Talia's POV

"Are the soups doubling?" The Inn owner's eyes widen, seeing each half-filled plate of soup doubling as fast as I can't even explain. The scene before me amazes me, but I compose myself quickly so he won't notice I'm as surprised as they are. Are the soups supposed to be doubling? The thought crosses my mind.

The name of the soup calls my attention to the reason this is happening. It is called Enchanted Stew of Plenty, which explains it better. I smile, meeting the owner's gaze as he gazes at me surprisingly, and then back to the plates of soups.

"Serve the guests now, please. It will take a long time before it finishes." I say, shoulders high and feeling myself for a job well done. The more the staff serve, the more the soup increases, and in no time, the Inn is filled with soups here and there, and everywhere is filled with food. Everyone is eating, and the Inn is becoming lively, unlike the moment we came earlier.

The Inn owner and his staff treat George and me like VIPs. We are given their best room, enjoying all the facilities in the Inn.

It is morning now, and we are set to leave, just as we step out of the Inn, the Inn owner rushes towards us. "Can you please wait here and work for me? I'll pay you any amount if you don't mind; the thing is, my clients loved the soup last night, and they want to have more of it." He pleads.

"I'm sorry, I can't. I have a destination, and that is certainly not here. I'd love to, left to me, but no thanks." Bidding farewell to the Inn owner who is still following us with his gaze, we set out, continuing the journey of no destination in the woods.

A part of me is afraid of what the future holds, while another part is grateful to Grandma, for allowing me to help a lot of people through the recipe book. This gives me a confirmation that I can be useful and that not a total waste like I was made to feel in my Pack.

"So where are we heading to now, Talia?" George who has been quiet since we left the Inn speaks,

"Nowhere, my dear, but we will surely get somewhere." I'm aware of the fact that he didn't understand my reply, but I am not in the mood for explanations right now. Moving ahead, we see a brook ahead of us, a sly smile creeping onto George's lips while calling my attention to it.

"Look, that brook ahead of us can serve as a resting place. Can we rest Talia? Even if it's for a short time. Please?" He begs, and for some seconds, I wonder why I decided to take him along in the first place.

"Okay, we'll take a short break."

As we are resting, our stomach begins to rumble at the same time, and we are feeling the urge to eat. I am confident now to try out another recipe from my book, so I search for another simple recipe. "Crunchy Nut Bars of Energy." Just what we need now. Energy to push through on this journey. The instructions are straightforward.

Ingredients

1. Rolled oats – 1 cup (easy to carry, nutritious).

2. Honey – 3 tablespoons (a natural sweetener and binder).

3. Mixed nuts – ½ cup (e.g., almonds, cashews, or peanuts, pre-chopped).

4. Dried fruits – ¼ cup (e.g., raisins or chopped dates for sweetness and energy).

5. Peanut butter – 2 tablespoons (optional, for extra flavour and binding).

Equipment

A small cooking pot or tin.

A spoon for mixing.

Wax paper or leaves to set the bars.

Steps to Prepare

1. Set up

Find a flat surface and gather a few stones to stabilize the cooking pot over a small fire. Alternatively, use a portable camping stove if available.

2. Mix the base ingredients:

Combine rolled oats, mixed nuts, and dried fruits in the pot. Stir them well.

3. Heat the binder:

Warm the honey (and peanut butter, if using) gently in the pot. Stir until it becomes a smooth, sticky mixture.

4. Combine everything:

Pour the warm honey mixture over the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly until everything is evenly coated.

5. Shape the bars:

Spread the mixture onto a piece of wax paper or smooth it into a flat layer on a clean leaf. Press it down firmly to pack it tightly.

6. Cool and set:

Place the mixture in a shaded spot near the brook to cool for about 10–15 minutes. If the brook is shallow and cool, the bars can be set on a clean, flat rock near the water.

7. Cut and store:

Once firm, cut into bar shapes and wrap individually for easy snacking during the journey.

