LURKING ENEMY

Iris' POV

I stood there, feeling like I'd been punched in the gut, as Gavin's father walked away with a smug look on his face. His harsh words kept echoing in my mind, making my heart feel heavy and my thoughts a jumbled mess.

What did he mean when he said I wasn't welcome? Did he really dislike me that much? And what was Gavin hiding? His father's words made me wonder if I was just a pawn in some game Gavin was playing.

I tried to tell myself it didn't matter, that this was just a temporary arrangement, but the hurt and rejection I felt wouldn't go away. I felt like I'd been slapped in the face and couldn't shake off the sting. His father's dislike for me felt personal, and it hurt more than I expected.

I have heard of Mr Williams of the Russel family several times but never have I ever heard that he was hostile. Or maybe I didn’t know it all like I thought.
