The Breaking Point
Maria’s POV
We got to the hospital and headed inside after Sebastian’s driver got a good parking space in the parking lot. The receptionist informed us that my father had been taken to the ER and then directed us to a private waiting room after writing down my name and contact details. Immediately I entered, I walked straight to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked out. It depicted a beautiful landscape view of the city but she couldn’t see it because she replayed the events of the day before her eyes. “Maria, you have to take it easy on yourself.” Sebastian advised softly behind her. “I know what you are trying to do but I want you to know that none of this is your fault.” I turned and looked up at him squarely in the face. “You are right and you are wrong. You are right because none of this is my fault. I didn’t force them to show up in my office and throw tantrums. You are wrong because what you think I am trying to do is not what I am doing.” “What do you think I think you are trying to do?” “Blame myself for all that happened today.” “Yes, you are right, Maria.” “And that’s why I said that you are wrong.I don’t blame myself at all; in fact, what I am trying to do is look for a way to cut off completely from the Kidmans.” He cocked his head to the side and studied my face. "What really happened between you and the Kidmans, Maria?” I pushed my head down and looked for a way to distract him so I would not answer the question. I didn’t want to dig up skeletons from the closet. The door opened and we turned to see a middle-aged doctor walk in, and I sighed in relief. “Ms. Bellucci?” “That’s me!” I said a little too brightly, glad that the distraction I needed came at the right time. “My name is Doctor Elijah and I am the resident doctor in charge of your father. We carried out two rapid diagnostic tests on him to determine the type and severity of the heart attack. We found out from the tests that it was a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. This means that the heart attack was not severe. I heard that a young man helped him in your office. He may have saved your father’s life.” “Oh, that’s good news, Doctor.” “We stabilized him with medications, then placed him in the Coronary Care Unit for further evaluation. He may have to stay in our hospital for a while for further evaluation.” “Okay, thanks for the feedback, Doctor. Can I see him briefly?” “Yes but I must indicate that a visit to a patient in the Coronary Care Unit is restricted for immediate family members only.” The doctor informed her while giving cursory glances to Sebastian. “Yeah, yeah, uh, my fiance can wait here; that’s fine.” I responded to the doctor, and then he took me through the necessary health screenings before taking me to the CCU to see my father, while Sebastian waited in the waiting room. “Doctor Elijah, has my father’s wife been contacted yet?” I asked the doctor as soon as we stepped out of the waiting room. “Uhm, I don’t think so. I was told that his family member, which was you, had arrived already.” He answered with a puzzled expression on his face. “Okay, but you need to inform his wife as soon as possible because I won’t be available to visit him subsequently.” I informed the doctor as soon as we entered my father’s hospital room. He was in a semisitting position on the bed and turned as soon as we entered. I saw different emotions on his face when he entered but one emotion stood out—anger. “Hello, Mr. Kidman. I hope you are feeling better? You have a guest.” The doctor exchanged pleasantries and small talk with my father and me, then stepped out after indicating that he would be back shortly because I couldn’t stay long.” “I didn’t think you would show up here.” He sneered subtly. “I didn’t think you would still be this odious after all that happened in my office.” “What do you want? I am sure you are disappointed that I didn’t die.” He sneered this time, unable to hide his anger. “No, I am not disappointed because I am not like your wife and daughter. I had to ensure that you got here safely and since your health condition is not severe, I have something to say to you. Hence this visit.” “What is it?” He asked curiously. “I had a very happy childhood when my mother was still alive but then life became grey when she died and finally black when you brought in that woman to our home.” “Maria…” He started but then I raised up my forefinger to stop him from saying anything. “You will listen while I express myself to you.!” I softly reprimanded and then continued. “You and that woman made my life a living hell and when her daughter was born, she made it worse. I didn’t say a word; I didn’t complain. I stayed loyal and worked like a dog because I still saw you all as family but then you all shattered the camel’s back when you waved me aside after the hurt that Richard and Cassandra inflicted on me. I left home but you didn’t even bother looking for me or even say hello via the media. Now you all threaten and torment me because you want the man I am engaged to, for your selfish financial reasons. Your actions are no longer hurtful but now they are plain disgraceful. I feel so much shame thinking about your actions.” I heard footsteps and low voices in the hallway, which alerted me that it was time to leave. “You indicated earlier that you will disown me if I go ahead with the wedding. I stopped considering you as my father a long time ago so I will make this easy for you. Today, I disown you as my father so good luck having your precious wife and other daughter taking care of you. I am out of here.” “Maria! Maria!” He half screamed and the doctor rushed in, wondering what was going on. “What is going on? Is he alright?” He asked me at the door. “I hope you have called his wife Doctor?” I asked sharply, ignoring all that my father was saying. “You should check on your patient. Good day.” I made my way to the waiting room where my Sebastian waited and sighed in relief when I saw Cassandra and her mother rushing towards the CCU, which was at the other end of the hall. I wasn’t in the mood for more drama with the Kidmans. “Sebastian, I’m