“Spending time with Mommy is not a waste, Sir. Mommy is a wonderful woman. You can talk to her about anything. She knows everything! If you two are talking, I promise not to disturb you. I can play in the yard by myself. Besides,” Summer took a deep breath.

“Didn’t you two use to be best friends? I heard that you used to play and go on vacation together. I think Mommy would be very happy if you guys could relive the good times. Even now, Mommy still talks about it often. She really enjoyed your friendship. With Aunt Emily and Uncle Russell too!”

Louis fell silent for a moment. The times Summer had mentioned flashed through his mind. But in the blink of an eye, he buried them again.

“Sorry, I don’t have time for that. Besides, it’s all been a long time. Even if I did it again, nothing would change. I still can’t marry your mother. The one I love now is Grace Evans. She’s the one I’m going to marry.”

Summer pouted. Her eyes were suddenly thick and shadowy. Before she could express her annoyance, Louis had already grabbed the backpack on the table. Summer immediately jumped down, and protected the bag under her tiny body.

“Sir? Why are you going through my bag? That’s not nice! Besides, you’re not an airport official.”

“I can’t let you stay here. You have to go home immediately. Don’t you feel sorry for your mother? She’s worried about you. Now, return her passport.”

Summer’s lips pursed again. “You don’t have to worry about me, Sir. Even though I’m still little, I’m independent. I can take care of myself. Besides, I’m here with you. What are you afraid of?”

“Your mother is afraid that you will trouble me, and in fact, that has already happened. Therefore, you can not stay here for long.”

Louis pulled out the fully loaded backpack. Summer tried to stop him, but he was too fast.

“Where did you hide your mother's passport?” he asked with more emphasis.

Summer folded her arms across her chest. Her puffed cheeks made her face look rounder.

“Do you think I hid it in my backpack? Then keep looking. Even if an elephant can talk, you won’t be able to find it.”

Louis stopped rummaging through the small backpack. “You didn’t bring it?”

“What for? Mommy won’t be able to come here if I bring her passport.”

Louis sighed tiredly. He returned the small backpack to the table. There was no passport as far as he could see. Summer only brought clothes, a lunch box, a water bottle, and basic equipment for an adventure.

“Why are you going this far, Little Human? Do you realize that your act is harming others? You are making my life difficult,” Louis said, sounding desperate.

“How many times do I have to tell you, Sir? I want you to marry my Mommy,” Summer blurted out as she packed her bag.

“Why? Why me? Why don’t you find another guy? I’m sure your mother has a lot of friends. You said she’s a nice person. There must be someone out there who loves her and wouldn’t mind marrying her. Why are you forcing me? I already have a girlfriend, you know? Grace Evans and I are getting married soon!”

All of a sudden, Summer fell silent, her face dimmed. After closing her bag, she turned around. That's when Louis could see her eyes starting to fill with tears.

“I heard that people get married because they love each other. Mommy loves you, Mr. Louis Harper. Can’t you love her too? I would be so happy if you two got married.”

Louis' chest unexpectedly felt tight. Summer's small voice had shaken his heart. However, remembering Grace, who was waiting for his promise, he cleared his throat.

“Summer,” Louis bent his knees, holding her shoulders, “listen to me carefully. Marriage requires love from both sides. It can’t just be one-sided. That’s why I can’t marry your mother. I don’t love her. It would just be a one-sided love.”

“Why don't you love Mommy? She is a kind, beautiful, great mother. Why don't you just love her?”

Louis took a deep breath. Summer's sad gaze almost numbed his senses. He nearly told her the truth.

“Do you love Grace Evans?” Summer interrupted as Louis was thinking of an explanation.

"Of course," he answered in a thin voice.

Summer pouted. “Why? What makes you love Grace Evans? What makes her different from Mommy?”

Louis' gaze drifted away. The corners of his lips rose as his brain reviewed his lover.

“You know what? I am the number one bachelor in L City. To maintain my reputation, I have to find a comparable wife. Grace is the best choice.”

Summer furrowed her eyebrows. "What's a comparable wife?"

“A wife whose abilities are equal to mine. She has to be beautiful, smart, attractive. Grace has those criteria. Although sometimes, she speaks a bit coldly and curtly, her heart is kind.”

“Mommy is also beautiful, smart, and attractive. She is kind, and never speaks curtly.”

