It feels as though everyone around me lately uses glasses. This is kinda funny because I'm not usually observant of these things. It's so old-fashioned so I don't get why they still do when they could easily get contact lenses.
It's her. She's the reason why.
Walter steps aside while I climb down the car. It's his glasses that amuse me so much. The guy couldn't even pick a better frame. He settled for round lenses that make him look more like a teenager than a fucking grown-ass man that kicked my ass since I was little.
That's why it's so funny.
We move to the entrance and go straight to the elevator.
"You know, if you're going to stick around, you're going to have to use lines, Wally. I'mma has to change you for Miss Dinah." I say to him as we approach the elevator. We are at the chairman's condo where he's decided to be the venue for our meeting today. "I'll l
I do not say a thing.Walter's gaze is fixed on me and I catch it. I read the message in his eyes. He wants me to play it cool. But not this time. Nope. No."Grandpa, I am the director of the group. That's all I have. You can't be taking that away from me to hand to Lucas. He has a lot on his hands. How is he supposed to even juggle all of that?""Well, he's proved to be a better manager than you are. He has his life on track and looks, he's getting engaged in a week. Talk about the perfect fit for everything.""Lucas can hold our other fronts while I handle here. I mean, he just got back from Sydney." I pause before I say, "This is about the date, right? I told you she didn't fucking like me. How is that supposed to be my fault? How am I to make someone who doesn't like me, like me?"What I reported back to grandpa after I got off the date with D
An old classmate hosted this in-house night party to celebrate her birthday. One would expect that being adults, everyone will be prim and proper.Ha.It was basically like the parties we had during our high school days. Neon lights. Buzz. Coke. Hormone-addled teenagers -in this case, grown-ass adults- sucking each other's faces and fucking in corners and the toilets. As well as loud gangster and sex music. No difference. At all.Except maybe, for the little semblance of sanity that the group of men at the poolside seem to exude. They have gathered around, talking probably about basketball or some other shit.Other than that, I'm sure Tina, the birthday girl, will take one devastating look and marvel at the fucking orgy her party has become. But I'm not complaining. I'm here for all the buzz.I have
It was a Monday morning like I'd never had.As much as working with a top hospital had its perks, there are downsides as well. One of which is me being bloody numb and unable to feel my fingers.I've had a morning filled with the flipping of papers and looking into different scans while attending to outpatients. Now that it's lunch, I'm too lazy to go to the cafeteria to go eat, even though my stomach is rumbling in opposition to my lethargy. I do not mind it though.I still make my way to the bunk room, which is closer than the cafeteria, and throw myself on one of the beds, after taking off my coat. I'm thankful the lower part is not occupied. In fact, the entire room is empty and I suppose everyone else is having lunch or maybe they are engaged. The room smells faintly of an uneven mix of antiseptics and detergents. Perhaps, the cleaners were here not long ago.I pull out my p
Kathy is a psycho. I wonder how she manages her craze and is a popular figure. For someone that's usually in a lot of people's faces, she is rather too crazy. And yeah, she is my girlfriend, to whom I'll be engaged, come Friday. I step out of my Porsche cayenne hurriedly and make my way through the entrance. Ignoring everyone's greeting and responses to my arrival, which are mostly shock and fear, and make my way to the elevator. The wait in the elevator makes me jittery and I'm thankful that I do not have to share it with anyone. When it got to the 13th floor, where the cafeteria is, I stepped out as the iron doors open up before me. There's the cafeteria and a store on this floor if I'm correct. I make my way into the Cafe, still ignoring people's looks. I'm trying to be calm but Kathy wants to be the end of me. As much as I fight it, she might just succeed if I do not make it on time to the cafeteria. Of all places, she chose the eating section of the hospital, where all
It took a lot more than the usual men at the white prison to hold me back this time. About ten to fifteen or thereabouts but I handled it fine and I made my way into the room my mother was kept in. Unfortunately, I only got to hold her stiff thin hands for a while, as I watched her sleep. The nurse that stood at the door quickly bailed once she saw me, probably running to go call for help against the hunk of a man advancing towards her.I must have scared her away but it was good. Gave me enough space to be with my mom.The heartbeat monitor showed that she was stable and finally, the bits of my heart that were scattered were pieced back together by hope.Sadly, I soon had to go."Boss, there's no time. We have to go." Walter had said, coming into the room. I had left him outside battling the security men while I made my way inside, dealing with obstructions on my path myself. "If they are reinforced, we'll not be able to do a thing. Let's go. She will be fine." He added. And so, afte
