “You’re lucky I’m not throwing you out of this building myself. If you screw up one more time, Blake, you’re gone. Do you hear me? Gone.”Carmela nodded quickly, her throat tightening with unshed tears. Before Graves could continue his tirade, a voice interrupted them.“Ms. Blake.”She turned to see one of

Carmela sat stiffly in the chair, her hands clasped tightly in her lap as Damion stared at her from across the desk. His cold, unreadable gaze pinned her in place, making her feel small and exposed. He leaned back in his chair, reaching into a drawer before pulling out a stack of papers. Without a word, he placed them on the desk and slid them toward her.Her eyes flicked to the papers, her breath catching as she read the bold words at the top.DIVORCE AGREEMENT.Her heart dropped.“Sign it,” Damion said, his voice devoid of emotion.Carmela’s head snapped up, her wide, tear-filled eyes meeting his. “What? Damion, I don’t—”“You heard me,” he interrupted, his tone sharp. “Sign the papers, Carmela. This… whatever this is, ends now.”“For Fuck SAKE! We’re in a work place.” Tears stung her eyes as she shook her head. “Why? Why are you doing this?”He leaned forward, his elbows resting on the desk as he fixed her with a hard stare. “Why?” he repeated, his voice low and cutting. “You mean

The meeting had dragged longer than Damion anticipated, but his focus had been far from the agenda. His mind had been consumed with thoughts of Carmela—her tear-streaked face, her trembling voice as she insisted the child was his, and the look of utter devastation when he handed her the divorce papers. He hated how she had gotten under his skin, but more than that, he hated how the memory of her boss’s treatment earlier made his blood boil. He wanted to fire the man on the spot, but doing so would raise questions he wasn’t ready to answer. As the meeting concluded, he loosened his tie, his thoughts circling back to Carmela. His feet moved on their own as he made his way to the elevator, heading toward her department. When the doors opened to the lower levels, Damion stepped out and scanned the floor. The atmosphere was busy but tense, a reflection of the rigid leadership under Mr. Graves. Damion kept to the shadows, moving along the hall until he spotted her.Carmela stood by the prin

Lily came rushing across the crosswalk, her face pale with panic as she dropped to her knees beside Carmela.“Carmela!” she exclaimed, gripping her shoulders. “Are you alright? What the hell just happened?”Carmela, still shaken, nodded weakly, her legs trembling as she tried to stand. “I… I’m fine,” she murmured, though her voice betrayed the fear still gripping her.“Fine?” Lily’s voice rose. “You were almost hit by a car! You’re shaking like a leaf—”Before Lily could continue, Damion’s voice cut through the chaos like a blade.“What were you thinking?” he snapped, his sharp gray eyes locked on Carmela. “Were you not paying attention? Didn’t you see the car coming?”His voice, cold and commanding, jolted her out of her daze. She turned to him, anger flaring in her chest.“What about you?” she shot back, her voice louder than she intended. “Did you see me? Or were you too busy rushing to wherever you were going?”Damion’s jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing. But before he could respon

The silence that fell over the table was deafening. All eyes were fixed on Damion as he stood towering behind Carmela, his presence consuming the space with an oppressive weight.Jason, the colleague who had been flirting just moments ago, shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “M-Mr. Blackwood,” he stammered, his voice trembling.Without a word, Damion reached forward, gripping the back of Jason’s chair and pulling it back abruptly. Jason barely had time to stand before Damion sank into the seat, now directly across from Carmela. Her heart raced, her pulse thrumming in her ears as she locked eyes with him. His expression was unreadable, but the sharp intensity in his gaze sent a shiver down her spine.“Don’t mind me,” Damion said coolly, leaning back in the chair and crossing his arms. “Continue with whatever you were doing.”The tension was palpable, the air so thick it was hard to breathe.Lily, ever the bold one, cleared her throat and plastered on a nervous smile. “Well, we were abou

The table fell silent as Carmela’s hand slammed down, the glass teetering on the edge before tipping over and spilling its contents across the polished wood.“Carmela!” Lily exclaimed, grabbing a napkin and hurriedly trying to clean the spreading alcohol. But Carmela didn’t move. Her eyes were locked on Damion, her expression tight with anger and frustration.Damion’s hand lingered on hers for just a second longer before he let go, his gaze steady and unreadable.“What do you want from me?” Carmela’s voice trembled, not with fear but with suppressed rage. The group shifted uncomfortably, sensing the growing tension but unsure how to intervene.Lily, always one to protect her friend, nudged Carmela’s arm and whispered, “Carmela, don’t do this.”But it was too late. Carmela pushed back her chair abruptly, the sound grating against the floor, and stood. Without another word, she stormed off toward the bathroom, leaving behind a trail of uneasy silence.Inside the bathroom, Carmela grippe