done here. Let’s head out.” I informed him as soon as I saw him, then turned to head out of the hospital. “Maria, are you alright?” “Yes! Yes, I am. Please take me home.” The ride home was very quiet. I didn’t say a word and when we got to my office, I said a quiet thank you and left him there.A Gesture Of KindnessSebastian’s POV I stared after Maria until she entered her apartment building. She would always play the superwoman and I thought that she was one of the strongest and smartest women I know but this situation with her family was getting to her. She didn’t say a word to me about it, nor did she cry or throw tantrums but I could sense her sorrow because it hung vividly over her. While I was in deep thought, an idea came to my mind, and I acted on it immediately. I opened social media and copied the office cell of Maria’s best friend and housemate, Helena. When I was done, I dialed her cell. ********* “Hello Helena, thank you for meeting me.” I welcomed her as soon as she took her seat across me on the terrace session of my favorite elite restaurant. We exchanged pleasantries and ordered glasses of wine. “I must confess, Sebastian, I have a very long, worky day but I had to squeeze out time because curiosity has taken a major hold. What is this abou
Headlines And HavocMaria's POV I woke up with a smile on my face still reminiscing about the day before where Sebastian planned a surprise for me. The book session with Angela Vangore was so precious that I didn't want it to end. I rolled to the other side of my California Queen sized bed and smiled as I recalled the conversation we had over the phone when I came back home. “You did so many unimaginable things today, Sebastian. How exactly did you pull them off?” I asked with awe in my voice, still unable to get over the excitement of the day. “Let’s just say, it pays to have friends in high places and it pays even higher to be able to call in favors in the shortest time possible.” “That's great! Thank you for today. I enjoyed every moment but the reading and discussion session with Angela was mind-blowing. I don't think I can get over it” “I am glad we could make you smile and get excited.” He replied but then his reply reminded me about all that was going on. He cle
The Proposal RevisitedMaria’s POV During the call with Sebastian, we realized that the tactics of our opposition had changed so we also need to discuss counteractions and plans to fault any of their upcoming actions. Sebastian suggested that Helena should also come along for the meeting since she was a lawyer and I agreed. I spent some time with Nathan and when I put him to bed for his nap, Helena and I got ready and drove to Sebastian's home. “It's a nice place you've got here.” Helena complemented his home when we saw him. His mansion was seated in the middle of a humongous estate which belonged to him. I remembered Helena's words when she saw the pool. Oouuu, Nathan will love this pool, Maria. It's so cool.” Hearing her half teasing words made me realize that Nathan and I would soon call this place home but was I ready to be called Mrs. Bolt? Honestly? Nope! It was a huge shoe to fill. Although, I was not scared of taking of the role of Mrs. Bolt, I was scared of
Sparks FlyHelena's POV: I stared up at Keith Winchester and wondered if he was really the big shark everyone feared in the corporate legal world. We both ran in the same legal sphere but he was all the way at the top, famous for trampling his opponents legally and for being insanely handsome like his best friend Sebastian. “Uhmm, thank you?” I wasn't sure why he was acting that way and he noticed that I was puzzled so he cleared his throat, gave a small awkward laugh and moved backwards. “Do I know you?” He asked with furrowed brows and I saw again why women were all over him but I heard he was too busy to give them any attention. Just like his best friend, Sebastian but then a woman who happened to be my best friend was slowly but surely getting his attention unintentionally. “Uhh, we must have attended the same conference. I am a corporate lawyer.” He squinted his eyes and pointed at me. “Helena Montoya. Do you work with Joe and Hopkins firm?” “That's me.” I pulled
Helena's POV I came down from one of Keith's cars and thanked the driver before he zoomed off, then smiled when I saw my own car driving into the parking lot. Keith had sent his driver to bring the car home since it was a Monday morning and I would need my car. As soon as I entered our apartment, I heard Maria half screaming. “Helena Montoya, you are such a slut and a magnet. You really got that guy.” I laughed at her dramatic expressions because she was trying not to shout so that she would not wake Nathan up and at the same time she wanted to be her dramatic shouty self. “Maria, I don't have time for this drama. I just need a bed.” “You didn't sleep last night?” She asked with a raised brow and I turned red. “Oouuu, look at you looking all tomatoes-like. Keep the details to yourself though because it sure was a lot of gymnastics if you need a bed.” My phone beeped at that moment and I smiled when I saw a message from Keith asking if I had settled in alright. “Awnnn
Bro TalksKeith’s POV “I am finally seeing a pattern with the Gustavos. They like to jump on business trends so if we…” Sebastian cocked his head to the side and asked. “Are you with me, bro?” “Yeah, yeah, I am with you.” I replied distractedly, still thinking about the occurrences that happened two days ago. He nodded his head and continued. “Good, Good, as I was saying, the Gustavos follow a particular pattern and I believe that if we hack it to the peak, we will…Keith, you are not listening to me.” “I am!” I defended but in all honesty, I was distracted. He placed his pen on the mahogany table, and sat back on his chair, then asked. “Okay, what was my last sentence? In fact, what's my proposed plan for the Gustavos?” “You talked about the..the pattern?” “What pattern?” I sighed and raised up my hands in defeat. “Okay, fine. I wasn't listening.” Sebastian sat forward in his seat and asked. “What's going on, Keith? You've been in a zombie mood since you came here.