Of all people, Joan is not the one I want to be intervening in my case.To think I was trying to not run into her. Now, I'm caught up in this mess and she's here.My panic and rush were all for nothing."What are you doing here? This is absolutely none of your business so just go away." I murmur to the side, where she stood. She has no right to come to my aid. This is my matter and I can handle it myself. But the annoying woman remains standing, her gaze anywhere but mine. I can see amusement in her eyes as if she knows that I was trying to avoid her when I got myself into this mess. Just before I say another word, Brian, the first colleague I related with as soon as I got here this morning, came to stand next to us."I'm sorry Mr. Halloway" he began with a bow of his head. "She's new and she's my junior. I should have thought her well."Brian took a na
Morning crawled upon me silently. All night, I was in the theater and only made my way out only at one am.A young man was brought to the hospital in an ambulance. He was a victim of a drunk driver's reckless driving and he had to go into surgery immediately because he had his gut opened and his blood was staining the floors of the emergency room.I was scared. Claire informed me that there was no doctor around that could attend to him right away."What do you mean? Surely there must be a surgeon on call." I yelled when I came into the room."There is none. We believe he has an internal organ ruptured and if we don't wheel him inside right now, we might lose him."The man was groaning out loud in pain and James, one of the attending doctors was already cutting his clothes in half with a pair of scissors. Somehow, I wondered how his consciousness hadn't
He came for me.There's a gut feeling within me. It is him. It's Leo.Each of the officers by my side looks at me. They have suspicion written all over their face with every distance this biker accelerating towards us covers. With a shrug, I shook my head at their glare, to tell them that I do not know anything about what was happening. They do not believe me. Because they are pinning me against the back seat in the next second and asking, "who is that guy? Where is the fucking paper?"I wasn't going to believe anything Leo ever said to me.But maybe he's right. Even if I don't want to believe him, maybe he's still right. Because I mean, he's a thief and would know better since he must have encountered and escaped a lot of police officers. On this one though, I have to turn around my resolve and believe him. It's true. T
When my phone started ringing, I had the least intuition that it was going to be another twist of events. Now my brother is taken. Since I came to know about this paper, it has been nothing but heartache.“They have my brother,” I announced to Sebastian and Walter after getting off the phone.“Shit!” he cussed. We drive silently for a while, no one was talking. My mind was on freeing my brother and nothing else. They had asked for the Rubik’s cube and the necklace in exchange for him. I have nothing to lose if I hand them over to them. They said they are calling in the next two hours to tell me where to meet them and I must come alone and tell no one. That’s exactly what I am going to do, not even Sebastian would stop me from this.“Don’t worry. I will get your brother back to you with no harm done to him,” Sebastian had assur
Mr. Edwards noticed the look on Lucas’ face. “What is it?” Mr. Edwards asked curiously.“The Rubik’s cube is gone! Yet my office did not look like it was mobbed when I got in this morning! So how did he gain entrance in?”“He played you by using Ace as a distraction to get in,” Jack said. With the Rubik’s cube in hand of Sebastian, Lucas and his grandfather knew that the Halloways Company is bound to fall, just like Leo took out other companies if nothing is done.“Involving police and asking me to standby last night was the biggest mistake you made, Mr. Edwards,” Jack said. “I have my boy, trailing both Sebastian and Debby since they met at the Wreakin’ club. I am the only one that knows how he operates. I would have gotten him last night if I was allowed but you said you don’t trust me.”M
The next morning at the police station, Ace is sitting in the interrogation room. Shortly, Officer Steve walked into the room with a folder and dropped it on the table in front of Ace.“I thought you were the good guy until you started killing innocent people,” Officer Steve said as he sat opposite Ace.Ace chuckled. “You got the wrong guy!” Ace said.Officer Steve looked at him for a while then said, “The records in front of you said otherwise.”“Your records might be correct. But they are not talking about me, they are talking about Leo, and I am not Leo.”“So who are you?”“I am Ace! A-C-E! in case you can’t spell it.”“The information that reached us last night said that Leo was invading the Halloways Hospital. If you are not Leo, then what are you doi