Damion sat stiffly in the backseat of the car, his fists clenched tightly on his lap. His hair, usually neatly styled, was disheveled, a testament to his frustration. He had left the café in a rush, his chest tight with an anger he couldn’t explain. His knuckles still ached from the punch he had thrown at the seat in front of him earlier, but the physical pain paled in comparison to the storm raging inside him.“Sir?” the driver asked hesitantly, glancing at him in the rearview mirror.Damion sighed, wiping at his lips with the back of his hand as though to rid himself of the lingering taste of alcohol. His sharp gray eyes focused out the window, where the café lights spilled into the dark street.“Where to, sir?” the driver asked again. Before Damion could answer, his phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with a text.Elena: Where are you? I have a surprise for you. Come over.Damion stared at the message for a moment before exhaling sharply. “Take me to Elena’s house,” he said curtly

Leonard’s voice was steady as he spoke, “Carmela, we’ll find him. We’re following every lead, every signal. But right now, we must let the police handle Elena. They’re tracking her down, and from what I’ve heard, she’s already killed two officers. It appears someone is shielding her—someone with power, someone who wants to keep her actions hidden.”Carmela’s eyes widened in shock, “Killed two officers? Who could possibly protect someone like that?”Leonard shook his head, “We don’t know yet. But it’s clear that Elena is not acting alone. We must assume there’s a network behind her—an organization or perhaps even a faction within the Blackwood legacy that has its own agenda.”The gravity of Leonard’s words sank into Carmela like a stone. “Then why wasn’t I told any of this before? I deserve to know the truth!”Lucas scowled. “Because sometimes, the truth is too dangerous to reveal until it’s absolutely necessary. We’re all in the dark right now.”Carmela’s voice trembled with bitter re

The night had deepened into a nearly impenetrable darkness by the time the sirens began to wail outside the hospital’s perimeter. Rain fell in a fine, persistent drizzle, blurring the neon reflections on slick pavement and turning the air cold and heavy. Inside the hospital, however, the atmosphere was even heavier—a mingling of grief, dread, and a desperate need for answers. The news that Elena had attempted to harm Damion’s unconscious body, that she had already killed two police officers during her frantic escape, had set off a chain of events none of them could have foreseen. Now, as the police closed in, the night was rapidly becoming a maelstrom of chaos and betrayal.Carmela sat in a quiet, dimly lit room off the main corridor, her tear-streaked face illuminated only by the soft glow of a desk lamp. Her parents had been sent home, unable to face the gruesome revelations of the past hours. Only Lily remained by her side—a constant, albeit fragile, pillar of support—and Leonar

Adrian’s eyes shimmered with an emotion he rarely allowed himself to show. “I never wanted to hide, Carmela. I never wanted to keep the truth from you. But fate is cruel, and the curse has twisted our lives beyond repair. I promise you—I will do everything in my power to make it right. Just hold on a little longer.”The intensity in his voice, the raw vulnerability in his eyes, stirred something deep within Carmela. With a shaky cry, she nodded, “I’ll wait. I’ll wait as long as it takes.”A heavy silence fell once more as Adrian turned toward the door. “I’m leaving now,” he announced. “I must retrieve the key and set things right. My men will accompany me, and I will return with answers. Until then, do not lose hope.”With that, he stepped away from Carmela, his expression resolute yet haunted. His loyal aides gathered around him, and together they left the hospital, disappearing into the murky light of early morning.⸻Meanwhile, Inside the HospitalThe corridors were quiet after Adr

Adrian stepped closer, his presence magnetic and conflicted. “I never wanted to hide. I never wanted to be a secret—an abomination lurking in the shadows of our family’s disgrace. But the curse forced my hand. I would do what I think is necessary to protect our legacy, even if it meant sacrificing my own freedom.”Lucas, still standing by the doorway, glared at him. “Your protection came at the cost of Damion’s sanity, and now you expect us to accept that you’re going to fix everything with some magical key?”Adrian’s eyes flashed with bitter determination. “I know it sounds impossible. But I have to try. Every moment we delay is another moment lost. I’ll leave the hospital now with my men to retrieve the key and bring it back to its rightful place. Only then can we begin to reverse this cursed cycle.”Carmela’s voice broke through, laden with both despair and defiance. “So you’re saying that until the key is returned, Damion is… gone?”“I am here,” Adrian’s gaze dropped momentarily,

