Kayla’s POV

I looked at the number to see it was an ordinary one and not a palace number. At first I had fears that it would be him, but now I was convinced it wasn’t.

“Hello,” I answered, trying to be polite to the caller.

“Kayla?” his voice came on the line catching me by surprise. This was not why I had expected to hear.

“How did you get my number?”

“I’ve had it for a long time.”

“And you haven’t called?” I couldn’t believe my ears.

“There was no need to. You were always close by.”

This would be when I worked at the palace.

“Did you get the gifts I sent you?”

My eyes fell upon the letter on the bed. “Yes. Thank you. But you didn’t have to.”

“My driver will drive around to pick you up. I want us to go to the mountains.”

“I just got home.”