Louis’ lips turned stiff. “Yes, but I’m looking for someone who has the same background as me—a great businessman. Grace is the leader of a big company.”

“Mommy is also a leader. She often leads travel groups to various places. I think Mommy is also a great leader,” Summer nodded firmly.

Feeling amused, Louis ruffled her hair. “Yes, your mother is indeed a great leader.”

“Then why don’t you just marry Mommy?” Summer snapped.

Louis took a deep breath. He was starting to get confused about how to make the toddler understand.

Not getting an answer, Summer spoke again, “Sir, have you ever heard of it? People say that we laugh more when we are with the one we love. Can Grace make you laugh as much as Mommy does?”

Louis' mouth suddenly opened without a word. His vision was clouded, covered by the past. Sky's laughter, that used to shake his heart, now rang in his memory. Usually, he would laugh every time he heard it or at least, smile in admiration.

“I don’t think so,” Summer shook her head slowly. “In my opinion, Grace is a cold and stiff person. She’s the exact opposite of Mommy. People always say that Mommy is fun and cheerful. She likes to entertain others. In all the years you’ve been friends with Mommy, haven’t you noticed that?”Louis subconsciously scratched his nose. He felt uncomfortable with the question. “Did you just belittle my girlfriend?”“I did not belittle her. I just want to say that Mommy is great too. She’s also worthy of you marrying, and I think you’re more compatible with Mommy.”With a quick grunt, Louis straightened up. He was much bigger than Summer. There was no way he could be less powerful than her.“You are so stubborn. There is no point in us talking. I'd better get some rest.”Summer stared at Louis as he walked away. “Sir, where are you going?”"Rest!"“What about me? I am a guest here. It would be rude of you to ignore me.”Summer put her hands on her hips and tilted her head. She didn't realize

“Wait a minute,” Louis flinched. “What am I doing? Why am I watching over that little human? Even though she is the daughter of Sky, she has nothing to do with me. Is this because of humanity?”Not wanting to think of any other reasons, Louis forced himself to believe it.“Yes, I am watching her out of humanity. I am a good guy. I could not possibly abandon a little child even if she was very annoying.”Meanwhile, Summer had returned to the living room. She tidied up her bag, then combed her curly hair with difficulty. Louis's little heart was moved to help. But once again, he ignored the intention.Shortly after lying in the sleeping bag, Summer fell asleep. She occasionally scratched her neck. Seeing that, Louis worried again.“Isn’t it uncomfortable? She shouldn’t be using a sleeping bag in a room like that.”As he kept staring at Summer, Louis was lost in thought. Slowly, he began to realize.Although he hated what Summer had done, he couldn't blame her. Maybe the little girl was a

Louis’ breath hitched, his eyebrows knitted. A strange feeling rose in his chest. But after clenching his fist, he got his mind back on track.“You don’t have to worry, Ace. Sky and her daughter had nothing to do with it. You trust me, right? There’s no way I could sleep with just any girl. The scandal was a setup. Someone was trying to ruin my reputation. It was all a trick.”Grace didn’t answer. Louis could imagine her pretty eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. He added, “Summer won’t be here long. Sky will pick her up soon.”“So her name is Summer? You guys have been close, huh? Do you consider her your own child? Have you forgotten what she did to us?”Louis sighed heavily. “Ace, I know you must be upset that Summer ruined the proposal. So am I. But we can’t blame her. She’s just a child who misses her father.”“You’re right. It’s not her to blame, but her mother. She didn’t do a good job of looking after her child.”Louis fell silent for a moment. He had to be careful in choosing the

“Anyway, how was your sleep, Uncle? Did you sleep well too? I think so. Otherwise, there's no way you would have snored so loudly. Actually, I woke up because of it. I thought there was a frog near my ear, so I opened my eyes. Apparently, it was you! But I didn't mind you waking me up, because last night was a good night. I felt like I was sleeping with my own father! I will never forget that experience," Summer nodded with a beaming face. Meanwhile, Louis took a deep breath. He never knew a toddler could speak so fluently and without a pause. "Please don't misunderstand. I moved you here not because we're close, but because I'm a good person. I can't abandon a child. If the paparazzi recorded me, my good name would be ruined." "What's a parapazi?" Summer asked through her pursed lips. “Paparazzi,” Louis corrected. “People who take photos secretly to share through the media. They usually aim their cameras at famous people. The people they photograph can suffer.” "Oh, that's a

