WENDY’S POV

At the mention of that b***h’s name, I halted in my tracks. My terrified expression instantly turned into a grimace as I thundered, “So this is what it is about?”

Listowel’s angry face and demeanor remained unchanged as he demanded, “ I said. What were you doing at Melissa’s house ?”

“Oh… she called to tell you that I went there. Isn't it? So you've been talking with her over the phone behind my—”

“Wendy! Answer my question!”

“Listowel! What in the world has that bitch done to you? You don’t even care about the fact that you threw me, your fiancée, out of your office like a piece of trash without a fl—,” I shouted back but my voice faltered midway.

“Why are you worried about her instead of me? What does she have that I don’t have?,” I asked in a low tone, my eyes instantly turning red as they welled up with tears.

“Don’t change the topic, Wendy. What right do you think you have for you to go over to her house and threaten her?” Listowel asked again, ignorin

WENDY’S POV Clinton chuckled mockingly and asked, “Who on earth dared to step on the almighty Macinni’s toes?” “Are you going to help me or not?” I snapped. Clinton is jovial by nature but this many questions of his were actually wearing out my patience. My chest tightened in anger as I awaited his response. “Chill… have I ever said no to you before? You came to me because you know I will do it, innit?” A triumphant smirk tugged at the sides of my lips at his acceptance. Clinton, my sneaky link, is the jovial type. He will always joke around whenever I ask him for a favor but he ends up doing it always. “But, wait. I hope you're not thinking I will do it for free. This thing is not easy to come by and—” “How much will it be?” His words died on his lips as I interrupted. I will send you the cost and the other details over text message…” Rolling my eyes, “Gosh!! I know you are dumb but I didn't think it was to this extent. Do you want to send it via sms? Do I loo

LISTOWEL’S POV The throbbing of my head woke me up this morning. I can't really tell if it is because of the alcohol I took in last night or not. But all that I know was that the pain was too unbearable for me to keep on laying down. Bending over the kitchen counter, I occasionally sipped the medicinal tea that I just finished boiling and took my phone and started scrolling through business feeds and blogs. The medicinal tea bags are from my grandma. For years now, even though I have workers who come around each weekend, my grandma still insists on sending me side dishes. It wasn’t until recently that she added medicines and gins to it. The ringing of my doorbell pulled me out of my thoughts. From the front door camera, I could see the workers who clean my house every weekend had arrived. I opened the door and allowed them in. “Good morning sir,” the oldest among them all greeted me as they strode to the storage room. “Good morning,” I answered and headed upstairs. A

LISTOWEL’S POV I slowed down my pace so that I could keep a safe distance. I know how worked out she's going to be if she sees me. And that would be the last thing I will want to happen. Occasionally stealing glances at her, my chest ached from longing. Just when I was about to avert my gaze from hers, I witnessed an unusual encounter. A man, suspiciously wearing a black playsuit approached Melissa.MELISSA’S POVMy previous encounter with Wendy had me boiling with anger even when after I woke up this morning. I’ve always lived my life without regrets but currently, I’m beginning to hate the day I accepted LISTOWEL’S offer to be his contract wife. Yes, it is true that my life was rocky and gloomy at that time but the consequences of getting involved with Listowel are gradually becoming overwhelming. After much reflection on the chaotic life I’ve had these past few days, I decided to descend to the park downstairs and exercise a bit while getting things off my mind. MELISSA’S POV The wailing of sirens filled the air. At long last, the paramedics were here. I wiped the tears on my face before turning to look in the way of the ambulance. “Hang in there okay, you'll be treated soon,” I said in a tone that was so comforting for someone I claim to hate. The crowd pointed in our direction and the ambulance also followed along. Some men in their uniforms brought out a wheel bed that had IV drips attached to it. When they reached our side, they carried Listowel from my lap and put him on the bed before moving him to the car. “Are you coming along?” one of them asked when he realized I was standing still staring at them with tears in my eyes. “Yes, yes,” I responded before rushing to board the ambulance as well. In the ambulance, I knelt beside him while rubbing the back of his palms. Staring at Listowel’s face, a pang of guilt pierced through my heart causing me to pray silently that nothing bad happens to him. WENDY’S POV Laying do

WENDY’S POV Clinton attempted to calm me down but I didn't budge. Not until I have gotten to know why the person saved Melissa. “Is there a possibility that it was deliberate or perhaps an accident?” This question kept pricking my mind several times so I knew I had to get answers to it by hook or crook. Grabbing my phone, “Enter his number,” I demanded, shoving it into Clinton’s hands. “Whose number?” my blood started boiling as he asked. I cut him a deadly glare which immediately got him back to his senses. His fingers tapped lightly on the keyboard as he entered his boy’s contact. Snatching the phone and pressing it to my ears, I rushed my hands through my hair as I waited for him to answer. Soon, “Hello?” Clinton’s guy deep voice resounded from the other line. “Yeah… it's Wendy. Can you give me more details on the guy that came to save Melissa? Was it an accident or deliberate action?” “Ummm… I can't tell if he is related to the Melissa girl or whatever her na

