Family Reunion
Maria’s POV Sebastian’s laugh had his father red with rage. He rose from his seat, coming to stand by me with a protective hand on my low back. I was much too angry to give mind to the sparks that traveled up my spine from where he touched me. “You forget, dad, that if I hadn’t taken over Bolt Industries when I did, the company would no doubt have folded under your leadership.” He said with a bored tone. “Even if you were to present that case to the board, they would no doubt agree with me.” “How dare you?!” The man spat rising from his seat. “I raised you when your whore of a mother dropped you on my doorstep. I took you in with no questions asked. I made you what you are today.” “And you have made sure to remind me of it at every turn.” Sebastian scowled. “I have paid my dues in the billions I have made you and if you choose, I will leave you to see just how well you can manage those billions.” If I wasn’t upset and if he were any other man, I would have found his confidence sexy. I had a weakness for competent men. “You…” “I will be leaving now with my fiancée.” He added, taking my hand in his. “Enjoy your dinner with Miss Kidman.” “Seb…” He led me out, ignoring Cassandra’s attempt to speak to him, his grip painful. I tried to remove my hand from his but his grip was even tighter. He didn’t even seem to be thinking. “Sebastian.” I called, straining against his hold. “Sebastian!” I said a little louder. He stopped and turned to look at me as though seeing me for the first time. “You’re hurting me.” I said straining against his hold again. “I’m sorry.” He apologized. I nodded and this time, he held out his hand to me with a questioning look in his eye. I put my hand in his and allowed him lead me to his car. Giving him my address was a tough decision but I did, leaning back and breathing out deeply once the car started moving. A lot of words had been said and secrets had been spilled but neither of us said anything on the ride to my house. “Thank you.” I said once he stopped in front of my apartment building. He nodded. “You’re still going to the bridal shop tomorrow?” he asked. I nodded. “Alright.” He said then as an afterthought he added: “You do know your sister is going to slander you on social media so you should prepare to be stormed with paparazzi tomorrow. I would advise you stay indoors.” “I will not hide. I am innocent of her accusations.” “It is not hiding.” He answered. “It is called being strategic.” “Thank you for your suggestion but I can take care of myself.” I snapped, unlocking my seat belt and opening the door. I was already out and had almost fully closed the door when I heard his words. “You don’t always have to.” I stormed away from his car, barely greeting the door man as I stepped into the lobby of my apartment building. I just wanted to shower off the annoyance of the day and ignore how those words made my heart heavy with grief at my own father’s betrayal. “Mari!” I heard a familiar voice call just before I could call the elevator. I turned to see my father staring at me with unrestrained anger in his eyes. “What the bloody hell do you think you’re doing?” He spat stepping closer to me. My building’s security eared but I waved them off. He straightened his jacket remembering he was in public. “It is good to see you too, Father.” I answered. He looked nothing like the man that had loved my mother and I when I had been younger. Nothing at all like the man who had taught me to drive and made me develop a love for classical music. I had ached for the love we had shared before he’d married Fiona, Cassandra’s mother. “Why do you insist on hurting your sister the way you do?” He asked. “Sebastian Bolt was engaged to her first.” Why did everyone insist on treating Sebastian as a toy that was snatched rather than an adult capable of making decisions? “Is that really what you came all this way to say?” I asked unable to hide my tears. “After five years?” He stumbled back clearing his throat unable to look at me. “Don’t try to distract me from the problem on ground, Maria. Temper tantrums hardly becomes you.” I laughed, wiping at my eyes. They were not worth crying over. “You didn’t seem so bothered when I told you I caught her sleeping with Richard.” “That is because I knew Richard wasn’t worth anything!” I scoffed unable to believe what I was hearing. “You’re unbelievable.” “And you’re being selfish.” He scolded. “You’re not worthy of such a match.” “And Cassandra is?” “She is the current CEO of Kidman Shipping.” “Which was also meant to be mine!” I yelled unable to help myself. “When has she ever done something for herself? Everything that has ever been mine, she has coveted. My toys, my fiancé and even my father.” He winced and had the gall to look ashamed. “You know I only take her side because I never wanted her to feel I loved her less…” “She’s no longer a child!” I spat. “When is she going to grow up?” “Look Mari.” He sighed. “I need this marriage more than I can tell you. Kidman shipping is… we’re in dire straits. I cannot…” “That is no concern of mine any more, father.” I said, squaring my shoulders. “You disowned me, remember?” I walked away from him, stepping into the elevator that opened just at that second and as if realizing the conversation was over, he didn’t follow me. The second I stepped into my apartment, I crumpled to the floor, slapping a hand over my mouth to mute my sobs. It was easy to pretend I didn’t care anymore for my father but seeing him today after so many years, old wounds had opened up and it stung even worse than it had before. “Is everything alright, dear?” I heard Helena, my best friend, ask. “How was the dinner?” I told her what happened, rising from the floor to hydrate. Anger filled me again as I remembered the disastrous dinner. Helena was positively livid. “What do you intend to do?” “I intend to proceed as planned.” “Your family isn’t just going to let this slide. They will do everything in their power to stop you.” “Let them.” I said frowning. “Its