Magical Incantation for "Crunchy Nut Bars of Energy"

*By the brook where waters flow,

Grant this meal a vibrant glow.

With oats of strength and sweet honey,

Infuse this mix with energy's beat.

Nuts of wisdom, fruits of light,

Empower all who take a bite.

Bind these gifts with nature's charm,

To shield the weary from all harm.

Moonlight's grace and the sun's warm rays,

Bless these bars for endless days.

Crunch and chew, let spirits rise,

Magic crafted, energize!*

We are done with the preparation now, and I have recited the magical incantations. As we are eating, a strange rumble in the bush nearby causes us to sit up on high alert.

"Did you hear that sound?" George asks, tensed and almost jumping off the stone he's sitting on.

"Yes I do, but it's probably a stray insect or so. You don't need to panic, eat up and let's continue the journey. I'm certain we will find a place to stay very soon." I assure.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a mischievous squirrel jumps out from behind me, and before I can say, Jack, it snatches my bag and the Crunchy Nut Bars I am holding. Dashing into the woods, I give it an immediate chase, following it up and down in the woods.

It keeps circling the woods while I and George follow. "Hey give me the bag, you can have the Crunchy bags! Just give the bag back to me!" I am screaming, but this mischievous squirrel doesn't seem to understand the importance of the bag in its custody.

I stop my chase, panting and frustrated. That squirrel was no ordinary rodent-it was cunning and fast and seemed to delight in taunting me. I glance at George, who's doubled over too, trying to catch his breath.

"This is insane!" George gasps, wiping his sweaty face. "What are we going to do, Talia? The recipe book is in that bag!"

My heart beats faster. I can't let some cheeky squirrel scamper away with what seems like my inheritance.

Then a realization hits me. A recipe I can use to make the squirrel come out of wherever it's hiding. "Heh, squirrel? You want food, Hun? I'll give you some now." I yell into the thin air.

"George," I say, calming my breath, "we're not going to chase it anymore."

He looks at me like I've lost my mind. "Why not?"

"No," I reply with a grin. "We're going to outsmart it. Fetch me those extra nuts and fruits we didn't use earlier. I'll prepare something irresistible."

I pull out the recipe book's magical memory from my brain. "Nutty Trail"

Ingredients for Nutty Trail:

1. Mixed nuts – a handful.

2. Dried fruits – a handful.

3. Crushed crackers or breadcrumbs (optional).

4. Honey – just a drizzle.

I grab what we have left: a handful of nuts, some dried fruits, and a few crumbs George finds at the bottom of his pocket.

"Watch this," I whisper, focusing on the task.

I sprinkle the nuts and fruits on the ground, drizzling the honey in a trail leading to an open clearing.

The Incantation for Nutty Trail

Little thief of forest skies,

Here's a treat you can't despise.

Nuts and fruits, a tempting prize,

Come to a feast where bounty lies.

I can feel the magic working from the tingling of the air.

"Now we wait," I whisper to George, pulling him behind a tree.

The squirrel shows up in less than two minutes, its nose twitching as it smells the air. It scurries along the trail, grabbing each piece of nut and fruit, looking more relaxed with every bite. When it gets closer to the clearing, I see my bag hanging on its back like a prize.

"Come on, just a little further," I murmur.

It finally reaches the end of the trail, where I've placed the large walnut as big as its head. Greedy little thing can't resist.

As soon as it's occupied with cracking the walnut, I pounce.

"Gotcha!" I yell, grabbing the bag. The squirrel squeaks in protest, scurrying away into the bushes with the walnut still in its mouth.

George cheers, clapping like a kid. "Talia, you're a genius! That was amazing!"

I sling the bag over my shoulder, feeling triumphant. "You learn a few things when your life revolves around food magic."

"What is that place?" George questions, pointing towards a direction.