MELISSA’S POV “You will need to wait here, ma’am.” This is what the doctor had told me when they sent Listowel to the theatre two hours ago. I had to sign the authorization form by myself. Just as Listowel had instructed. He refused to give out any of his relative's contacts so I just had to do it. My left foot consistently tapped on the floor as I anxiously waited for the operation to be over. Everything in me can attest to the fact that this is the longest two hours of my life. I've been staring at the entrance to the Theatre for hours now, hoping that at least a nurse would walk through the door and tell me Listowel is fine. Just when I was about to avert my gaze, the door finally swung open. My heart leaped into my throat as I stood up on my feet and rushed towards the doctor. “How is he doing? Is he still in pain?” The words flew out of my mouth as fast as I thought of it. “Please calm down. Mr. Gordon is stable now.” The nurse revealed and I instantly felt as i

MELISSA’S POV My fingers halted in their tracks as Listowel’s eyes suddenly flared open. Without a second thought, I withdrew my hands from his face but he managed to hold my wrist mid-air. “Could it be that he heard me?” I thought in my head as I tried to wrestle myself free from his grip. Clearing my throat, “you're awake?” I nervously asked, my voice shaking. A smile swept across Listowel’s face as his gaze swung left and right on my face. “You… you’re here,” he mumbled. I felt relieved as soon as his deep voice hit my ears. My vision was blurred with tears as I answered him, “Of course I will be here. You nearly died because of me, you idiot.” The smile on his face broadened and something flickered in his eyes when he noticed that I was crying. “Why are you crying? Which of us is the patient here?” he teased. Sniffing back, I replied, “I’m not crying. It just… hormones..” His hand shot up, wiping the tears from the corner of my eyes. “Melissa,” he weakly mention

LISTOWEL’S POV I sat upright on my bed, scrolling through my phone as Melissa also lay down on the couch. I noticed the stress drawn all over her face so I asked her to sleep for a while. My mind trailed back to the sheet Melissa had handed to me earlier. When Melissa asked me if it was content, I had lied to her that it wasn’t anything important and that the jerk who had poured the acid on me was probably writing a love letter to his lover. Melissa didn’t press further. We only laughed it off and I guess I was able to convince myself it is no big deal. When in actual fact, my heart has been pounding with rage. I’ve always known Wendy to be a bitter person but I never expected her to go to the extent of deforming someone. Paying someone to deform a rival is no different from murder. If she had the mind to do this, killing off someone would be a small thing for her. Since the criminal is on the run, I might not get anything to use against her. No. I have to catch tha

A wave of gasps erupted from the people around me as the liquid drenched my designer dress, turning the white fabric into red.My lips parted widely, my eyes closing shut as the wine dripped from my hair to my face and onto my dress. I froze. For a moment, I couldn’t move or utter a word. Was I just hallucinating or that dang old bat had poured the wine on me?I let out a slow breath, my fingers curling into a fist beside me as I stood properly. “What the hell do you think you’re—“ I yelled, but my statement died on my lips as her palm vehemently clashed against my cheek. My head snapped to the side, my hair flying everywhere as the sting spread through my face. My hands shot up to caress the area she had just slapped, glaring at her with deadly fury. Whispering, the onlookers started inching closer to the scene; their phones shot up in the air as they started recording. I raised my hand, intending to return the favor. These people were recording and I hate to be the one at the m

WENDY’S POV Tonight made it exactly a month since Listowel woke up in my bed. I had sent the photos to Melissa to get a reaction out of her. But to my surprise; she never reached out as I expected. I was even doubting she must have seen the photos until I witnessed Listowel being thrown out of her house by security two weeks ago. Only the heavens know how happy I was that day when I realised my plan had worked. Their so called lovely relationship had crumbled. I had this in mind and was in the process of planning my next move not knowing the blow that hanged in the air, waiting to be served. I was dining at the rooftop restaurant, when the articles of Listowel admitting that Melissa is the lady he’s been going out with circulated the internet. The people around had started murmuring among themselves so I had requested to change to a private dinning room. The music played softly in the background while the symphony of clinking glasses, people conversing over their foods an

MELISSA’S POV My phone buzzed with messages as my colleagues from work texted to inquire if I was really dating the famous ‘Listowel Gordon’. Who the fvck released these images and how the hell did the person get them? My mind raced with thoughts as mixed feelings wrestled to take over me. I couldn't really tell how I was feeling. I didn't know whether to be happy or pissed. Unlike before, people were admiring me now. They were somehow glad that we were a couple and wished that our relationship would prosper. Really? What changed? Why were they happy for us all of a sudden? Well, this and other thoughts swirled in my mind as I tried to connect the dots. The fact that the pictures that were trending were personal ones I took with Listowel baffled me. Unless maybe Listowel got hacked, I’m not sure he will release the photos like that without informing. Even though I wasn't getting immediate answers, I was glad this in some way had cleared rumors. For weeks now, I have