high time I stop acting like I’m powerless.” Would this event lead to old woulda resurfacing?I Cannot Marry YouSebastian’s POV It took everything in me not to pick up Maria’s father by his neck and shake him. I wondered how he could treat his own daughter so poorly despite seeing how his words hurt her. I had gotten out of my car to talk about what had happened at dinner and to know why she hadn’t said anything about her relationship to Cassandra. “Is that really what you came all this way to say? After five years?” She had looked so broken when she had said those words that anger had coursed through me for her. I knew how it felt to be berated by family so I understood her pain perfectly. It was honestly for her good she had been disowned by him. Such a selfish bastard didn’t deserve her. The man looked dejected and stood for a long minute after the elevator doors shut. Sebastian it is a pleasure to see you. I was hoping we could…” “Why are you here?” I asked interrupting him. “Excuse me?” “Why are you in my fiancé’s apartment building?” I asked again. He frowned
The Frightening VisitMaria's PoV“Are you sad, momma?” Nathan, my intuitive four year old, asked me this question a second time.I forced a smile on my face and picked him up and kissed all over his face while tickling his body. He loved it when I did that. Then I hugged him tightly and inhaled his baby scent. “Momma is happy, munchkin and momma loves you a lot.”“I ‘ove you too, momma.” He mumbled on my chest with his baby voice.“Momma needs to rest now, baby. You should go play with your toys in the toy room and I will join you when I am done resting, yeah? We'll build a gigantic house this time around.”“Yeah!” He pumped his little chubby hands in the air excitedly and I couldn't help but smile with delight. This is one part of my life that is very much intact and I cherish this part with everything in me.“Emily will take you now, darling. See you later.” I kissed his chubby cheeks and handed him over to his nanny who came in and carried him to his toy room just as Helena came b
Anticipating The StormMaria's POV“Let him in.” I told Helena then rushed to my room to wash my face again, comb my hair out then change from my skimpy gown to a cashmere loungewear set. After checking my appearance in the mirror to be certain that I looked presentable, I headed to the living room where Helena engaged in casual conversation with Sebastian. He stood up immediately I entered and gave me a slow once over, momentarily forgetting that Helena stood close to him.Helena cleared her throat loudly and said “I'll leave you two to talk.” then she exited. We stared at each other quietly for a while but I didn't bother to initiate any conversation not because I was being proud but I honestly didn't know what to say at that point, after the embarrassing stunt I pulled.“I received your message.” Sebastian finally broke the silence.“I know.” was all I could reply.“What changed?” He asked softly.“Look, it was just a momentary thing. I was angry and irritated and for a brief momen
The Expected ArrivalMaria's PoVI looked at the time and smiled when I saw that even the time was on my side, then I leaned back against my sofa and yawned dramatically, almost inelegantly. “This conversation has been enlightening, Sebastian but you know what I just realized?”“What is it?” He asked with a small suspicious smile on his face.He was still unsure but was starting to suspect that I was up to something.“The Boulevard proposal meeting. I just remembered that I have a very important meeting first thing in the morning and I need to go through my proposals again.”Sebastian chuckled as he finally caught on to what I was doing. “I see you are kicking me out.”“Oh, not at all” I feigned regret then gave him my sweetest smile. “Even corporate princesses like me need to go through their proposals again and again then catch some beauty sleep before D-day.”He shook his head in disbelief while smiling then stood up gracefully. “Fair enough. Don't get too comfortable with this win
Whispers In The DarkSebastian's PoVThe beep of my phone distracted me from the document I was working on.‘Where are you? I've got news.’It was a text from Maria, and seeing as she doesn't call or text except it is absolutely necessary, I called her immediately, wondering what the news could be.She picked on the second first dial and repeated. “Where are you? I've got news.”I laughed, catching her excitement and replied. “I am still in my office. You want to come over to share the news?”“Exactly what I had in mind.” She replied excitedly and I wondered what got her all excited. We talked some more as she made her way to my office then after we hung up the call, I texted my secretary to instruct the office assistant to get food from Maria's favourite restaurant.I had watched her media interviews enough to know her favourite food and even her favourite restaurant. My secretary returned with the food just in time for Maria to inform me that she had arrived and soon she was swaying
Facing The DemonMaria’s POV I woke up with a start and wondered where I was for a moment. The scent and everything else felt different from my room. It was until I moved and felt strong, large arms around me that I realized that I was still in Sebastian’s office and that we were lying on the soft bed in his office. “What the hell is the time?” I asked myself and realized that Sebastian and I were in a spoonlike position and he wrapped his arms around me protectively. I listened to his relaxed breathing as he slept but jumped from the sofa when my eyes rested on the timepiece on the wall. “Shit!” I said and he woke up highly alert. “What’s going on, Maria?” “The time.” I said, putting on my clothes in a hurry. He looked at the time and asked. “You want to go home by this time?” “Of course!” I replied, looking at him with unbelief. “Do you want your staff to come in in a few hours and see me leaving your office building with ruffled clothes?” “I’ll take you home.”
