MELISSA’S POV

“You will need to wait here, ma’am.” This is what the doctor had told me when they sent Listowel to the theatre two hours ago.

I had to sign the authorization form by myself. Just as Listowel had instructed.

He refused to give out any of his relative's contacts so I just had to do it. My left foot consistently tapped on the floor as I anxiously waited for the operation to be over.

Everything in me can attest to the fact that this is the longest two hours of my life. I've been staring at the entrance to the Theatre for hours now, hoping that at least a nurse would walk through the door and tell me Listowel is fine.

Just when I was about to avert my gaze, the door finally swung open. My heart leaped into my throat as I stood up on my feet and rushed towards the doctor.

“How is he doing? Is he still in pain?” The words flew out of my mouth as fast as I thought of it.

“Please calm down. Mr. Gordon is stable now.” The nurse revealed and I instantly felt as i

MELISSA’S POV My fingers halted in their tracks as Listowel’s eyes suddenly flared open. Without a second thought, I withdrew my hands from his face but he managed to hold my wrist mid-air. “Could it be that he heard me?” I thought in my head as I tried to wrestle myself free from his grip. Clearing my throat, “you're awake?” I nervously asked, my voice shaking. A smile swept across Listowel’s face as his gaze swung left and right on my face. “You… you’re here,” he mumbled. I felt relieved as soon as his deep voice hit my ears. My vision was blurred with tears as I answered him, “Of course I will be here. You nearly died because of me, you idiot.” The smile on his face broadened and something flickered in his eyes when he noticed that I was crying. “Why are you crying? Which of us is the patient here?” he teased. Sniffing back, I replied, “I’m not crying. It just… hormones..” His hand shot up, wiping the tears from the corner of my eyes. “Melissa,” he weakly mention

LISTOWEL’S POV I sat upright on my bed, scrolling through my phone as Melissa also lay down on the couch. I noticed the stress drawn all over her face so I asked her to sleep for a while. My mind trailed back to the sheet Melissa had handed to me earlier. When Melissa asked me if it was content, I had lied to her that it wasn’t anything important and that the jerk who had poured the acid on me was probably writing a love letter to his lover. Melissa didn’t press further. We only laughed it off and I guess I was able to convince myself it is no big deal. When in actual fact, my heart has been pounding with rage. I’ve always known Wendy to be a bitter person but I never expected her to go to the extent of deforming someone. Paying someone to deform a rival is no different from murder. If she had the mind to do this, killing off someone would be a small thing for her. Since the criminal is on the run, I might not get anything to use against her. No. I have to catch tha

A few minutes after assisting Listowel to climb back into his bed, the nurse from earlier entered, her breath rugged. As soon as her eyes fell on me, she asked, “Oh miss.. where have you been? I was looking everywhere for you. I thought you’ve even left your boyfriend behind ....” Listowel and I looked at each other’s faces before I turned back at the nurse. “Oh, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I just stepped out for fresh air. Also, we are not a couple. He’s not my boyfriend. We’re just acquainted,” I clarified with a straight face. “Sorry, ma’am. My mistake..” “It is fine dear.” By the way, the doctor has a message for you. “Me?” I asked, stunned. “Yes, please. I will do you the honor and break it to you since he’s not here..,” Sure.” Considering Mr. Gordon’s current condition, she commenced, ” The doctor thinks it will be best to have someone he’s familiar with to assist with this recovery at home even if it is just tonight. WENDY’S POV I've been refreshing my phone for the past two hours, hoping to come across an article covering LISTOWEL’S injury. But not even a single article was published about him. Heaving a sigh for the nth today, I tossed my phone aside and leaned into the chair. The utterance I had with Clinton filled my memory as I closed my eyes. Clinton was adamant about not allowing me to go out not to even talk of going to the hospital. He locked the room and threw the keys into his pockets, but I was still not having it. I wanted to go out and see how Listowel was doing. It took the intervention of an attendant at the hotel who came to open the with spare keys after hearing me bang on the door for help; to I was able to go out. I was even more pissed when I realized, Clinton, in fact, wasn't concerned about my safety at all. He only needed me to stay put so that his so-called, “competent” boy won’t be in trouble. I stormed out of the guest and headed to the hospital. Bani Me

WENDY’S POV It’s been fifteen minutes since I came to the Gordon Mansion. Grandma and I have been waiting for feedback from his men for a while now but still nothing. The old lady has been pacing up and down, asking for the progress of their search every three minutes. A buzz from her phone garnered our attention. We all turned our heads in the direction of the phone, anticipating what it was. Grandma picked it up and her face lightened up as she read what was on the screen. From her expression, I could tell it was good news. The men might have been able to locate Listowel. Just then, “They’ve found him!” She exclaimed with joy. “Really? Where is he?” I asked with a broad smile. But within me, I could feel my anxiety bubbling up. They said he was—.” She was still talking when her phone rang, causing her to pause. She gestured for me to hold on before swiping on the phone screen to answer the call. “Alright, that’s good. Tell him to call me when he’s changed. Bye