LISTOWEL’S POVI let out a long exhale as I read through the articles about Melissa and I. Surprisingly, all the comments we were receiving are all good and encouraging. Unlike the previous months, the people were complimenting our resilience to have kept our relationship going despite everything. The articles were spammed with people admiring Melissa’s beauty. Even though I didn't like the fact that they were comparing her to Wendy; I was happy either ways that she was getting the good recognition she deserved. With a smile on my face, I scrolled through each comment, liking each compliment. Suddenly, a sharp knock echoed outside of my door. My brows knitted together as I wondered who could have been at the office at this time aside Kevin and I. Glancing at my wrist, I noticed it was a few minutes past eight. I was about signalling Kevin to go check who it was when the door flung open. The audacity! Who enters my office with such disrespect?! My eyes darted the doorway, as I p

LISTOWEL’S POV Listowel, do I look stupid to you?” Lisa’s voice jolted me back to reality, anger flashing across her face as she crossed her arms over. My lips parted, and I was about to tell her that she was the smartest person I've ever known and that I was the stupid one there. Because all this was my fault. I was stupid for failing to see the signs of Wendy’s plot when it was so obvious. I couldn't believe how stupid I was to have ignored the fact that, Webdy had seductively rubbed her shoulders against mine that evening. But before the words could part my lips, she grabbed her bag and stood. “You know what? I don't have time for your little games…” I reached for her hand but once again, she pulled away as though I was a plague. I wanted to follow her but stopped. I was going to give her some distance in the meantime. Now that a major part of the puzzle has been revealed, it will take me no more than a few days to find out the whole truth. ********** With a fo

LISTOWEL’S POV I have faced several challenges in my life, from impossible negotiations to dealing with rival businesses but none of them have taken a toll on me as the one that I have been currently battling. This one was the worst kind of battle. Why? Because I was fighting the one person I loved most. And it looks as if there wasn’t any chance of me winning. For the past few weeks, after the event that happened at Melissa all my attempts to get her to listen to me have proved futile. There have been days that I’ve tried to reach her by waiting at her doorstep, but I couldn’t anymore because she reported me to the landlord and now I’ve been banned from entering her residence till further notice. I tried to catch up with her at work but her goddamn boss, Giovanni has had security chase me away several times. Even though it was humiliating, I was willing to endure it all for her. I could have countered Giovanni’s actions by making my men oppose him but the fact

MELISSA’S POV It's been almost a month since I broke things up with Listowel. That jerk! After chasing me up for a few days, he gradually backed off. I guess he must have finally realized that I am no bvtch to be toyed with. But I must admit, the past few weeks have not been easy for me. Waking up every day to pretend as if I did not know or had anything to do with him has been heartbreaking. I try to convince myself that he's not worth my time and energy but deep within me, I've been hurting. On lonely nights, I cry my eyes out before I’m able to sleep. There have been days that I felt like calling to cry on him, to tell him how much he hurt me, to explain to him why I didn't deserve all that he did to me; but the fact that I had deleted his contact from my phone had saved me from embarrassing myself. Within the first two weeks, I was unable to concentrate at work; but Mr. Giovanni, already aware of the turmoil in my life, helped to keep me distracted from overthinking. H

GIOVANNI’S POV Seeing Melissa cry her heart out the other day in the office made me want to care for her more. I had offered to walk her to the garage because of the tear stains on her dress. I didn’t want her to attract unnecessary attention and questions from the other staff. At the garage, I was about to head back to the office after waving her goodbye when I suddenly heard a consistent click from the soles of heels behind me. Curious, I turned in the direction of the sound only to see Melissa rushing towards the other side of the garage. My eyes trailed to the direction she was heading and an unsettling feeling washed over me as soon as I recognized who it was. Listowel Gordon. The CEO of Gordon Constructions. Even though he might not know me, I know him very well. We’ve not gotten the chance to meet face to face yet but I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a smart business mogul whom most influential people in Aphrodite City admire. And I am no exception. When it

Melissa’s pov I froze for a second, my eyes scanning at his messy appearance. I couldn't really tell if my eyes were deceiving me or if Listowel had actually left his house to come to work dressed like that! His hair looked like it hadn't been washed for a decade. He looked ravished, his coat was crumpled, and his loose tie hung off his untucked shirt. What’s wrong with him? Why would he step out looking so unkempt like that? This was so unlike him. Without a second thought, I turned off the engine and ran in his direction. “Listowel? What’s wrong with you? Why would you come out looking like this?” I whispered, my hands hovering across his suit as I tried to straighten the crumpled lines. Scanning his whole outfit, I unconsciously reached for his tie and started fixing it up, buttoning up the shirt properly after which I tucked it inside his pants. Listowel stood still, he didn't move nor utter a word, it was only his gaze that followed my movements. I was abou