Talia's POV Even without a wolf, I can smell wolves around. And I'm thinking the town ahead is a wolf territory. Panic sets in again because I aim to settle in a human world since the Moon Goddess has decided not to give me a wolf. I suddenly remembered the lie I told George about me, and since we were going to be together for some time, I think he deserves to know the truth."George," I begin, stopping him in his tracks. "There's something you need to know about me. I will need you to pay attention and try not to judge me ok?" "Don't leave me, Talia. I already know you're not human, if that's what you're planning to tell me." He clarifies, giving me a knowing look.I freeze. "Hun! How do you know? What do I look like to you?" How come he knew all this while and never told me anything about it? This revelation makes me question the kind of person George is. "Are you wondering how I knew you were a wolf?" George interrupts my thoughts and I nearly slip hearing those words from him.

Alpha Axton's POV"Alpha, I think we should go back now. We've come a long way and haven't even found any herb that can be useful, let alone a healer." Dane suggests tiredly, but I ignore him. He is speaking that way because he's tired I'm sure. The responsibilities of running a normal Pack are high, let alone a Pack of Misfits, where we all don't have a wolf.I know I have a lot to do to protect my Pack members from rouges attack. I'm trying here, but I guess I'm not just trying enough. I had gone on a trip for days and came back to meet half of my security men on their sick beds, been attacked by rogues while I was away. Now I have to get herbs or they die which I wouldn't forgive myself if this happens."Alpha, are you paying attention at all? You've been hurt too by that animal we met hours ago. We need to take care of your wounds. I'll advise we go back to the Pack and allow healer Ryda. He can...""Enough!" I halt him, raising my rolled fist for effect. "I don't want to hear tha

Talia's POV It's been days since we fell from the hill and were saved by Alpha Axton and his men; we are now perfectly fine. Alpha Axon and his people have been nothing but kind to me and George. With his help, I was able to get a loving human family to adopt George so they could give him the good things he deserves in life.Today, I'm being discharged from the hospital, now going to the hotel Alpha Axton prepared for me. I'm still thinking, still trying to figure out if this is the Misfit Town George talked about. I look outside through the car window, enjoying the ride and admiring the beauty of this town. Their houses are made from twisted wood and glowing stones, and the streets are lined with flowers that emit soft, calming light. But despite the beauty of the town, I can feel the mysterious looks of the inhabitants as I meet some people's gaze through their windows."Here we are, ma'am," the driver announces, opening the door for me to alight. I was so lost in my thoughts that

Bran's POV "Alpha, we should do something about this issue now and right here. We can't cross our fingers and watch our pups die just like that." A council member is finally speaking after several seconds of murmuring between them. I watch in silence, not because I'm weak or because I don't know what to say, but because I can't seem to figure out where all these are coming from."We've always respected you and your decisions since you were chosen to be our Alpha, but your silence in this issue is painting another picture." His gaze returns to the other council members like he is asking for their permission to proceed, and they nod, giving him the go-ahead to speak. "We can't help but think that there's something you have done wrong to bring us this calamity. Selene is angry at us for something done wrong. If not, why would our sacrifices not have been accepted by the moon goddess after a series of attempts, and she keeps on striking us with death and rogue attacks?" I look into spac