A Sinister OfferMaria’s POV Helena and I celebrated and talked about the investment for a while, then we had to prepare for the day. “Hello, momma.” Nathan greeted me with a wide grin when he saw me. I smiled,, thinking about how his grin looked so much like Sebastian’s grin. “Hello, my baby. Did you sleep well?” I asked, then gave him a squeezy hug. “Yes, but I missed you last night.” He said it in his baby accent. “Awww, I am sorry, baby. I will play bricks and castles with you tonight. Do we have a deal?” "Yeahh!” he shouted in delight and ran in circles. “It’s time for your bath, baby, then I will make your favorite waffles and pack your lunch for preschool. How does that sound?” He jumped, then wrapped his chubby arms around my neck and pecked my cheeks. I took him to his bathroom and bathed him, then Emily got him ready for school while I made his food and packed his lunch, then pecked him and prepared for work while he ate. I put on a two-piece corporate out
The Deadly Ultimatum Maria's POV I sat down slowly on my chair and tried to process what happened. “What the hell was that?” I asked myself softly. “Are you certain that this is the kind of life you want to sign up for? You haven't spent a dime from the investment Sebastian sent. You can still send it back.” I picked up my phone to call Sebastian but then I shook my head defiantly and dropped the phone. “I am not some cowering little girl those people think that they can bully to do their selfish bidding. I will see this through to the end and I will prevail.” Shrugging the incident with Sebastian's father off, I focused on disseminating the proceedings of the investment. Soon, my Executive Assistant came back with news. “Every instruction has been carried out, Ms. Belluci and as expected, the news has caused an excited ripple to flow in our company today.” “Good! Schedule a meeting with our top executives in two hours. When you are done, put a call through to our tech ve
Flowery Moments Maria's POV My heart banged wildly as I rushed back to my penthouse after exiting Sebastian's room thinking that I would turn around and see him coming after me. “How could you do that, Maria? Come on, how could you do that?” I repeated to myself over again as I walked back. My body still trembled from Sebastian's touch and longed for it but my brain was seriously beating my body for betraying us. How could I just jump into bed with him after months where he ignored me and didn't even care one bit? How could I just jump into his bed after the naughty tantrum-like behaviour he displayed when I was with Vicenzo? I opened the door to the penthouse and when I entered, moved straight to the bathroom. “Are you alright, Maria?” I turned to see Helena on the sofa and she looked as if she had been waiting up for me. “What's the time?” “It's five AM.” I sighed resignedly and slumped down on the sofa in front of Helena, then bit my lip to prevent from cryi
Burning With Jealousy Sebastian's PoV The endless meetings concerning the annual business conference were taking their toll as usual. I was moving from one meeting to the other with the top guns so I hadn't even had time to ask if Maria had arrived or if she was settled in the penthouse. I wanted to give her the best experience while she was in Paris, so I instructed my other pilot to bring her down to Paris with my other private jet and I also instructed the host that when they arrived they should only be given the best. The meeting I just came out from lasted for hours. Don't get me wrong, it was meetings such as that one that placed me on a higher pedestal than businessmen of my age but it was long and I was tired physically. When we came out of the boardroom, my physical exhaustion changed to anger and burning jealousy when I saw Maria with some other guy. The guy was pleased to see me and I didn't mean to be rude but I was burning too much with jealousy to even thi
The Annual Corporate Conference Maria's POV The journey to Paris was more enjoyable than the last time because I was not treated as a first time speaker but a seasoned writer. Helena and I were taken to Paris with a private jet and when we arrived, we were lodged in one of the best penthouses in one of Sebastian's highrise buildings. When we entered the penthouse, Helena whistled and turned to me. “At this point Maria, I doubt that all of this is because you are a speaker. You were a speaker last year and we didn't get all of these.” I folded my arms and then raised my brow “Really? Why do you think we were given this type of treatment then?” “Isn’t it obvious? Sebastian of course. We came in his private jet and now we are in one of the best apartments in his highrise buildings.” I chuckled and shook my head. “You of all people know that Sebastian doesn't give a damn about me so yes, he may be the owner but it could have been that the panel decided that it had to be that
The Armani Brothers Maria's POV I smiled as I laid sleeping Nathan on his bed. I thought about my day with him and I must say that I had a swell time with him at the new zoo downtown. We saw different types of animals, participated in fun activities and I allowed ice cream and had other snacks. The highlight for me was spending time with my son but at different times I felt like people were watching us. I looked over my shoulder at different times but didn't see anyone. “Goodnight, my love.” I pecked his cheek. He slept off immediately after he ate dinner and had his bath because he was exhausted after the long fun day he had. I stayed back in Nathan's room and watched him as he slept thinking about how he looked so much like his father. Speaking about his father, at one point while we were in the zoo, I felt that Sebastian was there and I even perceived his signature cologne but then the logical part of me reasoned that I must be missing him deeply to feel that way.
