The meeting had dragged longer than Damion anticipated, but his focus had been far from the agenda. His mind had been consumed with thoughts of Carmela—her tear-streaked face, her trembling voice as she insisted the child was his, and the look of utter devastation when he handed her the divorce papers.

He hated how she had gotten under his skin, but more than that, he hated how the memory of her boss’s treatment earlier made his blood boil. He wanted to fire the man on the spot, but doing so would raise questions he wasn’t ready to answer.

As the meeting concluded, he loosened his tie, his thoughts circling back to Carmela. His feet moved on their own as he made his way to the elevator, heading toward her department.

When the doors opened to the lower levels, Damion stepped out and scanned the floor. The atmosphere was busy but tense, a reflection of the rigid leadership under Mr. Graves. Damion kept to the shadows, moving along the hall until he spotted her.

Lily came rushing across the crosswalk, her face pale with panic as she dropped to her knees beside Carmela.“Carmela!” she exclaimed, gripping her shoulders. “Are you alright? What the hell just happened?”Carmela, still shaken, nodded weakly, her legs trembling as she tried to stand. “I… I’m fine,” she murmured, though her voice betrayed the fear still gripping her.“Fine?” Lily’s voice rose. “You were almost hit by a car! You’re shaking like a leaf—”Before Lily could continue, Damion’s voice cut through the chaos like a blade.“What were you thinking?” he snapped, his sharp gray eyes locked on Carmela. “Were you not paying attention? Didn’t you see the car coming?”His voice, cold and commanding, jolted her out of her daze. She turned to him, anger flaring in her chest.“What about you?” she shot back, her voice louder than she intended. “Did you see me? Or were you too busy rushing to wherever you were going?”Damion’s jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing. But before he could respon

The silence that fell over the table was deafening. All eyes were fixed on Damion as he stood towering behind Carmela, his presence consuming the space with an oppressive weight.Jason, the colleague who had been flirting just moments ago, shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “M-Mr. Blackwood,” he stammered, his voice trembling.Without a word, Damion reached forward, gripping the back of Jason’s chair and pulling it back abruptly. Jason barely had time to stand before Damion sank into the seat, now directly across from Carmela. Her heart raced, her pulse thrumming in her ears as she locked eyes with him. His expression was unreadable, but the sharp intensity in his gaze sent a shiver down her spine.“Don’t mind me,” Damion said coolly, leaning back in the chair and crossing his arms. “Continue with whatever you were doing.”The tension was palpable, the air so thick it was hard to breathe.Lily, ever the bold one, cleared her throat and plastered on a nervous smile. “Well, we were abou

The table fell silent as Carmela’s hand slammed down, the glass teetering on the edge before tipping over and spilling its contents across the polished wood.“Carmela!” Lily exclaimed, grabbing a napkin and hurriedly trying to clean the spreading alcohol. But Carmela didn’t move. Her eyes were locked on Damion, her expression tight with anger and frustration.Damion’s hand lingered on hers for just a second longer before he let go, his gaze steady and unreadable.“What do you want from me?” Carmela’s voice trembled, not with fear but with suppressed rage. The group shifted uncomfortably, sensing the growing tension but unsure how to intervene.Lily, always one to protect her friend, nudged Carmela’s arm and whispered, “Carmela, don’t do this.”But it was too late. Carmela pushed back her chair abruptly, the sound grating against the floor, and stood. Without another word, she stormed off toward the bathroom, leaving behind a trail of uneasy silence.Inside the bathroom, Carmela grippe

Damion sat stiffly in the backseat of the car, his fists clenched tightly on his lap. His hair, usually neatly styled, was disheveled, a testament to his frustration. He had left the café in a rush, his chest tight with an anger he couldn’t explain. His knuckles still ached from the punch he had thrown at the seat in front of him earlier, but the physical pain paled in comparison to the storm raging inside him.“Sir?” the driver asked hesitantly, glancing at him in the rearview mirror.Damion sighed, wiping at his lips with the back of his hand as though to rid himself of the lingering taste of alcohol. His sharp gray eyes focused out the window, where the café lights spilled into the dark street.“Where to, sir?” the driver asked again. Before Damion could answer, his phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with a text.Elena: Where are you? I have a surprise for you. Come over.Damion stared at the message for a moment before exhaling sharply. “Take me to Elena’s house,” he said curtly

