Angelina finally let loose all of the tears that she had been restraining since Stella’s departure. This man had caused her the greatest harm possible. He had destroyed any possibility of her finding joy in life.

Those hot and stinking lots had cemented that ruin, and at this point, she had no idea how to get her footing back on firm ground.

She drew a deep breath before inching her way closer to him. “I will make you pay, Spike. But before we get to that, you need to explain to me why you chose not to work with me in the first place. You will tell me why you did what you did.” She did so in an unruffled manner.

As soon as she finished speaking those words, she immediately turned her back to him and fled the dungeon. She made her way through the corridors leading to the dungeon and then back out into the courtyard as quickly as she could.