Catching A Glimpse Sebastian's PoV It was Saturday and since my mother started living with Ailene, I ensured to have breakfast with them every Saturday so that I could spend some time with them and catch up on how their week went. When I entered, I saw that breakfast was already set at Ailene's terrace. “Okay, darling. Enjoy your day and ensure to tell me all about it when you get back.” “Okay, Aiva.” I heard the sweet childish voice on the other end of the video call and knew that my mother was having facetime with Nathan. They had become so close, they always spent some time together. “Nathan says hello.” She informed Ailene after ending the call. “He is on his way to the new zoo downtown with Maria and is so excited about it.” “I can imagine how excited he is right now. His beautiful eyes would be aglow and his cheeks would be reddish with excitement.” Ailene replied with a fond smile on her face. As they talked about Maria and Nathan, I behaved as if I was not in
Building Trust Walls Keith's POV I sighed as I watched Sebastian speed off in his car. “Why are you torturing yourself this way?” I asked no one in particular. “You are obviously still in love with this woman and even if you don't say it, your body first of all pines after her.” “Is Sebastian okay?” I heard someone ask behind me and turned to see Helena. I gave her a small smile and said. “Just business discussions giving him some kind of heat.” She raised one elegant bro and folded her smooth hands. “Business discussions or the woman in the gold dress.” I sighed and smiled. “I forgot that you know me all too well. Okay fine. The woman.” “But he didn't say anything to her after the little hand wave he gave her. He only spent the rest of the night with his eyes glued on her. Maria could be pregnant right now from the amount of eye-fucking she received from Sebastian tonight.” When I heard her last sentence, I couldn't help myself so I bent forward and laughed hard.
Rolling With The Top Dogs Sebastian’s POV I drove into the parking lot of the luxurious hotel where the annual event for corporate topdogs in the country was being held. It was a party organized for the elite and powerful in the corporate world and once in a while, they invited those who were promising or trailblazers. Aileen told me earlier that Maria and Helena got the invite this year. I also saw the news on television and I contemplated cancelling but I didn't want to be tagged a coward by Ailene or Keith. It's been many weeks since I last saw Maria and this was because I had made intentional efforts to either avoid her or any news about her. I know that my actions may have hurt her, especially the day she waited all day at my office waiting lounge but then there was a part of me that felt like she deserved all of those treatments even though the other part of me misses her and wants to hold her in my arms again. But sadly, the part of me who wants nothing to do w
Cutting Loosed Ties Maria's POV I took a deep breath to steady the wild beating of my heart before I entered Sebastian's sleek-looking office building again. I had not seen him or heard his voice since the night we had the altercation about Nathan because he did not answer or return my calls nor did he reply to my message. And the last time I visited his office, I was told that he had a busy day so I couldn’t see him. The days after our little fight had been heartbreaking for me because I couldn't understand or even explain why I still lied even when he confronted me. Sleep had eluded me since that night because I kept asking myself a lot of questions and one of them was. 'Why hy exactly did I refrain from telling him about Nathan even when I knew that I had to tell him? There was nothing holding me back.’ Sebastian’s secretary gave me a funny look when I asked if I could see her boss and I wondered if I had been blacklisted from visiting his company already. After
Familial Bond Sebastian's PoV When I got to the car park, I realized that I drove my sister and mother to this location and was grateful that my car keys were with them. I requested an alternative ride home and they offered their chauffeured luxury car service. The anger and frustration was fueling a volcanic eruption inside of me so I tried to look for something to channel all of that. How could she say those words to me even after I called her out? “Now I see that Maria never really trusted or even loved me because if she did then she would not act that way.” I knew that I was still in love with her and that a part of me would always pine for her but with the dark thoughts in my head, I closed the chapter called Maria and poured myself into work. And that was how it would continue. My mother and sister gave me my much needed space for a week and then they visited me during the weekend. My mother drove my car to my house while Ailene drove hers, so that they would