WENDY’S POV As we sat in the car, driving back to her mansion, Madam Gordon inched closer to me and placed my hands in hers. Smiling from wall to wall, she asked, “What do you think of having the wedding by the end of this month?” My eyes shot up in disbelief and it met hers. Was she for real? Was she the one seriously setting up the wedding date this time? My heart pounded against my ribcage in delight as I parted my lips and exclaimed, “ Really? I will be the happiest woman on earth if the wedding finally pulls through,” Patting the back of my hands, she said, “I will also be more than glad to have you as granddaughter-in-law.” Tears welled up in my eyes as she said those words. What changed? After all these years, Madam Gordon has finally recognized my efforts and wants me to be his granddaughter-in-law. “Thank you so much,” I said and opened my arms to hug her. “Wendy dear, you're the perfect wife for my grandson. MELISSA’S POV Waking up, I blinked severally as the morning light hit my eyes. My eyes darted around for a while as I stretched my body but then something hit me in the process, causing my arm to half midway. This wasn’t the guest room where I had gone to sleep. My breath caught in my throat when I realized I was in the master bedroom How did I get here? I sat up quickly, the silky duvet slipping down my body while I continued to glance around, trying to make sense of the situation. My legs swung over the side of the bed as I attempted to stand up. My heart jumped when my gaze landed on him. Listowel was sleeping on the couch, his tall figure awkwardly trying to fit in. One arm dangled off the side, and his head rested at an uncomfortable angle against the armrest. The blanket half-covered him, and his usually commanding presence was replaced by an innocent child-like expression. I froze, unsure of how to process the sight before me. “What is he doing here? An

LISTOWEL’S POV The scent of freshly brewed coffee lingering in the air woke me up. Rubbing my temples, I frowned and let out a groan when I tried to stretch myself. I could feel the ache in my arms but that was the least of my worries. I wanted to go downstairs and have some of the coffee. As I came out, my eyes caught the neatly set breakfast table. A plate of scrambled eggs, toast, and a cup of coffee sat waiting. For a moment, everything felt like the olden days. This was how Melissa treated me. She would wake up early before and prepare breakfast all the time. She always made sure I had eaten before I set off to work. But the last time I got to eat her meal or woke up to see this setup was the day I announced Wendy’s return to her. Oh, how stupid I was. “Melissa…” I murmured, a small smile tugging at the corner of my lips as I descended the stairs. But as I approached the table, the smile faded. A folded note lay beside the cup. My heart sank even before I opened it,

WENDY’S POV A glint of hope flashed in my eyes as he went inside the shop. Was he getting them for me? Does he plan on visiting me today? Gosh… I should have stayed home and waited for him to surprise me. My heart swelled with excitement and I became even more certain that they were mine when he picked a bouquet of white lilies. Oh my God. They are my favorites. I've given so many hints on my social media pages that I love lilies. But I didn't expect it to have caught Listowel’s attention. My heart raced faster in my chest as I watched him pay for the flowers before returning back to his car. Was Listowel going to apologize for the humiliation he put me through? “Yes..yes.. He is,” a little voice in my head replied, causing me to giggle to myself. Tucking the loose strands that were hanging on my face behind my ears, I admired my reflection in the dashboard mirror before starting the car. A thought flashed in my mind while I continued tailing Listowel’s car.

MELISSA’S POV Immediately the clock struck five, I packed up my stuff into my bag and hurried off downstairs. I couldn't wait and go home to celebrate this massive win with my family; Nancy and Crystal. I can only imagine their shocked yet excited faces when they hear this. While exiting the forecourt of Legalstone, I waved to the colleagues I met on the way goodbye till I got to my car. Staring into thin space, I heaved a sigh as I started the engine. The traffic in town was kind of hectic but managed to pull through. Coming to a stop in front of the apartment complex where I reside, I turned off the engine and hurried to my house. The cozy smell of the scented candles I had put on the shelves in the hallway leading to my house filled my nose as soon as I walked out of the elevator. As I was approaching my house, I noticed something unusual on the floor right in front of my door. I took a few steps closer to check what it was. As soon as my eyes fell on it, I st

MELISSA’S POV My senses heightened as I slowly inhaled the sweet aroma exuding from the coffee before me. Vapor from the coffee hovered in my face as I brought the cup closer to my lips, blowing air over it in an attempt to cool it. While darting around in admiration of my new work environment, I took a sip of the coffee. As soon as the earthy taste of it glided its way down my throat, I got energized to start my day. Settling in the swiveling chair in my office, a wide grin formed on my lips as I glanced around my new workplace in admiration. The large office I was seated in was assigned to me this morning after attending a brief orientation with Mr. Montenegro, the executive director. My office was huge and even though the decor didn’t really suit my taste, I felt ecstatic about it. The exciting and most important part of this all was that I wasn’t sharing it with anyone. My hands shot up to my face as I covered my lips in disbelief. In as much as this was real,