As I wanted to leave the room, my eyes fell on a Rubik’s cube set on a sizable fridge in the corner. “I have seen something like that,” I thought. I tried to remember where and when but I could not so I decided to forget about it and leave. But as I made to go out, my mind was still on the Rubik’s cube. It was as if there was a rope tied to me from the Rubik’s cube, making my going out without dragging it along impossible. So I decided to carry it along.Just as I stepped out of the room to go, I felt a piece of metal touch my head. As I turned, there was Joan with a gun. She moved backward to leave some space between us.“What are you doing with a gun, Joan?”“Nothing. I just want that Rubik’s cube.”“And why should I give it to you?”“Because I have a gun. If you don’t give
When Sebastian initially approached the building, there was no sign of policemen around, not even the hospital security. Not seeing any security in sight only meant one thing to him; they cleared everywhere just to lure him into the building easily, so they could lock down the building and hem him in. But he was not going to make it that easy for them.“This is going to be tougher than I thought.”That was why he changed his plan and decided to create some panic by going behind the building to the powerhouse to knock out the power source. But just when he turned to go, a bright halogen light flashed at him, and every darkness that hid him before left!“Shit! I just caught made before I even started,” Sebastian muttered.“Oh! It’s you!” Ace said and turned off the torch.“Ace what are you doing?”
Sebastian and Debby kept arguing without making any progress. She was determined to go.“You don’t have to be worried about my safety,” Sebastian said. “Jack and Ace are going with me. I already notified them. So you just rest right here.”“If you are going down, I want to be there to go down with you. I’m ready to take this risk.”Debby felt it was a risk worth taking, besides she has cancer anyway. Dying from a bullet or getting caught is better than dying slowly of cancer.“Even if you stop me from going with you, I will still come after you. I love you too much to let you walk right into the danger zone all alone,” Debby persisted.“You are so stubborn,” Sebastian taunted her.“Oh yeah!” Debby chuckled and put her arm on his neck then continued, “A trait I picked up
Mr. Edwards brandished the gun with a mischievous smile on his face then said, “I sent you to do business for me and you were not afraid to run away with my money? You deserve not to be heard but to be killed!”Jack knew what he did. He knew Mr. Edwards was not blabbing. He knew what he can do.“Now tell me why I should not shoot you right now for betraying my trust for you and running away with my money?” Mr. Edwards threatened.Jack was unmoved. “That’s why I’m here,” he said. “I am tired of running. I want to be free, I want to be able to pay you back all the money I stole from the company.”“And you are sure you will be able to pay that money even in your entire lifetime?”“The information I brought is worth more than your entire company. That is nothing compared to whatever I’m owing.&r
When Debby walked through the hospital that day with her things, everyone was looking at her, wondering why she was packing. She was so ashamed. Her life since she joined that hospital kept going up and down, from one trouble to another and now she is been sacked.“Life has been fucking unfair to me. So fucking unfair!” she cussed under her breath. From the corner of her eyes, she could see Joan smiling at her as she made her way through the door. She is probably happy that she lost once again. It was only Brian that came to help her with her things. He stood with her until she entered a taxi and left. She had wanted to go home to pick up her necklace after work before going over to Sebastian’s place but no more. The pain she was feeling was so much that only a good cry with her head on his broad chest could be the only remedy. If it were before, she would be thinking of going
It was a Monday morning already. It’s almost two days since Sophia my friend lured me to a club and made me get drunk. All through the weekend, I didn’t go home apart. I had several calls from Jakes saying he wanted to see me but after getting drunk, all the promises I made of coming home to see him were history. But there was something else. Before I left Sebastian’s house for work, he told me to stay away from my house as much as possible and also try to get Jakes to do so. I agreed. But I know I lied to him. I might not be going home to sleep, for the time being, moreover, I like being with him at all times. But I cannot let my necklace in the room. I need to get it.My dad gave it to me a few days before he died. He told me I would be needing that necklace one day but never told me why nor do I know what it would be useful for apart from just wearing it as an ornament. That’s