Running From The TruthHelena's POV It's been two days since I asked Keith to leave my house and since that time I hadn't heard a word from him. I should be relieved about this but for some reason I couldn't explain, it irked me and I just wanted to send myself to the naughty corner for even starting anything with him in the first place. “What were you thinking, Lena?” I asked myself quietly and Maria replied. “Did you say something, Lena?” “No, no. I was just talking to myself.” “Mmmhmm.” She replied sarcastically and pushed her anti blue-ray glasses downwards and dramatically gave a pose that silently depicted. 'Let me have a good look at you.’ I gave her a self conscious laugh and asked. “Girl, what is it?” “You were talking to yourself. That's what's up. You've been talking to yourself for days now and we both know when you do that, then you have something eating you inside. I know it's not work because you guys wrapped up the deal successfully and you are on a sh
News FlashMaria's PoV I woke up thinking about Maria's statement about me and Sebastian, and even as I got ready for work, the statement still won't leave my head. “What did she mean by oh Maria you are so wrong about you and Sebastian?” I asked myself as I styled my hair. I heard a knock on my door and turned to see Nathan followed closely by Emily. “Who's there at my door?” I asked dramatically then gasped and half shouted. “Oh look! It's my son! And he’s sooo ready for school.” Nathan laughed and raced towards my ready arms. I grabbed him and started tickling his chubby baby body until he raced his hands and started shouting amidst laughter. “I surrender! I surrender!” Laughing hard as well, I placed him down and planted many kisses on his face. He looked at me and said, “When I grow up, mommy, I will tickle you many many times.” “Well, that's when you grow up but till then I will….” I crouched low and started for him but he screamed and raced out of my room amidst
A Hint Of ManipulationMaria’s POVAilene and the lady stopped in front of our table and that was when I realized that they were standing arm in arm with pleased smiles on their faces. Smiles that were focused on Sebastian and Keith.“Hello big brother. Hello Keith” Ailene greeted cheerfully then slightly waved at Helena and I as if she was forced to do that.“Ailene, what are you doing here?”“Well, Svetlana accompanied me for the conference and we decided to come check out your restaurant’s menu. It’s been a while since she sampled this gorgeous place.”“This restaurant belongs to Sebastian as well? Just what does this man not have?” I asked myself quietly then stopped talking when I caught Sebastian staring at me.“Svetlana accompanied you for this conference?” Sebastian asked then laughed in disbelief before he picked up his menu and perused it as if his sister and the gorgeous lady was not standing there.“Oh come on, Seb.” The lady spoke up and I raised my brow. It wasn’t her ru
Sweet Then SourMaria's POV It was the day of the conference and I would soon be called up to speak. My nerves were in shambles and Helena was squeezing my hands from time to time. I craned my neck and looked towards the west wing section of the hall and the door for the umpteenth time. “He'll be here soon. He has to be. Sebastian has never missed a day in this conference and he won’t start now, darling.” Helena whispered and I didn’t bother arguing with her that I wasn’t looking for Sebastian. After the intimate moment we had, he still came around and helped me practise for my speaking section and each time he did that, it was as if a higher level of confidence was unlocked in me. “Let’s welcome on stage for the third speaking session, Miss Maria Belluci.” I heard the host announce my name and the sound of applause that accompanied the announcement. “You’ve got this, baby girl.” Helena whispered fiercely and kissed my hand. As I walked to the stage, I became increasi
The Conference IISebastian's POV I left Keith's penthouse apartment and realized that Maria would be alone in her apartment. The urge to go and see her was strong but then there was also the fact that she had been distant since the encounter with my sister, Ailene. I didn't blame her though, because I would do the same if I had met Ailene as Maria. Giving up the idea, I turned to go to my room but the urge to see her was so strong, I found myself walking towards her door. “Seriously Lena, what do you want this time? More condoms?” I heard her shout and laughed because I couldn't wait to see her face when she found out that it wasn't Lena but me. But when she opened the door, I was the one who became speechless when I saw her outfit. She wore a silk camisole and a matching pair of small silk shorts. They were the smallest pair of clothing I had seen on her and I was going crazy already. I tried to get my acts together so I cleared my throat. “I uhh, I wanted to come