LISTOWEL’S POV. Her question took me by surprise, causing me to flinch a bit. Honestly, it wasn't my intention to spy on her all the time. When she returned to Aphrodite City months ago, I was afraid that she might vanish again overnight. That's why I have my men on guard, checking out if there’s any unusual movement going on with her. But when she became the target of the media’s celebrity drama, I had to tighten the security around her. Lisa might not know but my men have protected her from several media intrusions. She's had so many reporters lingering around to question her unnecessarily but she never bumped into any. I wouldn't really say it is all thanks to me because I was the root of it in the first place. If I had not carelessly interacted with her in public as I did some months back, she would have lived her life peacefully like any normal person. That's why I almost went crazy when I couldn't find her whereabouts nor get a text to the plenty of messages I was spam

MELISSA’S POV My gaze shot up, meeting his. What does he mean by I should be thanking him? For what exactly? Rolling my eyes at him, “What good in particular have you done to me for you to deserve my appreciation?” I asked, his statement irritating my nerves with each passing second as it rang in my ears. He didn't utter anything in response, he only stood still, his hands tugged in his pockets while staring at me with an intrigued expression. I forced my way past him and just as I was about to open my car door, his voice broke through “Let’s see if you'll still say this after you see this…” Snapping his fingers, the boot of his car flung open almost hitting Kevin, who was standing a few meters close to it. Kevin inched closer to the boot, took out something, and closed it before turning to head toward us. I squinted my eyes as my gaze fell on what he was dragging behind him. I was about to look away when it suddenly dawned on me! My eyes widened while my mouth fl

MELISSA’S POV “Can I have the bill, please?” I asked, gesturing towards a waiter who was passing by. Nodding in response, “Would you like any other thing else ?” He asked, leaning in closer to my shoulders. “No I’m fine,” I replied, wiping the oil on my lips with the tissue paper before me. “Alright, please give me a few minutes. I will get it for you.” He replied before turning to leave. Digging my hands into my bag, I grabbed my purse while checking in my head which card to use. My eyes felt hazy and a small yawn escaped my lips. I couldn’t wait to get home and nap for a while. In no time, the waiter brought the bill and it was nothing like I had anticipated. The price was quite pricy for just a plate of jollof rice. Maybe because this isn’t a local restaurant,” I thought in my head as I swiped the card on the atm. Beep beep..! My heart almost burst out of my chest as my card declined. “Oh God, what kind of embarrassment is this?” I muttered warmly as I pull

MELISSA’S POV Letting out a deep breath, I let go of my grip on the seat as the pilot announced a successful landing and welcomed us to Aphrodite. I love taking flights and traveling around the world. But throughout all the countless flights I’ve boarded, one thing I couldn’t get used to was the shaking of the plane during landing. My hands were clutched tightly on my seat because of the anxious feeling I get whenever we are landing. Standing up and heading to the door, the harsh breeze of Aphrodite City hit my face as if to remind me of the kind of life I’ve been enduring here. While descending, I reached out for my shades, put them on, and headed to the check-in point. Coming back to Aphrodite City was like a bitter pill that I couldn’t escape. It was bound for me to swallow. I guess no matter how many times I flee this city, I will still find my way to it. Or should I say the city itself will still find its way to me? Kevin gestured for me to hold on but my patience was already wearing thin. “Tell me,” I demanded, my voice low yet commanding. Kevin looked unfazed by my tone. His calm expression as he continued to listen to whatever he was being told over the phone didn’t match the urgency with which he had previously exclaimed. “Yes… yes, I understand, Hold on,” he said as he lowered the speaker to his lips and spoke into the phone. Turning towards me, “Sir, one of the men at the airport believes to have spotted Miss Muggins,” he relayed, cutting me an enthusiastic smile. LISTOWEL’S POV Seated in my living room was Kevin on my right and Joey, the best hacker in the country on my left. Joey is said to be very good at what he does and only operates underground so it took lots of resources for Kevin to get him to me. He is a blonde-haired teenager with piercing sharp eyes. Based on his height, I would guess he is an inch above six feet. Although he appears imposing, his slender arms and legs create a contrasting impression. He’s wearing an oversized hoodie and joggers and has on a black face mask which covers a significant part of his entire face, making it hard to describe his other features. Ever since he sat down and got to work, he hasn't lifted even a brow nor has he said anything. His gaze has been focused on the laptop before him while his fingers rhythmically click on the keyboard. I had requested to be brought here so that he could track Melissa for me. Although the police are still working on the case, they are too slow to like.
