4. Rabbit’s Name

His eyes were on me and he growled, making me jerk in my seat.

“Why is she here” he spat out

“She is Caren’s daughter”

“She is a rogue, and rogues are meant to be in the cell”

“Kai, she is not a rogue,” Preston said. I could feel the tension in the room.

I could not say anything although they were talking about me, I knew that anything I was going to say was not going to help me in this situation.

“You need not worry, I will take full responsibility for any of her actions” Preston tried to convince Kai.

Ignoring Preston, he walked to me, I feared what he was going to do next.

He grabbed my hands, pulled me off my seat, and dragged me out of the room. I looked at the rest of them sitting at the table, but it seemed that it could not be helped.

I turned to Kai who was furiously dragging me out of the room.

His grip on my hand was painful and it was the same bruised part of my wrist he held.

I don't know what is with the brothers and gripping my wrist like they were going to snap it.

Shawn had grabbed me the same way and it left a bruise and here I was being held the same way with the same wrist, and I was sure I wouldn't be able to use my hand for a while now.

Once we were outside the room, he pushed me to the wall as he held my hand above my head, on the wall, near my face with his iron clad grip.

“Who sent you?” he growled and I involuntarily shrank further into the wall.

“Answer me” he growled

“I don’t know what you mean.” It took every power in me not to shake in fear as I replied to him.

“Why are you in my pack?” his voice was cold.

Last time I recalled he captured me and brought me here, I never came here on my own accord, hell I did not even want to be in this house after finding out that the alpha brothers of the crescent pack lived here.

It seems giving him the obvious reply won’t help me in this situation.

His grip on my wrist tightened, I closed my eyes and inhaled sharply because of it. I could not even feel my wrist.

I felt him recoil his hand from my wrist and I opened my eyes to see him staring at the red wrist.

His eyes moved to what I was wearing and he gave a disgruntled sigh. I don’t know if he hated what I wore or if he did not like me at all. Well, it was obvious that he did not like me.

“Don’t think I will let you move freely in my pack” he warned and strutted off.

I breathed a sigh of relief that I did not know I was holding.

It felt suffocating being in his presence, I could hardly breathe.

I touched my bruised wrist, I was not fast at healing, so it was going to take a while before it healed.

I decided to go back to my room, I had lost my appetite, and he sure does have a great timing to interrupt me when I am about to eat.

My rabbit stew was ruined because he had captured me, and now he ruined my dinner.

Mum had married the former alpha of this pack, I don’t think I can even swallow anything with them in the room.

It seems they were all trying to hide their aura to not intimidate, it explains why I could not tell they were alphas.

If this was going to be my new home, I would have to walk on eggshells, because I know alphas are temperamental.

I got to my room, closing the door behind me, I slumped on my bed as I stared at the ceiling.

After finding out the alphas were going to be my brothers, I had wanted to leave the next morning but after much thought, it was going to be useful if I was planning to avenge my pack.

I heard a knock on my door, and I prayed it wasn’t any of the alphas, I don’t know if I would be able to confront them.

Getting up from the bed I strutted towards the door, and hesitated before opening it.

I was relieved to see the girl I had met earlier when I had arrived.

“The Alpha told me to give this to you” She was holding a bag as she stretched it towards me.

“Oh, and he also told me to give you this” It was an ointment. “Are you hurt”

“It’s nothing serious, and thanks” I replied and she bowed before leaving.

I closed my door as I sat on the bed before checking the contents of the bag.

There was a red floral dress in the bag.

I had forgotten to ask her which of the alpha’s had sent this, but I had a feeling it was Shawn, he had given me his shirt, and my wrist was bruised because of him.

I dropped the bag in the empty closet and applied the ointment on my wrist which was soothing. Before laying on the bed, it wasn’t hard for me to fall asleep immediately because the bed was more comfortable than the one I usually sleep in.

I woke up with a gnawing emptiness in my stomach, a reminder of the relentless hunger that had become my companion, I regretted not eating dinner last night but I was too shaken to do so.

After bathing and putting on the dress that Shawn had got for me, I was surprised it fit perfectly.

I dragged myself out of the room, my limbs heavy and weak and I trudged forward, in the big house. I had planned to locate the kitchen but I could not find it.

I heard the clanging of plates and moved in the direction.

I opened the brown door and finally saw the kitchen. There was a dining table at the other end of the kitchen which was smaller than the table I had seen last night.

The kitchen was big and it gave a warm vibe.