Damion frowned, his sharp gaze cutting through the dim light of the room as he glanced back toward the door. “Did you hear that?” he asked, his voice low and wary.Elena, still standing before him, tilted her head, feigning innocence. “Hear what?”“I thought I heard someone,” he muttered, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the slightly ajar door.Elena stepped closer, placing a hand on his chest. “It’s nothing, Damion,” she said, her voice soft and sultry. “You’re imagining things. You’ve been under so much stress lately.”Damion stepped back, putting space between them. “Elena, stop this. Whatever you’re trying to do, it’s not going to work.”Her lips curved into a smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Why are you fighting this so much? You used to care about me, Damion. We were good together once. Don’t you miss that?”“No,” he said firmly, his voice cold. “What we had is over. It’s been over for a long time.”Elena’s smile faltered, but she quickly masked it, stepping closer again.

Damion grabbed his coat, his mind racing as he prepared to leave his office. The video replayed in his mind like a broken record—Carmela leaving his hotel room that night, the truth he had been too blind to see staring him in the face.He needed to see her. Now.Just as he reached for the door, Leonard stepped into his path, his expression tense. “Sir, where are you going?”“To Carmela’s house,” Damion said sharply, his voice leaving no room for negotiation.Leonard hesitated, shifting uncomfortably. “Have you forgotten, sir? We’re supposed to meet Mr. Cross tonight.”Damion froze, the name pulling him out of his thoughts. Lucas Cross. His best friend and the man he had been planning to partner with for months.“He just got back into the country,” Leonard continued, his tone gentle but firm. “You know how important this meeting is. If we cancel now, it’ll jeopardize the partnership.”Damion clenched his fists, his jaw tightening as he considered his options. He wanted nothing more tha

Damion sat behind his massive desk, a pen poised in his hand as he signed yet another contract. Carmela’s heart raced as she faced Lucas, her high school sweetheart, standing in Damion’s office. The years had been kind to him; his chiseled features and confident demeanor were even more striking than she remembered.“What are you doing here?” she asked, her voice tinged with surprise and curiosity.Lucas smiled warmly, the corners of his eyes crinkling. “I’m back in town for a business deal,” he explained, glancing briefly at Damion. “Damion and I are discussing a potential partnership.”Carmela’s eyes widened. “You two know each other?”Damion, who had been silently observing the exchange, finally spoke. “Lucas and I have been in talks for a while. He’s considering investing in one of our new projects.”Lucas nodded, his gaze returning to Carmela. “It’s a small world, isn’t it? I never expected to run into you here.”“Neither did I,” she admitted, a soft smile playing on her lips.“We should catch up sometime,” Lucas suggested, his tone casual yet hopeful. “It’s been too long.”

Elena adjusted the silk robe around her as she made her way down the stairs, still groggy from barely sleeping the night before. The moment she reached the bottom, a knock sounded at the door. Her heart skipped. She hadn’t been expecting anyone.Swallowing the nerves threatening to creep in, she smoothed a hand over her hair before unlocking the door. And there he was.Damion Blackwood.Dressed in a crisp black coat, hands shoved into his pockets, his cold gray eyes locked onto her with that unreadable expression she had always hated.“Damion,” she greeted, quickly masking her unease with a smile. “What a surprise.”His gaze flickered over her appearance before meeting her eyes again. “Heard the news. Thought I’d check in.”Elena blinked. “News?”Damion studied her reaction for a moment. “Didn’t you hear? A man went missing last night.”Elena’s blood ran cold.Damion tilted his head. “Turns out, he was last seen here.”Her breath caught. She wasn’t going to show any sign of weakness.

The silence in Elena’s house was suffocating. She sat on the edge of her bed, her hands clasped so tightly in her lap that her knuckles turned white. The events of the night replayed in her head like a broken record—the sickening thud of his body hitting the glass table, the pool of blood spreading across her floor, Lucas’s firm grip on her wrist as he told her to calm the hell down. Her stomach twisted. It was done. The body was buried. And yet, the feeling of dread hadn’t left her.She reached for the wine glass on her bedside table, her fingers trembling as she brought it to her lips. The alcohol burned her throat, but it did little to soothe the panic clawing at her insides.A sudden vibration jolted her, making her nearly drop the glass. Her phone. She grabbed it quickly, her heart racing when she saw the name on the screen.Lucas.Her thumb hovered over the answer button for a second before she finally swiped. “Hello?”“You still panicking?”His voice was calm, smooth—as if they