The hospital smelled of antiseptic and lingering fear. It had been hours since they’d found Damion—his body, at least—wandering aimlessly in the forest, his clothes tattered, his face hollow. His eyes had been vacant, unseeing, like a man whose mind had been completely shattered. It had taken three of Adrian’s men to restrain him, to drag him out of the depths of the wilderness before he could disappear forever. Now, he lay in a hospital bed, bound by restraints, machines beeping softly beside him, his unconscious form barely clinging to reality. The sterile hum of fluorescent lights and the rhythmic beep of heart monitors filled the hospital ward as Damion lay on a bed that, though pristine white, now seemed unbearably cold. His body—though it looked human to the untrained eye—moved with the mechanical precision of someone not fully in control of his own being. For hours, the doctors had worked tirelessly to stabilize him after his frantic escape from the cursed forest, but his con

As the day wore on, the search party dispersed once more into the depths of the forest, determined to follow every lead. Carmela, though heartbroken, refused to stay behind. With trembling determination, she joined one of the smaller teams, her eyes scanning every inch of the undergrowth for any sign of Damion. Every distant sound, every flicker of movement, sent her heart racing.Hours passed in grueling silence. The forest, ancient and indifferent, seemed to watch them with hidden eyes. The sun sank lower, painting the sky with bruised shades of purple and gold, while the cool night air crept in. The tension was thick, as if the very trees were whispering secrets of cursed destinies and lost souls. Then, just as darkness began to cloak the woods, Leonard’s voice came crackling over the radio. “Lucas, we have a positive signal near the northern ridge. It’s faint, but it’s there. We’re moving in.”Lucas’s tone was resolute. “Team Delta, converge on the ridge immediately. Carmela, sta

After another agonizing hour with no clear lead, Leonard’s radio buzzed with urgent static. “Lucas, you need to get back. There’s been an incident at the hospital.”Lucas’s expression darkened. “What kind of incident?”Leonard hesitated before replying, “They’ve reported that Damion’s body is still missing from the hospital. There’s no record of him being brought in for surgery. It’s as if he never existed.”“And we know whys that, right?” Carmela’s heart pounded in her ears. “So what does this mean anyways? That he’s truly gone…” she whispered, her voice trembling.Lucas clenched his jaw, forcing himself to focus. “Not gone. We have to assume he’s out there somewhere, even if his mind is fractured. We can’t give up now.”Catherine, who had remained quiet until now, stepped forward slowly. “My dear, listen,” she said softly, her tone full of sorrow. “Our family’s curse has been at work for centuries. The key, the power it holds—this isn’t just about wealth or authority. It’s a burden,

Carmela’s heart raced as she followed Lucas along the narrow, muddy trail that led deeper into the forest. Every sound seemed amplified—the crunch of dry leaves underfoot, the distant call of a bird, the soft murmur of the creek ahead. As they reached the creek, Lucas signaled for everyone to stop. He knelt down, examining a small, portable device that was picking up the signal. “It’s here,” he said, voice quiet but firm. “I can feel it.”Carmela’s eyes filled with tears as she clutched the cufflink, the only tangible remnant of Damion’s presence. “Lucas, please,” she whispered. “Just… find him.”Lucas nodded, his expression serious. “We will.”Leonard joined them, his face etched with worry. “This is a critical point,” he murmured. “If Adrian’s out there, he might be close. But be cautious. The tracker is erratic, and this area is known for its treacherous terrain.”The three of them moved slowly, the forest around them eerily quiet now, as if nature itself were holding its breath. C

The forest seemed to hold its breath as the search party crept toward the indicated spot. Carmela’s mind was a jumble of emotions—grief, fear, anger, and hope—intertwined into a desperate plea for her lost love.Every rustle, every shifting shadow set her nerves on edge. Finally, a figure emerged from behind a cluster of trees. Carmela’s heart nearly stopped. It was a man. Not Damion—he looked different.Lucas’s radio crackled: “Visual confirmed. Unidentified subject in sector.”Carmela squinted into the dim light. The man’s face was hidden beneath a hood, his features obscured by shadow. For a moment, she thought it was Damion, but something was off—there was an eerie stillness in his step, a vacant look in his eyes.“Damion? I mean, Adrian? Is that you?” she whispered, reaching out instinctively, but the man moved away, disappearing into the trees.Lucas’s voice came over the radio, “No visual confirmation of Damion yet. Continue the search.”Carmela sank to the ground, tears stream