Instead of responding, Grace turned to leave. Seeing that, Louis spontaneously jumped out of bed. "Ace, wait." He held her arm. "Please don't misunderstand. Just hear me out." "What else do I need to hear? Isn't it all clear?" Grace pushed Louis' hand off her arm. "You said you would handle that brat. But look at the reality! You two are getting closer. You even slept with her last night!" Her ragged breathing made the atmosphere even more tense. Louis shook his head slightly. His eyes narrowed in disbelief. "Are you jealous of a little girl? Come on, Ace. She's not even five." "Don't play dumb, Louis. Do you think I don't know? You're starting to think of her as your daughter. So what are you going to do after this? Seeing the little girl struggling, the oldest servant tried to calm her down. "Please don't chase after Mr. Harper, Little Lady. He has some business outside. How about having breakfast? My friends and I have prepared lots of delicious food for you." However, Summer kept struggling. Her head moved around, looking for traces of Louis. "Uncle Louis, please don't leave me. I want to go with you. Uncle Louis!" Louis heard the heartbreaking voice, but he ignored it. As the elevator doors began to close, Summer finally burst into tears. She no longer fought back. "But I've fallen a lot. That's why I carry plasters and antiseptic in my bag," she said between sobs. Louis smiled wryly. He took a look at Summer's knees. There were dust spots on her jumpsuit. "Come here. Sit." Louis, still half-kneeling, lifted the toddler onto his lap. With one hand, he rolled up her pants to her knees. As expected, he found scratches on her skin. "Are there any other injuries besides this?" he asked softly. Summer lifted one of her legs with furrowed brows. Her back was slightly hunched. "I think I have a hole in the sole of my foot. I accidentally stepped on something sharp. It hurts right down to the bone." Hearing that, Louis rushed to check. Finding the sole of her tiny foot full of red spots, he let out a sigh of relief. "Then what else? Pick a few," Louis said stiffly. He felt silly for trying to match Summer's taste to his. "Oh, this is difficult. I like food. I can eat everything heartily, except for those curly greens. I don't really like broccoli, but Mommy said it has a lot of benefits. So, I'm forced to eat it." Louis froze again. It was exactly the same as what he had experienced when he was a child. "But Uncle Louis," Summer's voice made him blink, "is all this food safe? I mean, no almonds or shrimps, right?" Louis' eyes were as wide as they could be. He knew that Sky was allergic to almonds. It was very possible that it was inherited to Summer. But shrimps? Why was Summer afraid of shrimps? "What's with the almonds and shrimps?" Louis acted stupid. "They're bad, Uncle. They can make me itchy and short of breath." Louis tried not to change his expression. However, his mind was too noisy with questions. His forehead frowned even more. Who was Summer actually? Why did she have s

Her hand was stroking the little girl's hair. With attention fixed on her wound, Summer murmured, "It's okay, Ma'am. I am the one who wasn't careful enough. I ran because I thought there was a fire. The alarm sounded really loud. I had to find Mommy and get out to a safe zone."Kara felt even more guilty hearing the innocent confession. "That wasn't a fire alarm, Sweetheart. It was a warning about a press raid, and everyone needs to be alert."Summer's eyes immediately rounded. "That wasn't a fire?"She finally looked at the beautiful woman. In fact, in their last conversation, Sky was still excited about attending."Louis' brows furrowed more deeply. His face looked older now. "What assumption?""She thought Sky ran away because of you."Orion's answer successfully strangled Louis' neck. He was starting to have trouble breathing. Instead of examining it, Louis narrowed his eyes. "The other Mr. Harper?""Mr. Orion."Louis flinched slightly. How important was the information Orion wanted to convey that he dared to interrupt the press conference in such a way? After signalling his secretary to leave, Louis unfolded the paper. A sentence was written on it."She was in the same hotel as you were that night!"In an instant, Louis' breath caught. All his nerves tensed. His eyes trembled violently, trying to find the lost memory.Unfortunately, he found no clues. What happened that night seemed to be permanently erased from his brain."Sky was in M City that night? Her lungs constricted, trapped by sadness that was hard to describe."Honey," Sky stroked Summer's chubby cheeks that looked a little shrunken, "why do you think so?