Did he think I'm going to allow him to show up here and destroy everything I've worked hard for? For some weeks now, he has been on my tail, telling me lies in the name of custom, "rouges can't be born outside their territory", and who cares about that fucking custom? I have to make him leave before Bran comes out. That might arouse suspicions in him, and I wouldn't want that. "Leave now!" I shout again, but it seems this is not going to work. "Do you think I'll leave without you going with me? You don't belong here; you belong to us...well, till that pup comes to this world." Talia's POV I stand swiftly as the footsteps are approaching, the sound louder now as if the person is coming closer. I glance around and find a stray log, big and thick enough to break someone's head in case they're enemies. I don't recollect speaking to anyone except Alpha Axton, his guards, driver and some of his maids. Maybe it's one of them though. I'm tempted to let my guard down, but I brace again, holding the log with my two hands on high alert in case it's not any of them. "Aaarrrrr!!!" We both are screaming, I close my eyes, lifting the log so high that it falls back behind me due to its heaviness. I open my eyes slowly to meet the gaze of a pretty lady; she should be in her mid-twenties like me. Her cute eyes widen in fear and her trembling hand is holding a beautiful flower."Hi..." Are you just going to stand there watching me go around looking like this?" I rant, but to be fair-Jasper has tried, but the smoke won't budge."Talia, you know you look good in purple." Luna teases, casting me a smiley, almost laughing look."Uhm..uhm, let me try again." Jasper rummages his bag one more time. "I got it yeah," he exclaims, bringing out a fish-like small little container."Have this, Talia; it's a scientific soap; it will wipe the smoke off your body and return your normal colour." "Uhmm, Jasper, are you sure Talia is not going to turn pink completely after bathing with this soap of yours?" Luna questions scratching the back of her head. This is something I can't share with anyone. At least until I figure out what it is.As Alpha Axton gets nearer, I feel this weird tingle all over-like someone just flipped a switch. The power goes out. That powerful energy and overwhelming force? They're gone for good.I blink and stretch my fingers, feeling a bit shocked. My recipe book is not just a bunch of old family recipes. It's more powerful than I think. What happened yesterday was funny, but at the same time is pointing my attention to something I might not be aware of in this recipe book.I remember the Fluffy traveler's bread recipe, the enchanted stew of plenty, There's a chance it could get dangerous. But I still feel that adrenaline pumping inside me.I've never felt this way before; it's like I finally have something that's truly mine. The moment the guard calls Alpha Axton, tensions arise in me, and I can't help but wonder what the urgency is all about. I've just decided to stay here in the Misfit town. Have I made the right decision?Alpha Axton's relaxed stance vanishes and he immediately replaces it with a commanding tone. "What is it?""There's an incident at the border." The guard's voice is urgent. "You're needed immediately."Alpha Axton turns to face me, and I can already see the concern in his eyes; I nod permissively, and, with a nod, too, he turns on his heels and strides off, his cloak blowing behind him. I watch him disappear into the night, questions ringing in my head. An incident and what kind? But before my thoughts can spiral too far, Luna appears at my side, bumping her shoulder against mine and rolling her eyes. Talia's POV Axton is gazing at me steadily, and even at that, I still can't read him; something tells me whatever he's planning to say is not going to hurt me, but how can I even listen to that when the only words I have ever heard from Alpha's like him are words of rejection. My head pounds with the expectations of what he is about to say, but I remain calm. Que sera sera. The festival hums around laughter, music, and distant clatter of plates- but at this moment, it feels like it's just the two of us, standing at the edge of something that neither of us can quite define."I see potential in you, Talia," he says finally. "You belong here more than you think. Do you want to stay here with us?"I let out a slow breath. "I don't know." It's the most honest answer I can give. The wolves here are kind, but I still can't bring myself to the conclusion. Not until I'm convinced that I will be fine here. Talia's POV The festival is nothing short of magical. Lanterns glow softly, casting golden light over the town square. Long wooden tables are set up, covered in platters of food so delicious that my stomach growls just looking at them. Music drifts through the air, played by a group of werewolves with makeshift instruments, their laughter and voices filling the night.People dance, their movements are uncoordinated but full of joy. No one seems to care about looking perfect. There's freedom in that, a kind of wild happiness. Then comes the communal meal.I sit at a table surrounded by my new friends. Luna, Jasper, Finn, and even Greta-who I have since learned are not as terrifying as she looks (though still slightly terrifying). The food is delicious, but my appetite dwindles one by one, and people start sharing their stories."I was born the runt of my litter," an older werewolf named Rowan says, his deep voice carrying across the table.