The Conference Maria's POV After the flopped dinner event with Sebastian and his sister, I buried myself deep inside work and life as Nathan's mother to avoid him and the troubles that came with him. Whenever he called I was either busy with work or Nathan hence there was no time to have lengthy conversations or even see him. Two weeks later, I was invited to be a guest speaker in one of the biggest conferences that was held in the legal sphere in collaboration with the business sphere. “Man! I am so excited about this conference. I am so excited to be in Paris again.” Helena shouted as we exited our plane to head to the SUV that would take us to our suite. I had guest speaker privileges and Helena was enjoying every single moment. “I am nervous, man.” I stated plainly. “Oh, come off it. You will do fine.” She waved me off, more interested in the glitz that came with being a speaker at the conference. “The crowd.” I stated and Helena turned. “You do realize that Se
Aftermaths Of DinnerSebastian's PoV “What just happened?” I asked no one in particular as soon as Maria and Helena entered the elevator and left. I really didn't understand what happened in the space of forty minutes. One minute I was admiring the exotic beauty that Maria was and the next minute she was leaving indicating that she had lost interest while my sister sat there with a satisfied glow on her face. “Someone tell me what the hell just happened.” I demanded hotly in a loud voice which made Ailene jump in surprise. “What happened, Ailene? What was all that about?” Keith asked my sister with a subtly accusatory tone. “What happened where? Why are you asking me? Why don't you ask the person who walked away in the middle of dinner? A phone call should clarify details.” “Shut the hell up, Ailene. Don't make me angry.” I growled in a low voice and she gasped. “What is going on, Seb? You've…you've never talked to me this way before.” “That's because you've never do
Meeting AileneMaria's POV “Why exactly am I attending this dinner with you?” Helena grumbled behind me as we wore the pointy toe stilettos that we bought from the fashion shop a few days ago. “You will attend the dinner with me because I get to meet another Bolt family member. Look at it as a uhh support system kinda thing.” “Support system kinda thing? Since when do you need that level of support Maria Bellucci?” “Since the craziness that is called the Kidman family and the craziness that is Sebastian's father. You saw their actions recently, right?” “Yeah, you have a point. Which family member are we meeting this time around? His mother?” “Nope! His younger sister.” “Okay, younger sisters do not bring trouble.” Helena replied with enthusiasm then her face fell as she remembered something or someone. “Well, Maria. There's your younger sister.” “You better watch your mouth, missy. She's no sister of mine.” I replied with a fierce tone and Helena raised her hand in sur
Plans And Counterplans Mr. Bolt PoV I waited until Sebastian left then picked up my phone and called Max Kidman. “Max, we have a problem. Meet me at the club now. Also, come along with your daughter, Cassandra. I’d like to make a request of her and also ask her some questions concerning her last meeting with my son.” The situation seemed to be getting out of hand and if I don't curb it now then I have a lot to lose. In fact, I will go down with the Kidmans because I know that Max will surely take his pound of flesh. Cassandra's wedding to Sebastian was all that Max wanted to keep him quiet because if he had Sebastian as a son-in-law then there was no way he would go down and I won't have to go down with him. I don't want to go down so I have to do everything humanly possible to ensure that Sebastian married the Kidman girl. If I look at it logically then I would agree that Sebastian was going after the right Kidman daughter. Maria was smart, bright and doing well with h

She tsked and fixed hot gazes on me. “What happened between you and Cassandra? How and why exactly are you two even together in one picture? Where was the location in the picture? I need details. I can't just wake up and get surprises from the news. It shouldn't be my norm. I need details so I know what I am possibly facing soon.” “Maria, please take a seat. I will share every detail soon.” “Okay.” She simply replied then sat down and crossed her arms in front of her and I clamped my hands to prevent myself from smiling even though I was very angry. I was angry at myself for not flowing with my instincts because I knew immediately Cassandra showed up uninvited that something fishy was going on but I didn't act on it. I was also angry at Cassandra, the Kidmans and even my father for all these tantrums and naughty games and