Lucas’s car screeched to a halt outside Elena’s house. Rushing quickly. His fingers tightened around the steering wheel as he exhaled sharply, trying to steady his thoughts.Elena had sounded frantic on the phone—terrified in a way he had never heard before. And that alone unsettled him.He had known Elena for years. She was cunning, manipulative, and never the type to lose her composure. For her to be this panicked… something had gone terribly wrong. Really wrong. Shoving open the door, he strode toward the entrance, barely knocking before pushing inside. The house was eerily silent.Then—“Lucas.”Her voice was barely a whisper. His gaze snapped to the living room, where she stood frozen, her face pale. And at her feet—Blood. His breath hitched for half a second before his eyes trailed to the man lying motionless on the shattered remains of the coffee table. He moved before his thoughts could catch up, kneeling beside the body and pressing two fingers to the man’s neck.Nothing.

Flashback – One Year AgoThe city skyline stretched endlessly in front of him, neon lights blinking against the dark canvas of the night. Lucas leaned against the balcony railing of the upscale lounge, his sharp eyes scanning the bustling crowd below. He had just returned to the city after years abroad, building his own fortune in silence, away from the suffocating expectations that came with his last name.He had no plans of getting tangled in old affairs. But then—“Elena.”She turned at the sound of her name, her red lips curling into a knowing smile the moment she saw him.“Well, well,” she purred, stepping closer. “Look who decided to crawl back.”Lucas chuckled, swirling the whiskey in his glass before taking a slow sip. “Miss me?”Elena tilted her head, her dark eyes glittering with mischief. “Should I have?”He smirked. “Depends.”She hummed, stepping beside him, resting her arms against the railing. “It’s been years, Lucas. I assumed you disappeared for good.”Lucas exhaled,

The estate was quiet when Carmela stepped inside, the grand foyer dimly lit by the soft glow of the chandelier above. The silence was a stark contrast to the storm inside her mind. She had spent the entire car ride thinking about Damion—about the way his voice had sounded over the phone, about the way he had left the restaurant so abruptly.Even now, she wasn’t sure if she had made a mistake by returning back home and obeying Damion’s wishes when asked her to come home. But then her eyes landed on him.Damion stood by the bar in the living area, pouring himself a drink, his broad shoulders tense. He had already changed out of his suit jacket, his white shirt slightly unbuttoned at the collar, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. The sight of him stole her breath for a moment. He turned when he heard her footsteps, his gaze locking onto hers instantly.“You’re back,” he said, setting the glass down.“You are too,” she countered, her voice softer than she intended. He watched her clos

The tension still clung to Damion like a second skin as he stepped out of Adrian’s penthouse. The night air was crisp, but it did nothing to cool the simmering rage beneath his calm exterior.Adrian was playing a game—one he wasn’t fully revealing yet. And that unsettled Damion more than anything.Sliding into the backseat of his black Mercedes, he exhaled sharply before glancing at his driver. “Home,” he ordered. The car smoothly pulled away from the curb, the city lights casting fleeting reflections across the tinted windows. Damion loosened his tie slightly, his fingers brushing over his temple as he tried to piece together his brother’s true intentions.Adrian hadn’t denied anything. But he also hadn’t given him a straight answer. That meant he was waiting for something. And Damion had a feeling whatever it was—he wouldn’t like it.Meanwhile at a long distance in the night air, Carmela sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the untouched plate of food Lily had brought her earlier.

The soft clink of silverware against porcelain filled the intimate space of the restaurant. Candlelight flickered between them, casting a warm glow over their meal. For the first time in what felt like forever, Carmela felt a strange sense of normalcy—like they were just any other couple enjoying dinner together. But that illusion shattered when Damion’s phone buzzed against the table. His entire demeanor shifted.Carmela watched as he reached for the device, his expression unreadable as he glanced at the caller ID. Without a word, he answered, bringing the phone to his ear.“Speak.”The voice on the other end was muffled, but Carmela could hear the urgency in the tone. Damion’s jaw clenched slightly.“When?” he asked, his voice quieter now, but colder.A pause.“And he just left?”Carmela frowned, setting down her fork. The look on Damion’s face made it urgent. What was happening this time around?Another long silence stretched between them before Damion let out a slow breath, his fi