“You are awake” I was taken aback as I saw Kayden cooking.

I had not noticed that I was not the only one here. Preston was sitting at the table, he was wearing a brown striped tailored suit and was sipping coffee from a mug while reading a book.

Noticing that I was in the room, he looked up from the file, his gaze rested on me.

I don’t think I was prepared to be in the same room with any of the brothers.

I took a step back and was about to leave the room, but I felt a hand around my shoulder, making me flinch.

“Kayden is making breakfast” Mateo stood beside me with his hand on my shoulder.

“Oh, Good morning Amber,” he said cheerfully and I just gave him a tight lipped smile.

Kayden walked to the dining table with a plate of pancakes and maple syrup with strawberry and blueberry toppings. “You can tell the maid to make you something, I made this for Amber”

He smiled at me as he gestured for me to sit.

I walked towards him hesitantly as I sat on the chair, The smell of the pancakes wafted past my nose and I knew I would not be able to resist it.

“Is Kayden cooking today?” Shawn entered the room and was about to grab one of the pancakes but Kayden swapped his hand.

“I know you only cook to impress girls, but that doesn’t mean you should starve your brothers” Mateo complained, but Kayden ignored him.

My stomach grumbled loudly making everyone look at me and I lowered my head.

“You haven’t eaten since last night. Eat up” Kayden sat beside me.

“Are you scared?” Preston asked. He had lost interest in the book he was reading as he stared at me.

I quickly shook my head.

“You haven’t talked since you entered here” he was right.

“Do you think, it had something to do with last night”

“I think whatever Kai had said might have shaken her” Mateo and Shawn were conversing like I was not in the room.

“If you are scared of Kai, there is no need to”

“I think she is scared of us, it’s obvious, She wanted to leave immediately she entered here, and the fear in her eyes was not there yesterday” Preston pointed out. “If you are scared because we are alphas, you need not to be. We are your brothers, not your alpha, so you can talk to us freely”

He was right, I didn’t know why I was too scared, they are my stepbrothers after all.

Mateo grabbed a pancake, and Kayden held his hand.

“Come on, eating with her will make her feel at ease, am I right Amber” Mateo looked at me, pleading with me to cooperate with me and I did.

Kayden was reluctant to leave his hand but eventually did.

Nathan entered the kitchen, shirtless, as he strutted towards the dining table.

“Go put on a shirt Nathan, There is a female living in the house” Preston scolded, Nathan's eyes stopped at me and he gave me a confused look, before realizing who I was just as Preston lectured Nathan about being shirtless, Kai entered the room in only a towel, with his hair damp, and water glistening his body. He looked like he had just left the gym, his muscles aligned with his broad chest, and his abs looked sturdy with his v line peeping from his towel.

His body looked like he had never missed a workout day and it was really impressive seeing how his muscles flexed as he opened the refrigerator.

“At least I wasn’t the only one who forgot” Nathan took an apple from the table before leaving the room.

Kai ignored everyone, as he strutted towards the refrigerator and everyone stared at him, he took a bottle of water from the refrigerator.

“Do you think he knows Amber is here” Kayden whispered to Mateo, who nodded in response.

“Amber” the door flew open and I was surprised to see Mateo standing at the doorway.

But Mateo was sitting beside me, then who was at the doorway.

“That’s Marcus, Mateo's twin” Kayden answered, noticing my confused expression.

Mateo was a twin. They were really identical, they both had black spiky hair and their eyes were brown it would be difficult for anyone to differentiate them.

I noticed he was holding a white animal.

He walked Towards me with a smile. “It’s nice to finally meet you”

He was cheerful like Mateo

“Nice to meet you too”

“This is yours right” he was referring to the white animal in his hand which looks oddly family.

“I was told it was with you when you crossed the pack's border”

Oh, it was my dinner

“Rabbit stew” I exclaimed and Marcus gave me a surprised look.

Considering how clean the rabbit looked, I suddenly realized that he thought it was my pet.

The rabbit suddenly jumped on me and I was surprised that it still wanted to meet me when I had planned to kill it before, or maybe it thought I was protecting it when I was attacked.

“What’s your pet name, it should have a name right”

A name, it wasn’t even my pet, well I would have to decide on a name.

I looked around trying to figure out what I would name it without making it obvious that the rabbit was supposed to be my dinner.

“His name is…….. Kai '' I said and Kai, who was drinking from a bottle of water spat it out, and glared at me.
